It's a bummer you couldn't watch this before Deadpool & Wolverine, but I'm glad you ended up seeing it. I'm curious to see what your reaction is going to be.

Jason Jardine

Honestly, delaying The Fly is a great idea. It's something that will stick with you for a very long time. It's not something you can unsee.

John Liebling

Are you going to watch back to back FLY(S) 1986 version with Jeff and 1958 the soul piercing ending.

The Fly hasn't won a poll. No need for Cassie to watch. She isn't missing anything. Just a gross tragic story.

Dan M

I’ve never seen this movie, but I do know it’s about vampires. Just realized Cassie’s got vampire teeth in the poster. Love seeing her get into the spirit of movie. Nice touch Cassie!

Chris

The Fly is a great film! Yes it's gross, but it is also dramatic and emotionally powerful. Jeff's performance is amazing, and it is one of the last great practical effects films (along with The Thing). It is a must see.

Taylor Salas

Be sure to at least check the second film, it’s pretty good.

Stranger2Reality

This movie was a pretty big deal when it came out, as it launched Marvel Studios, but also was hugely influential, as this obviously had a big impact on The Matrix the following year, the Underworld movies, etc. I'm guessing if it feels dated or derivative nowadays it's probably because other more well known movies that came after this borrowed so heavily from it.

Just Plain Bob

Hilarious listening to Cassie say that Blade was cheesy, given that she’s a fan of rom-coms, far and away the cheesiest of all film genres.

Trevor Rotan

This movie gave birth to Modern Marvel films. It was number 1 at the box office that summer for a number of weeks. Before this DC ruled the superhero landscape with Batman and Superman. Then Fox invested in X-men and Spider-Man, which then led to Marvel going out on it’s own when they made Iron Man. Also, it was the first R comic book film(pre DeadPool and Ryan Reynolds was in the last Snipes Blade movie in 3). Spawn from Image comics was R subject matter in the comic books, but they chickened out and made a PG-13 movie. This movie is a little rough at times from a filmmaking standpoint after 30 years, but it was a trailblazer for embracing darker visions of comic book heroes. Batman was neutered into a campy kindergarten tone by this point, this beat that door down while making a profit.

this woman, bless her, has been watching some of the wildest ish from my childhood and i appreciate it so much. but dang we gotta get her to watch some lighthearted fare after october is over 😂 i’m still hoping for dazed and confused soon!

"DC ruled the superhero landscape with ... Ninja Turtles," What did DC have to do with TMNT?

Mike Lemon
>>152831429

Yeah, drinking, drugs, abuse, a meandering plot, and throw in a little ephebophilia (maybe hebephilia) - it just screams Cassie. /s

I think we're getting "dazed and confused" from Cassie every time she watches a film at the moment.

Clarence Newman

Yes, but it's parmesan versus Edam, Bob. They're both cheese, but Cassie only likes the taste of one of them.

Sweet November would be a good pallet cleanser for fall. But it's a bit sad if I remember it right. But I think she would like that Keanu.

Chris Thom
>>152831397

I think it was it's own independent comic company with TMNT at the center. Pretty sure it's Japanese.

Just Plain Bob
>>152831217

True. But I’d say that rom-coms are more like Kraft Singles American Cheese than anything else. Perhaps Velveeta.

Joe

I don't watch Hallmark (haha), I want bone-crunching action films.

Mike Lemon
>>152831397

@Chris - TMNT was Mirage Comics, owned/founded by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the TMNT creators, until 2009-ish (2021 officially). They were in New England.

Chris Thom

Oh no way! As a kid I always thought it was from Japan...before I even knew what Japan was. Because of Shredder and the Rat, I think.

Chris Thom

Cassandra the Huntress would be a rad Marvel character name. She would have horrific visions of the future but always use polite language about it. And many a 'frick' uttered for charm points. See Scream 2 for more classical Cassandra fun...

Chris Thom
>>152831429

Lol. But it has slow-mo bullet-time effects! Or maybe just falling leaves, romance, and cancer. One of those.

Stranger2Reality

Dazed and Confused is fantastic, one of the all time great "the whole movie takes place in one day" films. Might be a good one for the end of the school year, since it's about the last day of high school.

Stranger2Reality

I think what makes Rom Coms "cheesy" is how formulaic and predictable most of them are, where you can tell within minutes exactly how it will play out and end. But this is not at all exclusive to the Rom Com genre. The exact same complaint could be made about most action films, IMO, which are equally as "cheesy". There's nothing wrong with cheesy. Sometimes being formulaic is OK, because there's a reason it became a formula in the first place: because audiences love it.

YodatheHobbit

Would be awesome for her and Carly to watch "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything - Julie Newmar" after seeing Snipes as Blade.

Mark Schamber

The only part of the movie that I always have a hard time with is the beginning in the hospital. Under NO circumstances would cops open fire on someone in a hospital, especially an unarmed person (not carrying a gun) and especially not when he's holding a hostage.
