Dear Book Club Readers ---

I hope your reading is treating you well!

Here's a little bit of Book Club housekeeping/admin for the month.

1) A very warm HLBC welcome to new patrons

Welcome aboard, and thank you for joining the club!

Do let us know which book(s) you're enjoying at the moment and what life is looking like for you.

2) Coffee with Hardcore Literature

Do you have any questions about reading the Great Books? Or, indeed, anything else?

If so, please do let me know either here or PM me and I would love to sit down with a coffee and record my answers.

Here are the last three episodes of our Q&A Show:

3) Shakespeare's Masterpieces & Upcoming Content

Your response to Shakespeare has been wonderful so far. We've started the year strong with King Lear, and now we're deep-reading Hamlet before moving onto Macbeth.

As many of you have noticed the parallels between Lear and Wuthering Heights, I can't wait for you to take your appreciation and knowledge of Shakespeare to our next Big Read on the horizon - Herman Melville's Moby Dick.

We have our next Wuthering Heights lecture coming out soon, a preparation guide for Moby Dick, more Proust videos, a new book battle comparing all of the authors on the schedule, poetry and essay deep-dives, and much more.

4) Thank you for your great comments

I love reading through your insightful responses to these great works. I'm making my way through them with a cup of tea right now.

Thank you for making this such a great community to discuss great literature deeply. I'm so grateful for you all.

And that's all for now, folks!

Happy reading!

I found HLBC by accident a few weeks ago and joined right away (January 2022). I am so thankful I did. It's literally been the best part of my life since. Yes, I know that makes me a big dork. Benjamin: You are making a huge difference in the world. I consider myself an educated person but I didn't read these books in school. You're making them accessible to me now. A few questions: (1) Is there a video or other resource new people like me should watch to get up to speed on how to get the most out of HLBC? I started with Persuasion. Now, I am reading Anna Karenina (which is awesome, by the way), but I feel like I'm missing out on the community aspect. But I'm hesitant to jump ahead because I see how Persuasion informed Tolstoy. Any thoughts or suggestions? Maybe I should read one book from last year's list and one from this year's list? (2) Is there a post or centralized place where we can suggest books? I'm sure you get the same book suggestions all the time. For me, I'd love to hear you talk about The Red and the Black and The Betrothed. Thanks!

Thank you for these questions, Robert, and your kind words! I really appreciate them :) I saw your question whilst I was filming, so I managed to get my answers in for you! The Q&A should be out very shortly!

Same here, Robert! I was schmoozing YouTube and this lovely face caught my attention. I decided to see what he was selling! Lol He was selling Great Literature! And guess what? I was buying! I bought in the next day! Now, If I could just get the housekeeping down I’d be in 7th heaven!
