Welcome to week 1 of our Trick or treat Poll! This one is the TRICK! Some SCARY but too SCARY options!! The "TREAT" poll will be seperate and still Halloween and scary adjacent but more of a treat? Does that make sense? Like more Carly friendly? So this is the scarier side of things right here! Multiple votes allowed. It will end Friday!

PS-We will do another trick or treat movie poll next week so more titles!

PMS-I will already be watching some spooky movies on the calendar so that is why some are missing from the poll!

Comments

Ben Forrester

Quick edit for ya: “Some SCARY but **not** too scary”

Andrew Heller

Fright night is a greaaatt 80s horror movie

Neil Varma

Cabin in the woods might be fun for you but also the Orginal Friday isn’t that scary

Todzilla

Come on Friday the 13th!!! Cassie has seen Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street, she's got to get this one in to complete the top 3!!

Rosario Cicero

I predict a photo finish for Blair Witch

IngloriousPrime8

Any of these could win and I'd be excited to watch!

Tim Borzi

I wouldn’t recommend Cabin in the Woods for someone who isn’t very seasoned with horror movies.

Raj K. Dixit

Blair Witch is probably more suitable for you Cassie. Not gory, but very suspenseful. Friday the 13th is good but it's obviously a Halloween knockoff with more blood & violence. It's still worth a watch for its interesting plot developments...

Collin Palmer

Cabin in the Woods is definitely the best made and most original film of this poll

Ike

🤣 I wish you all a fantastic PIB October! I’ll be under the bed, hiding.

R F.

Keanu and "Constantine" are a perfect fit for the channel. Especially since there's word of a sequel coming out.

Wrench_In_The_Works

Voting for Constantine because, Keanu Reeves! And because they finally have a Constantine 2 coming! Script is done and it probably won’t come out until 2026 or something like that but it’s been a long time coming and in an interview several years ago Keanu was asked if there was a role he’d ever played that he would love to do a sequel for and Constantine was who he picked that he wanted to revisit so I can’t wait!

Henry Graham

I'd like to suggest The Host (2006) as a great horror movie that should also be quite Carly friendly.

MatthewBrown74m

Paranormal and Monster squad should be on this

Dirk-Jan (DJ)

Fright Night isn't all that scary, if I remember correctly.... 🤔

T.J. Gengler

Anything but Blair Witch please.

Edwin

I hope they include Life 2017 with Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gilianhall. Such a fantastic horror movie! Very simple concept with an incredible execution. One very underrated movie that deserves better!

Mike LL

I think CARRIE is an excellent movie. I"m not sure that Cassie has seen enough genre movies to appreciate all that CABIN IN THE WOODS has to offer. But I would like to suggest again ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (1944) as a Halloween themed comedy and a great Cary Grant movie! (Edit: Of course I didn't read all the text before I commented, and realize that ARSENIC AND OLD LACE would fit nicely in the Treat category and hope it might be in the Treat poll next week!) (Another Edit: Did I say next week? My fave is in the other poll NOW! My heart!!)

Uncle Phoenix

Wow. Cassie is going hard this year, facing fears and crushing obstacles.

Shawn Kildal

My top 10 wish list for October: The Crazies, Dawn of the Dead (2004), The Omen (1976), Fright Night, Promethius, Brightburn, Don't Breathe, The Shallows, and Happy Death Day.

Cole Jennett

I voted for Blair Witch, and Cabin in the Woods. Constantine will probably win, but I got about 30 minutes into and felt that was enough😂

Robert da Spruce

Not really a horror movie fan. But I enjoyed Constantine though. So that one gets my vote

Grégory Gautier

Constantine for me, apparently a second one on the way. and a second choice Split! (James McAvoy / Anya)👌

Daniel Allen
>>150452230

Neither is Constantine, which is out to an early lead. I'm voting for Fright Night because it's easily one of the coolest and funnest movies on this list, and one of the best horror genre classics of the 80s. It's also definitely scarier than Constantine in any case.

Bobilicious

All I want is IT chapter 2. Must close out the series!

Jens Kristensen

New post - still rooting for "Carrie"...

Daniel Allen

C'mon people - Fright Night. That movie just kicks so much "A$$" as Cassie would say. A total must-see 80s classic.

Katie Jackson

Hoping for Friday The 13th or Fright Night. Cabin In The Woods would be good to. Something scary for Cassie for another poll, Candyman, Final Destination or I Know What You Did Last Summer. For a fun one(not scary for Cassie) Happy Death Day.

BibbitduBois

There are some good ones on here, I'm trying to talk myself out of voting for like 6 of them. I loved Fright Night when I was younger, but I'm not sure if it's one of those 80's movies you had to grow up with to enjoy it.

Anthony Perez

I'm not a big fan of horror and especially slasher movies BUT I agree that " Arsenic and Old Lace" would be perfect for Halloween. Or.. failing that "Quiet Place Day One" .

rakesh

Some corkers here. Voted for Constantine and cabin in the woods. Fyi. Constantine TV series is awesome. Only lasted a season but pure gold like swamp thing.

T.J. Gengler

I have to think that Cassie would love WITCHES OF EASTWICK. It has a stellar cast with a fair bit of humor and just scary enough in the right places.

Blake Evans

Alot of these are great choices but really hoping for Cabin in the Woods or Split. Cabin is much more appreciated after you've seen a plethora of horror films as its more of a celebration of horror cliches wrapped in a fairly clever story. Kind of a new age Scream if you will. And Split just for James McAvoy's performance alone. Mind blown.

Richard Maurer

Looking at this list I'm struggling to find anything that qualifies as Scary but too Scary. Nothing in the league of It: Chapter 1 anyway. Don't get me wrong, there are some good choices here, but they're just not that scary.

Brogan

I'm...split between split and cabin in the woods. Both so good....

Steven Perez

One of these days, DARK CITY will be on a poll. 🫤

Jason Chirevas

Constantine is leading? Seriously, guys? Serves me right for reappearing…

Jasbro

Im shocked more people dont want her to watch Blair Witch.

Miguel

Constantine isnt all that scary really, but that may be why its the better choice. No need to traumatize the reactor...

Coen Taylor

Split would be fun to see her react to

Shehab Dawoud

A lot of good ones here, which makes me wonder what is already planned. I have a suspicion (fear) they won’t be that good or scary, which makes it even worse that a non-scary one like Constantine is winning. But who knows, one of the few times where I’m hoping to be proven wrong!

Ian Tonge
>>150452253

I never understood the hype around Blair Witch. I saw it in the theatre when it came out and the entire group I went with, including myself, found it boring, tedious and not the least bit scary. I haven't watched it since. Plenty of people seem to enjoy it though, so maybe it's worth giving it a second chance? I wouldn't object to it, but it would certainly be my last pick of the bunch.

Matt Rose

CABIN IN THE WOODS all the way. Lots of good ones in this poll, though. FRIGHT NIGHT is a hoot.

Tina P
>>150454164

I voted for it. A total classic, I saw it in the cinema when it came out. I was young and found it very creepy 🙂

Cliff Endicott

I love all these movies, but "Fright Night" would be an awesome reaction.

Matt Rose

If CONSTANTINE wins this (and I'd be fine with that), I'd like to see it paired up with THE PROPHECY so that Cassie can see (arguably) the two best depictions of Lucifer in cinema.

Just Plain Bob

“Carrie” is vastly overrated. It wasn’t scary forty years ago when I first watched it and it isn’t scary now. I don’t even think it belongs in the horror genre. It’s more of a coming of age/melodrama.

clutchkman

Is "PMS" a joke? Because that's pretty funny. PS- I voted for Fright Night PMS-I also voted for Carrie ;)

Greg Florez

Let’s go Constantine !

Bill Maurer

Original Friday the 13th and Cassie's first (and probably only encounter) with none other than Jason Vorhees

Bill Maurer
>>150452253

One of the most overrated movies ever. Wasted 80 + minutes of my life on that

Just Plain Bob
>>150452208

Great, great movie. Really doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Plus it’s a family film!

LittleGalaxyBoy

Oh damn, Constantine!!! It's been a while since we watched a live action DC film on the channel. Pretty sure the last live action DC reaction was The Batman, Mask of the Phantasm being the last DC project in general. Though I have to say that Constantine: City of Demons, the animated movie, is a much better film, with a stronger depiction of the character. But if you go into the 2005 live-action movie with zero knowledge of Constantine, you’ll still enjoy it. It’s just very different from the comics in how Constantine looks, acts, and sounds. But it's a unique take on the character just like I said a very differant one to the comics.

Just Plain Bob
>>150452124

Agree. It’s another of those that’s best enjoyed if you’ve seen some of the films it references, the most obvious being “Evil Dead.”

Clay F

I will skip the reaction to Constantine (2005). Constantine (2005) has the beauty Rachel Weisz and cool aspects, but is confusing/incoherent. I voted Cabin in the Woods (2011). I voted Carrie (1976) b/c part of our culture. I voted Blair Witch Project (1999) even though I didn't really like Blair when released -- yet, was novel at the time.

Just Plain Bob
>>150456817

Yep. And it’s lived off that jump scare for almost fifty years. It’s actually a well made, well acted movie. When I say “overrated”, I’m talking about as a horror movie. It’s simply not scary and I don’t think it was meant to be. It’s more of a coming of age film, though very dark. Kinda like “Stand By Me”, which makes sense because they’re both based on Stephen King stories (although very different at the same time).

Walter

I'm all about Constantine and Cabin In The Woods. Also, Cassie loves Keanu, so it works out

Silver Machine

Oh, Something Wicked This Way Comes! Great story by Ray Bradbury. I used to watch it on the Disney Channel back in the day. Perfect choice for “scary but not too scary.”

Toe Cutter

Some good movies! Can you find "The Prowler" 1981? It's a good, underrated slasher from director Joseph Zito and make up icon Tom Savini.

John Callahan

Many good ones here, though not Carly-friendly. Voting Carrie because the entire cast is excellent but clearly Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie turn in career-high performances. I also though this movie was much better than the novel, something you can't say about many Steven King adaptations. Cabin in the Woods is wierdly fun. Still hoping for Near Dark. Or have you already reacted to that one? Bill Paxton (though not much like his Twister role) is awesome, as is the entire cast.

Jeffrey Joll

Something Wicked is a good creepy movie.

John Callahan

You really haven't seen Blair Witch Project? You (and Carly) may be the last two holdouts in the entire world.

Clay F
>>150459592

Currently in a distant last place. Is the book better than the movie? I read Ray Bradbury stuff when I was a kid.

Brent Petty
>>150459974

It's okay. Paranormal Activity is a better example of the found footage genre.

Jacob Balaam

Eh. None of those are really that good.

David Freese
>>150459974

Actually I've never watched it either never got the appeal of lost footage movies.

Brent Petty

Hopefully Train to Busan and Panic Room are under consideration. Those Carly could handle. I don't even consider PR a horror. Just a great suspense thriller.

Clay F
>>150457776

Yeah, most of us haven't read the comics. Yet, I like seeing comments on the underlying comics of movies.

David Freese

I can't believe how few votes A Quiet Place is getting. Love both movies but I like or love most of the films here so let's see what wins. P.s. one of the few I don't like is Constantin because his story is done better in other media.

Jasbro
>>150454164

Lucky, sadly i was too young to see it at the cinema, but i watched it everytime it came on TV.

T.L.A
>>150461004

Agreed. Most are not that scary or scary at all. I like Constantine but would not rate as scary. The ones that are just not that good. Blair Witch usally just gives me motion sickness and Cabin in the Woods just not good.

Just Plain Bob
>>150452253

“Blair Witch” made me vaguely sick to my stomach from the shaky cam and that’s it. Such a boring, overrated film. Not even a little bit scary. It’s been touted as the first “found footage” film but it didn’t even accomplish that much. “Cannibal Holocaust” preceded it by 20 years.

mikethemotormouth

Lots of things I want to see on the channel but nothing even close to scary. So where's It Chapter Two??

Just Plain Bob

I’d really like to see a poll of Canadian horror films for Scary But Not Too Scary. Films could include (but not limited to): *Ginger Snaps *My Bloody Valentine (original) *The Changeling (1980) *Black Christmas *Pontypool *Cube *Terror Train (starring Jamie Lee Curtis) *Videodrome

Dean Holt

Some good movies on here, but voted for Constantine. I know I’m probably in the minority but I actually think the Friday the 13th remake from 2009 is so much better that the original as it just doesn’t hold up very well now. But if you are going to dip your toe into it eventually you obviously have to start with that one.

John Callahan
>>150459974

I agree, Paranormal Activity is much better - serious creepy factor. I just thought everyone had seen Blair Witch Project. I personally preferred the sequel non-ff Blair Witch better.

Carlos Molina

I voted for Friday the 13th. Hopefully one day they’ll have Childs Play, Candyman or Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the poll.

Dan M

Cabin in the Woods…oh boy. This might be a “Ben, get in here now!” reaction. So excited to see Fright Night on this poll! And so disappointed that’s its doing so poorly. I’m begging you…make it a Popcorn Pick of the Month. Such a fun movie, great practical effects, and some nice scares without being too scary. I think even Carly would enjoy this movie. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

DM DC

If Constantine wins I recommend viewing with Carley. It's not too gory and it is Keanu Reeves. I think you both will like it. Cabin in the woods is great, but it's pretty gory. While I think Carley would really like the characters, I feel she may mis a lot of the film from covering her eyes or looking away.

Toe Cutter

I can understand that and everyone has their own opinion. For example, The Shining, from 1980, almost everyone I know like that movie. It's okay, I'll give it a B, but it's not an A+ to me, sorry.🤷 I'm in my 60s and I've seen all of those 80s horror movies in the theater, including The Shining. The original Friday the 13th blew me away back then and I saw all of the 80s Friday the 13th movies when they first came out. So I do have a fondness for them. You are entitled to your opinion, just like me, screw what others think.

Terry Yelmene

Oh NO! Now comes that part of the year when I have to forget about watching reaction videos for 31 days. I really, really dislike this wild obsession with horror (it's horrible). Then again, I've never seen 'Blair Witch' even though I recall being intrigued by all the scuttlebutt it caused when it came out... so... I voted.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Constantine is just not a good movie and I truly believe Cassie will hate it When my friends and I along with several horror websites we're putting together the Top 100 horror movies of all time that one was immediately thrown out. It probably wouldn't even make the Top 200.

Clay F
>>150461542

I have similar sentiment. I voted A Quiet Place. I don't like Constantine b/c mumbo jumbo. I voted Cabin in hope that Cabin will overtake Constantine.

Clay F
>>150459974

I am not a fan of Blair Witch Project but it is the original -- something to watch b/c of the historical aspect of it being novel and somewhat impactful when released.

Joe
>>150459592

It's a very good watch IMO, sadly it will never get high on any polls.

Joe
>>150455026

Constantine will be plenty scary for Cassie (haha), and she already mentioned in one of the premiere chats it was "highly likely" this October.

Above Average Dave

Am I the only one who saw BLAIR WITCH in the theater and wanted my money back? Plus a separate award of funds for having wasted that much time out of my life?

Joe
>>150453536

Richard, she almost for sure has It:2 already scheduled. Constantine will be plenty scary for her and a fun watch, for me anyway.

Stranger2Reality
>>150452038

Yeah it's not doing well in this poll, but I absolutely love Fright Night. Hopefully Cassie sees it someday.

Joe
>>150452159

Cassie, you have toughened up right? Never mind...I forgot about "War of the Worlds"(haha).

Stranger2Reality
>>150452294

I really liked Life as well. It's somewhat derivative, like Alien meets the Blob, but it was done really well and is quite effective and creepy.

mikethemotormouth

Cabin heavily references the Evil Dead lore so there's that but also features nods to The Ring/Ringu, Hellraiser, The Hills Have Eyes, Cube...need I go on?

Clay F
>>150465185

I am 61 and not a horror movie kind of guy, but I think The Shining is a work of art. I saw Friday the 13th (1980) in the theater when released but don't really remember it. I was able to get in even though age 16.

William Bryan

I wanna see Cassie watch Strangeland. 🤣🤣

V M

Fright Night 1985!!!!!!

Clay F
>>150453232

Looks like Fright Night (1985) doesn't stand a chance in the poll. I wouldn't mind seeing Cassie react to Fright Night (1985).

Don

I can't click a choice for some reason, but I pick"Carrie"

Clay F
>>150452313

Good point about CABIN IN THE WOODS but a positive is better choice than CONSTANINE.

Marcos

Constantine is 47% fresh on RT. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Don

Cabin in the Woods is fun too!

Thin White Duke

She won't get Cabin in the Woods, the fewer horror films the viewer has seen the less effective it is

Thin White Duke
>>150452038

Yeah it did poorly on Jen Murray's poll too. We'll get to it eventually, Cassie would love it

My_Cousin_Mose
>>150471154

I sometimes get that. For me it works by clicking areas right next to the box you want to vote for.

Thin White Duke
>>150452124

Yes the more horror films you've seen the more movie references and tropes you will recognise

Thin White Duke
>>150452230

Fright Night has some very good gore. Also some people won't pick up on the underlying comedic tone of the film

Rick Moreno

It won’t win, but “Something Wicked” is just the kind of creepy that would work for Cassie without her cowering under the blanket the whole time! 😊

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

Carrie was so iconic. You're kinda obligated to see that one just for the memes

John

Carrie is too bloody I think for Carly, the newer remake sucks milady, don't waste you re time on it. of the others I think you'd have it easier with Constantine than Cabin in the Woods.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)
>>150465311

Questions to ask? #1 How Original was it? None It was like The Exorcist meets Demons meet Night Of The Demons meets The Devil's Advocate. #2 How Scary was it? The Keanu Reeves movie Knock Knock (2015) was much scarier # 3. How did it influence pop culture? After the second one it was largely forgotten while Friday 13th (1980) Carrie (1976) it's influence still goes on today #4. Box Office Results, it's saving grace $75 million in US and Canada $230 million world wide #5. Fans score, This will go in the win column with Popcorn Meter 72% IMDB score of 7.0 Cabin In The Woods (2011) made our list so did Friday 13th (1980) and Carrie (1976) was the highest ranked I think at #15

Wesley White

FRIDAY THE 13th because it's kinda cheesy but fun at the same time, FRIGHT NIGHT a true 80's vampire classic, and CONSTANTINE because hey Keanu Reeves, what more do you need lol🤣 Those are my votes for this poll 😁👍

John

Wish the Legend of Hell House had hit one of the polls

JimJames
>>150471588

You're right. 227 movie critics gave it an average score of %46, conveniently left out that 250000+ regular people have it's avage score at %72.

Chris Thom

A lot of good ones. But I think Blair Witch would make for a great reaction on this particular channel.

Chris Thom
>>150470451

Not sure if I remember that one. Was that from the same people who did The Collector series?

Chris Thom
>>150456541

A classic. Always have some extra nostalgia for that one because it came out really close to the day I was born.

Chris Thom
>>150453232

I think most would enjoy it. It's got some of that good Rear Window/Disturbia neighbor intrigue that works really well.

Timothy Burrows

I sent you Constantine so long ago so this had better win.

Mike LL
>>150459974

Hey, I've never watched Blair Witch, never wanted to, and I don't feel I've missed anything!

Terry Yelmene
>>150465185

Clay! I'm 66 and have seen plenty of horror movies even though I don't care for most... 'however' as someone who loves the 'art' of great movies... for me... 'The Shining' is the very best of the genre. BTW, Cassie's react for 'The Shining' is 'classic' too.

Mike Lemon
>>150470451

I didn't think anyone else had heard of Strangeland. I'm the only one who has recommended it on the app, so if you can you may want to give it a vote on there.

William Bryan
>>150470451

Kind of a joke on my part, kinda not. As hilarious as Cassie's reaction to that would be, it'd mess her up, especially since she's got a son who's almost a teenager.

shaneth138

Constantine sucks come on guys. She’s going to hate it more than she hated Highlander. Why do the worst movies on the list always win these polls? Underworld is winning the other one too smh. I gotta unsubscribe. I have watched like 2-3 things Cassie has watched in the last 4 months.

Shawn Kildal

I want to recommend Drag Me to Hell & The Mist too, but I just can't bring myself to that to Cassie

Miguel Tapia

Please add the Devil’s advocate if you haven’t seen it

Shehab Dawoud

Agree with the people suggesting 'The Devil's Advocate'. That is the ONLY Keanu horror movie we should be getting.

diego kontarovsky

i actually prefer the 2011 remake of fright night to the original

John A
>>150482102

Because the large majority of patreon followers are weirdo dorks so naturally their taste in movies is cringe at best

John A
>>150478257

As far as movie reactions go Blair Witch tops this poll EASILY. Instead she's gonna watch that absolutely forgettable trash Constantine

John A
>>150471588

"regular people" is a bit of a stretch when talking about people that loved Constantine

John A
>>150467273

Such a guilty pleasure for me. I don't know why that movie just does it for me

John A
>>150465216

No one cares that you dislike something so many people enjoy. No one. You're sooooooooooooooooooo different we're all SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO impressed

John A
>>150465185

Stephen King is probably the one single solitary person on the planet with the same opinion as you

John A
>>150464062

These wimps aren't watching any of those movies. Most fragile women on the planet

Steve Grad

I would like to see you and Carrrie watch the movie - The Ring

Shehab Dawoud
>>150467273

Come on.. the scene where you hear the kids in the woods at night is terrifying! In general, fear of the unknown and unseen is a great and scary concept.

John A
>>150459974

You either love or hate Blair Witch. I love it. Despite what the people that hate it think about it, it would still make for a good reaction channel movie

John A
>>150459777

I need to watch it again then. I remember watching it right after I read the book which I thoroughly enjoyed and not liking it at all, maybe I should give it another try

Philip Alan

Halloween 2! I mean... come on!! (maybe it's on her list already)

Clay F
>>150482102

I am incongruent with the voting patron plurality on the channel, as indicated by the resutls of these two trick/treat polls.

JimJames
>>150471588

The only thing better than seeing that Constantine is winning is reading all the comments from grown men whining and crying about it.

Clay F

Metacritic 50%, RT 46% = CONSTANTINE (2005) Metacritic 72%, RT 92% = CABIN IN THE WOODS (2011) Metacritic 86%, RT 93% = CARRIE (1976) Metacritic 80%, RT 86% = BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999)

Paul Stelter

Carrie is so very scary, but it's also very sweet in that you can't help but like her.

Toe Cutter
>>150465185

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the movie. It's the book I prefer. The movie comes in second place, next to "The Thing" and I'm talking about the 80s version, not that crap from 2011.🤨

Bruce Reid

Rec (2007) is a great scary movie, not a lot of people seem to talk about

shaneth138
>>150478257

The fact that we got a chance to have her watch an actual scary movie like Blair Witch but got Constantine instead is the ultimate SMH moment.

John A
>>150471588

For the first time in your life your tastes are validated! By a handful of nerds in a small sample size of people that love a movie universally hated by everyone else. I'm glad you get to feel special for a least one little moment in your life

John A
>>150461542

Some of us just really hate Jim Halpert and can't take him seriously in any role

John A

Good lord Constantine is bad. I love me some Keanu, but it doesn't even belong on this list in the first place and if you're gonna watch another Keanu movie it should be Hardball before anything else, but The Devil's Advocate is far more appropriate for this poll and a far better movie than Constantine

mikethemotormouth
>>150493179

Agreed it doesn't belong on the list. Still one of my favorites with Keanu and still need to see it on the channel.

David Freese

Well Chris i usually don't hop from one reactor to the next so I haven't seen it reacted too. But hey you be you.

How can there be a Trick or Treat poll WITHOUT including the best Halloween-themed movie ever: Trick ‘r Treat (2007)!?!? I know it’s less known because it didn’t get a theatrical release, but everyone who has watched it agrees it’s a Halloween classic because it’s all about Halloween traditions. There couldn’t be a more perfect Halloween movie. It’s worth making an exception for so PLEASE Cassie watch it this year, and invite Carly too because it’s scary-but-not-too-scary.

Constantine isn't THAT bad but you're right, The Devil's Advocate is a way better movie in all regards.

Fantastic movie that absolutely deserves a reaction. I just hope that Cassie reacts to it before the Godawful remake “Quarantine.”

Terry Yelmene

Thank you John A for your 'distinction' acknowledgement... I appreciate that. But still... I'll miss you all (and Cassie) during this month's long 'base exercise' you are...... "enjoying"?

Richard Maurer

Cassie needs to be well versed in horror tropes before she watches that one. She's getting there, but still has a ways to go.

Just Plain Bob
>>150459974

@Mike LL One reason you may feel that you didn’t miss anything is because you didn’t. It’s a slow, boring, poorly executed and poorly acted movie. And it’s not scary. At all. The only thing it has going for it is people’s mistaken belief that it was the first “found footage” film. It wasn’t. “Cannibal Holocaust” came out twenty years earlier. For that matter, there were several Sasquatch movies that came out in the 70s that were faux documentaries (first cousin to found footage films). And “Ghostwatch” came out seven years earlier. “Blair Witch” wasn’t original, it wasn’t unique and it definitely wasn’t good.

You must be a very miserable person with a sad, empty life that you feel the need to make multiple posts just because you don't like a movie. it also says something about your character, that you have a complete lack of respect for not only the channel owner but the other patrons. Cassie created the poll, Cassie put the movie on it and the majority of patrons are in favour of it. But like I said I am very much enjoying your little meltdown of bitching and calling everyone else nasty names, because again you don't like a movie on a poll.....hahahahahaha

Richard Maurer
>>150452071

Worst movie on this list, imo. Not scary, not interesting, or clever, and, to make things worse it features real-life animal abuse. No thanks.

Richard Maurer
>>150453536

I'm aware that she'll probably watch It:2. I was commenting that none of the films here are in the same league. The movie I voted for, Fright Night, is probably the scariest movie here, which isn't saying much.

Yeah, we know who the "killer" was in that move ... I am referring to the .... scene ... in the canoe. Not trying to give away spoilers

Aaron Ritchie

Seriously don’t watch Constantine, you will hate it.

Kniggit

Adding my voice to the group pointing out that Cabin in the Woods gets better the more horror movies you have seen. It's like watching Deadpool without watching any X-men movies to compare to some recent watches.

Peter Andrews

Have you ever reacted to The Exorcist from 1973? Perhaps Bride of Frankenstein from 1935? Perhaps Black Sabbath from circa 1967 with Boris Karloff? Just a few thoughts.

John A

Richard Maurer

Part the problem is what gets chosen for the polls, but you could rightly say that is the fault of the patrons too. I see so many recommendations in the comments sections that leave me confused, "you really like that movie?" .

If someone had to sum up 70s and 80s horror into one movie thats Cabin in the Woods

Richard Maurer

I'm even less of a fan The Shining than you. Wasn't impressed (or scared) when I saw it when it first came out, not impressed now. Whenever "name" directors try to make horror movies they end up making good movies, but not good horror movies. The best example of this is Francis Coppola's Dracula, which was more a romance than anything else. Doctor Sleep is a much better horror movie than The Shining.

Richard Maurer
>>150465216

@John - Thanks for saying this. the only thing I'd mention is - after letting us all know how much he hates horror he still voted in the poll? I hate rom-coms, so when Feb. rolls around I just don't vote. Why would someone vote in a poll they care nothing about?

IIRC, Exorcist is banned because she dislikes the "possessed child" genre in general.

Miguel Tapia

Chris Thom

Great film. One of the best movie monologues ever...and by Al Pacino to boot.

Miguel Tapia

Ok if Hereditary is a no go, could Midsommar be considered? It’s not so much horror as just weird. With a little horror sprinkled in.

Richard Maurer
>>150503571

I could argue that Ready Player One wasn't worth seeing even if she had seen the necessary movies.

Richard Maurer

The two leaders are both a problem. Constantine is not really a horror movie, also not very good. Cabin is a great movie, but Cassie won't get a lot of the humor, having not seen many horror films. What to vote for?

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Friday 13th and Carrie are the two influential horror movies of all time. I don't want to here anything about rip offs. There was a least 50 movies that ripped off Friday 13th. Halloween just ripped off Black Christmas. Friday 13th spawned 11 sequels and they are currently making a series for Peacock. Carrie (1976) they are now doing in theater Piper Laurie was nominated for An Academy Award for her role in it. Constantine was not original, not scary and largely forgotten about. Oh I know why because it's loosely based on the DC/Vertigo comic book Hellblazer graphic novels. It's a dweeby horror movie. No wonder it wasn't even remotely considered my friends just texted me saying it was a superhero horror movie. They called it a horror movie for nerds. Now it all makes sense. If you are going to a comic book horror movie Why not do Venom instead? That's a million times better. Besides the Holy Lance is in The Imperial Treasury in Vienna.

Dan M
>>150464902

It’s definitely got some humor in it, which will give Cassie a breather here and there. But I think the scares take it above the Scary But Not Too Scary threshold.

Joe Monroe

Why in the world is Constantine winning? And Cassie, you need to watch Friday the 13th, a few of them, before watching Cabin in the Woods.

mikethemotormouth
>>150522535

Meh the Friday the 13th movies aren't nearly so essential to Cabin's plot as much as Evil Dead, Hills Have Eyes, Cube, etc. Besides, I've zero interest in a Friday the 13th reaction after Scream

Larry Darrell
>>150482102

Better grouping in the polls could help, such as Decades. Constantine and Underworld should have been in the same poll, if they HAD to be a part of any poll. Hell, even according to these Trick or Treat poll classifications, Constantine should’ve been with Underworld in the other poll.

Richard Maurer
>>150520832

Well, I meant something that actually has a chance of winning ;-). Also a lot good horror films have been made after 2000, but the majority of them are not from the big studios.

Patrick Crippen
>>150453626

The fact that it's based on true events is what makes the movie so fascinating to me. I'm not a believer in possession, but still a scary film without any gore

Mark Vaderr
>>150452071

Agreed. Friday the 13th has a couple good scares and some impressive special effects, but is considerably weak compared to Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street.

Mark Vaderr

Mark Vaderr

Somehow cabin in the woods flew under my radar, gonna have to watch that after seeing all these comments so hopefully it pulls ahead of Constantine

Mannygogou

Cabin is so sophomoric 😅 I mean it's bad 😊 in a mediocre sort-of way. I mean lukewarm. Add smiley face 🙂

Evil Darth Carl

Friday the 13th is the movie that really set the tone for all the “gore porn” and slasher genre movies. It should be seen for that reason alone. You won’t like it because of its nature but it would make for an interesting reaction. NOT Carly safe lol

Evil Darth Carl

And as others have said Cabin in the Woods should really be seen only after the Evil Dead, Friday the 13th and a few others

Larry Darrell
>>150520832

Constantine and Cabin in the Woods are clearly going to win. Very doubtful that’s going to change. All you can do is support the films that should properly be there. I know I included Cabin in the Woods in my suggestion list, that I separated by decades. Wasn’t thinking about it overtaking better earlier films. I agree it would be better for Cassie to see more different kinds of horror films before, but at the rate she watches horror films… I guess that is the better one to watch. Perhaps a knowledge of different kinds of horror films might be enough, even though she hasn’t seen them. Although, thinking now, she might not have that knowledge. She will probably not understand what is actually happening in Cabin in the Woods, and probably watch it as a normal horror film. Lots of explaining in the comments afterwards is going to be required.

Joe
>>150478132

Good film, very entertaining. Would never finish high on a poll though.

Joe
>>150464922

I would be shocked and amazed if Cassie ever got Carly to agree to watch Constantine (haha).

Clay F
>>150489781

Helpful to me. I tend to agree with the consensus among critics. Here, for example, Constantine is mumbo jumbo and that is reflected in the critic consensus. I always decide for myself. I consider a lot of information, as well as my actual viewing of the movie if I have watched it, and in the end, I decide for myself. I posted Metacritic and RT scores for those who find that information generally helpful as one consideration.

Story Archer

The Village!!! How is The Village not on here? I've been pushing it for the past two years!!! Star-studded cast, incredible music - it's a love story pretending to be a scary movie, you've got to give this film a chance!

you can't possibly believe that there is anything about Midsommar that Cassie would enjoy. She'd probably need therapy for a month.

Wow, Cabin is closing in on Constantine. Currently, Cabin losing by only 4 votes. I am crossing my fingers that Cabin overtakes Constantine which is mumbo jumbo. Any lack of context that Cassie experiences with Cabin due to her not being a horror-movie expert would be nothing compared to the massive confusion she would experience with Constantine. Looks like the two choices are her reacting to: (1) Constantine; or (2) Cabin without watching older horror movies people are suggesting she watch before reacting to Cabin. I prefer (2).

Clay F
>>150529764

Carrie (1976) is part of our culture. Blair Witch was also novel and significant when released. I prefer Cabin, Blair Witch, and Carrie over Contantine.

Clay F
>>150522535

Joe, my guess is the realistic choices are really her: (1) reacting to Cabin without watching the movies you suggest or (2) reacting to Constantine. I prefer (1)

Joe

We get it man, you don't like Constantine (haha).

Richard Maurer
>>150520832

first, to be clear, I'm not planning on taking my vote away from Fright Night, there's no reason to anyway. But in a situation like this where two films are far ahead I usually vote for the lesser of two evils. And my choice would be easy (Cabin) except that the idea of Cassis sitting there trying to get jokes she has no frame of reference for really bothers me. In the end I think I'll not vote for either one. This poll will have a disappointing ending for me no matter which one wins.

Larry Darrell
>>150520832

Agreed. For one, Constantine and Underworld should have been in the same poll, if they had to be in any poll… or left out completely in my opinion. Both polls a little disappointing from my point of view. Maybe next week will be better.

Uncle Phoenix

IF I really wanted Cassie to increase the intensity of her film choices; my next recommendation would be for her to start Carly on her own trek through Band Of Brothers. Cassie could answer all of Carly’s questions and it would increase her own awareness of her growing courage and give her the foundation to go even deeper into the Adrenaline and Dopamine soaked section of the internet’s virtual Blockbuster.

Mark Vaderr

It won't matter. Remember when she watched "Scream"? There were many people who said she would love it because of all the references she would get from past movies. Turns out, she didn't care about the references, or hardly noticed them, because the movie was terrifying for her.

Horror movies (“horror” in a broad sense) to consider for future polls: *BLACK SWAN (2010). A psychological horror. IMDb = 8.0 --Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis *LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008) [Horror/Romance] [Swedish romantic horror] --"Sinister but gorgeous and compelling." --"Exquisitely crafted." *DONNIE DARKO (2001). A young Jake Gyllenhaal. Set in 1988. --A wild, mesmerizing, jarring movie. IMDb = 8.0 *REQUIEM FOR A DREAM (2000). [Horror/Drama]. IMDb = 8.3 --Jennifer Connelly, Jared Leto. *THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO (2011). Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara *TAKE SHELTER (2011). [Horror/Action] Michael Shannon, Jessica Chastain *THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (1975) *TRAIN TO BUSAN (2016) [Action/Horror] [Korean] *ROSEMARY'S BABY (1968) (if not on Cassie's no-way list)

Biggman83

Why are all the horror movies doing so badly? Cabin in the woods doesnt deserve to win. The whole point of this channel/Patreon was to push cassie’s boundaries on films, and for her to experience different genres. Horror is horror not Mickey’s not so scary!

Shehab Dawoud
>>150640241

I think some people are trying way too hard to get in her good books and become one of her favorites. So I guess trying to shelter and warn her about certain movies is what they think is the best way to achieve that. Besides sending gifts and whatnot, ofc.

It was released on A&E as part of the movie's promotion and depicted as 100% real... I'm pretty sure it was released on the DVD as well, and it was so well done. They probably should have made it the first half of the movie and then cut the 'found footage' aspect of it down by a bit to balance it out. If anyone hasn't seen it, I can't recommend it highly enough. It covers hundreds of years of local history/mythology in the region and takes the movie from a creepy novelty to a genuine experience.

I made multiple comments about getting some real horror this year and after last year with movies like The Thing and It: Chapter 1 i had a good feeling about this year. But it seems like my comments were ignored and we're slipping right back to where we were at the beginning. And it certainly doesn't help that every horror hater is constantly recommending every vaguely horror adjacent film they can think of to take space away from real horror movies. And unfortunately it seems that tactic is working.

Mike Lemon
>>150640241

"Why are all the horror movies doing so badly?" Because they aren't good (specifically Blair Witch and Friday)? Then a fairly popular "main stream" movie was included, the end was predictable. Plus, I voted for Carrie, so that one is right out. @Joe - "Squeaky wheel gets the grease!" I've been squeaking for a while, still no grease. @Richard - It pt. 2 is still possible, the Fly is all but confirmed, and fingers are crossed for Saw. We'll have to see before judging the "season". "every horror hater is constantly recommending every vaguely horror adjacent film they can think" That goes for every genre. How many "how is *that* movie winning" comments are there? And it is usually some movie with 500 other reactions.

This is why I push for Ringu over The Ring. Unfortunately, I've only seen one reactor do Ringu first, that was VKunia. I think it's mostly Americans who are unwilling or unable to read subtitles, along with some xenophobia, that cause remakes to be pushed all the time.

Bruce Reid
>>150491935

The eye (2002) would be another one that's super unnerving, again another poor Hollywood remake that couldn't replicate it.

Bruce Reid
>>150491935

I alway felt Rec did the found footage thing better than The Blair Witch Project.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Constantine should have never been on this list. Simply put it's a superhero movie. That's my problem with it. There was Constantine The superhero of DC comics who this which is what this is about. However there was Constantine The great the Roman Emperor of the 4th century. That's a story not worth talking about.

Richard Maurer
>>150640241

I pretty much consider The Fly a forgone conclusion, and maybe It:2 also. But that shouldn't mean the other polls get to be filled with weak and/or bad choices. And while I agree people recommend inappropriate films for polls all the time., in the case of horror polls it's way more prevalent and in some some cases a deliberate attempt to subvert the poll.

Richard Maurer
>>150519208

"you can't possibly believe that there is anything about Midsommar that Cassie would enjoy" Why would we worry if she's going to enjoy a horror film? If we did that would rule out most of the good ones. "She'd probably need therapy for a month" yeah, riiiiight.

Yaisu

I'm sad Split isn't winning. James McAvoy was phenomenal and deserved an oscar for his performance.

Richard Maurer
>>150452124

I never watched the Scream reaction (because I hate Scream) but the Idea of anyone being scared by that movie befuddles me. One of the least scary big name "horror" films I've ever seen,

Clay F
>>150705832

Yeah, near last place. I read that the excellent performance by McAvoy made the movie.

Doug Fisher
>>150640241

You have to remember this is not just for Cass but for Carly too... hence the "Scary but not too scary." Carly's tolerance level is not as developed and Cassie's.

Doug Fisher
>>150634596

Come on Clay... "Black Swan" and "TRHPS"?! That is the broadest of broad senses.

Joe
>>150702707

I believe Cassie wants to watch Constantine, and it should make for an entertaining reaction. I don't care if Cassie likes or dislikes the film, she didn't like "Big Trouble in Little China" or "The Fifth Element", but still entertaining reactions.

Joe
>>150640241

Mike, stay "squeaky", hope is not lost....yet.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)
>>150702707

I just got a tongue lashing so I am sorry about the earlier message. I was wrong. Yes I do make mistakes. However I think you should look out for her. You called them entertaining reactions even though she hated it? So she didn't think it was very entertaining. Why not do things for her? It's just a thought of course. However..... You should vote on whatever you feel is right. It's not for me to judge. Constantine is not even a horror movie it's a superhero movie disguised as a horror movie. It can happen it's easy to fool people. It heck it fooled me.

China Andronicus
>>150693972

I fully support that. Everyone needs more Rutger Hauer in their lives and as always, he is phenomenal in that film.

John A
>>150702707

Lmao you hypocrisy about selfishness is absolutely wild. I don't want her to watch it either but I'm not a hypocrite about it

John A
>>150562179

I don't really understand what needs to be explained. I think it's better and creepier with less info anyway

John A
>>150519208

Therapy? Come on. I know you're probably exaggerating your point but you guys really need to stop coddling her. It's just a movie, she can handle it. She just needs people to stop telling her these movies will do that to her.

John A
>>150482102

No, I'll say as I please if that's how I feel. If you're too sensitive to handle it then you can go crawl into your safe space

Richard Maurer
>>150640241

@Doug Fisher - You misread Cassie's intro. The Treat poll is Carly friendly, the Trick poll is not.

Richard Maurer
>>150519208

@John A - if every movie that was supposedly going to send her to therapy actually did Cassie would be under 24 hr. psychiatric care

Clay F
>>150634596

Doug, The Black Swan is characterized as a psychological horror. Good point about TRHPS but at least it has “horror” in the movie name.

Allen W. McDonnell

Fright Night deserves more love, it is comedic enough for Cassie without being just slapstick.

Doug Fisher
>>150640241

@Richar Maurer I didn't misread it... I didn't even read it. XD I just skimmed the Treat poll and assumed this one was similar... and you know what they say about assuming. So I messed up twice really. Thanks for pointing it out.

Doug Fisher
>>150489781

@Joe If Clay didn't have Metacritic, RT, etc. he wouldn't have an opinion at all. The dude must be seriously lacking in confidence to feel the need to constantly post review site scores, sites that are tainted and skewed.

Doug Fisher
>>150483768

But is "The Devil's Advocate" really a horror movie? I would classify it more in the fantasy thriller genres. Much in the same vein as "Fallen".

Clay F
>>150489781

Ha ha. Doug, you are a freak. Why are you so scared of data? Living in your isolated bubble. Freak. Why so paranoid about reputable sources being tainted and skewed? What other conspiracy theories do you buy into? 9/11 was an inside job? The 1969 moon landing was fake? Deep state? Don't tell me you are a flat earth guy.

Richard Maurer
>>150640241

@Doug - Considering the choices on this poll I can see how you could mistake it for being Carly friendly though.

Shehab Dawoud
>>150483768

I’d say it’s more of a horror than Constantine. Besides, so many movies here have been on polls or even won when they had no business doing so. So, it’s just the norm really.

Thanks. Helene wobbled east just before hitting the coast, and saved us from the worst of the damage (just 21 hours w/out power and two days w/out internet). But the poor people living in Taylor county got hit with their 3rd hurricane in 13 months - without a single hurricane to hit them in over 170 years.

Doug Fisher
>>150640241

@Richard Still, I usually try to add insightful or at least well informed comments and I didn't do that in this case, but thanks for the pass. ;) I have always found your comments insightful and fair. You are one of the good contributors to the community. Cheers!

Richard Maurer
>>150640241

Thanks , Doug. I think in general people are mostly reasonable here (yourself included) and I enjoy hearing their opinions, even when I disagree with them. Some come in and try to be buttheads, but they usually get shut down pretty quickly. The only ones who really bother me are overprotective ones, overprotective to the point where they become creepy, who seem overly concerned with keeping Cassie away from movies they have deemed unfit for her. Also anyone who seems overly obsessed with either of the sisters (or both). Those people really skeeve me out.

quentin bentein

I realy hope constantine 2 isn't just a troll

Average White Man

CONSTANTINE is out in front? Oh boy. Is it the millenials voting for that?

Marcos

We need instant runoff voting / rank choice. Folks change votes to Cabin in the Woods!

Walter
>>150702707

truly bizarre posts. I've stopped trying to guess what Cassie will like and what she won't. She's watched films I was sure she'd hate (The Thing, for example) that she ended up enjoying. The point of her channel, as I understand it, is to experience new things.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)
>>150640241

Honestly a great chat going on here. Cabin In The Woods is more comical, then scary? Although that cabin did remind of the cabin from The Evil Dead. My friends and I were so blown away by Cable In The Woods. It's original, it's somewhat scary. It's ranked high in fan polls. Truly I voted for it and Friday 13th and Carrie.

Biggman83
>>150640241

Cabin in the Woods is clever on the first watch, I’ll give it that. But it’s a horror parody, and doesn’t hold up on related viewing. Blair witch is of its time. You had to see it In 99. It was truly a trailblazer and opened the door to a new genre. I know that Cassie won’t handle a film like The conjuring, that’s a step too far. Even I get creeped out by it. I’m happy to see Constantine on the list, I’ve always enjoyed that movie and I’m looking forward to the rumoured sequel. I’ve just read Carrie for the first time, and that’s a film I’m yet to watch so I voted for it also.

Doug Fisher
>>150634596

@Clay Actually, "Black Swan" is classified by your beloved sites as a Psychological Drama and Psychological Thriller. I have seen the movie, there are no "horror" aspects to it. You have got me there... there is "horror" in the title of "TRHPS"... and movie theatres might have had a "horror" of a time cleaning up after a showing, what with all the water logged news papers, hot dogs, rice, etc. being thrown around... so semantically...

Clay F
>>150634596

Doug, you need to work on your reading comprehension: The Rocky "Horror" Picture Show TRHPS is part of our culture and should be watched by everyone at least once. The Google page for Black Swan gives the genre as "Horror/Drama". Wikipedia calls it a "psychological horror." Definitely a psychological horror in the broad sense of the term "horror".

Doug Fisher
>>150640241

@Richard Yeah, I would agree that most are reasonable and I hear you on the creepy "protective" ones; which is ironic since they are the ones most likely to cause harm to someone in real life. Definitely an ick factor there. Of course there is the other end of the spectrum and the ones who take pleasure in scaring, freaking or grossing out reactors. I am with you in the sense that Cass started this channel to expand her horizons, push her boundaries. The creepers don't seem to understand just how far Cass has come since starting... or maybe more accurately they don't want to see because it is all about them. So, I try and balance picking films I like/enjoy with ones I think she (and sometimes Carly) will enjoy, and finally films that not only meet the prior two criteria but also will push the limits a little.

YodatheHobbit
>>150561577

I can understand not liking the ending. It's just strange to me that people use the excuse for hating the ending to neglect all the INCREDIBLE acting performances by REALLY GOOD actors. Steller work in my opinion.

Story Archer
>>150561577

YodatheHobbit - that's the biggest mistake when it comes to the movie, focusing at all on the ending. Everybody was so primed for the Next Big Twist from Shamalayan after the Sixth Sense, but I say forget about the ending, the film itself is just so good, with so many amazing performances... it's just a criminally underrated movie.

Russell

Constantine shouldn't be on this list. Friday the 13th is a definite must and Fright Night would be perfect.

Russell
>>150702707

Agreed, Constantine is not a Halloween movie, it should have been on a different list.
