Dear Book Club Readers ---

I recently sat down with a coffee to answer a sprawling variety of questions about reading great literature in celebration of a significant milestone over on the YouTube channel.

We're talking about how to read in our digital world, practicalities of deep reading, returning to marginalia, my research process, syllabuses for children, and so much more. We're also discussing cherished writers like William Shakespeare, George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, James Joyce, David Foster Wallace, and many more.

I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for you. Thank you so much for keeping these great books alive with me. I appreciate how much love you have for literature. And it warms my heart to see how fully you are bringing yourselves to these life-changing works.

A quick note on our next masterpiece. As we've recently wrapped up Charlotte Brontë's incredible Jane Eyre, our very next video will be our introductory 'how to read' lecture for Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow. So make sure you have secured your personal copy of this postmodern masterpiece. I will be working from this edition from Vintage paperback.

I hope you enjoy the bookish discussion, and please feel free to jump to any topic that you're most interested in via the timestamps below.

I hear this is the thread to post our 2024 guesses? Hardy, Tess of the D'Urbervilles Chaucer, The Canterbury Tales Dante, Inferno Beowulf Wallace, Infinite Jest something by Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms? Aristotle, Poetics or Ethics I could guess more but I feel the force is strong with these ones. :)
