Dear Book Club Readers ---

I hope your reading is treating you well!

Here's a little bit of Book Club housekeeping/admin for the month.

1) A very warm HLBC welcome to new patrons

Welcome aboard, and thank you for joining the club!

Do let us know which book(s) you're enjoying at the moment and what life is looking like for you.

2) Next year's book club schedule revealed this week

I know many of you are getting excited for all the great books you'll be reading in the new year, so here's a special date for your diary:

  • 19th November (this Friday)

We'll have a video revealing the whole reading schedule for the new year - it's exciting stuff!

3) Coffee with Hardcore Literature

Do you have any questions about reading the Great Books? Or, indeed, anything else?

If so, please do let me know either here or PM me and I would love to sit down with a coffee and record my answers.

4) Upcoming content

We've got some great content coming out. The next big Les Misérables lecture is out this week. We have videos preparing us for Dickens' Great Expectations, the latest 'The Turn of the Screw' discussion, a spin-off series examining the artwork in Proust's Search, videos on Middlemarch, and much more. What a great season for reading!

5) Thank you for your great comments

I love reading through your insightful responses to these great works. I'm making my way through them, and have some video responses to many of them.

Thank you for making this such a great community to discuss great literature deeply. I'm so grateful for you all.

And that's all for now, folks!

Happy reading!

hello all - I am new to the community and absolutely love the chance to be here. I just finished the GREAT Brothers Karamazov and did the study with Ben which I found just superb and so enlightening. Then, I took on the challenge of reading Middlemarch which took about 6 weeks to work through (I also took on Ben's recommended Literary Analysis of the Bible which I am still working on and getting close to the finish line). All said, I absolutely love Ben's work and your comments inspire me to keep reading. I have been a voracious reader and now really centering on the classics. Middlemarch was everything and more ...just loved it.

Beginning my read of War and Peace as the dream of Russian empire plays out in Ukraine. I expect interplay between the history, the story and current events. Perhaps a reason for beginning 2023 with this classic.
