Ok here we go SEASON 5, its flying by! For this season I will be continuing with watching the season finales in ADDITION to the four episodes that win these polls! I also included 2 parters as one-so technically we could get 7 episodes this season!

Remember this is Poll 1 of 2-The top 4 of each poll will go to a final season 5 poll in 2 days!

Honestly, I think Unification should be automatic along with the season finale. I think the only reason it wasn’t a season finale/premiere was due to cross promotion with Star Trek VI which was released shortly after.

As season 5 of TNG is arguably the best season of Star Trek ever, of all Star Trek series and seasons (not just TNG), I respectfully request you increase your reactions to a minimum of 6 but more like 8 episodes. Even at 8 that’s still less than 1/3 of this season.

‘The Inner Light’ is one of only two Star Trek episodes (of all almost 60 years of Star Trek) to win the coveted Nebula Award for Best Science Fiction, it is a must see. It’s also Patrick Stewart’s favorite episode. Bring tissues.

The thing about the season finale's was in the previous two seasons, they likely would have been voted in, or would have been close to being voted in. I dont think the season finale would be really even in the running for being chosen in season 5.

Agree that I Borg can be skipped, though Cassie might like I Borg better than Darmok. I think she would like Ensign Ro, which is also a good background episode.

Yeah I think for ultra hardcore Star Trek nerds (which Cassi is NOT, at least not yet) Darmok is cool. But for a Cassie level episode, something like I Borg is better.

Glad to see that Ensign Ro will likely make the cut in this poll. A good background episode that Cassie would find more entertaining than Darmok. Unification I/II is more analogous to her previous autowatches. Skip the S5 finale and instead do Unification I/II as the autowatch. The S5 finale is a good episode but could be skipped b/c likely would not make the S5 final four anyway, and there is no way to include in the S5 poll 2 of 2 (already done). However, I don't have strong feelings and am fine with the S5 finale being the autowatch.

I hope it’s not Shaka, When the Walls Fell for Darmok as it’s one of my favourites. The game and Disaster are very good as well, I’d suggest Cassie watchers Disaster even if it doesn’t win as I really think she will enjoy the Picard storyline

People, there are some things to bear in mind: This Is Cassie's Channel. She will miss good episodes if she watches 6, 8, or even 10 episodes a season. Vote for your favorites and remember that the world isn't going to explode from injustice if your episode doesn't win a reaction poll. Also, if you don't like Star Trek, the world isn't going to explode from injustice if Cassie watches and enjoys a show that you don't. You are free to watch the non-Trek reactions, but I would just invite you to watch for yourself to see if this show is worth getting so mad about. In related news, my picks: Darmok (More great Picard performances), Ensign Ro (Introduces a new character and a new race that may show up later), Disaster (A wildcard pick but a good all crew episode), and Unification (Sorry, Cassie, you'll be watching 7 episodes but it will be worth it!) Engage!

This is the strongest of all the seasons, with no less than 12 outstanding episodes. So here is my pitch, if you are reading this wondering what to vote for, or maybe have already voted. Darmok Unification (strong #5) Disaster (my personal choice over Uni) Cause and Effect The Inner Light Darmok, and The Inner Light - are all time great ST episodes. Cause and Effect - one of the 4 episodes with guest appearances that Cassie will find fun this season, and a great episode Disaster - A fantastic cast episode, that gives every character a role, and mixes up the classic character pairings. After 5:01 and Cassie wanting more of O'Brien, this is a perfect fit. Unification - Not my first choice, but I understand fully why it is being voted for and would be by 5th Strong other contenders: Ensign Ro The Game - shocked at how poorly this is doing, it is a Fantastic episode that Cassie will LOVE!!! and has one of those great guest appearances The First Duty The Next Phase Ethics Please do not vote for I,Borg. It is not a strong episode, one of the worst of the season. There are better episodes, and better episodes to react to.

Ugh. So painful. Not selecting many of these episodes is like abandoning children on the side of the road. Darmok and Inner Light are so popular they are part of pop culture (Not to mention that Inner Light is one of the GOATs of ST:TNG); Ensign Ro introduces a new key character; Disaster is considered one of the best TNG episodes; Unification is a must for Cassie for obvious reasons; Ethics and Outcast is Star Trek doing what Star Trek does best; Cause and Effect (Time-bendy, need I say more); I, Borg—a necessity for the Season 6 cliffhanger and an all around great episode; The next phase—another great episode Cassie would love; and, did I mention Inner Light? Well that one is mentioning multiple times. A limit of four.... ah... so many abandoned, unloved, orphans.

Whatever episodes don't make the cut, just encourage her to watch them on her own time. This season's vote is going to be impossible. Just like season 6 is going to be impossible. We all have our favorites. There will be episodes that people don't vote for that Cassie will absolutely enjoy if she sees on her own. So we should all just vote for our favorites and not worry about the outcome.

The Season 5 final is great. What is skippable is the Season 6 Final, an utter disaster.

Now that we're into the last three seasons where there is a mid-season two-parter, it would be nice to make those a default watch. Unification and Chain of Command, in particular, are integral to the overall TNG lore.

Ensign Ro (a near must imo) is an episode that Cassie would appreciate/like. The Game -- Cassie might like The Game. Has the first televised kiss in the career of that one actress. Likely will not be picked. Will lose to Disaster for 4th place in this S5 poll 1 of 2. Disaster -- a good episode. I am not big on the kids but Cassie would like that. Unification I/II is overrated in portions imo and too political, but is a must for Cassie at least because of the guest appearance. Unification will be picked and should be picked. Plus, we get two episodes for one. Darmok -- I think there are at least ten episodes in S5 that Cassie would like better than Darmok. Nevertheless, likely that Darmok will be picked. I think that Darmok is awkward much of the episode (kind of a point of the episode) but the resolution makes up for it. I like Darmok more each time I watch it.

Toughest polls yet! I agree with the opinion that Darmok is overrated, but it has become an iconic piece of pop culture (kind of like The Trouble with Tribbles in TOS) so I don’t mind if it makes the cut.

Honestly, it looks like the poll is going that way, but Unification and Darmok are basically required. Lots of good choices, but Unification, just because its deep Star Trek lore, and Darmok to me is the peak of what Star Trek can be. (and anybody who doesn't enjoy Picard's Gilgamesh thing needs to have their heart checked, because its not beating)

Yep. Unification is a no-brainer pick. But as the saying goes, a story is only as strong as it’s villain. And unfortunately, the villain in that episode is very weak indeed.

Polls have got it right so far IMO, i was worried the more emotionally resonant episodes would get outvoted by the higher Sci-fi stuff, but it hasn't really gone that way.

Unification 1&2 - for obvious reasons. Ensign Ro - just because Ro Laren is pretty awesome and for her relationship with Picard Disaster - underdog but is just an entertaining ensemble episode with parts Cassie would probably appreciate. (And has Ro in it) The Game - not going to win but again a fun episode. I think S4 was the peak but what I love about S5 is the breadth of solid (mostly) standalone sci-fi character stories. I’m relieved the Klingon arc is pretty much done in TNG (S6 has a two parter that can be skipped IMO)

I've never understood the appeal of Darmok. I won't spoil the gimmick, because it appears the episode will win the poll... but the idea of an advanced alien spacefaring civilization rivaling the power of the Federation and its flagship, handicapped in that way, is RIDICULOUS. I voted for "Unification" and "Disaster". "Unification" is obvious for the reason we all know, and it's an important follow-up to "Redemption". I believe Cassie would enjoy "Disaster" because she asked how O'Brien's marriage to Keiko was going in the "Redemption" video. She'd appreciate the melodrama in 10 Forward, especially Keiko's interaction with Worf. The episode also featured Troi stepping up to command and Picard leading some children. I know it won't win the poll but I hope Cassie watches it on her own.

Yeah this season had some great episodes that spotlight the entire cast. It does seem Darmok and The Inner Light (two Picard centric episodes) will win. I liked Darmok and at the time it came out it felt like something we hadn’t seen before - but agree in retrospect there are more entertaining episodes this season.

S5 episodes ranked in order that I believe Cassie would find most entertaining (a top 14 of the 26). (Not based on best or most important/relevant or my favorites) 1. Ensign Ro 2. Conundrum 3. Inner Light (mixed but she should like it) 4. Unification I/II (would be ranked lower if not for the guest appearance) 5. The First Duty 6. The Outcast 7. The Perfect Mate 8. The Game 9. Disaster 10. I Borg 11. The Next Phase 12. Cause and Effect 13. Power Play 14. Darmok I believe there are many episodes in S5 that Cassie would like. The above ranking is just a guess.

I agree about Disaster. She will absolutely enjoy it for several reasons. But I don't believe it's going to make the final four so we're just going to have to encourage her to watch it on her own. Because she needs to see it, I believe.

This wasn't as hard as I feared it might be. I think Darmok and Unification I/II will probably get in, which they should. Disaster is my guilty pleasure episode of S5. Also pulling for Cause and Effect. I know not all will make the final cut because there are two on the other poll that are strong, especially Inner Light (which will definitely get in).

I was really hoping for Disaster but comparing the numbers on the other poll it won't be top 4. I think Cassie would enjoy it plus it has more of the O'Brien marriage. I hope she finds the time to watch it on her own!

"Darmok" probably will be chosen as one S5's 4 episodes unfortunately; but I don't believe it'll be one of Cassie's favourites. Trekkies here are choosing their favourite episodes, not episodes tailored for Cassie. "Darmok" has many similarities to "Skin of Evil" and Cassie didn't enjoy that one. I've never understood "Darmok"'s popularity. It is a ponderous episode with one great "aha" moment followed by an anti-climactic ending. It should've been Picard's "Arena" battle but it was a big fat NOTHING instead! Picard's "Die Hard" episode mostly made up for the "Darmok" disappointment... but based on Patreon members' poll choices, I wouldn't count on that episode winning the Season 6 poll, which is a shame because Cassie would enjoy "Starship Mine".

Joining thread to comment that there's a bunch of episodes I feel like got passed over for some absolute favorites, though I'd agree many people voting are voting for *their* favorite episodes and not ones they'd think Cassie would enjoy as primary focus. I really do hope she gives a lot of the other episodes a watch at some point (for the channel or otherwise). That being said I've been ready to vote for Darmok before the poll was even posted, for reasons I won't spoil here, please don't hate me :(

Rod, agree. I think she would also like the kids in Disaster. Darmok and Inner Light will be in the S5 final 4. Thus, 2 of the 4 episodes for S5 will be Picard centric episodes in which the remaining crew for the most part is ignored. Not good for familiarizing Cassie with the crew.

I'm with David, I have no idea why you guys think Cassie wouldn't like Darmok. It's an engaging and unique premise and a consistent viewer favorite (and a favorite of Sir PatStew himself), and as relevant amid today's meme culture as it has ever been. And certainly comparing it to the abominable Skin of Evil is slanderous. The two are nothing alike. It's Unification that's overrated. Sputtering, over-plotted waste of a guest star (two guest stars actually, as it also the point where the show admits that, after revealing the very interesting existence of Sela, it can think of nothing interesting to do with her). But if ya'll are gonna force that one on me I want Darmok in return. :P

Robin -- I love Darmok but it is awkward much of the episode (that's kind of the point of the episode). Darmok is a fan favorite but I don't think of Cassie as the typical TNG viewer. Are there any episodes on my list of 14 above that you think Cassie would find more entertaining than Darmok? She likes a love story/intimacy, relationships, character development, background, banter, fun stuff, social issues, family, children, humor, investigative, loyalty, leadership, support, a reasonable thriller. I don't think Cassie will hate Darmok. She may not be a hardcore linguist but surely she will find the episode somewhat interesting and enjoyably appreciate the resolution (as most of us do). Darmok is not at the bottom of S5 in terms of Cassie entertainment. Instead, as indicated by my ranking, Darmok is top half of S5 episodes as most entertaining for Cassie. She does like a puzzle being solved. Unification is overrated in parts and too dry political.

Disaster is the episode she needs to watch. It has character development for Troi. Cute interaction with Picard and kids. I love Darmok but it’s the same as Inner Light to me and if I had to choose between the two I’d chose Inner Light.

I could skip Birthright and Gambit personally. Then again S7 doesn’t have many must watch episodes (besides Parallels) so Gambit might make the cut.

Although Darmok is a great episode, I think I,Borg is more important for the significance to future episodes. Cause and effect is great, but The First Duty also has some great dialogue from Picard (actually more of his finest philosophical lines!) and has a bit of significance to future episodes as well.

I didn't get how good an actor Michelle Forbes was back when she was Ensign Ro. Then I saw her in other stuff. She is really good. I'm not a giant fan of the episode or her charcter arc, but she's really good in the episode.

Pardon my ignorance as someone who has not seen a ton of Star Trek.. but I thought the general appeal of Darmok is that it's a standalone story that highlights what Star Trek is about without you needing a serial killer whiteboard and red string to figure out what's what..

@Gunnar Rea: No, I don’t believe the appeal of “Darmok” is that it’s a standalone story. Generally, the votes have been to lay the foundation for TNG’s movies and most important episodes, like “Best of Both Worlds”. Only a few standalone stories have won the polls, like “Data’s Day” in S4. I honestly don’t know why so many people are voting for “Darmok” — it’s certainly better than most S1 and S2 episodes, but it’s mediocre by S4-6 TNG standards. I don’t get it.

The thing that pushed me over the edge in joining the Patreon was that I wanted the chance to vote for Darmok in Season 5 when it came up. I would be absolutely ecstatic if you reacted to that episode. It means a lot to my family, we cannot watch it without shedding tears.

Not sure he was. The only link I know to George Wendt in Star Trek is the character "Morn" . His name was intentionally an anagram of "Norm" as a tribute to "Cheers" . Some rumours started that it was actually George Wendt who played Morn but that was untrue. I could be wrong but I don't see George Wendt listed as being in the cast of Violations

When I was a kid and this episode came out my older brothers kept saying the guy was Norm 🤣 Because he totally looks like George Wendt 😀 I think i figured it out in the early 2000s but obviously forgot again🤣 Anyhow I wish Cass would see the episode, but odds are she never will.
