Wes

Yass!! This is one of the best 🙌

John

EEEEE I have need looking forward to this! 🖖

PianoDean

The score to this one is truly one of the most beautiful pieces of music in cinema history and my personal favorite that Jerry Goldsmith wrote. The next one "Insurrection" is also really good.

Stick Figure Studios

I think it's Goldsmith's best Trek score after THE MOTION PICTURE.

Verteron

Woot! Cassie, you just made my night. Thanks for getting this up so early tonight. So excited to watch this.

ExploreWinnipeg

My favorite trek moment is when Worf says, "assimilate this" and only Picard might have heard it.

Michael Enos

HBD to me!! Leaving birthday dinner with my litlle bro. And will fire this up directly when I get home.

Dean Holt

Well that’s my Saturday afternoon sorted, double bill of this and Coming to America 👍🏻

Kristin

DH and I are really looking forward to this! I had to sneak ahead to the end to see your reaction when "they" show up to greet the humans. That was my reaction as well. I didn't it was them, and my DH kept it a secret. One of best moment in ST viewing history for me, and I'm so glad he didn't spoil it for me. And I'm so glad that no one spoiled it for you.

John Liebling

2063 - most likely I won't be around as I'd be 105...but Carly, Cassie, husband and kidlets will. Imagine the technology. Thankfully we won't have a real WWIII. Hard to displace the original Wrath of Khan. But boy does this come close and perhaps out paces it. I do enjoy First Contact. And Cassie if you recall month ago, I sent a Star Trek book to you, there's a lot more history about Zephrine Cochran. And that history will tell you he's not from Earth...that history is based on a different original series episode. Very cool you notice Riker is directing. Facts are, all thinks Next Generation movies, and other Star Trek series, including currently in 2024...Jonathan Frakes is directing many of the episodes.

Caomhan84

Cassie is taking quite the liking to the TNG movies. At this rate she might even love insurrection. I guess we'll see; I've always had a soft spot for it. On we go.... I'm glad she is having so much fun with this journey. 😊

Dan W

kirk in the Nextel 😂

John Sullivan

Indeed! It's all downhill from here 🤣

HumbleConeFarmer

My all time favorite movie! Directed by Jonathan Frakes, (Riker) and it even has a cameo from Adam Scott from Parks and Rec.

Laura Thornley

*excited noises* No for real, when I saw this I think I literally said "ohhehoho!"

John Sullivan

This is just what I need to cheer up from current events! Recently in the states a fu-[redacted political rant]-outrage and we just need to escape to an idealistic future fantasy land right now 😬

Night King01

Yeah you recognized Neal Mcdonough as the ensign. This was one of his first roles I believe. He caught his big break with band of brothers.

John Sullivan

It's a crime that Lily didn't get more parts. She's great

John Liebling

Is it a Borg dog? Cassie you're silly. That's why we all enjoy your channel.

Phil Stubblefield

Yes!!! Now I know what I'll be doing this evening! 😁

John Liebling

Most difficult scene for Brent Spiner, traversing the gantry down to the base of the rocket. Brent always had a fear of heights.

John Liebling

LA Confidential and I Robot and so many more he's very talented.

Texas Anla'Shok

So, I take it you approve of the Enterprise-E? The Sovereign-class has been one of my favorites ever since this came out, such a graceful, elegant design that still gives an impression of power.

JL_83

saw this one many times back in the day, thought it was so good, and the Borg queen was just so diabolically evil; they mention Captain Ahab, which is ironic cause Patrick Stewart played him in a Moby Dick TV miniseries in the 90s

Miguel

Insurrection, has grown on me over the years. It's nowhere near ST:V levels of bad.

Vwlss Nvwls

This one is a lot of fun, and follows the even number movies are the best theory. I love that they touched on the story of Picard becoming Borg again, because that was huge when I watched it on television when it aired.

Walter

EMH = Emergency Medical Hologram. It's a fun cameo - he's a regular character on Star Trek Voyager. Also Worf started the movie on the ship The Defiant. It's a ship associated with Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Worf went to that show after TNG (and for the record, it's my favorite Star Trek show). Thanks for the great reaction!

Caomhan84

It's really not. At worst. It's pretty much a super-sized TNG episode, which is honestly a good thing overall IMO. I think people hate on it because First Contact was an epic theatrical release that felt like a proper movie, and insurrection was disappointing in comparison in terms of scale. But I saw it about a year ago and I liked it just as much as I did in '98. *Shrug*

Big Lazy Dragon

Even though Jonathan Frakes had directed episodes of TNG, DS9 previously & Voyager after this movie, this would mark his first big screen directorial debut

Matt Rose

Finally...'The Good One'. I'll enjoy watching this.

Matt Rose

INSURRECTION is fine. Serviceable. NEMESIS is the abomination before God.

Matt Rose

I'll be the heretic who says that this is Goldsmith's best ST score. It's glorious.

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

Loved the LOTG reference! You're certainly steeped in nerd culture, Cassie 🤓🤓

Stick Figure Studios

This is easily the best of the next Generation movies (although, like you, I also dig GENERATIONS). Unfortunately, they go downhill from here. Still, this one is fun and exciting and with yet another fantastic score by the late great Jerry Goldsmith. Glad you enjoyed it. Figured you would.

Des Frank Keller

A quick top 4 episode of each season of DS9 and Voyager will fill in some gaps in the story line, especially going into the next movie they mention some situations that Star Fleet is in with having that knowledge known.

Stick Figure Studios

It's great and the slower theme is quite lovely, but I still think "Ilia's theme" from TMP has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written for a movie.

Chris Clarke

Did you recognise Dwight Schultz, Cassie? He was "Howling Mad Murdoch" in The A Team! (BTW, I don't know if you follow the Extra Butter chat but there's a lot of stuff on there you'd enjoy. 😊)

Vwlss Nvwls

I miss the days when movies made you look forward to going to the theater. It has been far too few in the past two decades that made me excited to leave the house, and only about five times have I actually done it. I want to enjoy movies and the theater experience like I did with this one again. Hopefully Hollywood will pull their collective heads out of their butts and make it so.

djKENTO

I love that this movie has Buck Compton in it.

Texas Anla'Shok

11:51 "Shields are holding!" We've done it crew, we've made her into a real Trekker!

Rick Rodriguez

The designers and ILM were at the top of their game on this one. Not till 09' Trek would the work be next level

ShazD

I love this film but you were absolutely right to be baffled by the whole "they don't attack us unless they consider us a threat" thing. Realistically it makes little sense the and they actually drop it for most of Voyager from what I remember.

Nealan Inouye

Is there any interest in watching any of the other Star Trek series (i.e. Voyager, Deep Space Nine, Discovery, Brave New World, etc.)?

Robert

In the Star Trek timeline, we still have some wars to go before this. But there's hope beyond!

Choof

Absolutely phenomenal reaction. This movie has always fought neck and neck for me with Wrath of Khan for my favorite. Both the 2nd movies with their crews, both with a major antagonist from the series. It's also connected because Khan himself quotes Moby Dick and views himself as an Cpt. Ahab who's white whale was kirk but this time it's our hero who has to overcome that fate. The score is by Jerry Goldsmith, probably the 2nd most famous movie composer behind John Williams. He did the theme to Star Trek: THE Motion Picture which was later used as the TNG series theme. His "first contact" theme from the credits and his borg themes are perfect. Without saying too much or giving you preconceived notions I'm not as big a fan of the next 2 movies but sometimes that happens. The next big milestone in trek I'm super excited for is for you to get to Star Trek (2009) where if nothing else they casted them perfectly and I think made a fun movie

Sunkrish Bala

Fun fact: Tom Hanks almost played Zefram Cochrane.

Matt Rose

this was my favorite of the Enterprise designs. It looked like a shark.

ShazD

Yes the blue team won and the green team lost. Boohoo.

Robert

I love this movie, so I started as soon as it hit my email.

FleetAdmiralJ

The E is my favorite Enterprise! Lol Cassie usually likes kissing but this time she was like "UM...NO!" lmao. Still on the Crusher/Picard train HAHAHAHA

FleetAdmiralJ

Well, I think the Borg view it from a strictly resource management / risk management perspective. Are these people a threat? No? Then it's better use of our time to continue on our assigned tasks. I think by the time of Voyager, the Borg finally learned that there is no "unthreatening" human behavior heh.

Texas Anla'Shok

Indeed. The filming model they built for it is a work of art.

David Quaile

Please move on to the Voyager TV Series! The holographic Doctor in First Contact is also the Doctor in Voyager. And the Borg and Q continue in Voyager - stranded in the Delta Quadrant! Very cool!

Miguel

We did it! We found a kiss Cassie wasnt interested in seeing lol Didnt like the attempted robot zombie love story? lol

Katie Jackson

Ok, so this is my Favorite Star Trek Movie. I do love the TOS movies but TNG was my Star Trek. It's the one I grew up with and the one I revisit the most. The story is so complex, but Johnathan Frakes handled it all beautifully. I also LOVE the music. It's absolutely beautiful. I actually owned the soundtrack to this movie as a kid. I used to play it low in my room if I couldn't sleep because it was so relaxing and peaceful. The new cast in this is amazing to, Alfre Woodard(Lily) is an Academy Award Nominee and has won multiple Emmy's, Screen Actors Guild awards & a Golden Globe. James Cromwell (Cochrane) is also an amazing actor who has been nominated multiple times for several awards. Basically everything came together perfectly when making this movie and it's still an amazing experience almost 30 years later(I've literally cried many times watching that ending. Going back to how everything started). I am one of the few people on here that actually likes(Mostly) the next 2 movies. Insurrection is actually really good, and has a couple scenes that I can't wait to see your reaction to. Nemesis definitely has it's problems, and even the cast has stated their disappointment with how things turned out. But even that movie has moments in it that you'll love, particularly in the beginning. Honestly my biggest problem with the movie is that it killed the franchise for 7 years(taking Star Trek Enterprise with it a few years later)and when it finally came back, it wasn't the same. From 1987-2005 Star Trek was this unprecedented franchise that kept producing incredible content(for the most part) and breaking new ground when it came to how tv series were made. It was lightning in a bottle and I'm not sure they'll ever truly capture that feeling in the same way again. Ok, wow that went on a bit😆

Chris Clarke

Well done, Cassie!🖖👏😃😂

Thomas Thompson

Not zephyren Cochran‘s first appearance, the inventor of warp drive 1st appears in an episode of the original series

Thomas Thompson

For those seriously into sci-fi, the film never let me go. Probably one of the best Science Fiction films ever made. Sci-fi stripped down to its essence.

Fanchman

I personally think she will love Insurrection, especially when it comes to Picard's storyline.

PianoDean

I agree...Enterprise is the weakest Star Trek of all up to 2005...but it was true Star Trek. I despise the JJ movies and Discovery...and I think I know the scenes you're excited for Cassie to see in Insurrection.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, I can see her enjoying INSURRECTION, but NEMESIS will be tough.

Fanchman

I look forward to your reaction to the next movie Insurrection. Though some people didn't like it, I think you'll love the story.

Dane Bude

Nice! As an aside, RIP to Tony Todd, who played Worf's brother, Kurn.

Stephen Last

I could tell Cassie was really enjoying it. I really liked the cameos. My favorite was Reginald Barclay. It was part of the reason I had hoped Cassie would watch one of his episodes. He was the engineer that was following Zephram around until he got the nerve to talk to him after talking to Geordi.

Dane Bude

Anyway, on topic, I'm glad you got to this one. It's the resolution of one of the major arcs you watched in the series. I'm looking forward to watching. As to other Trek, Voyager is much like TNG. DS9, on the other hand, was serial rather than episodic, a first for Star Trek, and along with Babylon 5, a revolutionary way to watch TV (in other words, there was a single ongoing story instead of completely separate episodes.) Enterprise is mostly serial, but skippable, as is Discovery. Strange New Worlds seems like it might be a good choice to keep the Trek audience, and it seems like it might be up your alley. It's also current and has short seasons. Picard is another good option (it's the continuation of the TNG story.) That means that it's not great for dividing up with skipped episodes. It is, however, my favorite ST series, and continues the stories of Worf and Miles (Chief) O'Brien. There are a few individual episodes, however, that can stand alone, and are worth watching. Little Green Men, The Visitor, and Far Beyond the Stars are all worth watching on their own. And given what you've already seen, Trials and Tribble-ations is, hands down, and absolute must.

Dan M

Love this movie! Definitely my favorite of the Next Generation films. One of my favorite scenes is when Zefram realizes he forgot one very important thing before they continue with the mission. Hearing Steppenwolf’s Magic Carpet Ride as they lift off is epic. And one of my favorite lines in the movie spoken by Worf…”If you were any other man, I’d kill you where you stand”. How many people can say they demand that kind of respect. Picard, that’s who.

Tinkerbell

I was excited to see this dropping-it is my favorite of the Star Trek movies. I’ve always felt that the Borg were the best Star Trek villains. Something about the way they strip away independent thought and free will always seemed especially bone chilling. Insurrection is up next. I think it suffers in comparison to how good First Contact is, but it is a fun watch on its own. I think you will enjoy it. I wouldn’t necessarily do it for the channel but you should watch the Ds9 and Voyager series of Star Trek. Both series are more connected story arcs than isolated episodes so it’s a little harder to get away with not watching everything without getting lost. But the explanation of why Worf is on another ship in this movie gets explained in Ds9 and there is a lot more about the Borg in Voyager. Voyager is a must watch if you ever want to watch Picard at some point.

Oberhauser-Blofeld

This is the first time I remember Cassie leaning forward in anticipation of what was going to happen next for nearly the whole movie. Yes, Jerry Goldsmith really raised the level on the quality of the movie score. The opening is my favorite Star Trek theme. The French Horns are perfect 👌. The special effects hold up for being a nearly 30 year old movie; much better than I have being in my fifties (lol). This movie for TNG and Wrath of Khan for TOS and my favorite Star Trek cinematic movies. Great reaction Cassie. Looking forward to the other TNG reactions. The movies aren’t as good as this one but still very entertaining. I think you’ll enjoy them. More romance in the next one.

Story Archer

lol - imagine watching this and not knowing what the Defiant is...

MikeLL

I well remember the epic theatrical experience of seeing this movie for the first time on Thanksgiving Day in 1996 with the whole family! I’ll never forget it!

JPDotCom23

"Is it a dog borg, borg dog?" hahaha cute

Dan M

I’m with you Katie. I liked Insurrection and Nemesis as well. Every movie franchise is gonna have one or two movies that divide the fan base (i.e. the Star Wars sequel trilogy). And there are very few movie franchises where every movie in the franchise is a home run (Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy). Insurrection and Nemesis are good movies, but they just felt like a step down instead of continuing on the high that First Contact left you with. And by the way, I’ve only been with PIB for a year, but that is definitely the longest comment I remember you posting. Hope it’s not the last time. I felt the passion in your words. 😂

Vwlss Nvwls

There is nothing wrong with being a sci-fi freak. Science fiction stories are like any other. They rely on great characters and stories, they just add something extra to give a little more room for fun.

Dan M

I can totally see him in that role.

scott osborne

cassie first i loved your reaction now if your wondering why worf was on the tough little ship called the Defiant its cause he was posted to deep space nine about 6 months after the enterprise crashed landed on Veridian III. and it has been about 2 years from the events of generations to the events of this film note that worf is the only crew member of the enterprise to have fought in a conflict involving the klingons and starfleet and then a full on war involving the alpha quadrant and the gammer quadrant called the Dominion War you will have to watch Deep Space 9 to see how that went

Dan M

If movie theaters are to be saved from extinction, this must happen again. And more consistently.

V M

The TNG movies were pretty good but I liked the TNG tv series more.

Michael G

it is interesting how close this reaction was to the theatrical release. Probably not planned but a happy accident.

Chrissonator

She's a tough little ship :3

Cole Jennett

I really liked this movie. It had definitely been awhile since I’d seen it. I couldn’t care less if true Star Trek fans call me out, but I still like Star Trek 2009 the best, and it’s not even close for me! I didn’t like the sequels nearly as much, but that first one, an absolute 10 in my eyes! This may be my 2nd favourite. It held up well.

zynjams

the Hologram Doctor was from Star Trek Voyager, there was 3 actors, 4 if you count Riker, from the show Voyager

Mojo One Thousand

I m actually looking forward to the 2009 reaction, mainly to see what Cassie thinks of the casting and performances (there is one in particular), and whether see can recognise the villain... a lot of people have trouble with it.

Cole Jennett

I don’t expect her to, and I won’t be sad if she doesn’t. Casting is perfect imo

Cole Jennett

I’ve seen her in tons of stuff🧐

Cole Jennett

I see you have a new popcorn symbol for when you like messages, is that to distinguish you and Carly on the podcast comments?

WestBound

Side note ...that podcast has been my new daily commute podcast 10/10

Mojo One Thousand

I agree with you that I don't expect any recognition, and have no feeling either way, it doesn't impact anything. But I wouldn't be surprised if there is familiarity but not sure why.

Cole Jennett

Somehow her eyes block out the names of the actors in the opening credits, but if she saw it, she would more likely be looking for them and figure it out. Makes me laugh at how often she is surprised at an actor/actress she knows really well appears in the movie when their name flashed on the screen in the first few minutes😂🥰

Michael Labs

"Who's the sexy Borg" wasn't the thing that was on my bingo card to hear today... please continue to be the gift that keeps giving Cassie. As to the Borg Queen; the actress Alice Krige also played another sexy/psychopathic woman in 1980s "Ghost Story" (if you can find it). The movie also starred an elderly Fred Astaire.

Mojo One Thousand

I do find a bit funny as well, but it does depend on what is happening in the credits, if they are just overlaying actions in the movie, or if they are a full credit sequence. When the movie is running I think she focusing on what is happening (totally fair), when it is a full credit sequence, she is potentially thinking of other things (phone status, mics, volume, or just life stuff), and then there are times she is with Carly, so they could be chit-chatting. I don't think the Abrams' movie have full credits in the same way the older movies do, just a title card, and the credits at the end, so there could be loads of surprises.

Andrew Buel

A fun reaction, but one of my favorite moments may be the ending. Seeing Cassie realize that the aliens of First Contact were the Vulcans, and her doing the best "Live Long and Prosper" salute I think she's done. Glad you liked it! Hope you like the next 2. Thanks for the content!

Zeroarmor7

Astronauts on a Star Trek. Still love that line

TechJJ

First of all, Cassie is ahead of the curve. Took me few years to be close to form the "Vulcan Hello" without any help and no bending. Second, the female voice representing Borg is called the Borg Queen. She appeared in Voyager series and also Picard Seasons 2 & 3. Third, the Vulcan's rule of only visiting species when they broke the lightspeed barrier is adopted by Starfleet (Prime Directive). Fourth, the First Contact in timeline basically kicked off ST:Enterprise series. Lastly, the theme music for First Contact is another masterpiece from Goldsmith. I listen to it a lot still in a long car trip or just kick back and relax. The music for the next one (Insurrection) is very good as well - my wife's favorite.

Mojo One Thousand

"Lily" is played by Alfre Woodard, she is quite the acclaimed actress. Unless this was directed at "Start Trek" particularly, Cole is right, she has been in a lot of stuff, and several on the channel including "Primal fear " and "12 years a slave". She has even been in the MCU, she had a small part in "Civil War", she accosts "Tony Stark" after his presentation towards the start of the movie. There is also an earlier movie that she is in with RDJ, and would also be up PIB's alley called "Heart and Souls" from the early '90s.

Mojo One Thousand

Cassie, he is a bit of a red shirt ensign (grey in this movie) on the bridge of the Enterprise. Not really a cameo, as this is an early, small part for an unknown actor in 1996 - cameos are known actors popping unexpected in things. It would still be another 12 years before we see him at the Catalina Wine Mixer.

Cody Nelson

It's funny. Way back during either your "Best of Both Worlds" or "Q Who" reaction, when you said the Borg needed a face, I immediately thought of the Borg Queen. I'm glad to see you call back to that in the recap at the end :) It's interesting the writers Brannon Braga and Ronald Moore even talk about in the audio commentary that they were advised to create a Borg Queen for the reasons that you've mentioned since it's a movie and they needed to give the Borg more of a face. The premise of the film came from Braga and Moore wanting to do a story about the Borg and Rick Berman wanted a time travel story. They ended up combining the two. I knew you would love this one! This is actually the movie that got me into Star Trek! It, therefore, has a special place in my heart. Though the movie does still work for people who haven't seen the show I am glad you came into this one having watched the show. I'm glad you took notice of the opening theme. Jerry Goldsmith's score for this is amazing. I listen to it often, especially the first contact theme. Yes, the visual effects are great in this! You can tell they had more money then they ever did on the show, hence why the Borg look so good. Though the budget was only 45 million, they really knew how to use it. I'm also glad you noticed the "Directed by Jonathan Frakes" credit. While he had previously directed a few episodes of the show this movie was his feature film directing debut. He would go on to direct the next TNG movie "Insurrection" and a few other films.

D. T. Nelson

The Enterprise crew member who was the Zephram Cochran fanboy (Reginald "Reg" Barclay) was a fan favorite and recurring character on the TNG series (though you unfortunately never got to watch any of the episodes he was in). The composer of the music, Jerry Goldsmith, was the one who composed music for the First OG cast movie and the composer of the TNG series theme music and the Theme to Star Trek: Voyager (a series in which the holographic doctor in this movie was a regular cast member). Many people were glad Goldsmith came back for this film (The score for First Contact is probably my favorite of all the Star Trek movies). To be aware going forward, Michael Dorn's Worf, by this point in the Star Trek movies/shows, was a main character on the Series Deep Space Nine (which was why he wasn't on the Enterprise-E at the start of the movie. When this film came out, both DS9 and Voyager were on TV, so there were lots of interesting overlaps.

greggreggreg2000

I also like the time travel plots. Star Trek 4 when they save the whales and First Contact are my two favorite Star Trek movies!

Ben Schwartz

That was great, thanks for watching this movie!

Ben Schwartz

Insurrection isn't quite as good as First Contact, but I still love it, it's still worth watching, and I think Cassie should still watch it. Nemesis was a bit of a dud, but it's still Star Trek TNG so I love it anyway, even though the storyline is meh. It's still required viewing, IMO, if you want the complete Star Trek TNG experience. And yeah, I think First Contact is not only the best TNG movie, but the best ST movie of all time. I think it checks every box and exceeds all the other movies in every way. It was one of the great 90's sci-fi/action movies.

Billy Higgins

Then extreme close up on the broken enterprise D next to the phaser rifle 🤯🤯🤯

Billy Higgins

Seeing Cassie light up with joy when the Vulcan takes off his hood 👏👏👏👏🖖🖖🖖🖖

Phil Stubblefield

Well, Cassie, that was fantastic! I was waiting the entire movie to see your reaction to the surprise reveal near the end, and you did not disappoint! 😁 And, without spoilers, I'm so proud that you've learned to do the thing! Ah, we've successfully roped another person into the Star Trek universe and, more generally, into the sci-fi action genre!

rakesh

It makes me laugh thinking how you loved rom-coms growing up and probably weren't too enamored by sci-fi. And now you're one of us! You get giddy at the music, the classic "engage" and "make it so," the first flyby shots of the ship. and seeing old friends again. Good call on the borg queen, I remember you saying they needed a figure head in the first borg epsiodes and knew you'd get your wish.

Choof

He's the helmsman on Worf's wrecked ship that announces another ship has arrived and that it's the enterprise

Neil

Cassie, you won't have recognised her, no one could, but you met Alice Krige before (The Borg Queen) she was in Chariots of Fire. Loved the reaction. Please guys though, don't spoil future episodes of other series for Cassie. Even if she doesn't react to them oin here she may well want to watch them

Brian Bland

This is the first full length reaction I've seen. I picked a good one to start with.

OddThomas

The rest of the Next Gen movies are pretty meh sadly, but the first two Chris Pine Treks are good

Jasbro

Nemesis was a good movie and imo the 2nd best Trek movie from the TNG era, Insurrection was very meh but had some fun moments.

John Drake

"They got out of the Nextel" I just imagine patrick Stewart trying to cancel his phone contract. "Is it a dog borg" Cassie is hilarious

Clarence Newman

I think you may be in the minority with your Nemesis opinion, Jasbro, and Insurrection? Come on, brethren, that was a really fun movie!

Clarence Newman

From her legion of Trekkie fans....hell yes!!!!

crazyivan

We can thank JJ Abrams for convincing the ST universe that you have to have more action (a'la Star Wars)...The older Star trek movies for the most part are just long episodes.

crazyivan

Just saw in the newspaper, Tony Todd, who played Worf's brother Kurn has passed. He was 69.

Clarence Newman

Guys, I have a major malfunction over here and need some help. Whenever I watch a full reaction of Cassie's using my own DVDs, I have to right click on her video, hit "Inspect", go to "Console" and enter "document.querySelector('video').playbackRate = 1.0426" as a command. That's because the video Cassie is watching is .0426 slower than my DVD. It's a regional thing apparently, but if I enter the above command, it all syncs up. I just tried to do that on this video and for the first time ever, it crashes when I hit Enter. The message I'm getting up is "Aw snap" and the Error code STATUS_BREAKPOINT. Down in the Console cell it says "The deferred DOM Node could not be resolved to a valid node." I tried to watch without changing the speed, but there's no point. Every 10 seconds, my DVD has moved ahead and I have to resync. Can anybody help? I just tried to do it on a couple of other videos and the same thing is happening, so right now, I can't watch any full reactions. Edit: If I click on reasons why it failed in Console, it says "Deprecated feature used. Unload event listeners are deprecated and will be removed." If that means the speed change is blocked, then I'm screwed.

Mike Lemon

Not a clue, but what are you playing the DVD on? If it is on a computer, there is an easy fix.

HumbleConeFarmer

In a blink and you'll miss it moment, you can see him as the helmsman on the Defiant, Worf's ship, during the battle with the Borg cube. He's the one who says. "Sir, there's another ship coming in... it's the ENTERPRISE" You can also see Christian Slater cameo in Star Trek 6 The Undiscovered Country. He's the one who wakes up Captain Sulu on the Excelsior to tell him the Enterprise has gone no contact with Starfleet. Plus I don't think you even watched the Ashley Judd or Famke Janssen episodes in TNG, lots of famous people in Star Trek!

Clarence Newman

Yes, always a computer with two screens. I've jury rigged something using a different DVD program (you can adjust the play rate on that but it's a bit jerky), but I still keep having to tweak.

Dane Bude

That's what I get for late night editing. The last two paragraphs were in reference to DS9.

Joe J

For me, the TNG movies never felt much different than the TV show...just with bigger budgets. Having not seen First Contact in like 20 years, I felt the pacing was clunky in spots, but the Borg queen elevates the film so much.

Robert da Spruce

Great reaction Cassie! I really love how you’ve embraced TNG I really like this one! Although it was a little tough seeing Picard so callous to the crew that had been assimilated. My favorite part of the reaction was seeing you realize the “first contact” species were Vulcan 😊 🖖 I look forward to the next one!

Joe J

I join the extra butter tier from time to time, glad I did this October since Hill House was so delayed getting to YT. Her YT edits are so excellent, I watch very few full reacts, just due to the time involved.

Next thing you know she'll be doing cosplay.😆

Ike

She recognized “Lt. Buck Compton” from Band of Brothers! I’m happy. Let’s go Kelvin Era Star Trek!

KTVindicare

No you arent imagining it Cassie. The theme of this movie hits different. It's my favorite Star Trek score.

Uncle Phoenix

I can not tell a lie; It hurt my heart a little when Cassie said that the Shrek Donkey was Obnoxious. (Tear)

Walter

Yeah, I actually enjoyed Insurrection. It feels like a regular TNG episode, so maybe not entirely cinema worthy, but it’s still good. Nemesis I don’t like much at all - no spoilers, but some of the things that happen actually make me angry. But whatever - to each their own.

DAVID COSTELLO

She's getting pretty good at the Vulcan salute.

Shad Kanyak

Even though not one of the more popular TNG films, I think Cassie is going to love Insurrection. It has some chick flick elements to it.

Mike Lemon

Ok, easy fix. You may need to try another program and set the DVD playback speed to 96%. On VLC it is right under the volume, you need to look up other programs yourself though.

Dean Holt

I’d forgotten just how epic the score was, it’s just incredible and maybe the best out of the entire franchise. I’d also forgot that Cassie didn’t really know about first contact and I really think it was great to see her reaction when she found out it was the Vulcans, so I’m glad she didn’t see any episodes that actually explain the story. As regards the movie it’s definitely in my top 5 of best Trek films maybe even top 3 behind Undiscovered Country and Wrath of Khan. As it’s got a perfect balance of action, drama and comedy with a great story. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the next two as they unfortunately take a bit of a drop in quality and they always felt like two part episodes (especially the next one) rather than a big movie. I think a few people explain why Worf wasn’t on the Enterprise and speaking of Worf. Unfortunately we had the passing of Tony Todd today, he was known more as a horror actor, but had a few appearances in a few Sci-Fi show including Star Trek Voyager, DS9 and played Worf’s bother in the Next Gen. Also while we are talking about Sci-Fi any chance you could swap Howard the Duck for The Last Starfighter, Innerspace, Flight of the Navigator, Batteries not Included or Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Trust me you won’t regret it 😂, I’ve also been wanting to see you react to the first two for years just two of my favourite 80s sci-fi films.

KTVindicare

So a couple of small things, that aren't very important to the story, but do help color in a little bit of the "huh?" moments. 1.) This movie takes place a couple of years after Generations, most of the crew has been inactive during this period except for Worf who gets reassigned to Deep Space Nine, which you get to see all of his adventures there in the Deep Space Nine TV show. It's more of an easter egg than a plot point, but his "tough little ship" is an important ship in that show. So seeing it in this movie was a cool little nod to the DS9 fans. 2.) Dixon "Dix" Hill is a private investigator character that Picard loves to play in the Holodeck on his time off or at least he tries to. It's a running gag that every time Picard tries to relax with one of these mystery novels he gets called away to the bridge for some emergency. Those all happen during episodes of TNG that we didn't get to see on the channel. 3.) Johnathan Frakes actually got his start in directing in the TNG show. He directed a few episodes of TNG and later DS9 and Voyager. This was his first big movie credit as director. And finally 4.) The costuming and effects budget for this movie was much higher than the first TNG movie, which is very noticeable. The costumes get recycled back into the DS9 TV show and starting in Season 5 (I think) of that show become the standard Starfleet Uniform.

Clarence Newman

Strange. Volume is right at the bottom on my VLC, so no room for anything beneath. I can change the speed, but only to Slower, Faster, Slower (fine) etc, but I can’t customize to a specific speed. AnyDVD sort of works though so I should be ok. Thanks for your help, Mike, but I’d still like to know what’s happened to the ability to change speed on Cassie’s vids.

Hat

Maybe just stream the movie? I think it's free on Prime.

Clarence Newman

I will find a way. Our Princess of Pop is worth the hassle.

Clarence Newman

I think Cassie is so invested in the TNG characters now, she'll enjoy Nemesis regardless. Remember guys, this is a woman who actually enjoyed Gambit!

Canadianant

Loved watching this along with you today. Huge smiles pretty much the whole time. A pile of great moments in this but I truly was loving the end reveal of the Vulcans and zephrine's difficulty performing the Vulcan salute. I knew you would get a kick out of that and you didn't disappoint.

Clarence Newman

Now she needs to learn how to use a bat'leth.

David Kent

Patrick Stewart played Captain Ahab in the 1998 TV miniseries of Moby Dick.

Clarence Newman

It occurs to me, Mike....you have just offered assistance to a rabid Star Trek fan on a Star Trek thread when the very sight of Star Trek on this channel makes your eyes bleed like a stressed-out Le Schiffre. This will not be forgotten!

Mike Lemon

Oh. Click "view" [alt-i (India)] and tick "status bar", that should show it.

Mike Lemon

And I have said many times, I like Trek, but I hate long-ass series killing the variety of movies here. A "trilogy" (or 10 episodes, not both) at most, then move on. Viva Variety!

V M
>>154841622

Patrick Stewart played Scrooge in the 1999 TV movie A Christmas Carol

John Sullivan

Alfre 100% deserves it! But I'm sad that we didn't see Lily again. (but from what you said - maybe the reason is that Trek couldn't afford her..)

Mojo One Thousand

Oh yeah, the defiant rather than the Enterprise.

Scott Macaulay

That was super fun! I haven’t watched that in a while. As always, you bring such a fresh perspective on old movies for me. I got to tour Industrial Light and Magic in CA (the company that did the fx) while this was being made. Good memory. Great reaction!

David Kent

I wish I got to see it but he did a one person theater production of Christmas Carol.

Silver Machine

Patrick Stewart played Sejanus in the 1976 TV miniseries I, Claudius

John Sullivan

Fuck everything else. The only thing that should matter is a bright Star Trek future where greed isn't the purpose of our lives ❤️

Ciarra Jade

Its been awhile since i watched Star Trek: First Contact but I always said it was my favorite Star Trek movie and i was reminded why it was and I got all emotional watching at the end. So thank you for this .. Can't wait for you to react to Star Trek: Insurrection !!

David Freese

Both Insurrection and Nemesis are like extra long episodes with a movie budget

JD

Ethan Phillips (neelix) was the maître de, Obviously the Doctor was in it but who was the third? Queeny?

Rick Williams

It was great to revisit this movie. It has been a long time. Great Reaction Cassie. I love how much you have come to love this world.

Andrew Roach

The 4th series Voyager can be watched like TNG, a top 4 episodes from each season as it has great episodes and the Doctor is great. The 3rd series Deep Space Nine, I believe most people's favorite Trek series, would require a much bigger commitment due to its serialized nature. Even then watching every episode is not necessary, just every episode directly related to the arc and then the select great stand alone episodes.

Wrestling With Gaming

Thanks for making your reactions available for individual purchase. Just watched first contact for probably the tenth time but doing so along with your reaction made it fresh again.

Clay F

I think like you in that one reason I like Star Trek is the hopeful future -- I prefer to view a hopeful future as more likely for humanity than a doomsday scenario. I see that you noticed Buck Compton of the Band of Brothers series. Agree that Beverly is looking nice -- "blonde and cute." I also thought that Deanna is looking good. Riker is doing well. Of couse, Picard did awesome. I enjoy First Contact. You had a good reaction. Thx. I am having a craving to rewatch DS9.

Clay F

My personal ranking of Trek series -- the top 4 all time: 1. TNG 2. TOS (sentimental) 3. DS9 4. Voyager I like the female captain in Voyager. You can skip DS9 (awesome) and go straight to Voyager. I do love DS9 (excellent). Watch for the performances. Good acting. Good writing. Has plenty of action, but the show is really about social issues and inspires philosophical discussion. I think there is a consensus that DS9 is the best Trek series? Yet, I am partial to TNG (my No. 1).

Clarence Newman

You can't skip DS9, it's too good and it would entertain you too much. You'll simply have to create another channel so us Trek weirdos can watch every episode with you. Doesn't matter how long it takes. An episode a week would be fine.

Art of Free Speech

I would love to see her watch Voyager (and I wonder if she'll remember the EMH from this movie), but I would disagree that "most people's favorite" is DS9. DS9 is often referred to as Deep Sleep 9 by a LOT of people, and it's often said (on the Star Trek subreddits) it has the least likable characters of any of the OldTrek series, as well as having the worst first 2 seasons of any OldTrek series. This is not to say NOBODY likes it. Clearly lots of people do. I just don't think it registers as most people's favorite.

Art of Free Speech

Agreed... it's like sharing your favorite food or favorite music with a friend and having them love it as much as you do.

Art of Free Speech

Really? Nobody mentioned his role in Excalibur? He played Leondegrance in Excalibur.

Clarence Newman

You're probably right, Art. I would put TNG and TOS ahead of it, but I still love DS9. Some characters I could take or leave, but Sisko was awesome and I always loved the relationship between Bashir and O'Brien. I think the reason a lot of people hold DS9 in such high esteem is because it had a great story arc you could really get your teeth into. And it contains some of the best individual episodes in the entire Trek universe. (Duet, Season 1. Civil Defense and Heart of Stone, Season 3. The Visitor, Season 4. Nor The Battle To The Strong and Trials and Tribble-ations, Season 5. The Magnificent Ferengi, One Little Ship Season 6.) The story arc ramps up throughout the final seasons and season 7 is just great tv with a fully-realised ending. Fitting it on this channel is problematic, but I really do want Cassie to experience it.

Clarence Newman

Voyager, however - that's a no-brainer. When she comes back to Trek in a year or so's time, that one is an easy choice.

Peter Rising

After Cassie completes the TNG movies, I actually think she would enjoy going directly to Star Trek Picard as she loves Jean-Luc so much. Important to watch all episodes of course. Contrary to a lot of opinion, I absolutely love Picard Season 1 - highly underrated. It's hard to like much about Season 2, but I think most will agree that Season 3 is perfection! Perhaps the only advance watching that would be useful before Picard would be Voyager Scorpion parts 1 & 2.

Witchfinder General

You would have thought the Federation would have equipped Starships with conventional hand-to-hand weapons to engage the Borg in close quarters

James

So now you have to watch Star Trek Enterprise, that continues the story of this movie, and the creation of Starfleet ;) The EMH you saw that Dr. Crusher called up to escape the Borg is a character from Voyager. Voyager wasn't great, but the character of the EMH was FANTASTIC! Voyager also flesh out a bit more of the story of both The Q and The Borg. Also, you will have the watch Deep Space 9 as it is the best show ;) There is a fairly big DS9 spoiler in Insurrection, so I recommend watching DS9 first.

Witchfinder General

@crazyivan The TOS movies are proper sci-fi films. JJ Trek is popcorn fodder. Just bells & whistles without substance. Teen Trek

Joe J

Personally, I don't think Cassie's has much (if any) interest in Voyager, DS9, and Enterprise. I think she will watch Picard on her own, but probably not for the channel.

Mark White

Me too, this is my first full reaction. Having the individual purchase option is a good idea. I never normally have time to watch a full movie these days! But I’m off sick, so I grabbed the opportunity. I had trouble syncing the movies, but over all really enjoyed the experience. Maybe in the future I might upgrade and watch more full length reactions.

Clarence Newman

Cassie is invested in the Trek universe now, Joe, so her investment in DS9 and Voyager is only a matter of time. Mainly because we will drive her crazy talking about it.

Clarence Newman

Give us a chance, Art. We're working our way through his portfolio. A Christmas Carol and The Canterville Ghost would be right up Cassie's cul-de-sac. Oh, and Excalibur.

Cole Jennett

Mike Lemon’s head must be exploding, lol. You will see some channel boycott’s (not by me) if she does this, lol

Mark White

A Question for my fellow Trekkies? If you pick your Favourite Captain from Star Trek, would it be the Captain you would most want to be Captained by??! So my Favourite is Picard But, if I was actually in the world of trek on a ship, I think I would most like to be captained by Janeway. What about you guys???

Ian Tonge

Very much agree with this take on Star Trek. For me Star Trek, at it's core, is about a bunch of people with different cultural backgrounds all working together as a team to solve problems and explore the universe in the spirit of friendship and curiosity. I feel like most of the modern incarnations of Star Trek have lost that, and instead it's all just cool people being cool in space, which is a real shame.

Rick Rodriguez

When the time comes, I will defend at least 09 Star Trek.

Katie Jackson

Star Trek 09 isn't a bad movie, it just doesn't have that same feeling. It's kind of hard to describe but it's kind of like moving out of your childhood home and into a new house. The house is nice but it isn't home.

Big Lazy Dragon

I totally get Picard's desire to touch the Phoenix. I've been to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington D.C. myself, and there was so many things I would have loved to touch just once & couldn't because the exhibits were inaccessible. So him wanting to fulfill a childhood fantasy by touching a part of history is something I can relate to.

Big Lazy Dragon

A little fun fact about the first meeting between Zefram Cochrane & the Vulcans: the Vulcan who greets him & shakes his hand is Solkar, grandfather of Sarek & great-grandfather of Spock. While this was initially considered non-canon due to the reference appearing in a card game, it was later supported by dialogue in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise & has now become canon.

Big Lazy Dragon

Ben Sisko, the only Starfleet Captain who can 'intimidate' Worf.

Johnny Bullis

OMG thank you for this one Cassie.. this one is up there with Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home.. best line of the movie.. " And you people, you're all astronauts on some kind of Star Trek." So on the nose but I loved it.. and the Borg queen giving Data a... well you know, the scene she blows on his skin.. "Was it good for you?" And your reaction to that was priceless.. and you even saying later in your reaction.. So she can sexually assault Data had me literally ROTFLMAO.. as always .. great reaction.. and I too get goosebumps when the aliens reveal that they are Vulcan. Great movie.. thanks again Cassie.

Tommy Bessinger

After you finish watching The Next Generation movies, you gotta watch the series "Pichard" but I'd suggest only the third season as season 1 and 2 kinda sucked. After that you must watch the series Star Trek Voyager. Seriously you'd love it. The captain is a woman.

V M
>>154794232

Me too Joe, I rarely watch her full reactions and usually wait for the YT edits.

ShazD

Why would you wanna be under Captain Janeway... She's crazy.

ShazD

Wish people would stop saying "you have to". She doesn't have to do anything.

ShazD

Deanna looked terrible in this movie. Apparently they wouldn't hire her normal makeup person as she was too expensive or something so she ended up looking like a clown. Also she has like five lines. Sad.

Clarence Newman

Anyone but Kirk. People died every episode under his command. I'd be happy with Picard or Janeway, but if I had a choice, it would have to be Sisko. He was the sort of leader who makes you feel bulletproof.

Rayna Storie

Voyager is definitely the best well my personal favorites

Athan Immortal

Can you remove the spolers about Picard, in case she ever watches it. All those things are revealed during the course of that series and would tint someone's viewing of it if they knew who certain people were before certain episodes.

Scott Macaulay

Agreed on Picard. I just bought the third season only on Bluray. I was glad I didn't need to buy all three together.

Mark White

ShazD, that’s a tough one to explain! So Sisko is Badass for sure and Picard is a intelligent leader. But when I think of who I would want to work under on a day to day basis, in between massive conflicts etc it’s Janeway. I really like how she created a feeling of family, she seamed to be really approachable. Unlike Picard and Sisko who could be quite intimidating for their crew. I guess I look at it as if I was a member of staff, who would I want to be my manager. Just I side note, she was alone out there, no real help from Starfleet unlike the others. Taking on the Borg in their back yard, Species 8472, destroying a Borg trans warp Hub etc etc Anyway, all the captains are great just in different ways.

Clay F

I thought she looked good.

Chris Parker

Agreed on Picard. Seasons 1 and 2 were awful and should be forgotten. Season 3 was great as its own thing.

René Ferland

Voyager is the only Star Trek series I watched entirely at original airing time. It is the one that caught me. Picardo as the Doctor really impressed me, he could be serious or funny both convincingly. I don't know of anyone reacting to that show.

tasty_coffee85

One of the best movies I've ever been honored to watch. Patrick Steward and all of the others were simply amazing and I am be proud to embraced this in cinema back than. (and apologies for my bad english)

crazyivan

Except Captain Janeway seems to whisper a lot.

crazyivan

I remember when TNG first came out. I was in my early 20's, and we had a 10ft satellite dish. This was before anyone had a "satelllite package" of channels. You buy your dish and receiver and point it anywhere in the sky and watch whatever you wanted for free - except the gov't stuff or porn channels (what?, I was 22). We found a satellite that would send new episodes of shows (including TNG) down to their local affiliates on Sunday afternoons (for the next week), so we'd plug in a VHS tape and record the shows early...w/ no commercials, days ahead of anyone that watched it on 'tv'...I don't know why I thought of that...just the ramblings, etc, etc.

Gray

This is the first time i've ever watched Star Trek and tbh that was a solid film, I enjoyed Data's character the most. I can see why this is such a popular show and i probably should have watched it as a child instead of being annoyed it was on instead of The Simpsons on BBC2. Guess i'll just have to continue on with the film series, hopefully the rest of the films are equally as good.

ArsTropica

Gud on ya for trying it out!

Clay F

I was in my late 20s/early 30s when the series aired (a weekly event for my wife and I in our house). That's wild you got to watch episodes early.

Clay F

Picard or Sisko. Yet, I also like Janeway and Kirk.

Clay F

I don't think she will watch (much less react to) DS9, which I love and is arguably the best Trek series (though my personal No. 1 is TNG). I like Voyager but could not get into ST Enterprise.

Clay F

After the TNG movies and Chris Pine ST movies, Trek will likely be over on the channel. She will skip reacting to DS9. That seems like a given. No way to do an abbreviated number of episodes, as with TNG or Voyager. I am open to suggestions to how to do an abbreviated reaction to DS9. DS9 will be skipped. Voyager is better than nothing. Agree that Voyager is a no-brainer. Yet, I think she is sensitive to having too much Trek. The Picard series (especially S3) is good. I could not get into ST Enterprise series.

crazyivan

It took three people to make it work, one to move the dial on the receiver (and to tell us to move the dish to the next satellite), someone to relay the command at the window and one to crank the handle to move the dish (before we bought the power attachment). It was an adventure finding free entertainment in the sky back then. I can't say they were the good old days, but we had fun.

Chris Thom

My first little crappy TV at eight, with no hookups, could get PBS, one local news channel, and Star Trek. And that was pretty much it.

p0sthum4n

Unfortunately the rest of the films are not great. The one after First Contact is OK, feels more like a high budget two parter episode than a movie. The fourth TNG movie is straight up not very good.

p0sthum4n

Probably Picard. Being able to relate to my leader feels important to me and I'm not into baseball or beets or coffee or water polo or chicken sandwiches or anything else the other captains are into but I can relate to Picard.

RJ MacReady

Definitely continue with Picard after the next two movies! I would also love for DS9 but the show follows an overall storyarch so its tough to skip episodes. Though some references to the events of the show are made in the next two movies.

Brad Burback

Cassie- you have GOT to watch Picard Season 4 to see how everything from this movie finally comes together!

Brad Burback

Sorry.dumb thumb 👍 Season 3, not 4

Tom Evans

Sisko is my favorite captain as a character, but I would want to be captained by Picard.

Lonnie Vannatter

One of the best quotes from any Star Trek movie!!!! " We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They invade our space and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!!!!!!"

Big Lazy Dragon

A little fun fact about the bar scene (one of my favorite scenes of the whole movie): there were rumors for a while that prior to filming, Jonathan had taken Marina out drinking so that she would be sufficiently drunk in order to play the scene correctly. Marina herself dispelled those rumors, stating that not only does she act like that when she is legitimately intoxicated, but she is in fact a rather mean drunk when she's been drinking, so her 'drunk' performance is a reflection of how she is in real life.

Lonnie Vannatter

I met Brent Spiner several times he is a super guy he def loves his fans

Justin Samlal

Archer! Starfleet's greatest ever officer

Biajja Chiemara

If it wasn't already mentioned. Worf as Captain of Defiant is explained in Star Trek DS9. Holographic Doctor is explained in Star Trek Voyager. First Contact with Vulcan is flushed out and explored in Star Trek Enterprise.

Richard Higgs

If you want more Borg, you gotta watch Voyager. The Borg are the best thing that came out of TNG, except maybe the Enterprise E.

John A

This is the best of the TNG movies. Funny you mention there are those who think this is the best of all the Star Trek movies, in fact I had gone back and forth with Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi) over which movies was the best, she said First Contact and I argued that "The Wrath of Kahn" was the best. We both had fun discussing them hahaha, never forget that moment when I met her.

Athan Immortal

Clay, I think you were active on the discord when I was on. I'm a lapsed member but did purchase this post separately so I can still reply. Do you know if there's been any further discussion on the Star Trek topic channel if Cassie will look at any other franchises or Picard in future? Hopefully you see this, thanks for your time. Appreciate any info matey.

Clay F

Athan, good to see you. She completed the Chris Pine trilogy and that’s it for now for Trek. She said take a break. Nothing planned. The Picard series or Voyager a possibility but likely not soon and no guarantee.
