It was early on Friday September 4 1981 when Jeff Slaten woke to a strange sound. It was the crackle of a police radio. Jeff quickly realised that several officers had gained access to his home and were quietly moving about. “What’s going on?” he asked. Jeff was told to get dressed and go outside. He did so, completely perplexed as to why the police were even there.
