Hello everyone!

Sorry to come in here to discuss this but, English is not my main language and I was looking for a second thought. I just received an e-mail from MMF with some crazy random fee that they are charging the Creators.

Here is the E-mail:

On Tuesday June 18th, we introduced a Library Management Fee. This is applied for makers at checkout capped at 0.89 USD per order (0.49 USD for orders under 7.5 USD). This is an average of 3.5% per basket.

We would like to apologize for our oversight to not communicate this with you before releasing this fee. You are our valued partners and should be informed of any changes that affect your communities.

We implemented this fee to cover the cost of removing Google Ads across the site for all logged-in members, a popular request that we are proud to have delivered for the community to enhance your overall experience.

Additionally, the fee covers infrastructure costs, performance improvements and introducing new features, such as more improvements to the Library.

We have heard your feedback and value you sharing your concerns. Thank you for your understanding and support.

UPDATE: After talking to some Patrons and hearing their stories I have the wrong understanding of this e-mail. the term "Marker" is used for the customer while for me the correct term is probably "Designer". This means that all the revenue from google ads is now being charged on those who buy on MMF, and your order is now more expensive. Stay tuned for the Fees that they are charging you when making a purchase there.

So from what I understood, they removed the Google Ads (a good thing) but, they wanted to compensate for the revenue loss somewhere. They implemented the Management Fee in which they would charge the makers (Me and others that make models) for every order that we sell. So if the order is below 7.5 USD they would charge 0.49 USD.

This means that my average miniature is 3 USD, if a person buys only one I would Pay MMF 8% commission + (5% + 0.1 USD) microtransaction fees + 1% international fee + 0.49 USD Library Fees, meaning that I would receive less than 2 USD.

Besides all this, I still have to pay them 25 USD per month to have a store there, regardless of sales volume.

Have I understood correctly or am I missing something? It's already hard for small creators like me and this will make it harder. If the creators make big sales this is irrelevant but I hardly sell a thing and whether I do believe it or not the most sold item is the Owl which is 2.5 USD, and the majority of the orders are for 1 miniature. This fee the way I have read will heavily impact my income.

I don't know if this fee will also affect Tribes, but if it does...

As a bonus, they don't even advertise small content creators only the big ones. To be honest, they don't even need to be advertised...

Does anyone have a suggestion on what should I do?

I did not want to but I could only see the option of raising the prices to counter MMF Greed.

Best regards,

Ivo

I didn’t see any announcement about it, but I am getting billed this fee on every order as a customer. I wonder if the customer pays it on your behalf? If you need me to order something to test it out for you, I’m happy to help!

I personally understand, this affects you greatly, without you, there is no us, so if you need to raise your price to make up for the fee, it's completely understandable.

This was my understanding after reading the note. Just attempted to purchase a file. It shows the charge as an additional fee to me as a customer titled: "Library Management Fee"

Nah, don't worry, someone might buy something anytime and I will check this. I also opened a Help on MMF to get more explanation, I will check this out soon.

Imagine Minis

Yeah, this is something that I don't wish to do. But actually, we are all in this together, If there were no you, there would be no me, if there were no me (sculptors in general) there would be no MMF. If they charge sculptors or costumers is the same as biting the hand that is feeding them.

Mini Manatee

Agreed! Do what you need to do to keep going :)

Pack your miniatures to dont have an article lower than 7.5 USD

Ah, so it seems that they are charging the customers then, not the makers. Makes sense because how would they charge the creators if the person bought from 2 different creators? Regardless of who is being charged I thing this is kind of unnecessary.

Imagine Minis

Great idea. Going to wait for the MMF response, some people have told me that the customers are being charged. In the worst case, I will do exactly this (but also keep the separate pack expensive with the fees)

Just picked up a bunch of your stuff and it's definitely charged to the customer. Thankfully it's based on the total in the cart rather than per item, but if you're only picking up the occasional model every now and then, it'll add up real fast. Total cash grab IMO.

You did the best thing you could. You are transparent with this issue with your community from the start. So if the prices rise, peoole hopefully know and understand why... I think that bundling of simmilar items is nice solution if it helps, I recently saw this among other creators... and the price was astonishingly 7.50 :D . Either way the issue of your advertising is really troublesome and i have noticed this before... even when i search for exactly right tags and names. For example when i found you as a creator I was searching for orcs with aesthetic simmilar to WOW. I was scrolling through loads of content not even remotely simmilar to what i was looking for, and after a few minutes of scrolling I found these on the bottom and tought to myself? Wha why are these on the bottom? Like... I get advertising and front page stuff, but fudging precise searches in favor of big creators is too much for me...

Imagine Minis

Thank you. Yeah, I also think it's a cash grab created to compensate for the loss in revenue from the Google adds, they are using the big name to win money over their customers because most people don't even bother to look on other platforms. Now that I think of it the Term "Maker" could be used for the customer while "Designer" is the term used for the Sculptor.

Imagine Minis

I don't know how the search engine works but probably it searches based on tags and description text. What they do is organize first from the most sold/most downloaded, meaning that those that don't sell well or are not downloaded are displayed at the bottom, in terms of marketing it does make sense because you as the store are interested in making sales. But, how does the person on the bottom get sales or downloads if they don't appear first or are not promoted?

To be honest , this move by MMF really cranks me. 0.49 USD on any purchase under $7.50 is absurd. They really only instituted this move, probably, because there advertising income was dismal! And this way they get infinite flow or income based off every purchase of product or frontier/campaign. Crazy part is , it's not like they have to store X file multiple times with each purchase .... Either way, it really makes me use Cults3d more often for searching specific bits. I'm really wondering how this is going to affect Patreon subs. And since the move , while logged into MMF , I still get adds and pop-ups...

Imagine Minis

They were receiving revenue from Ads and also those who did not want ads had the option to join their subscription. My view as a sculptor is that with this amount of money, they will scare customers and affect sales in general. I'm still studying about thangs but I think it might be a better option than MMF.
