Agree with everything about the cinematography - stunning! This movie is SO special. It stands on its own, but also connects strongly and in all the right ways with the original. Love the new characters. Phoenix and Hangman were written so well, as was everyone else. I can't even say enough great things about Jennifer Connelly. Every second of her on screen and them together was a home run. Your reactions to the opening "Danger Zone" and when Mav proves the mssion can be flown had me grinning ear to ear because I felt exactly like that when I was in the theater. Love love love this one. Thanks for a fun watch!

Hollywood is running out of ideas. The mission, fly through a canyon (or a trench) and shot a target that is 3 meters. The second plane lost its laser guide so they shot blind, or did they use the force. Where is Luke Skywalker when you need him? One guy was even named Hondo. That's close enough to Han for me.

Had a lot of fun with this! Couple notes - saw/enjoyed your Top Gun reaction and by coincidence my first nickname - Hollywood. ...Owned Top Gun on (ahem) VHS, one of my first movies ever to own. Rare instance of a sequel out-performing its predecessor. Once of Cruise's better, more mature and nuanced performances (from a guy who doesn't do much of that). Did you catch it? Penny was referred to in the first movie by Goose when Mav is getting chewed out over "making high speed passes over five air control towers and one admiral's daughter".

Loved watching this one through with you. I was able to catch it in Cinemark XD Imax when it came out opening weekend. It was packed in that theatre, which provided one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had going in-person. Our seats were literally shaking as the planes took off in the intro. I did first see Miles Teller in Whiplash, also in the theatre, and agree with you. That one was a well-deserved Oscar for J.K. Simmons. One of my favorites. If you enjoyed seeing Miles Teller perform Great Balls of Fire, there is a music video in which we get to hear the group perform the entire song from inside the bar, instead of cutting back-and-forth to Tom on the outside. It's so much fun! I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the line "Do some of that pilot shit!," because I was sure I saw a light bulb go off when I heard you repeat it back. I knew going in that Val Kilmer was no longer speaking, but had a cameo, but I had no idea they had found a way to give us his voice again. I completely lost it on that when the first time through. Anyway, great choice. Can't wait for the next one.

Because they said the size of the target was 3 meters is what made me think of Star Wars. If they didn't say that I probably would of never thought of it. It was a 2 meter target in Star Wars.

Can never go wrong with a Simpson/Bruckheimer movie!!!
