As a lifelong small town dweller and planning & zoning commissioner in the small town I call home, this video is near and dear to my heart. Not only did small rural towns have excellent "urban" cores but there were many street corner businesses scattered throughout residential areas Sadly, corner bars, corner grocery stores, etc. in small towns are pretty well a thing of the past. With small towns in my region, there has been an effort toward revitalization of central business districts which I think it a great thing. But ultimately I hope that our zoning codes will someday allow for those street corner businesses again throughout town.

I imagine some of the people from these towns are so defensive because there town lives and dies by the through traffic of whatever adjacent freeway they’re near and the money they bring in to their towns
