Any tips for dealing with mono compatibility on things like pads?

Philo

super stoked for overmono! i've seen them work a lot with tools like the pulsar 23. i was wondering, when working with intricate instruments like these, do they do dedicated sounddesign sessions or do they figure out their go to patches and use these all the time? and if they do record sounddesign sessions, do they have any insights on how to make these musical/how to chop them up in a musical way?

Philo

oh and...i'd love to hear some insights on their live setup. what's the concept behind it/how do they decide on what's coming from the computer and what's outsourced to external gear.

Alex

They have a unique sound that helped them break out and have success, but it also potentially puts them in a box stylistically... how were they thinking about this when writing the new record?

Alex

Have their thoughts about songwriting changed now that they're playing to much bigger crowds in bigger venues?

Ross Drummond

Always been really impressed with your use of hardware live, did the huge amount of touring you did for your debut effect the writing producing when it comes to gear usage and workflow? (Any tips on getting the most out of an Octatrack also welcome..!)

Alex Philp

Hi! Huge fan. So excited overmono are on the show! One thing that always stands out to me is how distinctive your drums and synths are—they’re instantly recognisable as Overmono. Could you talk us through your approach to creating those sounds? Specifically, how do you choose or design percussion that feels unique without becoming overcomplicated, and how do you create synths that are melodic but still have so much character and movement?

Angel Medrano

Overmono yaaaaaay. I wish I had a good question! Cant express how much I've enjoyed thier music in last year or so and that boiler room performance just blew my f'ing socks off! Much love respect and hope for continued success!

Jordan Plocker

Yes!!! How do you dig for samples? The samples used from these guys is what sets them apart in my opinion. Do they have a methodology or is it just a lot of trial and error?

Khalea Berry

What is something you both wish you'd known when you first began performing live sets, and what did your prep for those sets look like when you had minimal “pro” resources? Love you guys, getting to see you live for the first time (San Francisco / 2023) straight up changed my life :-)

Nathan

If you could only keep 3 pieces of hardware from your current studio setup, what would they be and why?

Kriz Main

How much of your production involves hardware gear? Do you use any old samplers like the Akai's? Do your live setups involve Ableton or is it all hardware?

STEPHEN

When tackling a remix and/or interpolation, how do you reach the point where you decide whether to do a lot of re-imaging or very little just amplify the beauty of the original? I thought you struck a great balance of this with the Turn the Page remix. p.s. Good Lies was such a good album and title track!!

Nathan Gardner

Love these two and have followed for the past few years. Ive noticed they always have an Elektron device in either their live set up or studio set up. Does this form the backbone of their drum design using elektrons amazing sequencer or do they use them for sampling musical elements too?

Thomas Milton

Having seen them play live at Ally Pally, I was struck by how much of the set was actually programmed and played live. What is the approach to taking a studio record and translating it into a live setting? Also, does the fact that you will eventually play your songs live affect your decision-making process in the studio?

Kevin Velazquez

How can you promote your music and how can you get access to venues to play and artists to collaborate with? How do you maintain your discipline?

Matt Day

I would love to hear more about how they write and sequence their drum patterns! -Do they use drum machines to create loops and chop later or build a lot of their own ‘kits’ using drum samples? Also would love to hear about their writing process more broadly: -how do they usually like to start a track? (I.e. chords? vocal sample? Drums?) -after they have the first element, what do they usually like to add next to give the idea more direction?

Valentin Liechti

Hello Overmono, thanks so much for your music — it’s been a constant source of inspiration. I was curious if you could talk a bit about your process from idea to release. As producers, you’re so hands-on with everything, writing, sound design, mixing... so I’m wondering how much of that you keep in-house and where, if at all, you like to bring other people in. And how do you know when a track is actually ready? Not just finished in the studio, but ready to be played out on a club system?

Baardman

I would love to know how they think about arrangement

Baardman

Huge fan! I heard you mention in a past interview that regarding harmony you try to sound not too happy or sad. I think you guys do this perfectly in your tracks pulling on emotions that do sit in that middle ground. It would be great to dive deeper into your thought process when thinking of what keys/notes/chords you choose when writing a track :D

Emilio Tercero

How do you achieve that basslines 🤝
