Hello Patreon supporters! It is time to send in your questions for the first edition of Behind The Files and the general Q&A for 2024. The team will be covering the following cases; 270: Meredith Kercher, 271: Bonnie Clarke, 272: The Annecy shootings and 273: The beast of Mlawa. If you have any specific questions related to these cases, or any general questions you'd like to ask the team, put them in the comments below!

Did you enjoy the Netflix episode about Amanda Knox. I thought there was very little focus on poor Meredith or her family.

Alex May

I said I'd ask, and I am, was Blink all you wanted Casey? I saw some friends post videos on FB - they didn't sound too crash hot, or were Rise Against better? Case wise: Thank you for focussing on Meredith rather than the Knox woman, with your research skills amongst the writing team, would you guys ever consider doing a walk through of your research methodology?

Hiedra

I'm sure this question has already been asked, and I'm sorry if it has: When researching cases does the team reach out to family of victims? Does the team change the name of those involved in the case on request or due to censors already applied to the public records?

Bree

Was there any public or private apology given to Bonnie Clarkes mother by the detective that was very outspoken about her involvement in the crime?

Neil A.

Meredith Kercher question - What made you do an almost 2.5 hour episode and not split it into 2 parts? The episode was fantastic and I personally didn’t think it needed to be spit but I can’t remember a longer episode than that in Casefile history. Also going in I had always thought Knox was guilty just going off tabloid headlines so it was really refreshing just to hear the facts. I have changed my mind. Great job team.

Pip Franke

Just a general question! How do yall go about naming your episodes? Ive been trying to find or figure out the pattern, but I’m a bit stumped! Some of them are named after the victim(s), and some after the perpetrator(s). Some of them are named after what the case is commonly referred to (The Zodiac, The Annecy Shootings) and some are not (the Miyazawa Family case I’ve only ever seen referred to as the Setagaya Murders, aside from your episode). Is there a process or formula to naming the episodes? Has it changed or evolved with the show over the years? Much love as always.

Bree

Not a question - Some people may not like it when Casefile cover popular or overdone cases, however as this podcast is my only source of true crime (apart from the occasional Netflix doco and local news) I am not aware of many ‘high profile’ international cases. The Meredith kercher episode was really fascinating and very well done.

Conor dixon

Just a general question, any more Irish cases in the works? I know you guys probably get loads of requests from loads of different countries but we’ve had a good few cases that would leave you scratching your head! Love the work guys yous get me through most work days!

Flem Candango

In what ways has writing, or consuming, true crime content altered your behaviours or perceptions? As consumer of multiple podcasts and books of the genre, mine have shifted. I've found myself looking back on past events, as well as people that I've met, and finding that my understanding of them has changed. Circumstances take on a different tone once you've heard a story where a similar incident has turned very wrong for someone. People who I hadn't taken seriously seem menacing. As for my own behaviours, I'm much more safety conscious. I lock doors, and choose the more populated path when on my own. Nothing paranoid, just more cautious. I am a large-sized male, so I've become more aware of the dangers that women and vulnerable people face - both on the street, and in their relationships, as well as how I could be perceived as an unknown danger. I believe that all of these changes are for the positive.

Would it be possible to load the older episodes (1-100) into Patreon too? At the moment it’s not possible to listen to them without ads.

Nico Saaranen

Case 81 is relatively ancient, but has the team seen the Netflix series “Evil Genius”? I think it revealed a lot more information about the planning of what happened

Joe D

Does anybody feel that Amanda Knox is still holding back relevant information? Secondly, what was everybody’s favorite album of 2023?

James

Are any more episodes from Africa planned?

Rose Cook

Would you ever cover the murder of April Jones, in Machynlleth, Wales? I don't think you've ever covered a case from Wales. There was a documentary about it but it didn't cover anything in a lot of detail like Casefile would. I remember this case as I was in school nearby when it happened and I had friends who got involved in the search for April when she went missing, it had a huge affect on a community that had never experienced anything like it.

Susan Rachel

The Annecy Shootings case fascinated me. So many directions for the detectives to explore. What is your personal opinion of what happened?

Vincent

When will UK listers be able to listen to all the episodes of the new Casefile Presents: The Easey Street Murders? Also, can you give us a teaser for the big 300? By my calculations, this should be released by the end of this year. Will it be a single case or a huge multi-parter?

Marti Gotsov

You put it so well, I feel the way I see circumstances and situations has also shifted since listening to the podcast. although the stories are often dark and unpleasant for some people to ingest, they can also be quite informative and help people spot red flags early on

Lisa Davies

Love Casefile and great to have you back. I have a question about how you go about choosing your media sources. I noticed a couple of references to the Daily Mail in the Meredith episode which had me cringing as it’s a paper of ill-repute in the UK and very much part of the media circus associated with high profile murder cases with a penchant for misogyny.

This is really cool to see. It’s always shocked me how irresponsible the reporting was on this case and while I think Amanda is “strange” I never thought she did it after hearing the rest of the facts. She’s the same age as me and we both traveled abroad at the same time so this case horrified me.
