Chapter 42: Sebastian Shaw’s D-Day
—
The night had given way to the first rays of dawn, but the air remained cold and still, almost ominous. Outside the mansion, Shaw stood tall, his stature casting a heavy shadow over the group gathered behind him. The flickering light from the mansion’s windows reflected off the faces of Scott Summers, Bobby Drake, Friedrich von Roehm, and Donald Pierce, along with three dozen heavily armed men.
All of them awaited his command in silence, their breath misty in the morning air.
Shaw’s eyes narrowed as he studied the illuminated room ahead. That was the only room in the mansion that was illuminated. His fingers brushed against the earpiece in his ear. “What do you see going on in that room?”
On the other side of the line, Sage's voice crackled through the static. She sounded hesitant, her usual sharpness dulled by uncertainty.
“I… I don’t know how to say this…” Sage stammered. “It seems... the two of them are engaging in... BDSM. Emma is tied up, but I'm unsure if she’s given her consent.”
Shaw’s eyes flared with rage as he clenched his jaw. He had expected something like this, for Enrique to do something like this, but hearing it confirmed sent a fresh wave of anger surging through him. How dare Enrique Nova lay a hand on his woman?
His mind raced with dark thoughts, but outwardly, he forced a bitter chuckle, glancing sideways at Cyclops. “Destroy the building,” Shaw ordered, his voice cold, but the fury was evident in his eyes.
Cyclops’ jaw tightened at the command. He hated being ordered around, especially by someone like Shaw. But he didn’t argue. He stepped forward, his body tensing as he prepared his optic blast. He raised his hand to his ear, and the visor glowed red.
His eyes locked on the mansion. Bobby took a step back, watching Scott with a smirk. He was eager to see this play out. It’d be funny, among other things, to interrupt Enrique’s good time.
– Vrhmmm!
A crimson beam shot from Cyclops’ visor, a concentrated force of concussive energy blasting toward the lit-up room. The walls exploded, everything shattered, and the explosion rocked the entire building. The force was so strong that the ground beneath them quaked, and the rising sun cast an eerie glow over the dust and smoke that now engulfed the mansion.
Shaw’s lips curled into a satisfied grin as he watched the devastation unfold. “Good,” he muttered under his breath. “Surround the building. Make sure there’s no escape.”
The armed men quickly moved into position, encircling what remained of the mansion. The explosion hadn’t leveled it entirely, but large chunks of debris littered the ground. The once-grand building now stood fractured, its walls crumbling under the pressure.
Through the thick dust and rubble, two figures slowly began to rise. First, a flash of white and gold—Enrique, his suit immaculate, but his face dark with anger. Then it was Emma, coughing, as she lay nearby, still tied in BDSM handcuffs, her body shimmering in its diamond form. She wore nothing but skimpy lingerie, her skin gleaming like the crystal she had turned into, as she struggled to sit up.
Enrique’s silver eyes swept across the circle of armed men surrounding them, his expression grim as he surveyed the destruction. “....”
Then, without a word, his eyes locked onto Shaw. A growl escaped his throat, and in a swift and fluid motion, his [Heat Vision] shot out, a stream of golden energy hurtling toward Shaw. The energy that had melted the chitauri leviathan rushed forward.
Yet, Shaw barely flinched. He lifted a hand, his grin widening as the heat vision struck him, but instead of burning through him, the energy was absorbed into his body. He chuckled darkly as kinetic force rippled around him, his body glowing faintly as he absorbed the raw power.
“Kekekeke...” Shaw’s laughter echoed through the clearing. Scott glared at Enrique from behind his visor, his fists clenched in silent fury, while Bobby’s smirk widened seeing his technique fail.
Enrique’s frown deepened as he looked at Scott and Bobby. “Guys, what's this? Why are you with Shaw?”
Scott stepped forward, his voice a growl. “Shut up, Nova.” His finger pointed at Emma, still bound and shimmering on the ground. “You were raping a woman, and you dare question me?!”
Enrique blinked, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. “Um... this is just a kinky play,” he explained, his voice somewhat sheepish. Emma cleared her throat, glancing away, refusing to meet anyone’s gaze.
It was obvious from her reaction – as he undid her chains – that he was telling the truth. Shaw’s scowl deepened, his fury growing at the casual tone. Bobby blinked in confusion, unsure what to make of the situation, but Scott didn’t seem convinced. His hands were still clenched into fists, the rage barely contained.
“Emma!” Shaw barked, veins popping in his head. “What the hell are you doing? You think this is a game? You think you can leave me and throw yourself at this... boy?!”
Emma lifted her head, her diamond skin gleaming under the rising sun. Her blue eyes were sharp as daggers. “I wasn’t going to sit idle while you kept using me, Shaw.” Her voice was firm, cold. “So, I found myself a better man. Shouldn’t you be happy, seeing your Queen find happiness?”
Shaw’s eyes widened in disbelief, and then his face twisted with rage. He let out a low growl and flicked a penny from his pocket. The coin glinted in the light as he flicked it with enough force to create a kinetic storm behind it. The penny shot forward, aiming directly for Emma’s head. But was it powerful enough to crush her diamond skull? He waited and watched.
Enrique ruined his moment. In the blink of an eye, he stepped forward, his hand raised. The penny stopped dead in its tracks, clutched between his fingers. He scowled at Shaw, his eyes glowing faintly. “Please don’t throw pennies at my woman, Mr. Shaw.”
Shaw sneered. “You bastard. Are you mocking me right now? Kegh. You alone, what can you even do?” His voice dripped with disdain. “Emma’s dead the moment she cancels her transformation. My men will litter her with bullets.”
Enrique’s lips twitched into a dangerous smile, lightning crackling around his fingers. “I don’t need her help to deal with this stupid group. You should have brought all your people. I am enough.”
His threat sounded menacing, but before Enrique could act, Scott stepped forward, his voice low. “Are you? You’ll have to pass through me first.” His hand touched his visor, and it began to glow once again. “You bastard!”
Enrique raised an eyebrow. “Scott, you saw Emma. She gave her consent. Isn’t this too much to side with a villain?”
“You touched Jean,” Scott snarled, his fingers hovering over his visor. “I don’t care. Die!”
Without warning, Scott unleashed another blast, the concussive force slamming into Enrique before he could react. The air exploded, and the impact sent him flying backward, disappearing into the thick cloud of dust.
Shaw’s laughter filled the air as the force of the blast echoed around them. “Kekeke... I didn’t know you were this weak,” Shaw sneered, his grin widening. “It’s over already, Enrique Nova.”
But before his laughter could fully settle, the sky began to darken. Clouds churned above them, swirling violently as the air grew heavy. A distant rumble of thunder echoed through the clearing. Shaw’s grin faltered, his eyes narrowing as he glanced up.
The clouds continued to roil, the wind picked up speed, and the distant thunder grew louder and closer. It was a Storm Summoning.
From the shadows, Enrique emerged, his body now cloaked in a shimmering aura of electricity. His eyes glowed with a fierce, otherworldly light, and the crackling sound of thunder accompanied each step he took. The air around him sparked with raw energy as he tapped into his ability: [Thunder God's Wrath].
The battle was far from over.
Scott and Bobby stood across from Enrique, their eyes burning with a mix of fury and surprise. Enrique suddenly looked much stronger, his figure looked dangerous because of the growing storm clouds swirling in the sky.
Bobby was the first to move, pushing through the fear. His hand thrust forward as jagged spikes of ice rose from the ground and into the air. “You’re done for, Nova!” he shouted, his voice filled with anger as sharp shards of frozen water surged toward Enrique.
But Enrique, using Thunder God’s Wrath which granted him multiple lightning abilities, barely flinched. The electricity surrounding his body danced like wildfire, and as the ice connected with him, it melted instantly, evaporating into nothing more than steam.
“....!”
He grinned, unfazed by Bobby’s attack. “That all you got, Iceman?” His voice dripped with amusement as he flew downward, lightning crackling at his feet. “Even Shaw hits better than you.”
Bobby gritted his teeth, forming larger icicles in response, hurling them with even more force, but it was futile. Every shard disintegrated the moment it touched the electric aura surrounding Enrique’s body.
It was like trying to attack a storm itself—impossible to stop, impossible to penetrate.
Before Bobby could react, Scott Summers stepped forward, his visor glowing red as he fired a concussive blast. “Move aside, Bobby!” he barked. The powerful beam of red energy shot toward Enrique, cutting through the air like a knife.
Enrique responded with a grin, floating in the air. His eyes glowed golden as his own heat vision erupted from his eyes, a scorching beam of energy that clashed against Scott’s blast.
– Vrhmmm!
– Vrhmmm!
The two forces collided mid-air, creating a blinding flash of light that illuminated the entire area. The sheer energy of their beams caused the ground beneath them to tremble, as if the earth itself was quaking from the impact.
The two forces locked in place, both men pushing their limits as their powers clashed. The sky above brightened, the dawn light mixing with the intense energy radiating from the collision. For a moment, it seemed like a stalemate—neither giving an inch.
But then, Sebastian Shaw’s voice cut through the chaos. “Shoot him. Now!”
The armed men didn’t hesitate. A hail of bullets rained down on Enrique from every angle, the sound of gunfire echoing through the clearing. But the bullets barely touched him, either disintegrating upon impact with the electric field surrounding his body or ricocheting harmlessly off the ground.
Friedrich von Roehm shot pebbles at him, his superhuman strength from his werewolf lineage making them stronger than bullets, while Donald Pierce shot beams of plasma from his cyborg arm.
Enrique growled, the storm intensifying as he stood against the assault. Then, to his surprise, Shaw leaped forward, launching himself between the two energy beams. His eyes glinted with dark amusement as he absorbed the kinetic energy from the beams clashing around him. His body glowed faintly as he grew stronger, more powerful.
“Come here, Nova!” Shaw bellowed, his voice booming as he propelled himself through the Heat Vision toward Enrique with a devastating punch. The impact sent Enrique flying backward, the force so strong it created a shockwave that rippled across the battlefield.
But Enrique was far from done. In the blink of an eye, he vanished, teleporting behind Shaw. With Thunder God’s Wrath, he had control over the ionized air around them. His speed was unmatched as he appeared behind Shaw, slamming him with a powerful punch to the back of his head.
Shaw barely flinched, grinning as he turned to face Enrique. “You really think you can hurt me, boy?” His voice was mocking, filled with arrogance as he straightened up. “I absorb all energy. You can’t touch me.”
Enrique scowled, frustration flashing across his face. Shaw’s ability to absorb kinetic energy made him nearly invincible, and nothing Enrique had thrown at him seemed to work. But… it’s not as if he didn’t have cards of his own.
“Hahahaha-!” Just as Shaw began to laugh, his amusement was cut short.
A gasp escaped Shaw’s lips as his body stiffened, his eyes wide with shock. Blood splattered onto the ground as an invisible blade seemed to impale his chest, piercing through his heart with deadly precision.
Shaw staggered, his knees buckling beneath him as he coughed up blood, confusion written all over his face. “What…?” Shaw’s voice was barely a whisper as he looked down at the invisible wound, his body trembling. His powers faltered, the kinetic energy he’d absorbed draining from him as his vision blurred.
The air shimmered green, and Rogue appeared before him, her form materializing out of thin air. Her hand was still outstretched, the illusion that had hidden her slowly fading away. The others were still hidden, and they didn’t have any reason to show themselves yet. Anna’s eyes were cold, unyielding as she stared down at Shaw, who was now on his knees, his life slipping away.
“I knew blunt force wouldn’t work on you,” Rogue said, her voice low and dangerous. “So I just went straight for the heart with a blade.” Just as Enrique had told her.
Shaw’s eyes bulged, blood dribbling from his lips as he tried to speak, but no words came out. He collapsed onto the ground with a heavy thud, falling face-first into a growing pool of his own blood.
Dead.
Sebastian Shaw was defeated… just like that.
The battlefield fell into an eerie silence. Everyone, from the armed men to Scott and Bobby, stood frozen in place, stunned by the suddenness of Shaw’s demise. Enrique paused for a moment too, his eyes sharp as he looked down at Shaw’s lifeless body.
When he was sure the man wasn’t faking it, he grinned.
Nearby, Emma Frost was grinning wider. Returning to her human form, she took advantage of the shock and raised her hand with a snap of her fingers.
A wave of psionic energy rippled through the air, and in an instant, the armed men surrounding them collapsed, falling unconscious to the ground like puppets with their strings cut. The cyborg and the fake werewolf also fell.
Bobby and Scott snapped their heads around, shocked. The silence was broken by Bobby’s voice, his tone filled with disbelief and horror. “A-Anna?!” He shouted, his eyes wide as he stared at Rogue. “You just… you killed a person! How could you?!”
Rogue’s gaze flicked toward him, her expression unreadable as she scowled. “He deserved it. You know that.”
Before she could say more, Scott’s voice rang out. “You murdered him!” His visor glowed red once again as he aimed his blast directly at Rogue. He grumbled, “You… You’re not any better than Shaw. Enrique has corrupted you!”
The concussive beam shot forward, faster than anyone could react. Rogue’s eyes widened in surprise, and she braced herself for the impact.
But before the blast could reach her, the sky erupted with a deafening crack of thunder. A torrent of lightning rained down from the storm clouds above, crashing into the ground between Scott and Rogue. The sheer force of the lightning strike sent shockwaves through the battlefield, and the energy from Scott’s blast dissipated in the face of the storm’s power.
Scott looked up in shock, surprised at how powerful Enrique’s lightning was… except it wasn’t him. He saw Ororo Munroe descending from the darkened clouds, her white hair whipping wildly in the wind as she glared at him with disapproval.
“Enough!” Storm’s voice boomed, commanding the attention of everyone on the field as the lightning crackled around her. Her eyes glowed with power, and the storm above them raged on as if matching her fury.
Scott clenched his fists, his jaw set in anger, but he didn’t fire again.
All of a sudden, the air was thick with more tension than possible. The sky still crackled with the last remnants of lightning that had fallen moments earlier. Storm hovered just above the ground, her eyes glowing as she confronted Scott.
“You’d have killed Anna with that,” she said, her voice sharp as thunder. Her gaze was unyielding as she accused him of an attempt at murder.
Scott scoffed, his jaw clenching. “Yeah, and?!” He didn’t care, not anymore. His eyes briefly flicked to the unconscious body of Shaw, then back to Anna. He shouted, his voice full of venom. “She killed a man! She deserves to die!”
Before anyone else could react, Bobby stepped forward, his face twisted in anger. “She doesn’t, Scott!” His voice was desperate. “Anna did nothing wrong!”
Scott growled. Why’s he acting up now? This brat. His ruby visor glinted in the dim light as he turned on Bobby. For a moment, everything stood still, and then Scott’s hand moved toward his visor. He was going to shoot Bobby.
Instinctively, Bobby raised his hands, summoning sharp spikes of ice, creating a wall between him and Scott. The two clashed in an explosion of red energy and shimmering ice. Sparks flew as the beams of energy collided with the cold, creating a spectacular light show.
Emma Frost, standing off to the side, watched the scene unfold, barely holding back a smirk. Her subtle influence over their minds had worked perfectly. They were tearing each other apart, just as planned.
“Oh no, not an in-fight…” Ororo watched the scene in horror, unsure what to do.
“This is intense,” Tigra appeared next to Enrique, having come out of the illusion of invisibility. Now only one person remained in it. Trigra’s posture was relaxed despite the chaos around them, for the battle had basically ended.
“It sure is,” Enrique’s arm was wrapped around her waist, his hand casually groping her ass. “You’re not half bad, Scott!” He shouted in an attempt to catch the man’s attention. His fingers played with Tigra’s hair, the red strands catching the light, drawing Scott’s gaze like a moth to a flame. Scott froze, his eyes narrowing as he saw the way Enrique looked at Tigra, the way he inhaled her scent, the smug smirk playing on his lips.
Something inside Scott snapped. “You bastard!” he roared, turning away from Bobby and firing another concussive blast at Enrique.
At the same time, Bobby, seeing Enrique’s other hand resting possessively on Anna’s waist, unleashed a storm of ice in his direction. This time, Emma wasn’t even fucking with their mind.
As always, even if his suit looked churned at parts, Enrique was faster.
He raised a hand and snapped his fingers, waving his hand downward. The sky and its clouds responded, sending down a shower of lightning. It was Divine Judgment. The beams of energy and ice collided with the bolts of lightning, vaporizing into nothingness.
When the lightning faded, Rogue stepped forward. Her eyes were cold as she slipped her hand through the air. With a flick of her wrist, a green dagger flew through the air, slicing cleanly through Bobby’s arm. The sound of the blade cutting flesh was sharp, followed by Bobby’s scream of pain. He clutched at the wound, freezing it over to stop the bleeding.
“How dare you attack Enrique?!” Rogue’s voice was filled with fury as she glared at Bobby, who was now on his knees, trembling from the shock and pain.
“Everyone, please calm down! This is a mess!” In the chaos, Ororo moved swiftly behind Scott, her arms wrapping around him in an attempt to restrain him.
But Scott was stronger than she expected. He struggled violently and, in the heat of the moment, released another beam of energy—this time straight into Ororo’s face. “Argh!” The impact sent her flying back, her body crashing against the ground, unconscious.
Enrique’s face darkened with some real rage this time. He liked Ororo enough to get mad at the sight. In an instant, he was in front of Scott. His fist connected with Scott’s face, sending him stumbling back. He didn’t stop. Another punch followed, slamming into his shoulder, filling the area with the sound of crunching bones. And then he broke his other shoulder too, making his hands useless.
“You little bitch!” Enrique shouted as Scott’s visor cracked as he continued to hit him, each blow harder than the last, anger fueling his strength.
“Stop!” Jean’s voice cut through the sound of bones crunching, filled with desperation. She rushed forward, her hands grabbing Enrique’s arm just as he was about to throw another punch. “Enrique, stop!” she begged, her voice shaking. “Please!”
She couldn’t use her powers to stop him; she had made an Oath not to. Otherwise, she would definitely have used them.
Enrique turned to her, his eyes cold. “He tried to kill Anna. And then Storm. You love him so much that you’re willing to let him kill all your friends, Jean?! Well, fuck you because I am not.”
Jean’s eyes widened and filled with tears as she shook her head. “No… no, it’s not that. I… I’ve moved on, I wouldn’t mindlessly protect him!” She swallowed hard, her voice barely a whisper. “But I don’t want him dead either, please! Jail him or something, but please stop! Please…”
Enrique scoffed, shaking his head. “You might have moved on, but he hasn’t, Jean. That’s what’s causing all this. He’s a manchild who can’t take a breakup, for fuck’s sake!” Enrique growled, “He called me a rapist, and when I proved otherwise, he attacked me saying he doesn’t care. He’s a brat!”
Under him, Scott groaned in pain, but he didn’t have the strength to form any words. Jean looked at Scott and then at Enrique. She couldn’t defend him… and to be honest, she didn’t want to anymore.
She bit her lip, unable to say anything. Her heart ached, but she knew Enrique was right.
Enrique’s expression softened as he stood up from Scott and stepped closer to her. He didn’t hesitate as his hand gently slid around her waist, pulling her into him. His voice was low, seductive. “Fine, I’ll stop. But… you have to cooperate with me for this,” he said, his hand bold on her body. “Allow me to show him that you’ve moved on, yeah?”
Jean blinked, her heart racing as she looked up at him. She realized what it meant, and honestly… It was disgusting. She knew it was a terrible idea, one that would only make Scott angrier, but... she couldn’t deny the attraction she felt toward Enrique. If this was what it’d take for Scott to survive, even though he’d hate her, she’d do it.
She groaned softly, her defenses crumbling.
With a sigh, Jean closed her eyes, letting Enrique pull her closer. His lips found hers, the kiss deep and possessive. His hands roamed her body, groping her as she moaned softly into his mouth. She felt her body responding, the heat between them undeniable. Her gentle, green eyes flicked down to Scott once before she looked up at Enrique, locking her arms around his neck and deepening the kiss.
Scott, barely conscious, watched the scene unfold in front of him. His eyes filled with a mix of disbelief and rage as he saw Enrique’s hands on Jean, the woman he once loved, now moaning for another man. His hands twitched, but he was too broken to do anything.
Bobby also did the same. With his arm missing and the stump frozen, he glared at them, helpless and furious, as he watched Jean melt into Enrique’s arms. Just like how Rogue must have had a few months ago…
The sun rose in the sky, and Enrique smirked, his eyes gleaming with victory as he held Jean in his arms. She looked away shyly while the others watched, powerless to stop him.
