Content

When 74-year-old Russell Hill and 73-year-old Carol Clay vanished while camping in Victoria’s rugged High Country, their disappearance brought many hidden secrets to light. People theorised that the pair had run away together, were the victims of a murder-suicide, or had accidentally been killed by hunters. But there was only one person out there who knew the truth.

A fresh off the press episode

Love a local case. And a super interesting one.. can't wait to listen!

I did a week-long solo hike last winter starting at Howitt Plains - there’s heaps of graffiti in the drop toilets at the trailhead, and in the intentions books, purporting to be from the button man. Much of it’s eerie and talks about him watching you and so on. But within the hiking community he’s seen as being harmless and unfortunately maligned. It seems like one of those instances where some slightly standoffish or odd-seeming bloke creeped a few people out (maybe intentionally, maybe not) and it’s been mythologised into a scary mountain story. I really feel for the guy

This sounds like a great episode, can't wait for the English dub!

This was my favourite ep in a while, the unravelling of the story was sooo good

This was an absolutely gripping episode. Really well done, congratulations to the writers, researchers and of course, Casey, this is some of your best work.

all this mayhem and a clear livewire killer and yet i think the people i'm maddest at in this whole episode are the Women's Society for removing Carol's name from their honorees. Way to murder her twice!!!!!! great episode, Casefile! I think the only true part of Lynn's confession was the part where he talked about his motivations for the cover-up, and how much of it centered around losing his status and his reputation among his clubs. It really illustrated to me that saying that to a narcissist, the death of the ego is worse than actual death.

I really want to know what the "annoying" songs were.. Also, so convenient he fell on his own knife. Don't believe this guy. 🙄

Cerys

Just so you know, there's a typo in the episode description ("Russel Clay").

Taylor Lyons

Been waiting for this to be covered! One of the more fascinating cases in recent times. You guys nailed it as usual, even with knowing the outcome

Glardzzz

I really feel for Robyn Hill in all this as well ❤️

No better feeling than seeing it’s an Aussie case in the description 😍As well known as this case is locally, I didn’t really follow it at the time. Great episode! Loved every second.

I hadn't known about Lynn's vehicle being originally white prior to listening to this episode, my first thought when it said he painted it blue after returning from a central aus trip was i wonder if he had painted it blue to cover up something that happened on that trip . Given his record I'd definitely be having a look at that if I was a police member

Green Thumb

Feels like the Australian version of Grumpy Old Men

I hadn’t heard about the case, a friend of mine was completely obsessed and followed it very thoroughly so I heard it from her very good episode, a lot of details and takes me back to when it happened

Ali

Being from 🇬🇧 I didn't know this case. Really enjoyed it. Love the Aussie cases, often very creepy. Great use of digital forensics here too

Diane Natale

Excellent. Thank you for this episode.
