I always related to Erika more especially because I was not princess like at all, with the subplot with Wolfie learning how to be himself really moving me. When my sister and I sang this together she would always sing Anneliese's part and I Erika's. But looking back I really relate to Anneliese having to be a person who is always proper and calmly doing what's expected of her, being in control of her emotions while not having control of the situation.

Yeah that totally makes sense to me as well! I think a lot of people who relate to Erika may also be queer. Like The Cat’s Meow and all the stuff with Wolfie is such a queer allegory. But I think it also works for anyone else who fits outside of a social norm, like being a tomboy etc etc. Thanks so much for pledging and commenting!
