Hello book friends. I’m a new member. I live in Utah, USA. I feel like I’ve hit hit literary jackpot with this Hardcore Literature group. Where to begin?? I joined thinking I’d do the Proust read along. I need friends for that endeavor. This month I read Carrie by Stephen King- I like to read him in October and/or Ray Bradbury who writes in a falling atmospheric kind of way. I also just finished Jesus’ Son by Denis Johnson and My Struggle by Knausgaard . I did an audio reading of This is How You Lose Her and The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I also laughed out loud with David Sedaris reading Me Talk Pretty One Day in audio. I’m about ready to start The Recognitions. I noticed a few people mentioned that one. Any suggestions for a successful experience? I’m also jumping into The Passion According to G. H. by Clarice Lispector. It’s been a great month so far. So happy to join this group and am looking forward to learning more about what everyone is reading.

Hello Micol! Welcome to the club :) It's so wonderful to have you here reading with us over in beautiful Utah. I'm so happy that you're joining us in reading Proust. It sounds like you're reading some great stuff. I love a bit of Stephen King myself around this time of year. I recently reread my old favourite, 'Misery'. Ray Bradbury's always wonderful, and so is Denis Johnson! I adore his short fiction ('Emergency' has a real dark sense of humour). I'd love to hear what readers recommend when it comes to The Recognitions too, as I'm embarking on a read myself :)

Misery might be my favorite King, at least from what I’ve read so far. I also love The Shining, however, I’m partial to the movie on that one for the sake of nostalgia. I’m looking forward to reading more Johnson- dark humor is my kind of thing. Have you read Dandelion Wine by Bradbury? Can you help me navigate through all of the information in the feed to access the Proust info without having to do scrolling to find it? Is that even possible? I’m obviously still trying to figure out how to move around in the app. I’m new to this sort of thing and will fully admit that I am technologically impaired ☺️

Greetings from south of San Francisco Bay. The suggestions and guidance have been super helpful. Reading two or more books at a time works fine. I recently finished Don Quixote and today finished Moby Dick. Dracula is underway as is Persuasion. This is a great adventure exploring great literature. With the Book Club, I get a lot more out of the reading. The lectures, suggestions, and insights add a great deal of value.
