Hello everyone!
Update January 11th
Just finished adding details. Now I'm going to work on splitting this model, so I can support and test print it.
I'm well aware of FDM printing and I should need the most flat surfaces, considering the size of the build I don't see too many options here.
I will stop updating this post because this split won't change much of the design.
Update January 10th
Yesterday I worked on the ramps and some additional details (that I don't remember anymore), most of my time was to figure it out how the ramps would connect/split and print well.
After so much tinkering I think I might have made a good decision.
Today I will still work on the ramps and structural supports, before starting to work on the hut.
Update January 9th
Yesterday I made some wood textures and added some metal and bolts. While doing the hut I decided to also make some spikes to add as optional in the bottom part.
Today I will be working on the ramps, and structural reinforcements and also making a few changes to the spikes.
Update January 8th
I could not work yesterday as much as I wanted but, I managed to do some thinking and changes in some positions. Now I have also added colors to make it easier to see the different materials used in the building.
I moved the Top stairs to the outside of the platform to make it easier to manage miniatures in it, I still need to add more structural reinforcement for it. I also changed the Main Support from a rectangle to a round section structure, as pointed out the reference structure was made using a low poly model, meaning it had fewer vertices than what was intended, another point is that a Square section of wood is possible but requires more work and Orc are not much of a reference in Architecture design.
Today I will start adding textures to the floor tiles, making some of my decisions permanent.
Update January 7th
I have transcribed my 2D drawing into a 3d block, I made some changes to it, like the middle platform, and I lowered it a bit more so it could fit miniatures more easily.
Don't mind the orc overlapping the floor, it's not a ghost lol. I will remove part of that floor to make room for the ramp.
The top part looks a bit boring, I might add some curves to make it more interesting.
So far I know that I need more reference to improve this model and give it a better result.
Should I change the structural pillars to a round section or should I stick with the rectangle/square section? Should I make larger base for these pillars?
Splitting sections so far: Bottom, Mid platform, Mid Pillars, Top platform, Hut Top, Hut Ceiling. I will probably need to split the platforms into more sections to fit smaller prints.
---End of Update---
Just started to get data to use in the process of creating an Orc Watch Tower. These are the images I gathered so far but they are enough to guide my ideas (I will probably go sightseeing for more reference).
The 2 above on the top corner were the initial plan, unfortunately for a 32mm scale they would be beyond huge. Why do I think it would be this way? On top of the second image, there is a Female Tauren, but let's consider that it's an Orc (which is smaller than Taurens). Now imagine that as a 32mm scale miniature, this would mean that you could put around 7 or 8 miniature side by side, this means 8x8 grid (something close to 20 cm, equivalent to 12 meters if you use a D&D scale), this seems to be a bit excessive in my mind. The height is indeed something that would also stand out on the table.
The top Image (Printed) - I don't know who sculpted it, so forgive me. I picked this image because it shows how the sculptor splitter his design, I'm thinking of something like that. But will see, I'm looking to make it easy to print in small printers and also be easy to assemble (and play).
The remaining Images are from the RTS, My3dprintforge has made those, I don't wish to go in this direction but, I think that some details might help me improve the end design for this tower.
Conclusion
I don't know lol... I think I will go do some tests but somethings I know that I want:
It's a tower, so it has to be tall (able to see over the walls and some buildings.
Playable interior (fewer miniatures than the MMO and mode than the RTS)
Playable ramp, I think that allowing the player to put some miniatures on the ramps would make things a bit more fun.
Using the top part as an Orc hut would be nice
Reinforcement: If you wish to make the Tower basic that's great but I think that some bits to glue on the tower and make some reinforcement would be a nice addition
It has to print on an Elegoo Mars 2 Pro, so if you have a small printer you will be able to print it. Taking care of the split would probably help FDM printers.
There won't be a base for this miniature.
I will keep updating this post as I progress in this process. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know.
Best regards,
Ivo
