There is a book series written about the Scholomance. It is written by Naomi Novak. I haven’t read it, so I can’t say if it is a good representation of the legend, but it is a best seller. I believe there are 3 books. The first looks like it is A Deadly Education.

Great lecture Ben. The idea of the scapegoat really got me thinking, and depressed me too. Why do humans feel the need to blame an entity, to manipulate a fear for evil purposes? I got to thinking of all the scapegoats throughout history and the senseless cruelty that resulted from.. what exactly? The desire to control society,to keep people in line so you speak? Witches were scapegoats: can’t have knowledgeable women can we? The Catholics, Muslims, Protestants, Jews etc : every religion has been the scapegoat and a useful tool to sow hatred and fear amongst the other side. Our divisive politics use this manipulation brilliantly. Science, knowledge and those who have pushed our knowledge to expand our visions, probably the biggest scapegoats in modern history. It seems that fear has been used as the most powerful weapon , a very handy tool for those who would have evil motives. As usual, your wonderful lectures get me thinking on completely different tangents than what I expected. Circling back to the book, I agree with other posts that it is so easy to pity poor Frankenstein but I never pity Dracula for a second. Im not sure if this is a testament to the skill of the authors, but I think not. Stoker does not seem to ever try or want to elicit our sympathy whereas Shelly has crafted the whole book on moving us to pity the monster.
