We are halfway there and our heroes are already looking at a life in each others body. Isn't this like the end of a lot of these short stories? How are they going to get out of this? Are we really going to let them get out of this?

Man they are properly stuck

Lawyer, that's your first move. Get one, tell him the full story. The app wasn't illegal when they started using it, so there should be some grandfathering that applies. Given the reason for this particular swap was mutually allowed, they should be at least legally cleared. Doesn't mean they have a path to transform back, however.

On reflection, civil rights lawyers would have a field day. First they would get an injunction against implementation of the ban, to give people like these two a chance to escape this fate. Swaps back would probably be logged for possible legal action against people they want to prosecute for fraud. So, do you want to be free, or in your own body?

Like there is a definite legal fight in their future, that is going to take way too long to resolve. At least to try to restore people who are in the same situation. But on the downside, they did actually use the technology to commit fraud. I'm not sure the pentality for what they did before the law kicked in. It's not the most severe instance. At the least, Ella would be expelled.

I feel like Victory (Harper), is still in law school at this point in the timeline.

It sounds like it went from this, like, niche gimmick to suddenly being the centerpiece of a massive amount of fraud. Significant enough that it caused an immediate governmental and institutional reaction — which was to just absolutely freak the fuck out. IRL nothing gets passed into law this fast and aggressively unless it’s seen as a very dangerous and imminent threat. Edit: Basically it’s how the government would’ve/should’ve reacted to cryptocurrency if it wasn’t profitable.

Maybe I'll do a story on it, but can easily see a new wave of identity Theft of people tricking victims to click on links to make them agree to a temp body swap, and get their biometrics or commit crimes in their bodies, or just steal them to escape crimes or debt. Someone who is just stealing bodies, racking up massive amounts of debts, then finding someone else who will let them swap with them. Rinse. Repeat.

Natalia

I mean do they even need to steal the body for it to be bad? Doing a temporary swap for an hour, doing some sort of crime, and then innocently swapping back and parting ways would still wreak chaos. Pairing this with a world that uses biometrics for digital security would mean that literally any crime could have the defense “it wasn’t me it was some person who swapped with me and then swapped back”. Legal chaos.

This is a genie they are trying to put back into the bottle before it gets too far.

Sounds like some great ideas for bodyswap stories!

Yeah, I accidently created a universe.

Even if they could file a class action lawsuit, it would be tied up for years in court. So, it seems they had better get used to being each other. And I think Morris is getting the better end of the deal.

By then Morris would have gotten her new degree and a new career.
