Fake Arcade Game: VOIDBURST DELUXE! (Patreon)

Oh, hello there!

We're hard at work on the Monday trailer, but I took some time over the past couple of weekends to mock up this fake game (and accompanying news footage).I've always been a fan of the early 90s-era of 3D polygon arcade titles like Virtua Racing, Starblade, Steel Talons etc, so I opened up Cinema 4D and tried my hand at modelling some (hopefully) authentic-looking very low-poly models. In the process I learned how to make things explode and how to do laser beams in 3D!

The good guys:

The bad guys:

The enemy fortress:

It's all very low detail (my PC still had a terrible time rendering it all. There's a lot of ships and beams on-screen at once) as you can see, but the games I was copying the look of were specifically these two:https://youtu.be/ssPfEPaTaGo?t=69https://youtu.be/AEeLaDga56A?t=89

Setting it in the middle of a big space battle was pretty much ripped off from my favourite stage of the Mega-CD game Silpheed: https://youtu.be/ZTYZL36fyHs?t=1623

Having to penetrate an enemy frotress at the end of the level is taken straight from Galaxy Force: https://youtu.be/1I2r1VRwu0Y?t=602

I've attached a .3ds file of all the ships at the bottom of this post. Open it in your 3D program of choice and feel free to use them. Or if you're a 3D modeller, do an ultra detailed redesign if you like.

Super-detailed pilot:

The early 90s were an insane time in the arcades. I kind of wanted to do my own little tribute to the era when we all went absolutely nuts over polygons!

The music is by a band called Master Boot Record: https://www.youtube.com/@MasterBootRecordThey played in my city just a couple of weeks ago. They're really quite good and have actual Amiga computers on stage playing games whilst they play the instruments. Give them a listen!
