Grave gets catcalled and I'm rejoicing the fact that I've finally drawn bystanders interacting with Ellie and Grave in color. Multiple character scenes are kind of a nightmare to do because I don't want to be lazy or sloppy with characters, even if they aren't important to the main story. It's a lot of work to design new characters and think about how they would talk, dress, or carry themselves. I don't have to do all of that, but I think it helps with immersion. That's something I admire about older anime. Some of the classics like Cowboy Bebop put a lot of care into everything, even the bystanders that don't have a lot of screen time. They manage to flesh them out enough to get the viewer wondering what their story is.

Despite this page being more work than usual because of the extra characters and setting up the scene, it was a lot of fun. I wanted to go for an old school, Hong Kong crime film type vibe for the background, but I also wanted it to be a bit cyberpunkish. It's a stark contrast to Ellie's apartment, which is sweet and warm, while the outside is basically reminiscent of a seedy red light district.

I was reluctant to ask for help, but I'm glad I asked you all for your input on the direction of the story. While I am still going off a script, there's still a lot that needs to be fleshed out and I'm just trying stuff along the way to keep it both entertaining and fun for you, but also enjoyable for myself. So thank you if you're still here next month, but also thank you even if your support is temporary. I'm very fortunate to be able to spend my time tinkering with things like lighting a 3d set or designing characters and writing silly banter.
