Thank you all for your wonderful questions. They have, once again, resulted in a great bookish conversation for this episode of our Q&A Show.

Topics of discussion include: writers being deliberately obscure, the difference between artists and critics, how to tell if you're a writer, James Joyce's Ulysses, recommendations for American Literature, and much more.

As this was a long show, we'll be answering the great questions we didn't get to fully in the next Q&A so as to do them justice.

What a fantastic triptik through American Literature! Thank you. My master's is in 20th century American Literature, women's fiction especially, and I still have a million holes. Your (our:) section here on great American writers whet my whistle. Really looking forward to Pynchon and Ellison this year (2023). Ellison is a reread but Pynchon is a first read for me. Thank you and onward!

Hi Ben ! When deciding where to start catching up on videos after vacation I skipped straight ahead to your explanation of video/lecture prep. I’m amazed, but definitely not surprised at the amount of effort and work you put into your lectures. Your effort is obvious! I had been wondering how much of the content is planned versus ‘riffing’. I think my favorite aspect of your videos is that you clearly prepare & have done your ‘homework’ but you can riff and lecture freestyle and go off on tangents with such detail and enthusiasm which gives the feeling of a book chat more than a prepared lesson. Huge thanks and appreciation for these series
