Nice one! Q - How does he find samples he wants to work with - can he recommend any good places to crate dig online? and what is he looking for in a sample?

Nick Rathsack

The song “Woman” has always felt particularly powerful to me. What is the inspiration behind this track and is there a deeper meaning behind the lyrics? Additionally, if the vocals are sampled, where did they come from?

Great! Can he talk us through the vocal sampling on ‘Different’?

Hi Barry! I love the way you blend live instruments with synths and electronic elements. What’s your usual starting point, do you start with a synth idea and build around it with live parts, or the other way around? And once everything’s in, how do you make sure both the live and electronic elements feel balanced and “glued together” in the mix?

Ahh Barry!.. Got to see your show in Boston! A standout and must say, one of the best sounding show's I've ever been to! Are you involved in the mixing of your shows? Also what are some tips for working out live versions (with live instruments) of electronic focused music? Cheers!

Hi!! So in love with the top line melodies you write for piano—for me it’s what makes some of your songs so unmistakably YOU. I first heard it in - and it’s definitely present in “cars pass by like childhood sweethearts.” What is your process for writing these? Do you just sort of jam until you have something you like? Or do you have a more structured writing process?

You blend jazz bits and electronic so effortlessly—do you ever picture specific scenes or moods when you’re building a track, like scoring an imaginary film? Your music feels so visual to me. I saw you play in Perth at Laneway and dancing with my friend Em, and singing every word to Deadbeat Gospel, is now a core friendship memory, thank you!!

Can you talk about a time where you made a big change to a song after spending lots of time on it? How do you break out of the structure/ idea that you have engrained in your mind (and project file), and how do you know it's the right choice to do so?

Absolutely love Barry. I got to DJ in an amazing setting in Corfu recently and the reaction to ‘Sunsleeper’ was incredible, totally joyous. Can he talk us through how he approaches track arrangement, develops an initial exciting idea into a full tune and avoids getting stuck in ‘loop land’

Oscar Talvitie

Amazing! Love Barry. When will it be released?
