Hello!

Hope that everyone is doing well, even with these wild fires causing problems. I'm working on the next video that should be out this weekend, its about the new Acela's and how the latest news on them has been framed wrongly (also I'll taking some pot shots at Alstom in the video).

Otherwise I have a question for y'all. I've been talking with a few friends and other creators about the idea of throwing a very large public event with the theme of planning/transit. This event would be less serious and more of a celebration of the topics and the creators that we all love.

I've been leaning toward the idea of a gala/awards type ceremony (gives me an excuse to dress up for fun), were we can have a panel, then showing, with possibly "Urbanist" type awards for both people, towns, and transit agencies.

Another idea would be throwing a festival at a transit museum where there's music and a stage for some events. I'm not sure exactly what would happen at both the gala or festival but these ideas have been floating in my mind for awhile. Either way I feel like the urbanist/transit nerds deserve some fun event that isn't just a conference. Either way I want this hosted at a relevant place *with transit* (I've been leaning toward the B&O Museum).

Let me know what you think,

Alan

Either sounds like a great idea. Would strongly push for it to be someplace along the NEC (B&O would be fun!) What distinguishes a festival from a gala for you? Dress code, anything else?

This partially sounds like TransportationCamp--maybe this can become an optional social event that happens in conjunction with it? Although to go this route you're essentially out of time to do something this year because the PHL event is in two weeks (http://transportationcamp.org/events/phl2023-summer/).

yes dress code and also it would be well planned with a timed show essentially

I love the people that host Transitcamp, but this would lean more into dressing up and having a show attached (if its the gala)

A transit party sounds fun.

Oh, that's interesting for sure! It is a small venue, and I am reminded of it due to your fantastic video on Denver’s A Line and RTD in general. Down south of Denver in Colorado Springs, there is the Pikes Peak Trolley Museum. The Museum has a bunch of old SEPTA street cars that they wish to bring into service someday. I think it would be interesting if you could do a video on the retirement of the SEPTA street cars and bring light to their eventual rebirth in Colorado and visit the museum here. The Museum does use an old Manitou Springs and Pikes Peak Cong Railway car for events. I understand this is very niche. I only mention it as an idea.

Love these concepts. Count me in. Love to see everyone in a tux or gown. 🥲
