‘Princess Problems’ Is My Most Hated Disney Song

'Princess Problems' from the new live-action Snow White is now my most hated Disney song - shallow, vapid, and bordering on cruel, Disney will pat themselves on the back for making a Princess who "doesn't dream of true love" and "won't be saved by the man", but in the same movie, create a male love interest who takes huge steps backwards compared to the 1930s animated prince. This Video Essay will break down the problems with Jonathan's characterization from multiple angles (promise/progress/payoff, likeability/competence/initiative) and explain the problem with Disney's Leading Men beyond just this movie. 00:00 - 'Princess Problems' butchers Snow White's 'Empowerment' 00:51 - Why Songwriting Fundamentals Are WASTED Here (Composition & Instrumentation) 04:21 - How Jonathan Wastes Our Time (Storytelling/Lyric Issues) 09:00 - Why Jonathan Is So Easy To Hate (Storytelling/Lyric Issues) 12:13 - Snow White Won't Be "Saved By The Prince" But Her Abuse Will Be Minimized By This Chronic Mansplainer 15:05 - How I'd Fix Princess Problems Against My Will (Premise Rewrite) 17:15 - Every Character NEEDS To Have THIS (Premise Rewrite) 22:40 - Disney Is Sending Harmful Messages To Young Boys Thanks to Robin Rising for editing down the raw footage so I could focus on being funny!: https://www.youtube.com/@robinrising_/videos References: Brandon Sanderson: https://www.youtube.com/@UC3g-w83Cb5pEAu5UmRrge-A "The Disney Villain" by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas Dahlia Katz for her Character Building Pyramid Various Musical Theatre Songwriting Resources i watched the live action snow white movie so you don't have to 🍎💀💋 (snow white review): https://youtu.be/6eqli0ZVhOk?si=U_OtnFr4JUaH5HK- I had to use the Modern Gurlz review for footage because looking for any footage of Jonathan was like trying to get a photo of big foot.
