Weekly Developer Log #11: Ship Builder Kickstarter (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone!
With the end of this month's production, I focused a bit more of my time on building the skyship.
If you missed last week's post, here's the link: Weekly Developer Log #10: Ship Builder Kickstarter | Patreon
What have I done since the last post?
Initially, I was planning to take it part by part to Zbrush and add details to it but in the end, I could not do this. I thought that doing things this way would end up being too much trouble and would eventually have some bad connections.
I decided to work on the tip of the ship along with the middle section. I also made the tip longer, giving it a less-rounded look
I had to redo part of the previously sculpted wall in order to fit the new connections. The walls will have holes to fit pegs that will be used to connect to adjacent walls, I decided to do it this way to make sure that the structures will align and also so that in the future if you have a floor, you can remove the topmost part (that is, if you don't glue them).
I also started to make the cannon. It will be divided into 2 parts and glued on top of a wall. The parts are the round ball and the cannon tip. With this division, you will be able to point the cannon at any angle you wish.
For the repeatable wall in the mid-section, there will be 2 versions, one with and the other without the structural beam, to create a double cannon section.
One thing I realized
After working on this project, today it crossed my mind, how easy it would be if I made a single solid structure without thinking about printing and connections... there is no going back, I've made up my mind and this project will come out.
I will also need to stock some cheap resin, if it falls on the ground it will shatter regardless of the resin quality, therefore there is no need for me to use expensive stuff.
What I will do Next?
For next week I will add details on the top part of the tip and will also import the rest of the tip components.
Time invested in this project: 40 hours
That's it for this week's update. If you have any suggestions please let me know in the comments below.
Best regards,
Ivo
