We had a trade of Stephanie's education this month, as she picked up a nurse's training.

Some reaction with the Supreme Court ruling today. I think from reading, many have seen I'll put my thoughts in the story. I can't image Stephanie would take this well. Getting it out here.

Saw and posted a pic this afternoon that said, "I would like all the women in my life to pause for a second, take a long, deep breath, and burn everything to the fucking ground."

America sucks

Ampws

I live in the UK and people say the NHS sucks - but I still think its miles ahead of the US health care system.

Wow hot damn that sucks. But yeah with steph becoming a nurse you really have a chance at doing quite a bit of commentary. If you are going this route then there is a LOT of stuff for you to comment on. It could be very interesting and quite thought provoking. Honestly I am excited for you to go this route as you are a great writer who will make it interesting. Be prepared to lose patrons though.

TrueRonin88

On a style note - the second one really how balanced she is now

>Be prepared to lose patrons though. All I can think is; good, let them leave.

Yeah, this isn't a good step in any direction

Will absolutely be commentary on the world. It will continue. Won't be timely, just because of the pace. But yes if people leave because of that, its ok.

The ruling doesn’t outlaw abortions, it only says there’s nothing in the U.S. constitution that guarantees it as a right. Now it is up to each state to allow it or outlaw it. Only a few will outlaw it and that can be changed at the next election. Much easier than modifying the constitution. The saddest day in my life was when my wife aborted our third child because it wouldn’t be convenient. I wanted that child but she insisted it was her decision alone. Our daughter aborted her third child for a similar reason. Anyone ever hear of contraception? Or abstinence for that matter?

I absolutely feel the choice is the woman's alone, at the end of the day. Their right to make that choice for their health care should be protected. It's 9 months of stress on the body and illness. Potentially career ending. Entirely career damaging. Added finacial and time burden after birth. Permiment damage to the body. And is potentially fatal. The deserve the right to choose. Contraception sadly isn't 100%. People also deserve the right to sex. If the husband wants to get a vesectomy, that definitely helps. That said most people seem to agree an abortion is terrible. They would rather not do it. Those that have find it tragic and depressing. But it's a choice they should be able to make.

You are correct, no argument. It’s why I took an unpaid day off from work to drive my wife 135 miles to the closest abortion clinic that would take someone 16 weeks pregnant. We had already had two beautiful children and my wife is a wonderful mother to them. I was successful in my career, so she didn’t have to have a job outside the home. Contraception had failed, so we wound up expecting our third child, which I was really happy about. But she was adamant that she didn’t want to have two so close together. (Our youngest would have been 15 months old when the third one was due to be born.) I had mixed feelings about destroying a fetus, (and still do to some extent.) but I acquiesced and sadly supported her decision since, as you point out, it’s her body and her health. My main point in my earlier comment is that there is nothing in the constitution that guarantees the right to an abortion. It is the Supreme Court’s duty to be certain the constitution is adhered to. It is not their duty to write laws into it as was done with the Roe V Wade decision. This ruling does not outlaw abortions. It simply leaves it to state law, where it’s much easier to change, if the people so choose. Democracy wasn’t destroyed with this ruling, it was reinforced.

It’s a shame that some people think that the bodily autonomy of women is a privilege that should be up for debate at the state level rather than recognizing it as an inalienable human right.

Titania

Also, this ruling opens the door for state and federal governments driven by religious or ideological extremism to roll back and restrict a number of rights relating to bodily autonomy, sexual practices and lifestyle choices. It’s an act of extremist cruelty, period.
