sample of dialogue from one of the antagonists in SWFTD. A supporting character confronts someone from their past in an attempt to get closure. I'm not sure if this scene will make it into the final cut, but you're supposed to know he's horrible as soon as he's introduced.

i'm a fan of writing villains that are so morally gray the line between what makes a character evil and what makes a character good is almost indistinguishable. That makes it more terrifying when you're looking in the face of evil and don't 100% feel hatred for them because of the complexity of their character. It's painful when you see a side to them that makes you wonder how close they were to being a decent person.

giving layers to a monster feels wrong and it can come off as trying to create a sob story for them. no one wants to acknowledge that speck of humanity, but it's still going to be there. It's just more interesting for me when there's this duality. I think it helps with immersion.

I loved the thought behind it, in the end what we call villains is just a person reacting to pain in a negative way. Typically thats just the way they learned to cope with their own version of reality.

thanks~ i might do more mock up pages in the future because I have a lot of lines written out like this. I just have to make sure it's not a spoiler because I don't want to take away from your experience by revealing too much too soon.

it's complicated and it's delicate because we don't know what to do with these people that fall into this grey area. once they've broken people's trust, it's hard for that person to convince anyone that they'll never hurt anyone ever again.

Truth, yet the beauty of life is that we can forgive and allow for human growth of character to speak for itself. Only actions can tell if the person has truly changed, and it takes a ton of awareness to not get wrapped up again into bad behaviors
