The Muppets (2011) and Muppets Most Wanted (2014) are both great and funny movies as well.

Such a heartwarming movie. I had a smile the whole time watching this with you. The joke with Gonzo is that nobody knows what he is. Trivia from the movie Super 8 in regards to rigging up a car with a driver in the back seat. Since Elle Fanning was 12 years old while filming her driving scene, it was illegal for her to actually drive, so they had a stunt person driving the car with a mini-steering wheel and monitor in the backseat. "What's weird is, that's legal." J.J. Abrams stated on the Blu-ray commentary. As time goes by not many people will realize the people we see are cameos. Sesame Street characters and Muppet characters were all under the control of Jim Henson.

When you mentioned it in your list, I said 'fun cameos of stars you probably don’t know'. I was right about that. :) There's no scene in moviedom that makes me cry as reliably as the final scene where they're making the movie. "Life's like a movie, write your own ending, keep believing, keep pretending." I mean come on.

9:12 - So, for wide shots, Jim Henson is sat in a small specially-adapted diving bell fitted with rubber hoses for his hands and a small TV monitor so he can see what he's doing situated behind and underneath the log Kermit's sitting on. Steve Whitmire and Kathy Mullen are operating Kermit's right hand (on the banjo's fretboard) via a remote-control mechanism (note that this makes Kermit a lefty... ;) ). For close-ups, Kermit is being operated the same way as usual with Jim controlling the mouth and left hand and Steve/Kathy controlling the right hand with a rod.

This would have come out when I was seven. I don't know if I saw it in the theater or not, but I know we had the soundtrack and listened to it a LOT (I still do from time to time). My older brother and I used sing and act out "Movin' Right Along" with him as Kermit and me as Fozzie. My favorite song is "I'm Going to Go Back There Someday" which makes me cry every time. My brother died in January 2020 and "Rainbow Connection" was played at his funeral as he was a big fan of the Muppets and especially Kermit.

So happy you moved this one up! This was definitely made before my time also, but there is something about the comedic atmosphere that captures this moment in time. Every human with a speaking line is a legend, who was a host on their TV variety show. The Great Gonzo's official scientific classification is a Weirdo, not a bird. We talked about this at Christmas, but most of the muppeteers were also regular performers on Sesame Street, with Frank Oz being Jim Henson's right hand. He performed Yoda, Fozzie, Miss Piggy, Cookie Monster, Bert, Sam Eagle, Grover, & Animal. Henson and Oz performed the Swedish Chef together. Oz also directed Little Shop of Horrors, which we know you loved! The practical effects achieved here in the wide shots were simplified in later films by the muppet performers actually being filmed on-screen and removed later in post.

The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and Bear in the Big Blue House are all considered Muppets. Other Jim Henson projects like Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are Creatures

If you're ever in a mood to ugly-cry, watch Jim Henson's funeral. Much of it is on YouTube.

Muppets From Space is kind of Gonzo's origin story

This came out when I was five, one of the very first films I saw in theaters. I was obsessed with Sesame Street and The Muppet Show from my earliest years, so it's great to see you enjoy this masterpiece. (Bonus: I got to meet Caroll Spinney/Big Bird about a year before he passed away. Wonderful human being.)
