Here is our final poll. The top two from the previous polls face slash off for the top spot! I think this one might be a nail biter!!

only one vote this time!!

Happy appi day, hope everyone just has fun!

Comments

Laura Grubler

Love Frequency and I’m confident you will too!!

Neil Varma

Happy guy Valentine’s Day (SuperBowl day)

Rayna Storie

You know all these movies are good

Matt Winchester

You would LOVE frequency. I hope it wins!

Jacob Gregg

Space cowboys and frequency both amazing movies

djKENTO

U-572? What happened to U-571? Might wanna watch that one first. HA!

Samuel Freeman

Space cowboys is by far the best one up there. It hits all the feels.

David Kent

Still voting for U-571, unless Cassie decided to finance a sequel that I haven't seen. 😂

Jason Henderson

Let’s go to outer space! One more time!

Tina P

Space Cowboys or Frequency 🤞Both awesome

Stick Figure Studios

SPACE COWBOYS and FREQUENCY are both really good and you will like them, so I'd be fine with either winning. HIGH FIDELITY is okay but not a favorite of mine (I find the protagonist extremely unlikable). U-571 isn't quite outright terrible, but it has major problems (and it isn't a patch on the a** of DAS BOOT).

Above Average Dave

Speaking for the group, I think you need to watch all of these. 😁😁

Cole Jennett

I personally prefer High Fidelity on this poll slightly, but I’ve seen female reactors find Rob’s character unlikable, and think that has the potential to repeat itself. I didn’t see it until I saw him through their eyes. I expect Frequency to go over better.

Brett Richey

Any of these apart from U-571 which is garbage.

Above Average Dave

HIGH FIDELITY is when Jack Black became JACK BLACK!!! He steals every scene he's in, including the end (which is not a spoiler). The soundtrack is also A++

Richard Maurer

Going with Space Cowboys over Frequency- because why not

Stick Figure Studios
>>164144211

I rewatched that not too long ago myself and also thought that Rob was one of the worst protagonists I'd ever seen in a comedy.

Rose

Frequency all the way.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Just voted for High Fidelity (2000)! Back when I was at university doing a Media Production degree, there was one special day when we had a screening of High Fidelity (2000) and got to do a special Q&A with its director Stephen Frears. A very nice, friendly guy who answered numerous questions that we had, including the question "Do you regret turning down any movies to direct?" To which he replied "I turned down Thelma & Louise (1991)!" We all gasped and exclaimed "Oh NO!!" and Stephen Frears replied "Yep, that's pretty much what my reaction was!"

Ria Grix

At least it’s not going to be U-571, the movie that tells a very fictionalised version of an event that happened to a British ship seven months before the US entered WWII… but somehow still manages to be an American submarine.

Larry Darrell

A Space Cowboys and Frequency double feature would be Awesoooome!!

Jimmy Reyes

Clint Eastwood as an astronaut. Yes please

Gábor Árki

I like this concept of polling one specific year. Will there be more of these throughout the year? Like 35 in 25 or 15 in 25?

Chris Gibson

How is High Fidelity not ahead!!

Joe

Why percentages this time but actual numbers on the original polls? Also, do we really need 11 days to decide this?

rakesh

Shifting vote from High fidelitt to Frequency. It has the better change to win. Anything else but Space Seniors

Terry Yelmene

For me, the concept of 'Frequency' was just so good. I have to pick that one. The only thing I'd say.... as good as that movie is.... I'd strongly claim that the 'remake' 'Frequency' TV series (2016-2017) was even better!

Stephen Dias

I was torn between "Frequency" and "High Fidelity."

JarHead0351

for me it is U-571 or Space Cowboys - the other two isn't in my wheel house to watch (already seen them both)

Mike Amandes

High Fidelity is my favorite movie on this list, but I think Cassie will enjoy Space Cowboys the most. Happy to see that it's in the lead at the moment.

Anthony Carlson

As Joe pointed out, do we need 11 days to decide which of the 4 Cassie should watch? I’m sure it’s a mistake…

Matt Rose

FREQUENCY gets my vote. I'm cool with the other ones with the caveat that U-571 is terrible history.

Philip G.

Haven't seen any of these . My vote is for sell just saying

Happy Hanukkah
>>164146081

You might well be right, but already? I prefer to give it some more time (and votes) before tactically voting.

Happy Hanukkah
>>164144093

Ah, I see what you're doing. You're trying to bait me into pushing for horror movies! :-)

Andrew Ramos
>>164146081

100% agree. Space Cowboys is such lowbrow cinema. Frequency on the other hand, is mind provoking and a cool out of the box concept.

Variable38

Frequency is such a great movie, I really hope she watches it anyway, even if Space Curmudgeons ends up winning.

Jared Cobb
>>164147601

I bet it's to give everyone who *doesn't* vote for Frequency a chance to fix their vote :)

Just Plain Bob
>>164145878

I have a feeling it’s the result of a mis-click. It makes much more sense for four days. Perhaps she accidentally clicked on Thursday of next week by mistake.

Dan M

God this is way too hard. I’d be fine either Space Cowboys, Frequency, or U-571. So my odds of being excited for which ever movie wins this poll are pretty good.

Chris Thom

Kind of a hard decision. But I know the YouTube channel audience has been wanting Frequency for so long. Guess I'll go with that.

Darren Harrison
>>164147637

Agreed. I normally love submarine movies but U-571 makes zero sense, the Allies were reading Enigma messages in real time when the U.S. entered the war. My vote is for “Frequency”

mikethemotormouth

I know that I shouldn't be surprised I no longer have a horse in this race...and yet...

Chris Thom
>>164144302

He was around for a while but yeah he totally changed his MO with that one.

Above Average Dave
>>164144093

LOL - I knew I should've ducked when I wrote that. But hey, more Cassie & Carly = more joy for everyone, right?

Richard Maurer
>>164148072

I barely voted for Space Cowboys. If someone gives a good reason to vote Frequency I will.

LDC7080

Frequency is a brilliant movie. So different and the cast are stellar.

Above Average Dave
>>164144302

So weird that I saw ENEMY OF THE STATE (a personal fave) after HIGH FIDELITY and there's Jack Black in a small but substantial role playing it straight as can be. Just...Odd. I also knew his original attorney/agent well and who told me Jack was one of only two clients he had to give the "Life is too short" speech and cut him loose. I guess he was 24-7 high maintenance even before he started getting speaking roles.

V M
>>164146081

and here's something I just learned Richard: theyre not even real cowboys! *writes in Scary Movie again*

Dean Holt

Definitely going to be between Frequency and Space Cowboys. Pick SC just because it’s a fun movie and I don’t think we get enough of them on the channel plus the chemistry between Eastwood and Jones is fantastic. But if Frequency win I’m perfectly cool with that as it’s a very good film.

Chris Thom
>>164144211

Was just thinking that. Wondering if she would actually like any of the characters. Jack Black is always fun though.

Cole Jennett
>>164145878

I think maybe it’s percentages when it’s a single vote, and total numbers in a multi-selection

Cole Jennett
>>164144302

Cable Guy was my first experience with Jack Black. “I’ve never made a thlam dunk before, Thankth for the bootht!”

JohnB

U-572, I didn't know there was a sequel! :)

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS
>>164145019

Well, who knows! He's a very good director, we also had a screening of My Beautiful Launderette (1985) which stars a very young Daniel Day Lewis, which along with along with A Room With a View (1985) was the two films that launched Daniel Day Lewis' career.

Clarence Newman
>>164156830

That would've been a great idea. If they'd've called it U-572, they could then have put up the standard disclaimer: "The characters and events depicted in this motion picture are entirely fictitious, and any similarity to names or incidents is entirely coincidental."

Clarence Newman

Gotta be Space Cowboys. I love "old fart" movies, starring legends of the screen in their dotage. There's something delightfully nostalgic about them.

John Cranberry
>>164156830

Is it any good? Haven't seen it and not really intertested. The Hunt for Red October is my only go to submarine movie. Hope frequency wins.

Chris Thom
>>164145019

Gotta look him up. The name sounds very familiar (probably because of High Fidelity) but I don't know anything about him.

Clarence Newman
>>164156830

Haven't seen it either, John. Don't really have a desire to. Cassie's got a reaction to Das Boot on here, though. That one's worth a watch.

D. T. Nelson

Space Cowboys is okay, but Frequency is so much better.

zynjams

I saw so many GREAT movies on your list the other night. and this is what have to choose from, ugh.

Just Plain Bob
>>164156830

Clarence, they could have put in that disclaimer anyway. Nothing remotely like the events depicted in the film ever happened to U-571. The real U-571 was simply sunk in combat. I understand they put in a disclaimer at the end of the movie when it was released to video after its theatrical run, due in large part to the British government lodging a formal protest to the film’s gross distortion of real life events. The disclaimer apparently acknowledged that the Brits were responsible for having accomplished what’s depicted in the film (though not in the fashion depicted). So that’s something. Even ignoring the glaring issue of stolen valor, as a film it’s simply not in the same league as “Das Boot.”

Lyle Morgan
>>164144211

He's completely unlikable, but that's what makes it unique in a world of carbon copy romcoms.

Joe
>>164158329

Both are entertaining films, apples to oranges.

Nicholas Coy

High Fidelity was one of my favorite movies as a young man. Definitely captures the feeling of being a single broke guy.

Archronos

I'm so happy to see so much support for Frequency. Such a horribly underrated and fantastic film that not enough people have heard of

JAKH
>>164156830

"U-572" is the sequel to "U-571", which is a fictional movie _very_ loosely inspired by the real life capture of U-505. Both "Das Boot" (1981) and "Greyhound" (2020) are much better. Cassie already reacted to "Das Boot"

Clay F

My top two preferences are High Fidelity and Frequency. As for Space Cowboys, I am not a big fan of "gang of old farts" movies.

Variable38
>>164148072

Because Space cowboys is so predictable and hammy, you dont even need to watch it to know whats going to happen. Its paint by numbers.

Paul B

Gotta go with a high fidelity, the main character is a it grating I will grant you, but the entire thing was so fresh back then, and we get to see a tenacious d origin story. (sorta)

Vwlss Nvwls

I am torn, there are three great movies on here (and one I have never seen). How do I choose?

Brian Lowery

High Fidelity was a zeitgeist film. Like Singles, Saturday Night Fever, and Easy Rider, it captured a very specific culture at a very specific time. Not sure it lands the same today for younger viewers, but it’s a good bit of nostalgia for the rest of us.

David Collins

U-571 would be the best movie on this poll, if it were actually on the poll. It's one of the highest tension movies ever made. High Fidelity is amazing as well, with a lot less tension. Frequency is probably the one Cassie will like the best, a complete gem of a movie, and what I voted for even though I technically probably like the first two I mentioned better. So, of course, Space Cowboys will win because it represents the most disappointed I've ever been as a movie goer, particularly one who loves all of the top billed cast. I saw it one time only, in the theatre, so I guess if it wins I'll have to give it a second chance.

Jacob King
>>164168324

As someone who is a fan of the book, movie and TV show I’d say one of the cool things about High Fidelity is you can change the setting, the music and the characters and the underlying story still works. Like, the lesson is we aren’t defined by our favourite movies and albums but by our relationships and that is universal.

Chris Thom
>>164168324

I always hard a hard time picking out the underlying message of that one to be honest. Maybe because the first time I saw it I had to leave and never got the last fifteen minutes of it. I actually don't know what High Fidelity even means. That's related to albums?

YodatheHobbit

Only just now realized that the movie I thought was U-571 is actually K-19: The Widowmaker and I've never seen U. Gonna vote for Frequency this time.

Jaret Morlan

I remain simply baffled by these poll results. Guess I have to go back and watch Space Cowboys again; my memory of it is not that favorable.

Clay F
>>164169399

Space Cowboys has a stellar cast but definitely is a disappointment.

Just Plain Bob
>>164168324

Electronics manufacturers used to brag that their stereo systems were “high fidelity”, i.e. the sound reproduction was high quality. Ironic since vinyl doesn’t reproduce the original sound as well as cds or streaming. But some audiophiles swear that vinyl recordings produce a fuller sound.

Clay F
>>164146081

rakesh -- ditto. Doing the same for same reason. Changed my vote from High Fidelity to Frequency.

Clay F

Changed my vote from High Fidelity to Frequency because Frequency has the best chance to beat Space Curmudgeons. Geezers in space. "Even star power can get lost in space."

Vincent

All are great movies BUT Frequency is the best among these options.

Above Average Dave

Cassie: "So, we were playing "Opposite Day" with the kids and it inspired me. So, I am going to watch...The loser of the Poll!" 🤣

Bill Isaacs

Knowing your reactions now I'd say your favorite of all of these will be High Fidelity.

Roger Banks

How did U-572 get in this poll? That movie is so historically inaccurate it ought to be banned.

Benjamin Gerrald

For the record, U571 is a made up movie and is an insult to the actual history.

D. T. Nelson
>>164158329

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Space Cowboys. I like the actors in it and it's fun, but it isn't exactly filled with "reaction moments"

Mark Vaderr

Too bad that we are doing a poll like this right now. 2000 was not a good year for movies.

Seymor Butz

Come on FREQUENCY. Been waiting for years for this one.

Clay F
>>164182410

I guess the voting plurality here consider Space Cowboys the best movie of 2000.

christopher b swanson

u-571 is losing..............all on the list should be seen but u571 is the most underrated action flick, war flick ever........PLEASE WHEN U WATCH IT, DO SO WITH CARLY................young Mathew mccounhey in uniform ladies...........

V M

Movie makers often take creative liberties to produce a more compelling story, even if it strays from historical accuracy.

Larry Darrell
>>164145245

I’ve been thinking this for a long time. She has seen so many films by now, that it wouldn’t be hard to make a poll for any year. Just like she was doing with the Oscar polls, but instead of Oscars, all films from that year. Pick a random year 1930 - to now, once a month. No repeats for 12 months, then reset every year.

Christopher B.

U-571 is a good movie to whet someone's appetite for a real-deal Sub movies, but since Cassie has already watched the almighty (and WILDLY more authentic/historically accurate) Das Boot, I think I'm good with any of the other three.

Chris Thom
>>164182410

Really thought of it as the year of teen rom coms and sex comedies. Might be off by a year or two though.

Rick Williams
>>164177931

This isn't a historical movie poll. It's a poll of movies from 2000. That is the only qualification needed.

Mark Vaderr
>>164182410

Well, Cassie has already seen "Gladiator" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." I thought "Traffic" would do better in the polling. Most of the movies in the previous poll weren't that good.

Dan

PLEASE - No boring Space Cowboys.!!!

zynjams
>>164158373

what are you talking about? i was talking her list she showed on her pick a flick

Luke Godfrey

I voted for High Fidelity. While I'm sure Cassie would enjoy Space Cowboys, I think she'd love High Fidelity. Too bad it's not going to win.

Ben Schwartz
>>164177931

It made it onto this poll because it did well in a prior poll. People like the movie. Nobody is forcing you to watch if it wins.

christopher b swanson
>>164184428

it is a fake story, but set in a historical setting, but it is a great fun action movie they will find pulse pounding to the end...........

Clay F
>>164182410

Mark, generally agree w/what you are saying. There are several movies from the polls that are better than Space Cowboys imo. See below. IMDb 7.7, RT 85% (audience 89%) = Billy Elliot IMDb 7.6, RT 93% (audience 85%) = Traffic (won 4 Oscars) IMDb 7.5, RT 93% (audience 88%) = Best in Show IMDb 7.4, RT 91% (audience 90%) = High Fidelity IMDb 7.4, RT 70% (audience 81%) = Frequency IMDb 7.3, RT 74% (audience 79%) = Finding Forrester IMDb 6.7, RT 85% (audience 70%) = State and Main IMDb 6.5, RT 78% (audience 53%) = Space Cowboys I wanted Traffic, High Fidelity, Finding Forrester (Sean Connery, F. Murray Abraham), or Frequency.

christopher b swanson
>>164186996

no, it's a great fun action movie they will love as it is a pulse-pounding adventure.........the fact it is fake doesn't change anything, most historical setting movies are fake................i think the best ww2 movie to me was saving private ryan.......that's fake, doesnt matter

V M

I had to look up what appi day was. Is this poll really running for 10 days? I voted for High Fidelity.

Christopher B.
>>164186996

@christopher b swanson: while I don't argue that u-571 is a very captivating movie, unfortunately they picked for the story focal point a very specific and well-documented history (Allied forces capture & cracking of the enigma device), and I am strongly in favor of as much preservation of fact as possible when it comes to history dramatization. IMO, U-571 is very entertaining from a fantasy standpoint, but considering the recency of the events it's terrible at informing the general public on history.

Dean Holt
>>164156830

John not sure if you’ve seen these other Submarine films but I’d highly recommend them. Crimson Tide (Gene Hackman & Denzel Washington, Cassie & Carly have reacted to it already) K-19: The Widowmaker (With Harrison Ford) Greyhound (Tom Hanks) it’s very good but it’s about ships getting hunted by German U-Boats in WW2. As regards to U-571 it’s a good action film & worth a watch, I’d give it a solid 7/10. It just shouldn’t have been about them capturing the Enigma machine as it annoyed a lot of people. Instead it could have been about capturing a new German sub or some secret documents.

Brian Lowery
>>164168324

That’s what I mean about it being a zeitgeist film. It is to Gen Xers (like me) what Easy Rider was to boomers.

Hutch

High Fidelity is losing to Space Cowboys?!? Nooooooooooooo ... "Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do's and don'ts. First of all you're using someone else's poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing."

Darren Harrison
>>164186996

U-571 has no tension because everyone watching the movie knows that the code breakers at Bletchley Park outside London had already broken the Nazi Enigma code by the time the U.S. entered WWIi. This transforms “U-571” into an absurd ridiculous farce and a slap in the face to the brilliant people who actually worked on breaking the code.

Darren Harrison

I am surprised nobody has pointed out that one of these films doesn’t exist

christopher b swanson
>>164186996

a slap in the face would be denying reality, but they don't, the end credits of the movie go over the timeline of history and acknowledge it's not a real story........... it's a popcorn action movie that will lead more people to look up the actual history.................also 99% of history movies arent real or factual.................but at least this one acknowledges, and shows the timeline and real history at the end credits...........relax, it's a movie that never claimed to be true

christopher b swanson
>>164184428

no it isnt, because it doesnt say its real, and at end of credits it shows timeline and facts............no other fake movie does that, and the fact they openly acknowledge is a celebration of the truth and allows people to know and that they can look it up..........so grow up

Milton William Burray
>>164186996

Saving Private Ryan is historical fiction where the personal stories & protagonists live through historical events that did actually happen. U571 is worse than fake, it jingoistically perverts history and is guilty of stolen valour

Hutch
>>164211384

I thought maybe she got access to the long-lost sequel to U-571

Milton William Burray
>>164186996

@Chris, the apology at the end credits was only added after survivors of the original engagement complained about the liberties Mostow was taking with an event that King George VI described as the most important single action in the war. Lieutenant Commander David Balme, who actually carried the Enigma machine out of the U-110, expressed outrage at the American usurpation of a heroic British feat. In an effort to limit the criticisms, the filmmakers later promised Balme to put full written credit at the end of the movie, outlining the actual history

Milton William Burray
>>164184428

The 'historical setting' being that 7 months after the movie is set Germany would declare war on the USA - so even claiming America was at war at this time is fake. There are liberties with history for dramatic effect and there's U-571

christopher b swanson
>>164184428

the actual 1st enigma was captured 7 months prior to our going to war but the movie plot according to google and imdb says 1942................not movie sold as true story or documentary and at end they show timeline and facts...........name another not real history movie that's makes clear its fake.................also 99% of history movies are fake................

Richard Maurer
>>164178123

There’s a reason they always say “based on historical fact” the operative word being based. If you’re looking for historical accuracy in film watch a documentary.

Richard Maurer

You’ve all convinced me. I’m changing my vote to Frequency. Mostly because I don’t really care about either film. If anyone cares enough to try and make me change back, I’ll listen.

Joe

PIB Team - Is this poll really running 11 days, or was that an error?

Richard Maurer
>>164231106

Anyway Space Cowboys is currently winning and I hate voting for popular movies. It makes me feel like a sell-out.

Richard Maurer
>>164148072

After reading the comments I have changed to Frequency. But I posted above that Space Cowboy fans could try and change my vote back. They deserve the same chance I gave Frequency fans.

Milton William Burray
>>164184428

That this film draws attention to how false & misleading Hollywood's historical movies can be is a good thing at least

Milton William Burray
>>164178123

@ Richard, Saying U-571 is based on historical fact would be like a movie where the Americans fought on the side of Germany in WWII, or China bombed Pearl Harbour, and saying 'it's not a documentary but based on true events'

Joe
>>164173067

I really enjoyed "Space Cowboys"...much better than "Son In-Law". 😆

Clarence Newman
>>164231106

Ergo you should vote for the underdog (Frequency) until it pulls ahead of Space Cowboys, at which point Space Cowboys becomes the underdog and you can switch again. I myself am pulling for the “old fart” fest.

Richard Maurer
>>164231106

Might I remind you that I don’t really care which film wins? Otherwise I wouldn’t have changed my vote in the first place. You’re going to have to do better than that if you want me to change my vote back.

Chris Thom
>>164231106

The biggest bullies the world has ever known all loved Space Cowboys. Fun Fact: they used to abuse horror fans and never apologized. Not even on Facebook years later.

Richard Maurer
>>164178123

@Milton - all I’m really saying is to take everything you see in movies that are based in the real world with a whole shaker of salt. Search engines are your friends where historical films are concerned. This is why I prefer fiction - you don’t have to worry so much about reality getting in the way of a good story.

Joe
>>164233958

I had mentioned a variation on this very early in the comments. My suggestion was have a run-off poll of the two 2nd place winners to get the 3rd movie.

Stick Figure Studios

While I atill prefer SPACE COWBOYS, I switched my vote to FREQUENCY (which I'm fine with winning) just to make it more interesting.

Clarence Newman
>>164231106

Richard. As Space Cowboys is still holding a comfortable lead, I am holding all the cards. I can therefore 'old fart' in your general direction.

Chris Thom
>>164231106

There are some great quotes in that. Hope she watches it eventually. Curious if she'll actually like it, though.

Chris Thom
>>164182410

That's one I was thinking of. And American Pie. And the Cinderella goes to prom one where they dance with pre-planned choreography but she's still sad because she finds out it was a bet.

Chris Thom
>>164168324

I'm curious what you think of as some of the quintessential Gen X movies Dave? I want to say Heathers is one but that was always probably an odd duck.

Milton William Burray
>>164178123

@Richard, yeah we understand liberties are taken with history, particularly with a view to creating dramatic tension for the sake of making a more exciting movie, and it is good that this film was at least forced to include a correction in the closing credits outlining the actual history bastardised over the previous 2 hours. It would be fun if Mel Gibson movies were forced to do that

Joe
>>164231106

IMO, she's just going to watch the top 2, maybe even top 3. Fewer movies she has to sort out for the upcoming schedule.

Richard Maurer
>>164231106

Chris - Clarence thinks Rhinestone and Cannonball Run were good movies. So his is not a opinion I need to concern myself with.

Joe
>>164231156

Happy Hanukkah

Above Average Dave
>>164208941

I was a DJ in college and basically one of these guys since high school AND went through some gut-twisting break-ups during college and my early 20s, so HIGH FIDELITY hit me right between the eyes, pierced into my gray matter, took a hard right-angle turn into my heart and soul and gave me happy feet along the way. All that said, Cusack's character is a rather unlikable protagonist as other people mention. But that sort of goes with the film's arc (and is true to the book). Which is all to say, not sure if Cassie would like it, either, though I think she'd love the ending all the way around.

It’s more fun here than other reactors comment sections. And Cassie can make reactions to movies I don’t really care about entertaining. But if I was looking for Cassie’s favor I’m doing a real poor job of it. I’ll always be the black knight, as long as I’m here anyway.

Blaze118

Come on Frequency!!!!

>>164208941

Damn. Glowing recommendation. I really need to see this again. Been like 14 years and mostly just remember 'Yeah Lisa Bonet was hot, but..." with a lot of that. And Jack Black dancing in a video store or something. Plus I was totally obsessed with music while I was still stoning.

Joe

Curious what the patreon schedule will be this week, I guess she watches the next ape flick and My Fair Lady, what else? This poll will still be running all week.

Steve Holton
>>164284090

Joe, in the Extra Butter chat Cassie mentioned "Dazed And Confused" (1993) was possible this week.

Joe
>>164284090

Thanks Steve. DaC: 93% RT, 7.6 IMDB. Clay will be happy, LOL.

Verteron

How is Frequency losing to Space Cowboys? This is like the TNG polls with people picking mid Q episodes instead of the better episodes of the season. Need some of those U-571 people to switch those votes.

Mike Lemon
>>164284090

Why not just wait until Tuesday, the day she normally posts the schedule? Then Thursday, Saturday, Sunday for the full reactions with Monday for a backup. Just like every damn week. That has been the "schedule" for years.

This is not based on anything though. "the fictitious plot attracted substantial criticism. British sailors from HMS Bulldog captured the first naval Enigma machine from U-110 in the North Atlantic in May 1941, seven months before the United States entered the war and three years before the US Navy captured U-505 and its Enigma machine.[3] Anger over the film’s inaccuracies reached the House of Commons, where the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, called the film an "affront" to British sailors.[4]" -u571 wiki

Someone who has answered this question a lot, even a couple times from you. Patience. Wait until the day she nearly always does what she does and all your questions are answered.

How is it that "Frequency" is getting so much love in the comments but it is not winning? Looking for converts from "U-571" or "High Fidelity". Let's push "Frequency" to a win!

Darren Harrison
>>164303140

I voted for “Frequency”…we need some strategic voting to stop “Space Cowboys”…I suggest people switch their votes to “Frequency” like I did (I initially voted for “High Fidelity”) since “Frequency” has the better shot of stopping “Space Cowboys”

Kris

Come on Frequency! Such an under-rated film!

thebeefmaster

It looks like it is very unlikely that "U-571" will win. Please consider changing your vote to "Frequency". Thank you.

I'll agree with you on "Billy Elliott" and "Traffic". "Best in Show" is nice too. I thought "High Fidelity" and "State and Main" were nothing special. Some of the other movies on the polls which you did not list are real woofers.

Mark Vaderr
>>164182410

You mean "She's All That"? I get the feeling that is a movie that Cassie grew up watching. Such a pity, because anything with Freddie Prinze Jr. must be avoided at all costs. Also, that movie is more "Pygmalion" than "Cinderella".

Luke Godfrey
>>164193704

A little advice, if you want people to change their vote, don’t quote the wrong movie they voted for. It shows a lack of conviction in your request.

TheSingulatarian

I guess Frequency is popular. Even being a science fiction and fantasy fan, I always found the conceit that a son was talking with his father through time on a magic radio a bit silly.

Clay F
>>164303140

Darren, ditto. I initially voted High Fidelity but changed to Frequency (which I like) in an effort to stop Space Cowboys.

Clay F
>>164182410

Mark, true, some I did not list from the 2 polls are woofers.

Stick Figure Studios
>>164309988

I think that is the very thing that makes the film so universally appealing. As Roger Ebert observed in his 3.5 star review, "Here is a movie that uses the notion of time travel to set up a situation where a man in 1999 is able to talk to his father in 1969, even though his father died when the man was 6. The movie harnesses this notion to a lot of nonsense, including a double showdown with a killer, but the central idea is strong and carries us along. There must be something universal about our desire to defeat time, which in the end defeats us."

Clay F

Below are some movies from the 2 polls for most-preferred movie of 2000 (Gladiator was off the table). Only given below are user/audience scores (no critics). IMDb 7.7, RT audience 89% = Billy Elliot IMDb 7.6, RT audience 85% = Traffic IMDb 7.5, RT audience 88% = Best in Show IMDb 7.4, RT audience 90% = High Fidelity IMDb 7.4, RT audience 81% = Frequency IMDb 7.3, RT audience 79% = Finding Forrester IMDb 6.7, RT audience 70% = State and Main IMDb 6.5, RT audience 53% = Space Cowboys I wanted Traffic, High Fidelity, Finding Forrester, or Frequency.

Clay F
>>164309988

TheSingulatarian, maybe so, but the premise of Space Cowboys is also silly.

Dean Holt
>>164311585

I’ve never seen Best in Show (just sounds boring lol) and State & Main. But out of the rest Space Cowboys is my favourite with Frequency 2nd. I wasn’t a fan of Traffic but I’d be willing to give it another watch as I saw it when it came out. So I might have a different opinion of it now. But this is why I don’t pay much attention to the rating, if it’s a film I’m not sure about I’ll watch the trailer and find out who in it and who directed. If it looks interesting I’ll watch it at the cinema if not I’ll still might give it a go when it comes the streaming.

Dean Holt
>>164303140

Space Cowboys is so much fun though, I’m not saying if Frequency didn’t win I’d be unhappy. IMO we don’t see enough silly fun movies on here. And any film with Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland (kinda acting a bit like he did in Kelly’s Hero’s) has to be a reason to watch on its own.

Dean Holt
>>164309988

Clay, Space Cowboys does have a silly premise but it a film that doesn’t take its self too seriously. Frequency has a completely different tone and is supposed to be a more serious movie. Also the best parts of SC is the interaction between Eastwood, Jones and Sutherland (who’s kinda acting like his character in Kelly’s Heroes). If it doesn’t win I’d highly recommend watching it as it’s just a fun watch.

Cole Jennett
>>164242971

Its a guys movie, I don’t expect her to love it like we do. That’s why I leaned Frequency

Apollo838
>>164242971

Really? I don’t know… I guess it is, I never really thought of it like that. Still it’s got a love story and some good dialogue , I’m pretty sure she’d like it. She seems to enjoy slice of life, and I think that’s kinda a slice of life movie

Nolofinwe

Frequency is a very underrated movie even though it was popular today it’s an excellent film

Clay F
>>164311585

When selecting among thousands of movies to spend my limited time watching, I consider multiple sources of information. The consensus among hundreds of thousands of IMDb users and RT audience regular people can be helpful, though I don't always agree. I typically agree more with RT critics rating. Though, sometimes when a movie has a high RT critic rating but low RT audience score or low IMDb rating, the movie can be too esoteric for me. Yet, again, the RT rating (critics) has done me right -- the proof is in the pudding. I also look at individual critics who I tend to agree with. Plus, I ask family/friends.

Clay F
>>164311585

The Space Cowboys trailer did nothing for me -- it actually turned me off. Then, when I watched the movie, I couldn't finish. Too corny. Too ridiculous. Thus, in the case of Space Cowboys, I am more in line with the mediocre reviews. Another useful data point for me. Though, I am hoping the acting and special effects will salvage the movie for me on this watch 20 years later. Plus, in my old age, I am less cynical, and without a stringent focus on realism as I had when I was younger.

Joe
>>164309988

I don't see movies as "good" or "bad", they each just bring something completely different to the viewer. If I worried about silly plots and such, I probably wouldn't have watched many movies in my life. I like a pretty wide range of genres.

Dean Holt
>>164311585

Clay that fair enough if that’s how you pick movies, the thing is about SC and others silly movies like it. Face/Off being a good recent example on here, you’ve really got to switch off the brain and just go with it lol. If you don’t and just go in to pick up all the films faults you’re definitely not going to enjoy or like it.

Dean Holt

So close but glad Space Cowboys is winning so far. Personally thought because they are close I really hope Cassie decides to watch both or them.

Clay F
>>164311585

Dean, Face/Off is a great example. I admit I readily accept that premise so to be able to enjoy the movie.

JC762

How about some of you u-572 guys change your vote over to Frequency? 🤷‍♂️😀

Benjamin Gerrald
>>164186996

Well it was sort of broken but there was a series of escalations in Enigma that required continuous work. By the end of the war there was a whole series of Bombe machines working in parallel, none of which was covered in Imitation game. But you are right, this is my main objection to the film, along with the fact that the british actually pulled off taking down an actual uboat to capture a never version of Enigma.

McShades
>>164311585

Most of those movies that you listed are good, but to be honest there not the type of movies you want to watch over and over again. I mean Traffic is excellent, but I have no desire to watch it again. For me Space Cowboys is one of those fun movies you can watch multiple times.

Clay F
>>164311585

I have watched Finding Forrester a zillion times -- never get tired of that movie. I have watched Traffic several times over the years and each time stunned by Benicio Del Toro's Oscar winning performance. Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and a young Erika Christensen (awesome) are all excellent. If I ever want to be absorbed in a gripping story, I can always put on Traffic as an option. Oscar nomination for Best Picture is well deserved.

Iben Frederiksen

You will like Frequency the most, it has everything you like in a movie lol

Clay F

Frequency lost. We tried. Closed the gap to 2%. Space Curmudgeons won. I am changing my vote from Frequency back to my original vote High Fidelity (also lost).

Joe

Space Cowboys: 370 votes, Frequency: 351 votes. Only 36% of paying patrons voted on the poll.

Clarence Newman
>>164580459

Seems a very low number, Joe. I sincerely hope the ones who didn't vote don't then complain about the results.

Joe
>>164580459

Cassie has around 3300 paying patrons. If I pay, I'm gonna play. I always vote and some of us are also active in the comments and suggest movies, might as well...we're the only ones Cassie sees.

Drew

I vote you watch Frequency too! One more movie never hurt!

Chris Thom

D. T. Nelson
>>164580459

Unless I have no interest in any of the options I will always cast a vote, too (though I often miss the YouTube polls because I don't hear about them until they are over). Sometime I wonder why I vote, though. My choice rarely wins—like this time. Don't get me wrong, Space Cowboys is a fun movie. I love all the actors and their interaction is great. It's also been a while since I've seen it, so I'm sure I'll watch the reaction. BUT, it isn't really a movie that lends itself to reactions. There aren't many big moments from what I remember. Frequency, on the other hand, is a movie made for reaction channels. It's all fine though. Not every movie she watches needs to be a movies that spark great reactions like Face/Off, Silence of the Lambs, and Lord of the Rings; or have huge reveals like Usual Suspects, Sixth Sense, and Arrival; or be one of the must-see classics like the recent Breakfast at Tiffany's and My Fair Lady. I guess I'd just like for my choices to make it to the top a little more often. [insert plug for Hidalgo, The Fisher King, French Kiss, Secondhand Lions, Finding Forrester, and, of course, Frequency.]
