'Ello poppets!

Never know how to start these and change it up....

Hope your Monday is not Monday-ing too hard. It's Ben's birthday this week so that is happy, he is hoping for an Oilers win and to be able to watch the game relatively uninterrupted! I make a much bigger deal out of my birthday, but he's very "I don't need anything, its just a normal day" which just isn't as fun! So we try to spoil him anyways against his will ;)

Also Happy Birthday to our friendly, witty, generous moderator and in house meme-maker Dave! So glad and lucky he is part of the team!

This week we will have a magic show, a finale and a mystery movie depending on what wins our Patriotic Poll! Looks like right now Mr. Smith goes to Washington is just barely ahead of Born on the Fourth of July. Two ends of the spectrum it seems?

I wanted to thank everyone who came to the LIVE on Saturday, I had a blast and a half and love hanging and chatting with all of you! We did a DVD dice game and Poseidon Adventure was our winner so that will be sometime in the next little bit as well!

Just a couple more reminders.

Extra Butter LIVE will be this Sunday evening. Should we watch the season 5 finale episodes? Or just hang out? Would love to know your preference?

I will be taking one week off in July when I go to Canada to visit my parents and sister! I'll keep you updated though!

Thanks bunches! of oats!!

Hang out! Happy birthday Ben! Remember, when you're a dad, no birthday is just a birthday anymore. Save that for when they're grown 😂 have fun with your family and I hope you enjoy the game!

FleetAdmiralJ

I have a feeling you'll enjoy Time's Arrow. Meanwhile I'm already sweating over the Season 6 episode polls lol

Macabre Movie Maniac

Cassie I wanna see you get with Force of Light Entertainment for a watch along. Michelle and Natalie are awesome.

MikeLL

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington will make Cassie fall in love all over again with James Stewart. She will love this movie and the movie is so good, it will make her want to see more Classic Era movies!

Andrew Harrison

Looks like a good mix. Remember, when you get to Days of Future Past (if you haven't already), watch The Rogue Cut, not the Theatrical Cut!

David Freese

Happy Birthday Ben and ItsmeDave. Hope you have a wonderful you day. Watch Trek would be my preference but whatever you do I’ll be there.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

In the wake of Donald Sutherland's death, I have recently rewatched a BBC Scene by Scene interview with him in 2001. He talks about Mash (1970), Don't Look Now (1973) and other movies he made in his career. TRIGGER WARNING, there is a pretty unpleasant, gruesome clip from Bertolucci's epic film 1900 (1976) at 22:20. If you're sensitive to animal cruelty it is best to skip from 22:20 to 25:48. https://vimeo.com/963605198/80e9ce2251?share=copy

Mike Lemon

"Should we watch the season 5 finale episodes?" Please no. I know the trek fans are actually fanatic, but there are at least some of us that aren't Trekkies- and, what, two of the last three "extra butters" have been Trek already.

Dan M

Hey Cassie! You’re intros are just fine. Keep doing what you’re doing. Just seeing you’re weekly updates is enough to put a smile on my face. Happy Birthday to Ben and Dave! 🎉 🎂 I have the same sentiment as Ben…not looking for anything special on my bday, just time with the family and maybe a nice dinner out is fine with me. Good luck to the Oilers! I’m not a big hockey fan, but I’m sure Ben would consider bringing home the Stanley Cup a tremendous birthday gift! As far as the Extra Butter live this Sunday, I’m absolutely fine with just hanging out and shooting the breeze. Looking forward to seeing what movie wins the Fourth of July poll! Hope you have a great week! HELLO SUMMER!

Frank Ponton

Happy birthday Ben I will be rooting for the Oilers, even though I am a diehard Flyers fan

BibbitduBois

I hope you have a great visit in Canada! Happy Birthday to Ben and Dave, even though I'm on the other side of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Jon Johns

I vote just chat! No video, no games, just chat!!

Ib-René Jørgensen

Happy Birthday to Ben and Dave. Sorry i can never join your Live things, even though I am an extra butter, just happy to support you guys. Have a great summer. 😊

Ben Schwartz

YES you should watch the ST season 5 finale! You will like it.

Katie Jackson

Happy Birthday Ben & Dave!🎉🥳 Also yes to Star Trek on the Extra Butter Live

Todzilla

Hey Cassie, I know you were sad about TNG only having 2 more seasons left, and then finishing up the movies. However there is still "Deep Space 9" and "Voyager" that take place in the exact same timeframe as TNG!!! Now I know you are a people pleaser and you want to give the non-trek people a break, but just know you CAN go back to the TNG universe at any time if you feel homesick. Since it DOES take place in the same timeline, there are some familiar characters in DS9 and a whole bunch of new awesome characters for you to love. I know you felt silly for "cheating on Scotty, Kirk and Spock", but you fell in love with Picard and Data. Trust us, you will fall in love with the new DS9 characters, while getting some of the old ones. Some Trekies like it even more than TNG!😮 Voyager is also great. For those out there who like "boss babes" there are a few in Voyager including the Captain. Lastly "Enterprise" is a PREQUEL to "Kirk Star Trek". It really ties in real life 2000s to the "near future" of Star Trek.

Ben Schwartz

You know what? i don't care for X-Men. Or animated movies. They're just not for me. So i skip over them, just as you are more than welcome to skip over Star Trek.

Richard Maurer

Every time I read one of Cassie's Upcoming posts I hope to read that a Classic Horror poll is coming soon, only to have my hopes dashed. What a cruel world we live in!!!!! ;-)

Mike Lemon

"just as you are more than welcome to skip over Star Trek. " I have. All 25-ish "watch slots" so far except Wrath of Khan.

Tim C

It been yrs but" In the Heat of the Night" a good Movie. He was also good in "To Sir with Love" and "The Defiant Ones" with Tony Curtis .It was also a book report for my grade nine English.

Larry Darrell

Last week, my Mom called me and said, “Hey, I get off work at noon, so just come on over when ever you like. I’m going to start cooking when I get home.” My response was, “What for? What’s going on?” She then said, “It’s your birthday.” I then went, “Ohhhhh. That’s tomorrow? Alright.” My birthday’s not a big deal to me either. I’ve got no problem taking In the Heat of the Night, The Prestige, The Poseidon Adventure and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington as a present though. ;-) Thanks to your Honey Oats too :-)

Blake Evans

So excited for this week with The Prestige being one of my all time favorites. Been watching since it came out and to this day I still find new things I didn't catch on to. But you have to pay close attention as the first line of the movie states "Are you watching closely?"

Alberto Gramatges

I stopped caring about my birthday years ago when I hit 25. Hit that final age perk of car rental insurance and said "nothing else matters till I hit like 65 when the senior citizen perks are fully kicking in." , which is still some time off before that happens as well.

Michael West

in my head, I heard Cassie's intro in River's cockney accent from Firefly, haha. Great lineup, I love the Prestige. Happy birthday to Ben and Dave, hope you both have wonderful celebrations. Keep the great reactions coming and safe travels to Canada.

Andrew R

I got for LOTR extras for the extra butter live

Laura Thornley

A little taster of the pilot episodes of Deep Space Nine and Voyager might be a good suggestion. DS9 is rather plot heavy and serialised after the first season (which I love, but can be difficult to sample view) but Voyager in many ways is the true spiritual successor to TNG (even if it takes a while to really get on its feet, the pilot episode is very good).

K, Zachary

So my girlfriend from 15 years ago actually we were engaged. Wants me to move back in with her. She thinks Cassie is really good influence on me. She said " I can't believe that girl got to watch Star Trek TNG. Never thought I would see the day" My friends think I won the lottery with my ex/current girlfriend. Her and I were out on Saturday and missed your show. Sorry about that. I did watch 7 episodes from Star Trek season 6 and six episodes from season 7 including the series finale. So I actually would be open to watching Star Trek on Extra butter live 🤯. Yeah I wouldn't mind it. I watched both of those episodes. Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, originally done by NIN is probably the best cover version of any song. That song came off of NIN Downward Spiral album which Trent Reznor recorded in the same house Sharon Tate was murdered in. https://www.nin.wiki/Le_Pig Here is Johnny Cash's version. One of the most heartbreaking videos you will ever watch. He sings with regret in his voice. It's interesting how you can take a song like this and connect with it when it comes to your own life. https://youtu.be/8AHCfZTRGiI?si=yfP3X53B-FTENWpV

Brent Petty

Don't forget about the Collateral reaction. Carly would like it too, I think.

Stranger2Reality

Agreed, if they haven't already seen it, they should go with the theatrical cut. Both versions are worth seeing, but neither one is any better than the other, and the theatrical cut is more widely available and the one that most people have seen.

David Freese

Todzilla we can only hope that some day she does DS9 🤞🤞

ArsTropica

Glad that you are taking some time off. You definitely deserve it!!!

Stranger2Reality

Yeah, I'm with you on this, it's been a lot really. She only watched 3 TOS episodes to get a vague sense of those characters before watching the movies, and that was perfect. I really don't think she's needed to watch 50 something TNG episodes just to get a sense of this crew for the 4 TNG movies, but whatever. Hopefully it's over soon and she doesn't continue on with a million other Trek shows, cause it's really getting to be kinda ridiculous. Trekkies are hard core fans, however it's a relatively small but incredibly vocal group that are the ones who keep clamoring for this. It's kinda overwhelming the channel, so hopefully this is almost over with.

Stranger2Reality

Like a bunch of Nolan movies, it rewards repeat viewings once you go in knowing the twists and turns, but I remember loving it right off the bat when I first saw it in theaters. That's arguably Nolan's best film, IMO.

MikeLL

I must say, that with IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (1967) being posted today, MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON (1939) winning the July 4th poll to be seen next week, and with THE POSEIDEN ADVENTURE (1972) winning the live dice game poll over the weekend, this channel is finally, finally getting back on track . . . towards some older movies. I admit I was losing faith, but sticking with Popcorn In Bed is always the right decision. Faith restored!!

Larry Darrell

Lovin’ the Positive Vibes. I like to think Jean Arthur is going to make an impression as well. :-)

Todzilla

Laura I agree about Voyager having more standalone episodes Cass could enjoy. I know some folks rate Voyager lower than the others but I felt there were some cool arcs and thought provoking scenarios. The doctor is unique and a "Hugh like" person shows up that is pretty amazing.

Ken Morgan

I'm so happy The Prestige made it. Great movie. Looking forward to watching it with you.

Richard Maurer

Cassie is obviously enjoying ST, or we probably wouldn't be seeing this many episodes. Let her have her fun.

Larry Darrell

I recently checked the films just from this year that she has reacted to, against an early list of films I made for recommendation. Those 3 films you mentioned plus The Prestige, knocks well over 20 films off my early list. This has been a Great Year!

Richard Maurer

How about movie poll picks? Maybe random from Popcorn Requests?

My_Cousin_Mose

We never know what the first line of these posts are gonna be so its fun all around. My vote goes to hanging out. I've tried a couple times now but Star Trek just isn't for me. And I hope you have a great time up north with your family.

My_Cousin_Mose

Happy Birthday Ben! Thanks for convincing Cassie to start this channel and for doing all the work you do keeping it running. From what we hear its a lot.

Richard Maurer

My birthday means so little to me that I once spent almost an entire year thinking I was a year older than I actually was.

Dan M

A great year indeed! I’ve also had quite a few of my “can’t wait for movies” checked off my list. Mr. Holland’s Opus, Pleasantville, War of the Worlds, and The X-Men movie series. Hoping the 2nd half of 2024 is just as good, if not better.

Dan M

Sometimes its just nice to talk

Dave

Happy Birthday to Ben, the "Oil that keeps the Popcorn poppin". Thank you for all of this! And my vote is for just hanging out during the live. Sunday nite chill sesh.

David Freese

She said durning the live on Saturday that it would be the Rogue Cut because the theater cut isn’t on Disney + and everyone suggesting it.

David Freese

Well that means there were 50ish “watch slots “ with other stuff things go in cycles in reactions. When Bond was on I was bored to tears for most of them so not everything is for everyone and I think you underestimate how many subs and Patreons wanted Star Trek from the beginning.

Steve Holton

Ever since my birthday was mis-entered in a federal database adding 100 years to my official age, celebrating my birthday is sometimes a bit of joke. Overloaded candles, commemoratives from the gilded age, etc. But after the pranks I just prefer a home cooked meal …Of my favorite foods from the 1800's. 😊 Hope Ben and Dave have a great birthday this week. As a fake super centenarian, I can dispense no learned wisdom (Just a lot of tedious age correcting paperwork advice). But you both do great creative and administrative work here. Please don’t retire anytime soon. Agencies will only suggest you stop working after age 99, trust me I know. 😊

Mark Vaderr

Happy Birthday to the Creator, Ben! The package opening this past Saturday was so much fun. I enjoyed my exclusive behind-the-scenes look. I noticed that it was not on the YouTube channel, will it be posted later? For the next Butter chat, I vote for another hangout. It gives us a chance to talk about more upcoming polls and themes and just interacting with you is so much fun. Remember the cereal chat? Looking forward to the fun of this week.

Chris Thom

Happy Birthday Ben! And Dave, too!

JohnnyUtah

Love birthdays, especially others! Happiest to all. Can't wait for the Prestige.

Daniel Karlsson

Please no more Trek on the Extra Butter lives. Its been extra butter Trek for the last 6 months, not very fun for the non trekkies.

kaiielle

I vote for just chats in the butter live! They're a lot of fun and it means everyone can join in.

Oberhauser-Blofeld

If you ever get the chance I cannot recommend the movie ‘The Age of Adaline’ enough. It is one of those under the radar charming movies that would be best shared with Carly. A supernatural fantasy romance movie starring Blake Lively and Harrison Ford. I know you’ll be in Canada for awhile but when you get back before the end of the year hopefully you’ll watch it or put it on a poll called ‘Under the Radar movie poll’ or something like that. Just a thought. Have a good trip to Canada. 🇨🇦

Cole Jennett

It is a great movie, but I’m afraid she’s already seen it.

D.M. Lipkin

I am thrilled to see In the Heat of the Night get picked.

Stick Figure Studios

It looks like Frank Capra's MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON is going to win the 4th of July poll. This pleases me as it's a bona fide classic. One of the great Hollywood movies made about American politics, possibly Jimmy Stewart's best performance and a clear influence on DAVE. I know you'll love it, Cassie. I am confident you will also enjoy THE PRESTIGE. It is very good, arguably Christopher Nolan's best movie, and it will be fun I think for you to see Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale in a movie together (Wolverine and Batman!). Looking forward to this week. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, it may go through periods where mostly crap gets watched, but Popcorn in Bed always seems to come back around to great and/or classic films. There are some especially good ones coming up (IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, POSEIDON ADVENTURE, PRESTIGE, MUNICH, CHARIOTS OF FIRE, MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON, etc).

Stick Figure Studios

It's one of those rare films that I left the theater wanting to immediately turn around and head right back in to watch it again.

Stick Figure Studios

Stewart is teriffic (arguably his best performance) and Arthur is wonderful, but my favorite character, the one I find the most interesting and compelling, is the Claude Rains one.

AceofSpades501

Can't wait for you to see the Prestige, also can't wait to see what you thought of The Wolverine

Daniel Karlsson

So far in 2024 2/5 extra butter lives have been live watchalongs to Star Trek. 0/5 non Star Trek live watchalongs. Time for something else please

Richard Maurer

I've never been a fan of live chats, especially with someone as popular as Cassie. Too many people writing random nonsense and boring questions.

Björn Karlsson

Right Daniel 🙂 A certain swedish movie from 1998 🤩🤩🤩

Ocelot

Happy Birthday & have a great day Ben! 🎁🎂

Joe J

Nice that Cassie does hit some older top films. Tbh, I'm getting Star Trek and X-Men franchise fatigue, so will be glad when all that's over, but will take awhile yet (haha).

My_Cousin_Mose

@Richard 1-6000 anything goes? Could be good, could be bad. That'd be fine by me. But I also really enjoy the live chats with Cassie.

Richard Maurer

@My_Cousin_Mose - 1-6000+ would be best, but I don't know if Cassie would be willing to gamble that big.

Chris Thom

I think that video was inspired by Mad Max: Thunderdome. With Tina Turner.

Chris Thom

Wolverine was posted four days ago I think if you haven't seen it.

Chris Thom

The winner of the trivia night picked that.

Chris Thom

Were they able to fix your b-day information? Sounds like that could be a major headache.

Above Average Dave

Happy Birthday, Ben! Enjoy the day and savor the moments with the family (unless someone pukes again on the sheets — that can be unsavored)!

Kyle Prince

Happy Birthday Ben! A bunches of Oats????????????????

Steve Holton

Chris, though I’ve stood in long lines to fix it, the error propagates. I still can’t file any electronic forms properly. I get in a birthday loop. If I enter my real birthday, it says it’s wrong, if I enter the one they are checking against (The one from a hundred years prior) the software won’t accept those numbers because they are too old. The main hassle is not being able to e-file taxes every year. Fortunately, I could correct it with my state, so I can get the right IDs. Passing background checks is mixed. If the investigator has a sense of humor and has seen Highlander, Interview With a Vampire, etc. we can joke about me being on holy ground or staying out of the sunlight. 😊

Jon Johns

Hey Ben, I missed your Birthday, sorry. And Happy Birthday to DAVE, a fellow Mod, expert video editor / meme maker, and very good fellow. And to anyone else with a birthday this week! Happy of happy's to you all!

NSG MMA

Maybe it will drop tonight 🤞

Billy Dancel

Happy Birthday week to Ben! Can’t wait for everything to come!

Brent Petty

I think it's a quote from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Michael West

You’re right. I Completely forgot about that line.

Clarence Newman

As it's his birthday week, how about a poll of Ben's favourite movies? We know how he loves to scare Cassie, so maybe it'll include The Exorcist. (Just kidding, Cassie. I am NOT an Exorcist-endorser!)

Ben Schwartz

Honestly, i hope she watches Enterprise... my second favorite Trek series, next to TNG. But i realize i'm in the minority lol. i LOVED Enterprise, Jonathan Archer/Scott Bakula, T'Pol/Jolene Blaylock, etc. i loved the standalone episodes as well as the story arcs, and i thought it was a tragic mistake when they prematurely canceled the show. i always thought Captain Archer was right up there with Kirk, Sisko, Janeway and Picard, and that Enterprise ship had real character, even without a sentient computer-core.

MikeLL

Yes, I was thinking a two parter for the EB live is just too much. It always starts too late for me as I live on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean /joke.

MikeLL

Chats and games, and trailers, oh my!!

Laura Thornley

Todzilla, Voyager has its highs and lows for sure. It has a lot of the worst Trek episodes, but also some of the very best. And if the entire thing had the same vibes as Year of Hell it would probably be my favourite Trek show.

Steve Holton

@Philip Alan: Oh you know. Beaver Tail, Eel Pie, Syllabub with all the fixins. Hits the spot after a long day at the telegraph office. 😊

Cole Jennett

I definitely think she’d enjoy that one.

Ben Schwartz

But maybe Carly would enjoy The Exorcist? Lol

Björn Karlsson

"In the middle of Atlantic Ocean".. Are you from the Azores islands😉😉😁

Clarence Newman

Alas, reading the Wikipedia synopsis for The Exorcist would end Carly.

Ben Schwartz

Honestly, if you've already tried everything, i would consider contacting my congressman/congresswoman and seeing if they can help cut through the bullshit.

Steve Holton

Thanks Ben, yeah last time I did that it did improve things. Probably time to try it again. I’m not getting any younger. 😊

LukeG84

Agreed. Only watched it for the first time earlier this year and it’s hands down one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

LukeG84

I don’t think Cassie will like The Prestige, but interested to see how she handles the ending. Wish Cassie would start watching sequels to movies she’s already seen like Jumanji: The Next Level, Split, Glass, Crocodile Dundee 2 and 3, and the rest of the Scream movies etc. When you have OCD like me it’s so frustrating to watch the first movie along with Cassie but not be able to watch the rest.

Mike Lemon

"the rest of the Scream movies" -She didn't like Scream, why would she watch more of them?

LukeG84

For her subscribers like me who love those movies maybe! 🤞🏻 It’s a long shot but I’m going to keep mentioning it (and the other ones) in the hopes others who feel the same mention them too.

WestBound

Right she won't like one of nolans best films ....

LukeG84

Debatable. I guess we’ll see!

Chris Thom

Is he a horror movie fan?

Chris Thom

Also wish she would continue with Scream. But looks like she sees zero value in scary stuff. A bit frustrating when she immediately dives in to 12 plus hours of Star Trek. Also kind of shocked she had no desire to finish up The Matrix. Knew going in that it was the worst reviewed by far, but still HAD to see how it concluded.

Clarence Newman

Ben is an enigma. In 560 reactions, we've only ever seen his arm, usually with Cassie clinging to it like a koala bear. He does love to scare her, though, so who knows? We might end up picking from The Exorcist, Antichrist, The Human Centipede and Passion of the Christ, with Scarface thrown in as the easy option.

Jay Jay Reyes

I don't know if you will ever see this but as a romance comedy. For you and Carly. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Is a movie I think you would love. Stars Ewen McGregor and Emily Blunt. I hope you see this. It would be awesome.

Brent Petty

Disagree. I think she'll be intrigued. Can't wait to find out. :)

LukeG84

It’s mostly the ending I think she won’t like. I know I didn’t. We’ll know soon enough.

Richard Maurer

I want to see her do more horror movies too, but ones that are actually good. She saw one Scream movie, she's seen them all.

K, Zachary

I vote that we watch the episode Relics from STNG tonight

Mike Lemon

Is the "Extra Butter" happening tonight?

Jesse Fugate

You should watch Cobra Kai 😁 It's amazing 😁

My_Cousin_Mose

Cassie mentioned on a live once that she likes it. If I remember correctly she said it was a guilty pleasure show.

Dean D Smith

You should try a Steven Spielberg film. Young Sherlock Holmes". 1985
