I hope you've all been enjoying your reading recently!

Here's a quick bit of Book Club housekeeping.

1) Shakespeare Tier Live Reading Group

  • Date: 30th May 4:30 GMT
  • RSVP: Shakespeare and Homer Patrons, please message me at your leisure. If you cannot make this time, please let me know and we'll try to remedy that.
  • Agenda: Let's talk Crime and Punishment and start comparing Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. Let's also expand outwards and start pulling some short stories and poetry into the discussion.
  • Assignments: Your optional "extra-credit" reading assignment is to read a short story or poem that you might want to persuade the group to read. This can be one of the stories or poems we've looked at already (Browning, Dickinson, Turgenev), or a completely new author that you've discovered on your own.
  • Bring: A delicious drink and your favourite line from C&P.

Also, a note to Homer Patreons: I'll be reaching out to you very shortly so we can schedule our one-on-one book chat.

2) Content coming out soon

Our first Chekhov Short Story Appreciation Masterclass is coming out over the next few days. We're starting with a good one: "The Lady with the Dog".

We also have a Proust "taste-test" compressing, in which I pit the Lydia Davis translation against the famous Moncrieff-Kilmartin translation. I'll let you decide which one appeals to your aesthetic tastes more.

Of course, we have lectures on Part Six and the Epilogue of Crime and Punishment on their way. Plus journalling videos, and the Austen and Proust videos will be threaded alongside each other (but it's not necessary to read Austen to enjoy Proust).

Merch note: We now have Crime and Punishment themed leggings, hoodies, t-shirts, socks, and Hardcore Literature mugs and tote bags available here.

3) Our first watch-party

If you would be keen to do a watch-party, please let me know!

I propose our first watch-party to be of episode 1 of Anna Karenina Russian TV series on Amazon Prime.

The first episode is ~45 minutes and we'll have a live chat feature and we can pause it and break certain things down. Let's see how faithful it is to the book.

4) Thank you and welcome to new patrons!

You're warmly welcome and I am so happy and grateful to have you here. Enjoy the bookish content, lectures, audios, videos, and discussions. I look forward to hearing any insights you might have on any of the Great Books.

And that's all, folks!

Happy reading!

I like to do the watch -party . Is this for only the Shakespeare and Homer groups or for all groups?
