I’ve been looking forward to this one for a long time, and this is great timing for a rewatch!

Mark Daniels

Yes!!! This channel may not have been built for this movie, but y’all have grown into making it mandatory at this point.

MJ

Oh I love this movie!

Just Plain Bob

Suggestions for future Kurt Russell reactions: Escape from New York Captain Ron Dark Blue The Hateful Eight And a suggestion for another uplifting movie: The World’s Fastest Indian (also a true story)

Marcos

Looking forward to watching along with y’all soon! If you are interested in a documentary on this, “Of Miracles and Men” (30 for 30 season 2 Ep 27 on Hulu) is a good one - from the Soviet perspective. “Do you believe in Miracles”, which was an HBO documentary with lots of interviews on the US side, sadly doesn’t appear to be streaming anywhere.

2026-11-01 00:00 You have to watch the 1960's "Flower Power"era Disney movies Kurt made,'The Computer Wore Tennis shoes' is a good example..

Bill Maurer

Definitely "Escape from New York"!!!

Dan M

I haven’t seen this movie in a long, long, long….LONG time. I barely remember it. But….just got home from a long day at work, getting ready for a late night dinner, and I’ll be re-acquainting myself with some clappers and stick magic. I mentioned on the Extra Butter live that you should have another sports movie poll soon, seeing as how you love you some sports movies. Just a couple of suggestions for the poll: Eight Men Out (baseball with a stellar cast) Youngblood (more hockey with Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze) The Best of Times (football with Kurt Russel and Robin Williams) The Longest Yard (football-both the original with Burt Reynolds, and the remake with Adam Sandler…and Burt Reynolds).

Zane From Canada

This is Remember The Titans for Canadians. 😁🏒 🇨🇦 A family friend of mine is in this movie. Michael Kopsa. Played the character Bruce Norris, one of the men sitting at the table when they're talking about changing the way we play the game. This was the second time he worked with Kurt Russell, first time was 3000 Miles To Graceland. All around great man. 😁 Sadly, Mike passed away in 2022 from a brain tumor. Rest In Peace. 😔

Michael Lynch

Yes Yes Yes!!! this is all I wanted this week. This movie is incredible.

Uncle Phoenix

I keep thinking, “What if Cassie and Carly are mutants, and their super power is being cute and likable.” How could we tell for sure?

Dan M

I remember those…The Strongest Man in the World was a favorite of mine.

Dan M

Direct and to the point. I like it 👍

Lyle Morgan

Munich is an Olympic movie about like Forrest Gump is a football movie.

K, Zachary

Cassie, Yeah I think we are going to save this one for when we are in British Columbia next week I realize it's the USA but Ice Hockey = Canada. Now to other news and this has nothing to do with anything I bought. I know this will come at really no shock to anyone but I screwed up. I might have been a little hasty on my vlog last week. I think I was afraid of sin. I asked my girlfriend/roommate since we basically live together now if she thought you were beautiful she said of course I am not blind. As our discussion progressed she said Zach G** gave us eyes to see beauty with, you should appreciate it. Needless to say others said the same thing you can find someone beautiful but not be attracted to them. My gf said the same thing. I will be probably be making a full disclosure and a very sincere apology in two weeks when I do my next vlog which is scheduled for July 19th. My gf Eva and want to wish you a safe and happy trip to see your family we hope you plenty of rest and relaxation for you and your entire family. We both think your beautiful inside and out. We have much ❤️ for you, Ben your editor and husband and your sister part time assistant Carly and as always you will be in our 🙏and remember you are Classy Cassie.

Chris Bailey

A nice little nugget about the cast: The director was worried about finding actors who could skate and play hockey. So what they did is selected actual hockey players and taught them how to act. Most members of the team were making their acting debut. The accents were real; not acting.

Clay F

+1 for Escape from New York

2-Can

AGAIN!

Chris Retzlaff

Ok, I'll try the Choclate covered cinnamon bears🤣🤣

DSM The Editor

Oh yay, my first day as a member and you did one of my favorite sportsball movies!

Mike Lemon

Everybody knows, it was about every other comment during the poll- which it won.

Mike Lemon

I missed you saying there would (edit- should) be another sports poll during the live. Soul Surfer (2011) needs to be included. Based on a true story about a girl and that is about all that can be said to avoid major spoilers.

Mike Lemon

"When you pull on that jersey, the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the name on the back." It seems like too many have forgotten that.

Keith Jones

For those old enough to experience this it was amazing, at a time we felt down as a country, this was a win, it was all we could talk about for weeks. Whether or not if the 80's were an American decade, this moment defined the beginning of that decade and was easily the most patriotic moment of my youth. This movie got it right if not on every fact, but in the mood. Thanks as always for a wonderful reaction.

D. T. Nelson

I remember watching those last three games on TV as a 12 year old kid who knew nothing about hockey. I remember the excitement that everyone felt when the US team made it to the medal rounds. And I especially remember the feelings everyone had when they beat the favored soviet team. The final win against Finland that clinched the gold was almost anticlimactic... almost.

Rick Williams

First time watching this movie. Good movie. Cassie and Carly really get into sports movie. Which makes for exciting reactions. Great Reaction Ladies. More sports movies. P.S. Cassie good job taking command of your kids. They listened quick. 🙂

Just Plain Bob

I don’t know what other sports he played but Kurt Russell was literally a world class baseball player as a young man. His first dream was to be a pro baseball player, even though he’d had enormous success as a child actor. He played in the minor leagues and appeared headed to the majors when an injury ended his career. His father, who was also an actor, owned a minor league team, so baseball was in the family’s blood. There’s a fantastic and fun documentary called “The Battered Bastards of Baseball” that tells the story. The last I checked it was available on Netflix. Very fun documentary that may even be worth a reaction.

Robert Durant

Great reaction girls. I was not disappointed as I knew yall would love this with it being Kurt Russell, sports, and a true story. We really needed this moment not only in sports but for the USA at that time and Herb was right about "dream teams" because the dream has been lost over the years. Kurt put it all in the role of Herb and it's a shame he wasn't nominated that year for best actor because he earned it. Also the "do you believe in miracles?" line by Al MIchaels during the last 5 seconds was the real line from the actual game. I've waited a long time for you two girls to see this and y'all made me very happy with how much you loved it.

Andrew Rose

I watched that game live as a child.. one of the most heartbreaking and inspiring stories.. I can vividly remember Jim Craig on the ice after the game looking for his Dad in the stands.. Made me cry as a youngster and made me weep as an adult.

Andrew Rose

You may already be aware of this but for those who were unaware, the hostages they referred to from the embassy in Iraq when finally released, they played this game for them from a taped recording as one of the first items in catching those folks up to what had gone on in the world.

Matthew Folz

Great movie and great reaction. Off topic but mentioned at the beginning of the video.... for the love of everything, do NOT watch Elvis. Austin Butler is great as Elvis, but it is by far far far Tom Hanks' worst performance ever.

Rose

Soul Surfer is a wonderful movie. Also love another based on a true story movie: Brian’s Song.

Michael Lynch

Oh, and you forgot that Herb’s wife in this movie was the wardens wife in the green mile that had the brain tumor.

djKENTO

The Three Mile Island nuclear crisis they mention in the opening? That’s when Wolverine and Sabertooth fought Deadpool on that nuclear stack… no joke. They made that meltdown about Wolverine in the X-Men movies.

TinCan Cosmanaut

I was born in Russia (live in America) will this be a hard watch for me?

Rose

Michael Mantenuto who played Jack O'Callahan did a couple movies after Miracle - one of them was in a small role in Matthew McConaughey’s Surfer, Dude. He eventually enlisted in the U.S. Army and joined the Special Forces (Green Beret). He had served his country and had contributed so much to his community but had a tragic end. His portrayal in this film was one of my favorites. Highly recommend watching “Do You Believe in Miracles? The Story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team.” It’s an excellent documentary.

Just Plain Bob

I’m pretty sure they were talking about John Carpenter’s Elvis tv movie, which starred Kurt Russell.

2-Can

The ironic thing about the USSR game - it was not broadcast live in the US, it was played on tape delay about an hour later. Only Americans near the border who got a Canadian TV station were able to watch it live. This has never left me (and ABC had the nerve to call themselves “The World-Wide Leader In Sports” - smh). I listened to it live on the radio in the kitchen with my father - who committed to that team for the whole Olympics (which was a bit unusual b/c he wasn’t a big sports guy). I watched the tape delayed broadcast b/c I really needed to see that it had actually happened.

Ramah Mustangs

I am so glad you reacted to this movie. It was fantastic. It is one of my favorite sports movie. A few years ago I was able to get autographs of some of the players including Jim Craig, Mike Eruzione, Rob McClanahan, and Jack O’Callahan.

Dan M

I did not know that about Kurt Russell. I always thought he was a very talented actor, but it seems he’s multitalented. I’m going to have check out that documentary. Thanks for sharing that.

Michael West

Great reaction. Still, for me, the single greatest sporting event of my lifetime. Living those last 10 minutes with Jim Craig getting save after save was tense, nerve racking and exciting all at the same time. Thanks for watching this. It never gets old.

Texas Anla'Shok

Herb's speech right before the game is good, but I really like what he said to them right before their last game that clinched the gold medal. "If you lose this, you'll take it to your graves." He turns to leave then looks back at them. "Your f---ing graves."

Dan M

Oh yeah…great suggestion for a sports poll. I saw Soul Surfer with my daughters. Very inspiring.

Dan M

I watched Brian’s Song a few months ago for the first time. Wow!

T J

I can't tell you where I was when I first saw this movie, but I can tell you EXACTLY where I was when I saw the real thing. I was a freshman in college. Bear in mind that I have lived in the Deep South all my life and my knowledge of hockey at that time would fit into a thimble with room to spare. There was a buzz about this game across the nation. A few of my friends and I were going out to get pizza and someone turned on the radio. They reported the score (I believe it was in the first period) and the game was very close. After we got our pizza we went to the TV lounge at the dorm to watch the rest of the contest. Absolutely thrilling. We did need that pick up, something to cheer for, something to bring us together like we need now. The real event and movie has continued to inspire me. I went back to college last year and carried with me a line from this movie, that I would leave NOTHING on the table. No matter how high a grade I had, I was going to do every bit of work to succeed. Excellent reaction! You ARE uncommon ladies!

Dan M

I’m in…maybe add in some other classic Disney live action movies from the 60s. Herbie the Love Bug and That Darn Cat.

Art of Free Speech

You ladies may or may not have recognized Eddie Cahill who played Jim Craig. He was on Friends as Rachel's assistant and boyfriend "Tag" in season 7. He also had a major recurring role in CSI:NY.

Clay F

Great reaction. Good movie about a monumental upset in sports history. Awesome performance by Kurt Russell. The movie is inspirational. I remember when the game happened. Big deal to beat the Soviets, a striking competitor in Olympic sports and our nemesis outside of sports. In a speech in 1983, President Ronald Reagan referred to the Soviet Union as the “evil empire.” President Jimmy Carter did have the US boycott the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow in response to the Soviet Union invasion of Afghanistan. Four years later, the Soviet Union boycotted the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles as payback. I also remember the Iranian hostage crisis. That was a huge deal. [I notice that you've seen Argo (2012).] Patricia Clarkson (who played Herb's wife) was the wife of the Kevin Costner character (Elliot Ness) in The Untouchables. She was also the warden's wife in The Green Mile -- the warden's wife had the brain tumor cured by the big-guy John Coffey. Patricia Clarkson is in "Sharp Objects" (2018) (8 episodes) (w/Amy Adams), which I liked. Please react to Elvis (2022) you asked Carly about in the intro. Same director as for Moulin Rouge (2001)

Tom Furze

It has been a while since I have seen this movie. But I will say it felt like I was transported back in time to that game. Your reaction was absolutely beautiful. I found myself crying with you, cheering with you, it really felt like I was at the game. Ladies, thank you so very much, you made my evening!

Chris Retzlaff

I watch this movie once a year and still get fired up at the end....Al Michael's is a legend too. Football in 61 days people. Lets go!!

Doug Fisher

True... but it was still the undoing of Carter.

Andrew Rose

I mentioned that more about the healing power of inspirational stories. I wouldn't bring up politics here.. not really the place for it.

Doug Fisher

Cass and Carly... you have to keep a few things in mind. In those days, the Soviet Union (U.S.S.R) was made up of 15 countries and they never, ever let their players leave. So, basically it was all their top, top "professional" hockey players (though still classified as "amateur") who played together for years. Meanwhile, all of Canada's and to some extent the US's top players were all in the NHL and not allowed to participate in the Olympics (due to being professionals) until 1998 (Nagano, Japan). The bulk of NHL players at that time were Canadian, so the Olympic teams we sent were not our "A" teams, heck, they were more like our "Z" teams. The boys did their best but they really didn't stand a chance. Which makes "Miracle" even more miraculous.

Mike Lemon

Only if you were a big CCCP sports fan. There is very little politics in the movie.

Zane From Canada

Detective Don Flack in CSI: NY. I love his character. 😁 Funny, sharp, smart, tough, always had his teams back. He's my second favorite CSI Detective next to Jim Brass from the original CSI. 😁

Mojo One Thousand

The force is strong with this one... Patricia Clarkson ("Patti") is indeed the "funny mom" with an equally funny Stanley Tucci as her husband in "Easy A". That movie was my guess of where she may have been recognised once I saw her name in the credits, even though (as others have mentioned) she has been in other movies that have been reacted to. There are two solid movies that follow the events of the geopolitical events that are referred to in this movie. "Argo" for the Iranian hostage crisis (which has been seen but not reacted to) and, "Charlie Wilson's War" which is about the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan that almost lead to the Soviets not going the Olympics in this movie - this movie also game up in the recent Extra Butter live as candidate for Julia Roberts movie that was to seen (yes, although Tom Hank's is the titular "Charlie Wilson"). I had never seen this... there were some very loud trousers involved, kudos to the costume department.

Scott Macaulay

Another great sports movie reaction. I haven't watched this in years. I remember the actual event when I was 10. My family is from Boston and were really into hockey. My cousin, Billy McCormack, actually played for the Philadelphia Flyers. He sadly passed away this year. RIP.

Gábor Árki

This was an incredible reaction, exactly what I had hoped for. It's always captivating to witness your reactions to these based on true story sports movies. I'm not a very emotional person, but these kind of movies tend to get to me, and these emotions are dialed to 11 if combined with your reaction. During that era, sports were intensely politicized, particularly in the Eastern Bloc. The Soviets, along with several other countries under their influence, used athletics as a platform to demonstrate their superiority over the 'decadent' West. They invested vast resources to ensure victory, turning sports competitions into arenas for ideological battles. The stakes were not just about winning games, but also about proving the strength and resilience of their political system. Therefore, when the USA defeated them in a sport they had dominated for decades, it was more than just a sports victory. Here are some recommendations for other great sports movies based on true stories: McFARLAND, USA (2015) - based on the true story of how a high school football coach attempts to build a cross country team, starring Kevin Costner. THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN (2005) - based on the true story of New Zealander Burt Munro, following his journey to Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats to test his modified Indian motorcycle in speed racing, starring Anthony Hopkins. INVICTUS (2009) - as you know, my favorite of the genre. Based on the true story, how newly elected president Nelson Mandela tries to unite the racially torn South Africa after the fall of the Apartheid, using rugby. Starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman.

Gábor Árki

+1 for The World’s Fastest Indian.

Art of Free Speech

I have to admit to being a Gil Grissom guy. I'm a massive geek myself, so always kind of identify with other geeks. Can we agree David Caruso's portrayal of Horatio Caine was one of, if not THE most annoying characters in the CSI series of shows?

Steve Holton

The Soviet boycott of the Los Angeles games led to NATO countries dominating the awards. McDonalds lost an incredible amount of money on certificates they issued with each meal promising additional food for American medal wins. I remember my parents marveling at the reduced traffic in Southern California for the 1984 games. Residents anticipated nightmare congestion, so many left town, resulting in the best freeway driving experience in recent history. I watched Olympic water polo at Pepperdine University and the marathon race on San Vicente Boulevard. Looking forward to the games returning to the city in 2028.

Larry Darrell

Daaannnng! Y’all didn’t watch ANY of the End Credit Title Cards, that showed what the players wound up doing after hockey, set to the perfect song choice of Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” Oh Well ;-) ESPN’s doc-series 30 for 30 did an Awesome documentary on this story, but told from the Russians side of it. The pressure to win was much greater for the Russians and when they returned home after losing for the first time in 20 years… things were not good for them. If you get the chance to watch it, please do. It’s on Disney+ and about 1 hr 40 mins. No reaction required. It’s called… Of Miracles and Men (2015) ———————— Patricia Clarkson, who played Herb Brooks’ wife, Patti, has been seen on this channel before in… The Untouchables (1987) as Kevin Costner’s, Eliot Ness’ wife. The Green Mile (1999) as the Warden’s wife, Melinda, who had cancer. Shutter Island (2010) as one of the Rachels. And before the channel in… Jumanji (1995) as young Alan Parrish’s mother. and possibly some other romantic comedies not worth mentioning ;-) —————————- Ok, Herb and Patti went to a costume party dressed as Nick and Nora Charles. So now I can’t let the moment pass to recommend, the first film in a series of 6, featuring the greatest Husband and Wife crime solving duo… The Thin Man (1934). And as many times as The Coneheads was mentioned in Miracle, I also got to recommend… Coneheads (1993), for a good ole fun 90s comedy. :-)

Larry Darrell

+1 for Captain Ron (1992). Right up your Alley.

Larry Darrell

The Dexter Riley films were some of my favorites growing up… The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969) Now You See Him, Now You Don’t (1972) The Strongest Man in the World (1975)

Larry Darrell

+1 for Eight Men Out (1988). This will explain Shoeless Joe Jackson’s character from Field of Dreams (1989).

Larry Darrell

Cassie asked Carly if she had seen Elvis yet, and Carly immediately said no. I could be wrong, but I doubt that Cassie would think it possible that Carly would’ve seen a 3 hr TV movie from 1979 before her. Most likely they were thinking of Elvis (2022). That being said, I do highly recommend watching… Elvis (1979)… directed by John Carpenter, starring Kurt Russell in one his best roles, as Elvis Presley. Also starring Kurt’s real life Dad, Bing Russell as Elvis’ Dad.

Larry Darrell

Cassie has said that she did not watch and did not like Friends. 🤷🤯

Larry Darrell

Pepperdine University, the home of the greatest sporting event in history… The Battle of the Network Stars ;-)

Zane From Canada

Right on! Been a CSI man since the beginning. I can definitely see how Caruso's character was annoying to the vast majority. Each catchphrase and cliche slowly became more and more ridiculous. 😆 At least with Grissom and the original CSI, his often deadpan delivery of catchphrases and play-on-words made them funny. 😁

Clay F

I watched INVICTUS (2009) in the theater when released and have watched many time since at home. I also like McFARLAND, USA (2015). I don't think I've watched THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN (2005) but want to.

Gábor Árki

I missed it in theaters, but since I purchased the Blu-ray I watched it almost every year. I just love that boost of inspiration and positivity it provides. The World's Fastest Indian has a different, more personal perspective, and Burt Munro is undoubtedly a fascinating individual to learn about.

Clay F

I remember that the Soviet Bloc boycott of the Los Angeles games led to NATO countries dominating the awards. I almost made that same comment. That's interesting about McDonalds losing money. I don't remember that but makes sense. The LA games had a different feel to me -- it was odd. I am envious you watched Olympic events.

Kim Brink

Awsome reaction as ever, but have you done something to your mic sensitivity? Everytime you move a little in the bed or rumbling with the snacks it's like a fullblown ASMR session :-) i'ts even more when you have Cassie with you and both is moving around. Just wanted to tell you, because I don't remember this as a issue before a week or two ago.

Art of Free Speech

@Larry I had absolutely no clue. I never heard her say that, but I have to say, that's shocking! I don't know that I would have pictured a more Cassie-esque comedy than Friends. I don't get it.

Johnny Bullis

So much to say about this movie.. 1st off its amazing it didnt win Best Picture.. staggering.. the themes in the movie were awesome.. and that score for the final game was intense.. the build up.. you could feel it. And the fact that the "miracle" wasnt that they won .. but that they got the lead with 10 min left and held them from scoring.. that was the real miracle. I havent seen this movie in years.. and it was great re-living in with you two lovely ladies. This time actually made me tear up a little. Thanks for watching this one Cassie.

Matthew Folz

As I stated once on a previous post, I'd love to see Cassie and Carly do some 30 for 30s. Of Miracles and Men, Benji, Without Bias, Once Brothers, The Two Escobars (to warn Cassie if she's reading this- this one is 85-90% in Spanish and subtitled). These are just some of my suggestions.

Matthew Folz

Camp opens in 15 days. GO PACK GO!

Uncle Phoenix

Shut-up. I wasn’t crying. You guys were crying.

Canadianant

Great movie and a great sports story. It's tough for this Canuck to cheer for the USA but it's a true miracle. That being said the Canadian in me wouldn't be doing my part if I didn't say that we beat the Russians 8 years earlier in 1972. Not to take away from what the American team did in the Olympics but the story of the 1972 Summit series is such lore in Canada. It is viewed with legendary status in Canada. The entire country riveted by this series. If anyone is interested in that series here's a good primer...https://youtu.be/2Kejv2ZgzL4?si=Slm7KBIHtseGNs0V

ITMacPro

One of my favorites. Can always rewatch this on an annual basis.

Chris Thom

You sold me on those cinnamon bear things. Sounds soooo good right now. Can you get those on Amazon?

Matthew Gibson

Not really big on Hockey but I do remember seeing this on a Saturday with guys from my dorm back in college. Instantly one of my favorite movies ever! Seeing it with a couple Canadian chicks who are more knowledgeable about Hockey just makes it even more entertaining! Yeah, I may also tear up a bit towards the end as well.

Matthew Gibson

Of Miracles and Men is an excellent follow up to this.

TinCan Cosmanaut

I do, i always cheer for my country of origin. (Russia is always the bad guy and i get why) but like anyone watching World cup or Olympics most ppl cheer for where we were born. Also Rocky was fantastic

Larry Darrell

Agreed. I mentioned No Reaction Required because there are some things that I feel ought to be watched sooner, rather than later. Instead of holding out, waiting for the right poll or scheduled spot that might take years. Like something that applies to a film she just watched. There is another, 30 for 30, that will work great with I, Tonya, titled The Price of Gold (2014). A Reaction would be great, no doubt, but some things I’d still just be happy with knowing she watched it.

Jon Johns

I heard a story once: two teams play a hard game, and the losing team cannot figure out why they lost. As they head to their locker room, the coach makes them walk past the winning teams locker room. They think they are going to have to hear all the celebrating, and be humiliated, but there is almost total silence coming from the winning teams room. As the losing team walks past, they see the winning team all laying down on the floor, exhausted, tired, out of breath, and no celebrating for winning. The losing team makes it to their locker room, and the coach tells them, "the reason they won, is evident to me, they gave everything on the ice, and left nothing. They have nothing left. That is why they won."

Cole Jennett

This is Wayne Gretzky after losing the 1983 Stanley Cup to the NY Islanders.

Jon Johns

Back in '86, I was assigned to train at Fort Drum with the famed 10th Mountain Division. On our weekend off, a group of us went skiing at lake placid, and saw that hockey rink. It was less than a decade after the 80 Olympics, but the reverence was still present. This is a great movie, and it tries hard to capture the country's reaction to a hockey game, but it really was amazing to face our 'enemy' in a sporting event. Rocky 4 also reflects this period in time, when, during a cold war, the battles were fought in the media, and on sporting events, and in space.

Jon Johns

Thank you! I've heard the antidotebut never the 'original', I'm going to look it up!

brooke atkins

Agreed!! Im lost. Friends seems like something Cassie would love and find hilarious. And after watching fools rush in she said she wanted to watch friends cause she fell inlove with Matthew Perry. Although I don’t ever really see that happening. At least not on the channel.

Cole Jennett

It’s in his autobiography from the 90’s but he’s talked about it many times. Wive’s and team staff were doing all the celebrating while the players were covered in ice packs.

Michael West

Did a lot of work with 10th Mountain in the early 2000s. Amazing soldiers. Great point about the media and sporting events, actually living through the cold war, gas lines and all the things in the beginning credits made this event even more special.

Cole Jennett

@larry, @brooke She really struggles with shows with a laugh track. Generational thing I guess.

Art of Free Speech

@Zane from Canada, for me, what got me about Caruso's Horatio Caine was how he would challenge everyone no matter what they said. He had a seemingly psychotic need to get in the last word. For example, HC: "We'll need to see evidence of that, Mr. XYZ" Mr. XYZ: "Okay, no problem. I keep that video in the top right desk drawer" HC: "We'll see, Mr. XYZ... We'll see...." Mr. XYZ: "Yep... no worries." HC: "You let us determine that Mr. XYZ" Mr. XYZ: "Okay. I get it. You're just doing your job" HC: "Yes... and we will do our job Mr. XYZ" With each answer by HC just dripping with accusation. I just wanted to slap him. LOL

Art of Free Speech

@Brooke No, I know she won't watch it on channel, which is kind of sad, really. It's too long, though. I get it. She doesn't want to bog down the channel (she's already getting grief for Star Trek TNG, and she's seriously abbreviating those seasons, right? Imagine how bad it would be for Friends--though I do believe Friends appeals to a broader audience). It's the same reason she won't Game of Thrones on the channel, even though I think she would love that, too. The thing about not watching Friends, though, is not getting the gajillion pop culture references. If I joke with my friends saying "we were on a break" they get it. If I say "how YOU doin?" they get the joke. If I say "Oh, no" in my best Phoebe, they get it. If I start singing Smelly Cat, they join in. All of that would be lost on her.

Art of Free Speech

@Cole Friends was filmed before a live studio audience, so only very rarely was an actual laugh track used (according to techwithtech dot com, it was only when they had to reshoot a scene very late and an audience was unavailable). I understand you probably knew that and that's what you meant, but I believe there's a distinction to be made.

2-Can

I was in Lake Placid last summer. The rink is open to the public. I still got the chills seeing where it all happened. Banners for each of the players and coaches are hung around the arena. To better understand the country’s mood, you really have to fix on the serial headlines depicted in the opening credits - the ‘national malaise’ as President Carter called it. This team kick-started the national wave of optimism that defined the 80’s.

Terry Yelmene

As Coach Brooks says at the end... the 'miracle' brought about 'belief'! Fantastic Reaction!

Kyle

As an American of mostly Swedish heritage the only thing that would have made it better is if Sweden didn't get trounced by the Soviet Union following the Miracle on Ice, but hey they still got the bronze medal.

Larry Darrell

The odds of a Friends reaction is zero to nil… but could you imagine. I turned my brother onto Friends just before he moved out when we were younger, and I got to watch the whole series again with someone seeing it for the first time. It was Awesome. I wonder if any reactor has ever done a full series reaction to Friends. That would be one hell of a commitment, but I would think it would get a Ton of views. Especially with a Reactor like Cassie. I know this would never happen, but it’s fun to imagine.

@Larry there are a few people doing reactions to Friends. One of them is, I think Nick Reacts on youtube. He's done all the way to the beginning of season 8 at this point. He does it alone (not with his wife) which is good because I can't take his wife, but really like him. He's pretty good, and he's really enjoying it, and gets between 25k and 50k views per 2 episode post. There are a couple of others, but none that I would recommend. All of that said, yeah, it would be an incredible amount of fun were Cassie to tackle it. I really believe she would absolutely love it.

IIRC, if the US lost the gold medal game, they would not have medaled at all (b/c of the first game tie with Sweden).

My entire family are suckers for sports movies; and those based on true stories?! Forgetaboutit! We’re huge fans of McFarland, USA, and every time I see the exit sign on the freeway, I’m compelled to remind whoever I’m with what a good movie that was! Thursday night we streamed The Long Game, based on Mexican-American teens wanting to play organized golf in 1950s Texas. A lovely film, and very enjoyable. They faced nothing but resistance and bigotry. Of course, I’m always encouraging people to watch Secretariat, Cool Runnings, Air and so forth. But I also really like Draft Day, Hustle and Tin Cup.

This movie is so inspirational!! You kept asking who plays McClanahan. It's Nathan West who also played Jan Jan the Cheerleading Man from Bring It On!!

I'm with Cassie on this one. Friends is wayyyy overrated.

Richard Maurer

I'm right there with you. Every time they got some candy it sounded like they were hitting the mic with a rock. Actually drowned out the dialog a couple of times.

How can anybody tell the players apart? They seemed to cast incredibly similar-looking people. A lot of the significant looks back and forth are lost on me, without knowing who anybody is.

You like sports stories, inspiring movies, I strongly recommend you guys watch 'We Are Marshall', it don't get anymore inspiring than that.

All Olympic game scenes were shot at the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, the same place the fight scenes for 'Rocky IV' was filmed.

The Eruzipne goal is the American equivalent to Paul Henderson goal in ‘72. I watched the 72 series here in America and rooted so hard for team Canada. For me those goals were the greatest goals scored for each country.

Ok so we finished this one the four of us. We were impressed. All of us had seen this one before. We loved your reaction. My friend asked me if that's how I felt after the Michigan-Alabama football game. Yeah but I was crying. Almost like this: https://youtube.com/shorts/48aIkIvZ1aY?si=Qa655CXkFx8IQE7D Those chocolate covered cinnamon bears. I don't know where my friend bought his. Maybe Canada? He said he didn't remember. So we learned today Cassie that your hat will be there on Friday. We will be in Banff National Park on Friday. Maybe your cousin can send it to you? This was a great flick and a great reaction from the both of you. All four of us loved your reaction. Which we had your reaction on a 24 inch TV front of a very big 292 inch TV.

Well said George. Both massive achievements. If it's not my home and native land, I always want to see the USA do well .

Another great true story with Kurt Russell that you ladies would love: "Deepwater Horizon" (2016) Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson, John Malkovich

You commented that the Soviet players looked older that the Americans. They were. They were technically "amateurs", but they were all in the Soviet military and their duty assignments were to play for the various (many) Soviet Army, Navy , and Air Force hockey teams.

To miss out on Austin Butler's performance as Elvis because you might not light Tom Hanks in the movie is silly. Kurt Russell praised Austin's performance as Elvis as well.

Sarah-ElvisRose

You guys should definitely react to the Elvis movie from 2022 but did you know that Kurt Russel also starred in the very first Elvis biopic shortly after Elvis' death, in 1979? In fact, Kurt Russell is the only actor who played Elvis Presley who actually met Elvis Presley! Kurt Russel's first time in a movie was It Happened At The World's Fair but he's uncredited!

The Sports Illustrated cover after this game only had a picture of the team celebrating after the win, with an American flag being waved behind the goal. To this day, it is the only cover of the magazine to have no headline. As the photographer said, "It didn't need it. Everyone in America knew what happened."
