Happy Hanukkah

Due to Fred Kwan over-indulging, Tony Stark and Scott Lang get merged.

You two look like you've watched a ghost story.

Mark Schamber

It's a shame she's apparently already seen Tristan & Isolde, I'd love to see her reaction to it. She namedropped it during the video for Stardust.

Glad that you finally discovered (and rediscovered!) this movie, one of my all time favourites. Beautiful animation, great voice acting, I actually love the pacing, the message and a fantastic ending. I actually think my enjoyment of it has increased the more I have watched it over the years.

Paul Stelter

One of the best Superman movies ever. I'm not crying, you're crying! The "Disaster Seen As Catastrophe Looms" newspaper headline is one of the best sight gags in the movie, although the whole "Duck and Cover" classroom training film spoof is genius.

Cassie, about y’all’s surprise at Hogarth going into the deep dark woods in the middle of the night: I believe kids in the 90s and later were raised to be much more cautious than previous generations. I was raised in the 70s and 80s. In the summer, we left home after breakfast and wandered and played in the neighborhood until lunch. After lunch, our parents didn’t see us again until supper. If my friends or I saw or heard something mysterious in some nearby woods, I can practically guarantee we’d have tried to sneak out at night to investigate. In fact, my cousin and I snuck out of his folks’ house one time to explore an abandoned “haunted” house several blocks away. We were 10 or so at the time. Another time, a buddy and I stood watch over a hole in the foundation of a nearby home because another kid had seen a snake go into it and we hoped to catch it, by hand, when it came out (a few years later I finally got my hands on a garter snake but had to let go when it wouldn’t stop snapping at my eyes). We rode bikes without helmets and made improvised ramps to jump. If we fell and scraped a knee, we literally rubbed dirt on it, got back on our bikes and rode. We climbed trees as high as we could go until we got up high enough for the tree to begin swaying. We were in no way unusual. That’s just what kids did back then and, as a result, every day brought new adventures. We were free. PS: For the ultimate “you can choose who you’re going to be” movie, check out Hellboy (2004).

"It's like 'Big Hero Six' meets 'E.T.' meets 'Transformers'!"

Jens Kristensen

Great reaction! And for the record... I cried the first time I saw it back in the 90s. And I still cry every fecking time at the ending... I even got misty eyed watching the reaction... 🖤🤖🥺🥹😥😢😭

A little back story on this movie: So this movie is directed by Brad Bird. Brad Bird also wrote and directed The Incredibles & Ratatouille as well as directing the 4th Mission Impossible film. After Disney had started making so much money with Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid and others, every studio in Hollywood suddenly wanted in on this animation renaissance. Warner Bros, a studio with a deep animation background from the 1930s-1960s, created a new animation division in the mid 1990s. However, like most of the other non Disney studios, they struggled. Animation is hard, expensive & takes awhile. WB released a couple animated movies prior to Iron Giant & they both bombed. Iron Giant was in production & almost finished when the WB big wigs decided to ramp down the studio, planning to eventually close it down completely. This meant Iron Giant was pretty free from creative interference since everyone knew the animation company was almost finished. But this also meant it got almost no marketing push, no Happy meal tie ins, no toys, and worst of all it went up against the marketing bonanza of Disney’s animated Tarzan retelling in summer 1999. A summer which had already seen unprecedented box office success with Star Wars Episode 1, The Matrix, The Mummy etc Iron Giant is actually based on a book called The Iron Man(which is insanely different and has almost no story points shared with the movie beyond Hogarth and the Giant). The movie was in development for a few years as a musical before Brad Bird came on and completely retooled it. Sadly, Brad Bird lost his sister to gun violence and so he pitched the film as “What if a gun had a soul”. The movie was a huge critical hit but a financial bomb. The marketing completely betrayed the movie and it’s one of the biggest marketing failures in history, this movie had “HIT” written all over it. Everyone who saw it went gaga. But it was too little too late. Fortunately the movie has had a strong and growing fan base that cherishes not only the movie but sharing it with others who may not have heard or seen it. It is now considered a full blown animation classic & one of the great animated films ever made. The version you two watched is actually a “Special Edition”. A few years back After the film grew in popularity WB allowed Brad Bird, now one of the most celebrated animation directors in the industry, to finish two scenes they didn’t have time or money for during the original production . One is the giants dream that you saw on Dean’s TV. It gives just a little hint of his possible origins. If you haven’t seen The Incredibles or Ratatouille(both Pixar films) that’ll be a terrific watch. Anyways just thought I’d provide some back story one this stone cold classic

My son and I saw this in the theater when it came out. Great movie!

Agree completely. Compared to Gen Y, Z and beyond, we Gen Xers were basically feral. Unless it was pouring, my Mom literally locked us out of the house in the summer until it was time for lunch and even then, there was often a bag with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and maybe a soda or iced tea on the back porch (and the door was still essentially locked unless you needed to use the bathroom). On our own again until supper (and woe to you if you were late) and then back out until it was time to come in to take a bath or shower and go to bed. Same on winter vacations. You were on your own to find friends or entertain yourself. Playgrounds were not kid proofed, and bullies roamed freely beating up or preying upon younger kids. You learned quickly to stick up for yourself and your friends. Lots more activities that would probably give you heart palpitations and hyperventilation, Cassie 😁. Work started earlier, too. I had a newspaper route at age 9 and started working on a dairy farm at age 12, and then a tobacco farm at age 14. And I had to turn my money or check into my dad every week. Oh, and to ride the bus to school you had to live a minimum of a mile away in our town. Otherwise you were walking — rain, shine or snow.

I know all these names and what the words between the names mean but damn if I can figure out what you are trying to say & what this means lol

Happy Hanukkah

😄 I'm used to it. Elucidation: due to a transporter accident caused by Tech Sergeant Chen (Galaxy Quest) being excessively high, Iron Man and Ant Man (who can decrease and, more relevantly, increase his size) are merged into one being, the Iron Giant. ... ... ... Everybody laugh!

If you're down here, don;lt mind me. I'm just trying to work out how to insert spaces in a post...
