Thank you very much for joining the Hardcore Literature Book Club!

Welcome to the Serious Readers Club.

We're going to have a great time, and I'm so happy to have you here.

The next post after this in the feed will be a Book Club Schedule, which will be constantly updated, and after that we're diving into the Anna Karenina Lectures and supplementary reading videos!

You'll also find information regarding our live book chats (for Shakespeare and Homer tiers) and bookish materials to download.

Make sure you get involved. If you're here, you're in the right place.

All best wishes,

Benjamin

Thanks for creating this! For the past year, I’ve been reading popular books that that felt so empty and made me feel like I was losing brain cells. Then I found your Top 50 Books of All Time video and hearing you talk about the classic books made me want to change my life goal to reading all the classics. I’m excited for this new part of my journey and I’m excited to watch your analysis videos! They are really helping me understand the material better and I am able to use my critical thinking skills I feel like haven’t used since University. Thanks again!

Hi Benjamin and fellow readers! So excited to be here and dive into the first book club read 'Anna Karenina' :)

Jeff Mullins

I just joined....today. For now, I'll start at the beginning!

Is there a link to the Proust level welcome? I was about to click on the video and decided I should download the Patreon app and now I'm completely lost

Well, Benjamin, After spending 2024 with you, I am diving into your previous lectures. Starting at the beginning with Anna Karenina, I am so excited! Thank you! Laura G

I’m temporally stimulated! I’m sucking the marrow. It’s 2025 as I write this. I’m reading in many ways. I’m reading along with a book club in real time. When I get ahead of my reading assignments, like I am right now with Madame Bovary, I frolic and go back. I’m picking and choosing my way through the back catalog. And I’m starting from the very beginning. It’s my own Hardcore Literature project, similar to the chronological Shakespeare project! But even more extensive. Tee hee! Deep reading takes time!

Hi Ben. I just joined in May 2025. Came to you because of Moby Dick so am now into those lectures and am 50% into MD. Loving it. And I’m trying to stay in real time and reading Brave New World. I am so glad I found you! You’re really helping me get through some health issues, which have led into deep thinking g about mortality and pain. Thank you.

Hi Ben, Deep reading is a familiar concept to me, as I studied philosophy during the years of undergraduate and master’s programs and then I went to law school, all after I landed in Canada. I am also a violinist and I enjoy mindful practice. I took an early retirement to pursue music before the Pandemic hit, but these days I am focusing more on deep reading for personal growing. As a person brought up during Mao’s Cultural Revolution, I don’t take the freedom of reading and expressions for granted . I find your teaching is absolutely brilliant and just what I need at this stage of my life. A huge Thank You 🙏

I too am undergoing a chronological reading project…of the HCLBC back catalogue. I wonder if I will ever catch up to the current read?! What a world you have created Ben.

Yixi

NicoleA, I felt the same way about catching up when I first joined the club. Months later I started to find the pace of reading that suits my current lifestyle. We can only get as much as our schedule allows. The key is to have fun while learning. I am sure you’ll find the best pace that suits your schedule.

Writing this in December of 2025! I thought I’d explore the back catalog by starting at the beginning!

I've been considering joining the Book Club via Patreon for a few years, but having already started Lonesome Dove, I figured 1 Jan 2026 would be the best time to actually pull the trigger (perfect phrase for a Western), and start deep reading.

Hi Ben! I'm from Argentina... I'm very excited about this project... Since my native language is Spanish, I think I'll read in both languages and then take your classes... I hope this plan will also improve my English. Thank you! Greetings to all! Happy 2026!
