The Station 61 crew of the Omaha Fire Department were just over an hour into their shift on Saturday, August 17 2013 when they were called out to a house fire two miles south. Within a matter of seconds, the firefighters had pulled on their safety equipment, raced to their truck and left the station.

I can’t believe I haven’t heard this case discussed as up there with some of the best. This was such a great listen.

AR

the line "as she slithered away into the night" always makes me laugh, which is a feat in a case this grim. classic.

Kate Coen

I knew I recognised this name! Dateline also covered this case :)

Tamika Parker

One of the best cases you've done team. Absolutely well done! Thank you for making my Saturday nights the best

Amy Hart

The level of research this podcast does is incredible. I live in Omaha and this was the best coverage of this particular case I've ever come across. It was far more involved and detailed than any local coverage I've seen. This area has experienced shocking number of high profile murders/crime in the past decade. They all seen to involve people and places very familiar to me. It's really quite sad. I even know someone who was (falsely) arrested and detained for the murders committed by Nikko Jenkins. I'm always impressed by the professionalism and kindness of this podcast.

Wow, the music on this episode was incredible. I loved the guitar bit about an hour in. I’m definitely going to listen to this case again because the twist was mind blowing . Great job casefile team your storytelling never ceases to amaze me.

BaNaNaS!!! 🤯And one of the best ever!!!

This is, hands down, the most amazing true crime story I have ever heard or heard of, ever. Absolutely incredible research and storytelling. I’m almost sad because I feel like nothing this good can ever be produced again! Great detective work too, to be able to piece it together at last, thank God on behalf of the victims and their families. Hopefully podcasts like this raise awareness/knowledge/techniques to help solve more crimes for those whose lives are destroyed by them.

It's a case that's been covered on several other true crime podcasts (understandably), but not on Casefile before. It does bear some similarities to the Amy Allwine case and the case of the schoolteacher who was accused of harassing her colleague, which was also a bonus Casefile ep. It's also very similar to the Michelle Hadley case, which Casefile hasn't covered (yet).

The nested story telling is just absolutely incredible. It's like perceived realities are told in segments leading up to the final, authentic reality. So well done

AR

I'm so glad you guys covered this case! Because of the close pov I didn't realize what case I was listening to until pretty far along, and even then I was doubting my own memory of what happened! Such a tragic, nihilistic death. And the idea that her ex spent 8 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit is jawdropping -- not something I've heard other podcasts discuss when they cover this case. Excellent work as always.

Hell hath no fury

“As she slithered into the night” idk why that made me laugh She’s a snake so it’s fitting

sharnita singh

So tragic. First time I have heard the story. Poor woman.

Emily

The twists!!!

AK C

I thought this was the most disturbing way to word that. 😂 I imagined something right out of the X-Files.

I came on here to comment the same thing. Picturing her being caught but not acknowledging it and continuing on with her crawl just caught me so off guard, I had to bust out laughing. And then they describe it as her slithering away, I kept on laughing 😂

Those poor pets though 😪.... and the amount of hours spent each week , texting and emailing.. wow!!

On Friday I listened to another podcast cover this case but in a much shorter way. 24 hours later, Casefile do a 75 min version. Weird coincidence but had to happen eventually. This is a truly crazy and bizarre story and even though I knew where it was going, your version had new details I didn’t know.

I had to go watch the 20/20 episode immediately after listening to this episode. So many twist and turns I had to double dip to wrap my head around this case. Nice work as usual Casefile team

Emma Brown

Oh wowwww that was a crazy listen wtf 🤯 her poor pets though 😢 so evil!

Ethan Whish

Incredible episode. Well done guys

Nico Saaranen

This has to be up there with 104: Mark and John. Almost unbelievable

Ekin

This was one of the best episodes ever. What a story

kayla noftall

I came here to say the same thing! I’ve heard this case covered before, but didn’t realize until I was about halfway through. Brilliant! This telling is remarkable.

Hayden Cooper

What a crazy twist! As it was revealed she went missing from her family and friends I was first under the impression Cari had faked her own death so she could dedicate her life to tormenting Dave and Liz!

Hayden Cooper

Only you would know if you did or not.

Hayden Cooper

One thing that stood out to me was the podcast never addressed why the police weren't doing more to look into or even arrest Cari after the admissions to the fire and smashing the window etc. It then made more sense later - they wouldn't have been able to find her if they tried. Even to impose a restraining order. But it was still a bit confusing as a listener going through everything she was doing with not much response or action from authorities.

Demi V

Such incredible writing. I watched the 20/20 episode and they had led with their coverage with "but there's a twist" but the writing was so well done that I didn't even know it was the same case until the gun in the park. This is the second episode now that Casefile has delivered a twist with such magnificence. The team is really doing incredible work.

Jason Colombo

Holyshit, I forgot this case! What an incredible episode! Mike’s production made everything feel so new. 🥰 I already knew what was gonna happen, but I was so edgy and stressed. Haha! Great writing, great everything! Definitive journalism on this case by the team.

Laura B

I think this is my favourite Casefile episode! Wow!

Haruka

I ended up listening to the audiobook of A Tangled Web after listening to this episode ! Great job !! This case was quite a ride.

Sammy

Just when you think you know where the story is going, it twists again! What a crazy one that was!

ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES. Y’all my podcasts on Apple say I have 6 unplayed episodes out of the 200+
