What a crazy episode! I did not see that twist coming. I knew Veronica was up to something, I just couldn't figure out what it was. I also loved seeing Logan and Eli actually work together! But I am wondering with that ending if we're going to see Duncan again? I'm not sure because if he comes back, he'll be in trouble. Guess I'll just wait and see!

I agree with you. Proving that Meg's parents are abusive would have been a much better solution than kidnapping the baby. Not only is it legal, but it prevents them from abusing Grace as well. Plus, Veronica wouldn't have to lie to her dad because he would definitely be on board with it. Duncan was able to cross the border because he was in Lamb's trunk when he drove over. That's why the trunk swung open at the end. Also, the fortune cookie note that Veronica put up was the note that Duncan gave to Veronica that prompted her to get back together with him.

Abuse, particularly mental abuse is hard to prove legally. Even a mediocre lawyer can make a simple argument against the charge of "your claim is that they made their daughter write in a journal". Lamb didn't have enough evidence to even arrest them. The only thing he could do is keep an eye on them and hope he found something else. But the argument about the journals from the lawyer would not even be necessary. Because they don't have the journals, and there is nowhere near enough evidence to even get a warrant to obtain them. Definitely not enough to issue a warrant for their arrest even. A person said you abused your kids is not enough get a search warrant or an arrest warrant. Meanwhile kidnapping is a federal crime which would put Duncan in prison. Best legal option is that it's reported to child protective services to check up on, which is a long process, during which time they will have custody and Duncan is in prison. And even if they somehow were caught up to and charged with abuse, Duncan doesn't get let out of prison for federal kidnapping charges because of it. And they would have already sent the baby to the ultra religious adoption agency. So the legal options were not good and only the unlegal options were left as the best.

Duncan got across the border hidden in Lamb's trunk. The border patrol was searching every single vehicle for him, but they of course waved Lamb's police car through without searching it. Duncan got out when Lamb stopped at that restaurant/bar. When Lamb went over the tracks that's why the trunk popped open and Lamb saw the food and water that had been stashed there and the zip tie that allowed Duncan to open the trunk from the inside.

I actually still like the FBI agents even thought they were the adversaries. Probably mostly because I can't dislike Xena.

I'm by no means an expert (so please feel free to correct me), but they should be able to make a good faith report and have someone from CPS examine Grace to determine if there is abuse going on (which there clearly is). You only need reasonable suspicion to do that, but they also have the copy of the journals and the stuff on Meg's laptop that said she knew someone was being abused. They could also get Lizzie to help them get more evidence if they needed it.

I covered the fact that CPS would be the best case legal action. But that's a long investigation. Unless there's clear physical abuse, there is not going to be a visit and then arrest. Mental abuse is hard to prove. Most can clearly call that mental abuse. To be able to make a legally arrestable charge though....... "that child was physically abused, you can see the marks from where he was beaten with a belt" "That child was mentally abused, they made them write line after line in a journal". Well there's no clear law against that. Again they don't have the journals as evidence collected from the house for a chain of evidence, and Megs journal not identifying who was abused would not be sufficient to get a warrant. In order for Lizzie to give the police more evidence, she would need to report abuse to the police to begin with. And again most cases of mental abuse do not have a clearly defined law against them to even be able to open a case on and come off as "my parents are mean to me". You will see very few cases of arrests for mental abuse unless it is accompanied with physical abuse. And trying to bring charges to get custody of the baby gets court attorneys question of "If there was this abuse, why did you not try to press charges Until they were trying to keep you from getting custody, and let's talk about your mental issues and violence".

Oh, that’s really sad that it’s so hard to prove a mental abuse claim even when there is clearly signs of abuse. My thought process was to have Lizzie get one of the journals and testify that she witnessed Grace being abused so that a professional could talk with Grace to confirm the abuse, but I guess you’re saying that would take too long.
