Ross Drummond

After having such a successful record with such an identifiable sound were there sounds, tricks or pitfalls you were wary of using in the making of this? Whether lyrically or in production?

Joe

(For all) When a production idea sounds strange at first, how do you know whether to keep exploring it or move on?

Alex

In your single SS26 you say "nothing's gonna save us not music, fashion, or film" (the name of the album). If these creative pillars can't offer you escape anymore, what do you feel like is your personal purpose for making art in this current era?

Nick Webb

Charli - what makes a good vocal melody?

Karate in the Garage

Sweeet. I was wondering if you were gonna have them back on so soon.

Tom Schmitz

What is your setup for music writing when you’re in creative mode and not producing?

Daniel Stojkovski

For Charli: In your note at the album listening events, you said that you were expecting to take time away from creating until inspiration struck. What moment made you realise you had the drive to craft a full record and how did you start that process? With a sound or with lyrics or just with an idea?

Jan

(for all) As a lot of your music is very production heavy and has a unique sound to it, I’m wondering how your songwriting process is like. Is Production and Sound/Vocal Sound an important focus from the start or do you write the song first without production in mind?

Anna

For all: The new tracks lean heavily into a raw, guitar-driven sound. When building the identity of this record, were there specific rock eras or subcultures that served as a blueprint? And how did navigating this new 'rock' framework change how you approached the actual songwriting and architecture of the songs compared to your previous experimental and electronic work?

Andrew Martin

(For Charli) The aesthetic of this album seems to draw from the French New Wave. Like Godard or Truffaut you’re fiercely authentic, iconoclastic and refuse to make yourself commodified for common taste and that authenticity makes people love you. It seems you work fast and instinctually like those directors but welcome complex narratives and flawed characters like they did. Did French cinema inspire you on this album?

MJF

Transmitting a couple of questions from one of my collaborators, who is a longtime Charli fan: 1. (For Charli and AG) What did it feel like to write a song about friendship and love together on “Magic Metal Montana”? It was really sweet and touching to hear this song about your friendship, and we’d love to hear about that writing moment. 2. How did you create the instrumental texture/effect behind Charli’s vocals in the pre-choruses of “SS26”? We love this part of the track, but we can’t quite decode all the magic happening there. Please help us!

Tim Adam-Smith

Great questions! We actually recorded this yesterday and those 2 tracks weren’t discussed but sure there will be lots otherwise to interest you!
