In the early hours of Sunday June 26 2011, James Anderson, who went by his middle name of Craig, found himself in a predicament – he had locked his keys inside his car. It was a setback the happy-go-lucky, 47-year-old African American man wasn’t prepared for.

I’ll review before I’ve listened. Terribly sad, but THANK YOU

Abhi Ram

Good start to the daylight savings long weekend :)

Kerry Weinstein

A sad listen. Barbara is so strong. My hope is Craig’s family finds peace.

K. Smith

So heartbreaking and, unfortunately, relevant. Thank you for telling Craig's story. I'm from this part of the US and recall this crime when it happened. Well done 🙏

Im one minute in and I'm already reminded why casefile is by and far my fav podcast. You select diverse and often unknown cases to shed light on all walks of life. As a black gay man myself, this resonates with me already...😥

Cameron DelaCerna

Oh man...this is gonna be a hard one to listen to i can already feel it.

Annie Brod

Thank you for choosing this story to tell.

Thank you. I've been waiting for a story like this from Casefile, given the recent and ongoing civil uprisings in my country (USA). I appreciate you bringing the reality of our seemingly endless battle with our nation's original sin to your listeners around the world. A note on the Confederate flag, you were correct regarding Mississippi's flag. It was the last one that included an obvious Confederate flag. However, take a look at the remaining southern flags. The Confederate flag still lives within many of them, but it's more subtle. My home state of Florida is a perfect example: The Bars still persist, although the stars were removed, the bars were changed from blue to red, and it was overlaid with another image. And racial tension isn't only in the south. Back when the expansion into the west was taking place, many white people saw it as an opportunity to create new white strongholds, and to this day, we have pockets of white nationalist militias in northwestern states like Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Racism is alive and well here. I sincerely hope to see a real shift in my lifetime. Thank you again for this exceptional, thoughtful, and important story. Land of the Free? Not yet.

Juniper Berry

Their son seeing the murder replayed on tv.....just ripped out my heart. The trauma porn has to stop.

Roxy Orcutt

Well this episode thoroughly bummed me out. Poor man. Awful kids.

Rosie Overell

Great episode - very sad for Craig’s husband and family. Scary that this racism still exists in parts of USA

Raymond Danford

This should be required listening for all Americans, and especially for supporters of Trump.

Raymond Danford

Racism is on the rise and out of the closet in Trump's America. Did they already forget who won the civil war, and who waved the white flag? Do we have to vanquish them again? It's getting old.

MJ hughes

Oh awful but so wonderfully done casey

Mallory Phillips

Thank you for cover this case. It is so pertinent to the reality of life in America for many BIPOC. Racism is alive and thriving and now being condoned by those in the US government 😓Heartbreaking for Craig and his loved ones.

Mandy G

I’ve cried A LOT during this episode. Absolutely devastating.

MM

Thank you for this episode. As always, really well done.

MM

Pathetic.

Jackie Green

Very saddened by this one. Very well put together and presented beautifully, just the content is very real even to this day. RiP Craig

Wow, what a horrible event, but one that is very well put together by the Casefile team. While I live in a small city and you’d hope that racism doesn’t exist it does. I’m saddened every time when hearing or seeing of racist acts, there should be zero tolerance for any of it. Stomping it out is not an easy task and it is going to take a very long time. Our best hope is our young children, teach them early in life that racism is completely unacceptable. We need to ensure that every school provides curriculum to promote racial equality, so that even the children of racist parents, will have the opportunity affect change by interacting with their non-racist peers to keep them on a positive path to changing the racist record. STOP the hate, we all came into this world the same way and we are all equal.

Cate Ness

Thank you for covering Craig's horrific murder and subsequent trial. As usual, ya'll did a great job. The details of this case were heartbreaking on so many levels. As a US citizen, I'm sickened daily by the racism that's blatantly on display in its many vicious and ugly forms. I'm glad in this situation, the legal system took it seriously. Justice doesn't always happen for POC &/or LGBTQI folx.

Gale Hogsten

You made me cry. I became a patron member today. It was the least I could do.

Andrea Johnson

Really good overview of civil rights history and racism in the U.S. as part of this episode. The fact that Casefile gets something right that I know a fair amount about, makes me feel confident that I am also getting a good picture of other nations (the ones I know very little about) when history and culture is described in other episodes. Thank you for all your hard work.
