Absolute banger, as per! Now, you get really good staining and coverage with your contrast paints, how do you manage it? I have tried gloss varnish, satin varnish, matte varnish and the contrast paints always seem to collect well in the recesses, but the open areas are barely stained/coloured at all. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be glorious : D

Wow, that's very peculiar. It almost sounds as if the paints have separated so you're getting more medium than pigment on your brush. If you look at the bottom of the bottles is there a white or cloudy residue?

Well I had thought that too, but they were very well shaken. It seems to happen across brands too, save for a couple of paints that stain quite well. No residue at the bottom of the bottles/pots. I also try to use a dry well for contrasts instead of my wet palette, just in case the bonus moisture is causing problems.

That's so strange, I've never come across something like this before. The fact that it's happening across different brands is even weirder. I thought it could be your primer creating a hydrophobic surface but if it's still happening even after using different types of varnish, then I don't think it could be that. Do you know anyone else having similar problems with the paint?

Will Matthews

The primer was my first guess. I remember using The Army Painter primer and it was basically just a wax varnish xD My hobby group has a total of one member (myself) so I don't know haha. I wonder if I have just managed to use some poorly staining colours? But Wildwood should be so good! The other thing I though it could be is that I have put the contrast paints into dropper bottles, maybe there was some sort of annoying residue in the bottles left from manufacturing and that's causing issues. Unsure. More testing needed. Cheers for the help though!!!

Oh yeah it could be something in the bottles. But you said you have issues with other brands too so I'm not sure. Do let me know if you figure it out! I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help with this.

I'll keep you in the loop! Thanks for replying to my endless comments though 😀
