Dear Book Club Readers —

Today I would love to discuss the first phase of our journey through the works of  Shakespeare with you.

It would be wonderful to take a vote and ask you:

What is your favourite Shakespeare work so far?

In the video above, I’m running through my own personal reverse ranking of the eleven works we’ve read together. And I would love to know your personal ranking too.

Please do feel free to enjoy the discussion regardless of where you are in your Shakespeare reading. Let us know how you're finding the journey!

Phase 1 done! Some pleasant surprises, a few clunkers (though not as many as I feared), and a deeper appreciation for both Will's talent and the comforting truth that even geniuses have to climb a learning curve. All that said, I mostly feel the excitement of someone who's gotten the required "101" course out of the way and is about to dive into the good stuff. I read Romeo and Juliet and Julius Caesar in school, and have seen live performances of a few of the upcoming comedies, so I'm excited about revisiting more things I'm familiar with. And last but not least, I'm looking forward to catching up to real time. :-) My rankings: Richard III: B+ Lucrece: B Henry VI: B- (Pt1 C-, Pt2 B, Pt3 B+) Taming of the Shrew: C Titus Andronicus: C Venus & Adonis C- Two Gentlemen of Verona: C- Comedy of Errors: D King John D-

I'm quite late to this but I think you'll be amused by my rankings so far 11. The Two Gentlemen of Verona- I honestly don't even remember this one 10. The Taming of the Shrew- good enough, just didn't do much for me 9. Lucrece- I think another read will bump this one up 8. Venus and Adonis- enjoyed this one and listened to a reading of it. 7. Henry VI pt 1- got through it. Felt like a long prologue 6. King John- the Bastard(obviously) and some of the monologues were enjoyable 5. Henry VI pt 2- okay now we're getting somewhere 4. Henry VI pt 3- ahhh so this is the history that inspired Game of Thrones 3. Richard III- great play that I enjoyed and you can definitely see the greatness to come Here's where we have to keep in mind it's personal favorites 2.The Comedy of Errors- I was unsure heading into Shakespeare having only been forced to read a couple plays in school and this first play we covered I greatly enjoyed and actually laughed at and it made me think maybe this won't be so hard after all 1. Titus Andronicus- now I don't think this will stay at number one for long and it's a hot take, but this play was so absurd and crazy I couldn't stop reading it. I've thought on this and realized that so far I have at least enjoyed my time with all the plays but these few leading ones(for me) are play I actually can't wait to read again. I do think TA is a parody of sorts or an absurdity for absurdities sake play and that's why I love it. It's nutty and so far my favorite. Spoiler alert Richard II has already booted this one from first place so fret not
