I’m so sorry the chat made u do this Cassie. It’s supposed to be a weird satire of the yuppie culture of the late 80’s. Patrick Bateman now is mostly a sigma meme lol.

Trevor Rotan

I knew this would be rough for you, but we all Love the effort. Also, Bale based Bateman’s smile and personality on Tom Cruise.

Craig G

I guess I was probably returning videotapes…..

Ian A

"These guys seem douchie"...aah truer words were never spoken...in the first 3 minutes. After seeing this a couple times, the violence is the least disturbing part of this movie. I have worked in corporate situations with these buzzwords and nonsense "what does he do?" people and trying to be the best, not to this level of course, and that freaked me out the most. Thanks for the video Cassie! Oh I forgot, I have some videotapes to return.

William Brownlee

I will never understand the appeal of this type of movie. I love movies that make me smile and laugh and see choices that make someone better, but evil and horror are lost on me. I know some people love them and hate my favorites. Everybody has their opinion and is welcome to it. I like Lawrence of Arabia, even though parts of it can be tough to watch. But you see a man's journey. Would love a comedy or really old classic. Or a western. Love your cheerful commentary.

Mark Schamber

I'm with you sir. What is the benefit to society for making this type of movie? Or horror movies at all? How is the suffering of others entertaining to you? What does that say about you?

Just Plain Bob
>>163169585

I think that appreciating a particular genre of film probably says a lot less about a person’s character than does demonizing those that like things different than you.

Clay F
>>163169585

William, appreciate your sentiment. I am not horror movie guy (though I think The Shining is a work of art, and Zombieland and Tucker & Dale vs Evil are funny). I am not big on really old classics because I like the production of modern movies better, but do like seeing charismatic actors in the classics and getting a feel for the history of the time. Select comedies can be good. I like westerns, e.g., I would like to see her react to Pale Rider (1985). I have liked the war genre since I was a kid. In my old age, I like positive movies, happy endings -- in contrast, in my youth I wanted realism. A movie about evil/horror that everyone should watch is Schindler's List.

Cory H

Cassie, I'm with you in being confused about what really happened! But I still enjoy the movie, in some weird way. Now...I need to return some video tapes.

Mark Schamber

I think the way that movie ended broke Cassie. Lol

SpankTheMonk

The brave goeth forth, we on the backs of their endeavors. We salute you 🖖🫶

Chris Thom

That translucent Bale in the background of the poster is haunting.

V M
>>163169585

I think theres a place for horror movies. People for centuries have liked to be scared. It can have an exhilarating physiological effect. What scares people over the years has sure changed though. If horror movies, or this type of movie, arent your cup of tea William, I can understand. People like different things.

Jon

Definitely not a Cassie movie. "That can't be real" kind of sums up the whole movie!

Milton William Burray
>>163168208

@ Neil, These polls aren't to determine the films Cassie would like the most but what film customers would be most inclined to watch along with

graham scott

The movies i really want u and your sister to react to are Real Steel with Hugh Jackman and Warrier with Tom Hardy. Think Rocky which I know u both loved. I think that some people just want to upset u with some of their selections.

Clarence Newman
>>163212989

She's seen Warrior off-channel, Graham. Surprising because she doesn't love fighting that much, but I think the Tom Hardy factor swayed her.

Clarence Newman

Just watched this. First of all, thank you, Cassie. I enjoyed the reaction more than I enjoyed watching the actual film a few weeks ago. I also think it hit you the way it hit me. It wasn’t the violence or the depraved sex particularly. It was just an overall feeling of ‘what the hell did I just watch?’ I imagine if you ‘get’ this movie, it’s great, but if not, you walk away in a cloud of disgruntled perplexion. I suffered the latter.

Chris Thom
>>163216506

If you had any toxic 'friends' growing up this movie makes way too much sense. Not the murder part obviously, but just the general sense of apathy and quiet meanness and zero sum thinking. Definitely had a childhood friend/acquaintance or two where you wonder 'where does this go from here...How much worse does it get?'

Chris Thom
>>163169585

Dark/scary stories definitely have their place in society. Probably not able to articulate exactly why, but they're near universal around the world. Even Disney thought it important to include some scary content in his early movies and theme park. Ironically that creepy Snow White ride was probably my first intro to 'horror'.

Chris Thom
>>163168208

She can veto any movie she wants. And she has. But in general yeah she doesn't want to disappoint the viewers. Which is nice. But she can always draw the line if need be. And I don't think many would hold it against her.

Clarence Newman
>>163216506

I don’t think I had any really toxic friends, but my brother did. His friend was called Raymond “Bunny” Warren. He was a bit of a Neanderthal and his preferred form of “hello” was a half-speed headbutt.

Chris Thom
>>163216506

A really mean girl might be even worse to be honest. Just an emotional spider's web of wtf.

Nicholas Coy

You asked some questions at the end. The novel (Bret Easton Ellis) is about privilage. It was claiming that wealthy white men in the 80s could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and still go on to become President. No matter the crime, no matter the scandal, there will always be zero accountability. In the book published in 1991 the main character Patrick Bateman idolizes Donald Trump. The book uses trump in the 80s as what the novel and by extension the film is satirizing. The author has said that while he thinks the film is harmless that actually putting the novel on film is impossible. He wrote it to be unfilmable.

Milton William Burray
>>163238667

Donald Trump is the most investigated man in America, and shamelessly persecuted in democrat-run states which is why he become more popular every time they brought him up on charges in an obviously corrupt legal system, as well as literally taking shots at him because they couldn't win at the ballot box

Nicholas Coy
>>163238667

Okay. But in 1991 the author of this book thought he was everything wrong with America. At the time to be fair, trump was used as a symbol in in this way in various works of literature, rap music and films. He is the villian in the Back to the Future trillogy. So we can disagree, its not political. But its just a brute fact that this was intended to be a criticism of him, fair or not.

Mark White
>>163216506

Chris that’s rough. Sorry to hear you had some shitty friends. Our closest friends are like our chosen family, you let them in, trust them, so when it turns out your friendship is one sided, it hurts.

Nicholas Coy
>>163238667

Trump in 2025 or anytime after the 80s isn't germane to American Psycho. But in trying to understand the book and the film it helps to know that Donald Trump in the 80s was in the creator's mind.

Mark White

Cassie, well done for getting through that! Not exactly a Cassie movie! But, you did say you wanted to expand your movie horizons and this movie certainly introduced you to, let’s be kind!, something different. Not really my sort of thing either, but I do appreciate Bale’s performance, which as always is top notch. This movie definitely satirises the 80’s yuppies (you got it right, the fish is guppies!) I think you once said you watched “Wall street” 2010 with Shia LaBeouf, or I remember you asking Carly if she had seen it? Anyway it’s a sequel, I wonder if you have seen the first “Wall Street” 1987 Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas. I think it’s worth a watch for you. It certainly covers that 80’s yuppie life and it’s a good movie as well.

Mark White
>>163212989

Yep, Cassie likes her Tom’s! Cassie could do with watching “RocknRolla” with Tom Hardy, Idris Elba and Gerrard Buttler. There’s three names that should grab her attention! Saying that, if we are going with Guy Richie Brit comedy/gangster movies you really should be Lock stock first.

Mark White
>>163238667

Ok guys come on, I think everybody has made their point, let’s try and remember the no politics rule on PiB

V M
>>163238667

I would like to have 1% of Trump's net worth. See how selfless I am? I asked for the lowest non-zero whole number percentage possible

Mr. Crowley

The whole joke is ultimately that the yuppies are so shallow, two-dimensional and interchangeable, that neither Patrick or the audience are ultimately certain if he killed Paul Allen, someone else or anyone at all.

Happy Hanukkah

You will not be surprised that I am left with one overwhelming question: what does a patron have to do to get some fetching potato pancakes?!

Happy Hanukkah
>>163238667

[Non-political joke:] Oh dear. Now I am very disturbed by Cassie's command at 11:07.5: "Kill him in his White House!" (I guess I owe apologies to those who warned us that the movie would break Cassie.)

V M
>>163169585

I like psychological suspense more than graphic violence. I also prefer innocent Cassie over traumatized Cassie :P

V M

She should add the word "American" before Psycho in the description. -- Alfred Hitchcock

BlueChip300

Let's see Paul Allen's reaction.

Michael Siegel

I'm glad you reacted to this movie the same way I did. I'll go against the grain and say I don't care for it. I get what it's going for and can appreciate the performance of Bale. But ultimately, I found it as vapid as the yuppie culture it was satirizing. I know most people disagree and that's fine. To each his own.

Stranger2Reality
>>163169585

I like this movie specifically because it makes me laugh and smile. It does this because it's funny, because it was made to be funny. This movie is a satire, not a horror film. I'm always perplexed by people who don't get that this movie is aiming to be funny, and instead just think it's scary or gross or whatever. Is this because Bateman is the protagonist, so people just assume you're supposed to identify with him or root for him? Sometimes the main protagonist is a bad person and you're not supposed to be cheering for them. I feel like people don't always understand that, which is how you get people mistakenly rooting for characters like Tony Soprano and Walter White. This movie really goes out of its way to portray Patrick Bateman as absurd, someone to be mocked. Most of what he says is funny because of how utterly absurd it is, as are the reactions of virtually everyone around him. I dunno, I've always found this movie to be really funny. I love how off beat and subtle its humor is, rather than being like a lot of overly broad and obvious (though those kinds of comedies can be very fun as well). Maybe the subtlety is lost on people and they instead end up thinking the filmmakers were trying to frighten the audience? I don't know. To each their own, I guess.

Just Plain Bob
>>163289809

I don’t believe that your reaction is all that different than many, myself included. I never particularly liked it. It’s one of those movies that seems to think it’s smarter than it is. And I thought it was a bit heavy handed in its attitude toward Wall Street. It’s fine to critique; I have no issue with that. It’s when a film seems to bludgeon you over the head with its “message” that I don’t care for it. Although I did like the ambiguity regarding how much was in his head vs how much was real. I just wish the entire thing had been a bit more subtle/subdued.

It's a hard movie to love for sure. And I don't think most do love it, actually. But it's just interesting because it presents something fairly real in life and in the culture that just doesn't get presented that much in movies and TV. And I get there's probably a reason for that. But the dark comedy of it all is just weird and kind of hilarious. And it shows an extremity to greed and materialism and self absorption that we do probably need to (collectively) avoid. Do think it's worth seeing. But no it's not that brilliant at all. But the 'basic' of it is part of the charm.

ArsTropica
>>163293995

Yeah, Cassie is like some kind of a reaction ninja... I admit that I sorely underestimated her ability to cope with this type of content.

Chris Thom
>>163293995

Knowing the satire element of the story beforehand really helped her I think. But then again she did know that about Scream too and it didn't seem to translate.

Chris Thom
>>163283350

I haven't heard about him in forever. Except I think he funded that Gehry building by the Space Needle in Seattle.

V M
>>163293995

I think she thought Scream was Scary Movie, or like Scary Movie, a comedy. "I just know that its horror, but maybe kind of silly horror." It wasn't really silly, as she found out. Outro: "That was not the fun kind at all"

Conspiracy Theory has not done well. Only 61K views in 2 weeks.

One of PiB's patreons has a name of "Banned by CineBinge, for no reason. 1 day after purcasing Patreon.. FU"

Not sure why she hasn't watched Lock Stock yet. She enjoyed Snatch and this one is even better.

Happy Hanukkah
>>163283350

Nah, I want Nathan Myhrvold's reaction. As you all know, he's the principal author of a 25-volume encyclopedia on business cards. /humor

Chris Thom
>>163293995

It was more meta humor about the genre in Scream. And some of the characters performances were a bit funny. But yeah probably not a comedy. But I think the humor in that was similar to the humor in this.

Clay F
>>163293995

Scream was just too real to her. She did handle AP better, and seemed conscious of AP being satire (and searching for the satire) while doing the reaction. She went in more informed (and maybe seemed less real to her), but she has also evolved, I think. Maybe becoming more conditioned ('hardened')? I will say that the way she has traditionally experienced a movie -- immersing herself -- experiencing the movie as real -- can be charming. The problem is some scary/horror stuff can be too difficult for that experience. Depends on what you want as her audience. Do you want a conditioned/hardened Cassie not distracted by an immersed reality -- who can more readily have a detached appreciation, or do you want the kind of emotive/empathetic reactions she has given us?

Chris Thom
>>163293995

Don't think it's a total binary. She can do both. As we all can. With horror I know it helps to put some distance in front of what's happening on screen and remember it's only a movie literally designed to have some fun with the fear response. But also at this point she's seen so many, and diverse, films she's naturally moving in that direction anyways. Just what happens with time, age, experience, etc.

Clay F
>>163293995

Yeah, naturally moving in that direction anyways. Yet, it seemed she concentrated on that direction (that progression), making that effort, in her reaction to AP — seemed more sterile and less emotive. But, again, even without her consciously focusing on that growth, she will evolve (at least somewhat) after hundreds and hundreds of movies over years. I likely do not know what I am talking about and everything I said is this reply is gibberish. Could be healthy for her to naturally become more conditioned, hardened, detached, and not feel movies as real. On the other hand, I am somewhat envious of how she becomes immersed in a movie — must be a rich experience for her.

Joe
>>163293995

@Clay, if Cassie ever becomes "not Cassie", LOL...we are in big trouble here. I never watch reactors who just observe a movie.

Chris Thom
>>163293995

Yeah I don't like the adjective sterile for her reactions. That's not good. Other channels are like that and it's not that much fun. But with horror or war movies at least I'm all for whatever she needs to do to protect her heart and mind.

Chris Thom
>>163293995

Pretty cold to ban someone after one day. Oh wait Canadians are protesting, aren't they...

Richard Maurer
>>163293995

I can attest that Cinebinge will ban you if 2 other patrons report you for being abusive - even if you weren’t actually abusive to anyone. For reference nothing I said on Cinebinge was any worse than anything I’ve said here. I complained and received a form letter stating that I was reported twice for being abusive and that I might be reinstated in the future. Never heard from them again - not that I would have rejoined their Patreon if they did contact me.

Cassie back in the 1930's-1950's they had the Hays code which is why is why there was no sex nudity and profanity
