ive been looking forward to this!!

Thank you for being so honest with your thoughts on this. It really helped me realize what felt off about the documentary, even though I couldn’t quite put it into words. I really loved seeing the part where they look back, but I agree that so much of the story was missing. Honestly, it should’ve been longer and more well put.

Reagan Eason

I need you two to react the Zane Lowe interview it is so good !!!!

Reagan Eason

Definitely right that is how I felt!!!!!!

13:30 it's not the instru they use for their intro for the comeback live? This guitare it's like the Same

I totally agree with you here at the 1:30:30 mark. In my personal opinion, I felt like this documentary was not good and shouldn't be considered as a documentary. This documentary felt so disappointing. For example, when I watched Suga's documentary "D-Day," I thought it was a great documentary because we actually follow through his journey of making the album in the first place and watching the progression and conclusion be fufilled. I think SIMPLY THE STYLISTIC DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HYBE CREATING A DOCUMENTARY VS AN AMERICAN COMPANY IE NETFLIX BEING THE DIRECTOR OF THE STYLISTIC DIFFERENCE SHOWS A LOT HERE. It felt so disorganized, felt so anxious, with no positive return (conclusion or progression like you said) like the title says. Out of the 14 songs of the album, we only got see the behind the scene of 4 songs: Normal, Swim, 2.0, and Body to Body. As a Korean American, I just feel so angry at this missed opportunity to explain Arirang as the theme of this album but also what it means to us Koreans. I swear if this documentary was episodic and was split into different episodes. When this dropped, I was super excited to watch it because I had stayed up to watch the BTS LIVE Show at Korea and listened to the album and then I saw this. Then as an Army, it pissed me off even more given the amount of times I thought the translations could've come across better or even following the individual story wasn't portrayed all that well. UGH. I doesn't feel like this documentary was made from an authentic heart of portraying the story of the boys and it feels like it wasn't made from a fan of BTS so I don't know what to make up this. Sorry for rambling so much.

mia

Yall summed up the doc so well at the end it was done very messy, but thank you!!💚🩷

mia

( the doc was done messy )

1osaki

I agree with some of the points you raised about the documentary. I will say that since the studio notes came out before the documentary, you get to hear a bit of the insight they had with each song on the album, and how it came together, and who opposed what song, and how they felt about LA and the process, but I do think they could have definitely expanded more on the music process

Samuel lee

I feel like Jimin and V got "representation" in this documentary, but I thought Yoongi, J-hope, RM, JK, and Jin did not get good representation. I want to add that this was not made by HYBE and its usual documentary team, rather it was made by Netflix as a way to make many people subscribe to NETFLIX to watch their live show at Korea while holding their attention to watch their documentary as well. If you want a good documentary about any group from HYBE, make sure to look out for HYBE to certify it in the first few minutes of the documentary. Good documentaries made by HYBE of their group are all of the BTS documentaries except this one, Enhypen and TXT documentary, TXT and J-Hope' Lollapooloza documentary, CORTIS documentary, J-hope documentary on Amazon, all the Disney + documentaries of HYBE groups.

Skye

This documentary honestly had a lot of mixed reactions because of the comments during the process, but nicoles take was more so of a "Your previous songs had global appeal [popularity] despite not being typically relatable", her comments got pretty misconstrued throughout the docu and articles.

Skye

HEAVY on the translation, its frustrating having eng subs and eng trans holding almost completely different meanings. The translations and the article that was released prior to this docu made the release so messy because the articles covered the mistranslated portions, so there was tension about things before we even saw the entire picture. Lets please keep hybe in control of the documentaries lol

babystarcandy

I love esosas perspective and the way she approaches things. I was really hyped for this documentary but it ended up feeling kind of all over the place. It had the potential to be such a good album documentary, but it felt like so much was cut out, so nothing really got the depth it deserved.

ana

I do agree w u guys bc I loved seeing the bond of the boys ofc but I think it’s crazy that we didn’t get to see way more of recording process and the behind the scenes of them discussing + picking all 14 from the 100 songs they created

Hajar

I agree about the lack of conclusion, but i think this is due to timing, their conclusion was during their promotion period, as we see, everything was rushed. They really should have posted the documentary a bit later after their comeback. Personally i've seen this "conclusion " that we wanted about the process when they did their live after the realease of the album. They did talked about their struggles during the creation of their album too, as we see on the documenty, but also how they manage to find their way, even more details about their time together and the process. I recommend you to watch their first come back live after album release, you will have the answers to your questions, and what was lacking in the documentary.

Kona

The Director making the choice to only show the part of production for the album Jin was there for while I get the OT7 of it all but like as fans we understand Jin couldn’t be there for the beginning and if most of the album was made in the first 2 weeks how are we not showing the intial thoughts for where the members were thinking they should go🤷‍♂️

sofi

Please react to the studio notes!!

karla francis

Netflix has always had horrible translations. Even as someone that knows very few random Korean words, I can tell how bad they are

Claudia Uys

Hello girls! 👋 Thank you for being honest about your thoughts and I also have to agree with your thoughts on the documentary. As someone who watched the documentary and the live they did ( the studio notes ), for me personally I got a lot more information from the studio notes. They talked about each song individually and gave more information as to why certain songs were chosen in the end and what the members contributed to the songs ect ect. It could just be that the questions I personally had were answered... You guys might have different questions you want answers to so I am not sure 🤔 But anyway if you guys wanted to watch it I know they start talking about Body to Body around 24 min. I just wanted to say I enjoy your guys honest reactions and opinions and I love watching you guys ❤️ (Ps. English is not my native language so I am sorry if my grammar can be confusing 😅) My native language is Afrikaans, which has a few words that are very similar in Dutch so I can understand a few words here and there when you guys speak in Dutch 😆 That was just always funny to me Now I'm just rambling lol sorry 💜 I am excited to see what you guys watch next 😉

Riya@27

If you want to learn more about the album who opposed which song who worked on which song- The Studio Notes on YT is the best to watch and learn more.

andrea ᵕ̈

Oh, I get what you mean because I felt something similar. I'm still very hyped to watch more of their behind the scenes in this new era. From what I've seen in their recent schedules, there's always a cameraman with a big rig and an Alexa, so I'm happy because I know another documentary will be coming our way very soon. Buuuut!! I do agree it lacks a resolution. Even if it hadn't been found at that moment, as you said, perhaps after the album was released and everything, how did they feel? Even with that in mind, this may be one of my favorite documentaries of them mainly because I was so happy to watch them being so happy together after so much bullshit. (I hope you can dive into more of thie documentaries here on patreon!)

Tk

I agree on some of the points that were raised. but this documentary showed all 7, so it started with when Jin joined them after his tour, otherwise 80% of the documentary would be without jin, then ARMY will complain about it. And you have to think of what the intent of the documentary was. it was about the return from military and how they would return and some of the thought process that went into it. it's not so much about how they wrote all of the song and more about getting an insight to how they are, what they feel, how they cope and so on. it is not like Jimins, j-hopes or sugas documentary where the focus was how their album came to be. They went live when the album came out, its called "studio notes" and is over an hour long if i remember correctly and talked about each song, and who opposed to what and why and who did what and so on. So yeah, if you look at what they wanted with the documentary, they achieved it. they never said that the documentare was about how they made the songs and how and who chose witch song. you have to understand what knd of documentary it is before watching it, otherwise like so many do, they feel as if it lacked something.

Tk

i understand what you are saying, but this documentary was not about the album process and more about getting an insight to them and their return from military and into work, some of their thought proess, how they cope with the transition, work with each other and so on. But I agree with you on the translation part

Armystic

It’s super disappointing there’s so much left out about the music making process .. I mean the boys talked about it excitedly and a lot of times kept referencing like hooligan being jungkooks baby and how much special time and stuff he spent on it… sounding like that’d be something we’d see in the doc… and then we saw none of it… that’s just an example bc there’s just so much missing about the process and stuff that felt like such a let down when it comes to the making of this. I mean behind the scenes of the recording … there’s so little of the actual songs… it felt like a preview of a documentary of their return. I duno I just feel like this album and return deserved more

karla francis

To be fair, I viewed the docu as an update on what they were doing during the time they were kinda silent after discharge. I don’t think music production was the main reason for releasing it and I don’t think they’ll ever release a docu focusing on that cuz the fandom has proven time and time again that they aren’t mature enough for that. Their reaction to a small part of this is proof of that. It’s a lot of back and forth and disagreements

Stephanie

I actually think this documentary was good and it did what it supposed to do. It was a mini peak behind the scenes of what making an album intakes! A lot of conversations between the artists, input from the label, but ultimately the final product, the album, was all BTS decision. I think this was a great look behind the scenes

intro_sarah

I agree with your take here. The documentary was never marketed as an album making of. They hired an experienced documentary filmmaker to tell the story of their return, being back together and all of the complicated feelings and emotions that go into that. From that perspective, I thought it was very well done and I was really satisfied with it. I also appreciated what the director said in an interview about waiting until Jin joined them and how it would have felt wrong to tell this story with a piece missing.

Gianna Lau

don't know if it was just me but possibly because i got used to the past docs w/ the episodes being like 1hr long each i felt like compared to the prev doc this doc covered nothing and also edited so badly

anataetae

i totally agree! i just feel like since it’s made by netflix, it’s made by people who don’t know bts and don’t know how to portray their thoughts sincerely

Tk

The documentary was never marketed as how they made the album and how it came to be. but about their return from military into work it was supposed to focus on them not the work. A mini peak into them so the album making was not the main focus

Kona

I get that but i feel like even just hearing an intial discussion from the beginning about what they thought this album should be would’ve given a ton of context to the discussions had later with the staff idk i overall liked the doc im just a sucker for the production inside looks😂

Nae

I agree, this documentary was very different to their other ones, which I really liked. Like it was more movie like? or show like? if you get what I mean. There was a lot of context missing and did needed consistency

Tk

Me too I would have loved a documentary about the album making. I loved jimin, suga and jhopes documentaries. But that would also include some of the unreleased track or beats that they may use in future works which they can show yet

Valentina MF

I agree with most of the things you said, but also I want to take this with light way or not be involved, because I don't know what those conversations were about, because to me also didn't give me much more and I just loved the bond and catch up with them as people and not the brand itself. I don't want to get much conclusions about what Big Hit is doing and what BTS is in charge of, because, to me, after reading and listening to them BTS, I understand what they wanted to do with Arirang and I appreciate it so much. In my head doesn't make sense to think about the company forcing them into something, because I can hear, in other interviews, their creative process. I think it was all over the place and that's confusing.

Valentina MF

You need to watch more interviews, I really think it would give you the deep you want, and what I wanted, about the album. Studio Notes, Zane Lowe, Rolling Stone, tho Rolling Stone was not my fav questions, but you get more info.

Sokha637

The documentary are good because they BTS but you guys are really right the guys who make the documentary not really good to show the potential of every members ..even on his interview the ways he talk was not good I hear soo bad backlash then I didn’t want to watch

Sokha637

But I still love it and one of the main reasons is at list they start with Jin and they answer fews questions we was thinking about

Brittney Danielle

I honestly didn’t have any deep thoughts about it being a documentary or not when I watched it. I just had excitement to see them all together 😅 Maybe it would’ve been different if I waited to watch it but I legit watched it immediately. But I see where you are coming from lol.

Julianne

Yeah I agree with this. And I feel like for me the lack of definitive resolution or even linear narrative and process was a good analogy for how they feel about the comeback. The return hasn’t ended - it’s still continuing as they tour and continue ch 2. And they have no answers on how this will play out in terms of their direction and goals. Even as they sell tour successfully and we all love them and tell them that, I think they still feel that uncertainty bc as always they’re walking uncharted territory. Probably if the documentary approached this from the perspective of an outsider, they would produce a documentary with clear music making and album creation process bc from the outside, BTS does still move definitively with purpose and direction. I saw this documentary as a perspective that tries to externalize their internal feelings. And what they’re feeling is probably a lot of pressure and an overwhelming number of possibilities they have to own and decide. In that way the meandering narrative does make sense to me and reflects the quotes the members are giving in this documentary. But also this is just my interpretation of the director’s interpretation. Which is also just one person’s narrative of the story.

Julianne

To tack on, all the solo documentaries had clearer and more concise direction bc for each member, what they wanted and were getting out of their solo ventures were clear. Jhope was focusing on exploring different types and stages in performing, with a focus where his goals was exploring and proving a new style and hitting lollapalooza. RMs first album had a clear theme around musically documenting his 20s and exploring the many people and facets that influenced and shaped him then. Suga had a story to tell about closing his Agust-D journey emotionally ending in a solo tour. Jimin’s was specifically about producing his own first album end to end with a story he wanted to tell. JKs was a focus on singing and being the biggest pop star he could be, etc. I think from the vibes the members have been giving, they don’t have a clear story with a beginning and end for ch 2 and it’s a work in progress and they’re feeling it out as they go. All they can represent is themselves in the moment. And it does feel like the narrative and directing of the documentary matches. In theory, the director could have given more input and direction for the story he wanted to tell, but I actually like that he sort of kept his own narrative from the picture and seemed to focus on capturing their uncertainty stepping into what they’re feeling wanted see as a new role in their careers together.

Savage🩷🩷💋

Hello, I am savage, I'm also Nigerian and I see my Nigerian bestie here esosa. Hiiii beautiful queens. I don't usually comment that easily, but I agree alot with what Esosa said in the part where she said it felt like they were just making the album because there was a deadline to be met and not because they wanted to make it. It is very true because after they got back from the military of course the company doesn't give them time to rest at all because their main source of income and profit is back and then it was all rushed for BTS, they couldn't deliver very well, I'm am sure even they felt that way too. I can only say I'm happy they still found a way to drop the album and do well. And even at that, It was obvious from how jin was cause jin is usually energy, hapoy and all that. Hybe or big hit, anyone , it just made it all so stressful for them so yes, you're absolutely right. It wasn't really well put together, but at the end of the day, It's BTS and I will always love and support whatever it is they do❤️❤️.
