Totally minor thing, but since you seem interested, Nikes just looked like that in the mid 80s. People were buying hi-tops way more than low-tops back then, and velcro was all the rage, so shoes with straps were everywhere. Any resemblance to Marty McFly's shoes is purely coincidence.

It's Beans!! Oh wait, wrong reactor. I thought the same thing about the sound being from an 80's video game. I was waiting for some 8-bit graphics to pop up. You had it right with The Jetsons.

Commenting whilst watching: The reason the Terminator went from having normal hair and eyebrows to having spiked hair and no eyebrows is because his hair was singed when he jumped through the fire of the exploding car right after leaving Tech-Noir. Cameron didn't have to do this, but he did because he's all about the details. This is a detail most people don't even notice or realize. Edit: And of course now that I've finished I see you read about the eyebrows. But I'm not deleting this comment. I will say The Terminator is far superior to Cameron's previous "film," Piranha II: The Spawning.

The film was so low-budget that the audio is not even in stereo. It's mono.

this movie came out before i was born. i actually saw Terminator 2 in theatres though, i think i was 6 or 7 years old at the time, that was the first Terminator movie i ever saw and my first memory in a movie theatre!!! or maybe it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...or was it Who Framed Roger Rabbit??? was i born in a movie theatre???? ANYWAYS...i saw Terminator 2 first and i have been in love with that movie ever since. i discovered this movie later and it has been growing on me over the past 20 years. such a classic. James Cameron...you are a genius!!!! so i really think you are gonna love Terminator 2. 6 or 7 year old me saw that one in theatres and the ending made me cry!!! cant wait to watch that one with you!!! I will forgive you for not recognizing Michael Biehn, aka Kyle Reese, aka Corporal Hicks from Aliens!!! seems like from '84-'86 that James Cameron already had some preferred actors. if you want some more iconic lines from Arnie, then you gotta check out The Predator from 1987. it is another classic action movie with a scifi element from the 80's. So we got a young Bill Paxton in The Terminator for a brief moment. we love him right? well...he happens to star in a movie alongside Kevin Bacon and TOM HANKS in a movie directed by Ron Howard entitled Apollo 13. this movie is from the same era as Jurassic Park and it is safe to say you and i both loved that movie!!! i loved Apollo 13 so, maybe, you'll love it too??? Just a suggestion...

Saw this in the theater when it came out. That was right after I had moved out to LA. It is a horror movie. A sci-fi horror movie. What impressed me most about it (remember, CGI wasn't a thing in 1984. Everything was stop motion, miniatures, practical models, or regular animation. Compositing, etc.) This worked pretty well, and I was easily able to suspend my disbelief. What impressed me most about the movie is that, at the end, once all the human flesh was burned off and all that was left was the hyper-alloy combat chassis... you realized there was no way they were ever going to be able to stop this thing! It was a machine! Cold, heartless, relentless. Arnold did a good job of being imposing and intimidating, but he still looked human on the outside. So, I'm not going to tell you anything about Terminator 2, except to say this. You mentioned how this one is a horror movie. It's like this... Alien was a horror movie. Aliens (which Cameron directed) was an action movie on a horror/monster theme. Terminator is a horror movie. Terminator 2 is an action movie on a sci-fi horror theme. It's a completely different kind of movie, but I think it works really, really well. Ah, German shepherds. Our family was a German shepherd family. Mom's dog, before I was born, was blonde (not white) German shepherd named Bitte. She was actually from Germany. I'm not sure how Mom ended up with her. I don't remember ever hearing that part of the story. When my older brother was born, I'm told that she adopted him. She died before I was born. When I was born, we had an all black German shepherd named... Black. Not original, but appropriate. Black was my dog. Oh, and how I loved him. He would sleep in my room, and hang out with me. He was huge. (Not just because I was little... that just made him bigger.) He was extremely large for the breed, and very massive. And he would bark at everything. We had a big picture window in the front room, and when anyone would get near the house, he'd be in the window, this huge, black, ferocious-looking German shepherd. He terrified everyone. It was great! He was also wicked smart, and mischievous. You had to watch him closely, or he'd mess with you. Just for fun. When Black died, we got Bandit, a somewhat normally colored German shepherd with a black mask over his eyes... hence the name. He was Mom's dog, and that wasn't any fun at all. He barked at me, and growled every time I had to walk past her room. And, when my brother would beat me up, Bandit would grab ahold of my pants leg, as if to say, "I'll hold him while you hit him!" Yeah... not my favorite dog. I wasn't all that sad when he died. Then, Mom got Beowulf. An all black male shepherd who was small and sweet, and had a floppy ear, and was dumb as a post. At least he wasn't out to get me. And, then, I left for college. There were 2 other dogs that I didn't know very well. Crystal, and Bulova (the watch dog. (Mom's joke.)) The dog my wife and I have now is an old Westie. Much smaller than a German shepherd, but hearty. He's a terrier, so a completely different kind of breed entirely. We got him as a puppy, from a friend who is a breeder. And, he's been the life of the party for a long time now. He's finally starting to slow down a bit. He still won't let you just pet him, though. He looks relaxed, but he's like a tightly wound spring ready to leap into action at an instant's notice. It's like trying to pet the Tazmanian Devil. Ready to play. Always. Always. Well... I hope you get a German shepherd with a good disposition. I loved Black. He was a good boy. Thank you for the watch. I'll look forward to the next one.

My Ex Boyfriend

When this movie was first released I was a little to young. But a few years later my good buddies single mom want to be cool let us watch it. When we got to the scene where the terminator is cutting his eye out she started to have regrets. Lol. She still deny to this day that she let us watch it. Arnold is definitely one those classic 80’s and 90’s stars that I love to watch again and again. Can’t wait for T2. It is one of those cases where the sequel is better then the OG. Mainly because they had a much bigger budget to work with and filmed some great sequences and scenes. Total icons.

You won't realize this, but 911 didn't become a nationwide number for emergency services until 1999. A few places had it starting in the early-to-mid-80s, but it was very scattered around the country. It's easy to think we've had 911 for a long time, but it hasn't really been that long! When Sarah called the police, she was just calling whatever number was listed in the phone book. You know, the other star of the movie! :)

David Crabtree

Try to go into T2 as blind as possible. Don't even read a synopsis.

Jason McNeil

CGI was a thing in 1984, just not as good as what we see today (obviously). Tron 1982 for example used CGI.

Darth Nihilus

Love the reaction Shan. I’m surprised that you recognized Lance Hendrickson from Aliens but not that Kyle Reese was Michael Biehn who played Corporal Hicks in the same movie. Love your reactions and especially the trivia sections. Looking forward to your T2 reaction.

Ken Langston

I wonder if the nightclub scene in John Wick took inspiration from this film. I can see similarities but the Terminator is just brutally efficient, and John Wick is more graceful and choreographed.

Sean Novack

All I can say is that Sarah Conner and Ellen Ripley are two of the greatest kick-ass action heroines in cinema history. You'll love T2.

Houston727Gal

Keep going with the sequels! They give you everything you want😀

Leigh

And check out Ripley’s cutting edge Reebok high tops in Aliens!
