Source: SWFTD Ep 32 - Page 8I was rereading this part of the comic for the first time in almost 2 years and I got emotional because I found myself experiencing a lot of the same feelings that Grave went through in this moment. I never experienced anything as severe as war, but having an unstable childhood can really be damaging to a person's development. They become an adult and maybe if they're lucky, they eventually realize: "fuck, I have to fix myself...but how?"

There can be years, even decades between childhood and that realization, where you're just on autopilot, behaving in self-destructive ways and not even realizing it. And it doesn't have to be anything severe like drugs or alcoholism, it could be things like not sleeping properly, eating poorly, letting your body deteriorate, giving your time to people you know are bad for you, watching media that keeps you in a constant state of rage, fear, and panic, constantly delaying responsibility, and in my case, self-isolation.Sometimes I wonder if people think Ellie is my self-insert. I give her a lot of the clothes I would personally wear, and hobbies I would like, but she's more like my foil. I've met some people who've been burned a lot of times, and I've seen animals that have been severely wounded and betrayed by their care takers, yet they manage to still be so sweet. I don't feel bad for not being as strong as Ellie, some are just built differently, but people like her make me want to try harder. I really like those kind hearted individuals who manage to stay so sweet and help out others who are struggling even though internally, they've been hurt a lot. I've said that many times before, and years later I still feel this way.

There will be moments where I doubt my writing or I look back and cringe at things I wrote, but it's moments like this where I feel like I got it right because I was able to elicit the exact emotions from myself that I was trying to convey to others.Sorry for the extra rant, but I felt a bit proud and wanted to share. I promise I'll get my butt back to work soon!

I know that feeling first hand. It gets better over time but you have to put in the effort. If it doesn’t, always seek help and know you’re not alone🥰

Been there, I felt myself spiraling, thankfully I reached out to a rock solid friend that was able to help. Don’t be afraid to reach out, don’t feel like a burden, know your worth. Life can be hard and lonely, I had to find my connections. It’s why I love this story.

The first time I read that page I remember thinking how unusually self actualized it was. I was and am impressed. So many people spend their whole lives in that spiral. Owning the tendency and taking responsibility for whether or not we allow it to dictate who we are is 3/4 of the battle - and is a mark of maturity. What's that saying? Pain in life is inevitable but suffering is optional.

I remember stopping and sitting back, and all I could think was "That's exactly right! That describes it PERFECTLY!" That conversation was part of why I was determined to stick with the comic, because of the emotional maturity. The acknowledgement of past self-sabotage and the effort to grow past it, to heal, to be better. You have every right to be incredibly proud of this, and to own it and the emotional maturity it shows. Bravo. 👏👏👏

Thank you again for this (I sound like I am stuck on repeat, but it does bear repeating) It is inspiring to read your posts and all the comments, and it helps to know that others feel the same. This is an amazing community 🥰

This is why I love your comics so much, it's truly the whole package. Yeah I adore the art and it's so sexy sometimes I'm pretty sure steam comes out my ears haha but then there's times likes these where the truth hits right to my heart. I see a bit of myself in both Grave and Ellie and find strength in their story. To be hurt so bad and still choose to love... May we all have that strength ❤️ Thank you, Ajoji.

I screenshotted this page when I first read it. It touched my heart deeply. I grew up in a dysfunctional background , as an adult I have so much dealing to do on my own. It’s a consistent battle. Grave reminds me that I am not alone. Thank you for the amazing work !

Ooof this spoke to my soul so much - and then that last panel made me squeal!!!!

Dashea Brock

This panel spoke volumes loud and clear. Just knowing that so many people deal with trauma a million plus ways and when they finally have their done point it's a "... Damn.. Damn... DAMN!" moment. The shards in that mirror that have been held together by glue has broken and now you have to find a new mirror that reflects you. And doing it alone is as hectic as dealing with it alone.. my heart
