Hey my friends! March Movie Madness is in full swing and we have a sweet 16! A lot of great movies still fighting it out! I thought it would be fun to take the top 15 and put the ones that didn't make the bracket (64) at all . I left out Interstellar because that will technically be a rewatch, as well as Collateral because I am planning on watching that already in April.

Only one vote this time!

Comments

Michael

These are all solid!

LukeG84

I really hope City Slickers wins.

Monte Durbin

City Slickers is hillarious!

kaiielle

Monty Python! Easy vote! 😊

TJ

I went with Monty Python but these are all great.

Matthew Brown

City slickers and monty python YES!!!

Stephen Malloy

The Blues Brothers is the greatest movie musical of all time! Because I said so.

Starpartyguy

Blues Brothers is a classic. Belushi has a performance that rivals Animal House!

Rosario

There are some great movies here but City slickers and hopefully the much better City slickers 2 will be great reaction video/s compared to the rest. That being said, I hope training day wins!!

GomezAddams

I love how you do some of the non-winners anyways. Hope is a beautiful thing. Thanks for all you do and have a great week! 🎥🍿🧝‍♀️👏🫶

Shad Kanyak

I was actually thinking earlier today you’d like Twins. It’s a guy friendly chick flick.

WestBound

Holy Grail is the most overrated movie of all time . It's caveman humor . Low hanging fruit has a humor . The scary move franchise has funnier humor . I get it was probably funny in 1925 but it's just dad Jokes . Ha ha ha.

Jay Jay Reyes

This movie is what you hoped Robin Hood: Men In Tights would be. It's a league above: Airplane! The Movie. I hope this your choice!!!

Chris Retzlaff

Monty python is fun for first time reactors....but for me a bit played out. Casino and Twins would be my top choices. Any of these are awesone....Blues Brothers is a quintessential watch

Justin S.

Children of Men is one of the best films of the 2000s for sure. I liked it better than several films that have won Best Picture in recent years.

Just React!

No offense but if your followers are picking Monty Python, you've got some lame followers

Joe Mallard

Which means she'll probably enjoy it..

JohnnyUtah

I really don't think monty python is cassies thing, but if it wins it wins... city slickers is comedic gold imo

JPDotCom23

Ugh, another poll where Monty Python wins

John Armbruster

I picked City Slickers because I think she'd like it, but the Holy Grail is my core memory movie. I just don't think she'd get it or like it. I'm still not over her 5th Element reaction 😞

Just React!

This was the straw that broke the camel's back I'm sorry I'm unsubscribing for a while

Richard Maurer

If you think I care what you think look at the post above yours - no offence

Blake Evans

Cassie, you’re killing me! These are all great picks. But I’m sticking with City Slickers. It’s the most nostalgic and the most fun.

Seymor Butz

Monty python is a classic, but you can't beat city slickers for a good Cassie Reaction.

Jeff

Still very early but Monty Python is in lead right now. I will say that I think a particular sense of humor is necessary to enjoy Monty Python and I’m not sure Cassie has it (that is in no way a criticism).

Shawn Kildal

As soon as I saw it on the list I knew it was going to win. I voted for Training Day though.

Jason Henderson

Cassie twins is one of Arnold’s biggest accomplishments as far as he’s concerned. Casino is very jarring and not unlike goodfellas . Training day was to me one of Denzel’s greatest performances! I can’t speak for the others , but you can’t really go wrong with these three. I hope twins comes out on top , the dynamic s of Arnold and devito worked so well together! They had a blast making it! And with director Ivan reitman believing in Arnold’s vision, they had a huge success!!! 🍿👍!! Great poll 😊!!

Shawn Kildal

I was hoping to see Dirty Harry on the poll. Fetch.

Just Plain Bob

I voted for “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” because it’s not only hilarious but a seminal memory of my senior year of high school. In early 1987, as graduation approached, a group of buddies and I got together for an all night party. We called it “Geek Fest.” We stayed up all night playing Dungeons and Dragons, eating pizza and drinking Jolt Cola (twice the caffeine of regular cola) and watching movies on the ole VCR (particularly “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and “Ladyhawke”). I had never seen either movie before and was totally enraptured by both. Not only did I vote for Monty Python, but I really hope Cassie reacts to “Ladyhawke” one day. “Ladyhawke” stars Matthew Broderick (aka Ferris Bueller), Rutger Hauer (Roy Batty the lead replicant in “Blade Runner”) and Michelle Pfeiffer (aka one of the only women whose beauty rivals that of Grace Kelly). I think it would make a great reaction.

Rick Williams

Yes indeed. Monty Python? Waste of time. I like intelligent comedy. Not ridiculous and absurd skits made into a movie.

Henry Graham

I'm not sure Monty Python will be Cassie's thing at all, and I think Children of Men is one of the defining films of 21st century cinema, but it seems this poll is done and dusted even at this early stage.

Thoko

Hm.... I've never really been a fan of Monty Python. I'm not really into that style of comedy. I much prefer when the Brits do things like the original (UK) Office series

WestBound

Patreon is full of AARP subs as well

Johnny

I voted Blues Brothers because it's just such a fun movie with amazing music. I'm fine with Monty Python though. It's so silly, but it's funny and a classic.

Cole Jennett

Yeah, why give the people what they want? The list was made from the top requested movies. Terrible decision, lol

WestBound

Or cringe to it . Example of MPHG humor: "I got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning "..cut to a person waking up in bed with a sign that says wrong side . Hahahahhahahahahahahah hilarious !!!!

John

In case you didn't hear, Jolt Cola is coming back, lol!!!

Clay F

All movies in the poll are good, except Twins. Monty Python and the Holy Grail will typically dominate a poll. My top 2 choices are Children of Men (awesome) and The Blues Brothers (nostalgia).

John

I m waiting for Ladyhawke too.

DarthRandal1138

Literally any of the films would make great reactions. You should keep the ones that don’t win on a list to pull from at a later date.

Jerry Cummings

Cassie, I have to agree Montry Python requires background history to get some of the humor. It is a good movie, but requires a lot of understanding. My pick was City Slickers and it's sequel. The sequel is better that original. But, you need to watch original to fully understand second.

Cole Jennett

Coincidentally it was 20 years ago today that the American version of “The Office” debuted. But couldn’t have happened without the Brit version first!🇬🇧

WestBound

You mean IQ below 80 enjoys it

Just Plain Bob

I’m surprised Jolt’s not banned. That stuff would jump start your heart like a defibrillator paddle. I used to drink one after the other when I pulled all nighters in high school and the first year or two of college. Then I’d crash for fifteen hours after the exam was through.

Kevin Hooper

City Slickers is just so good.

Clay F

Denzel won an Oscar. His Oscar-winning performance is enough reason to watch Training Day.

pat on

never understood why Monty Python was popular, lame predictable jokes bad acting terrible special effects it's like somebody made a deal with the devil to make everyone think they were funny.

Clay F

I disagree. Not good.

cfb0453 (Chris)
>>168823026

I agree Clay! Holy Grail is a great movie, but it requires too much research to fully appreciate. I think Cassie would be better off watching a few Flying Circus episodes first. The Blues Brothers and Children of Men would be more up her alley!

FranciscoGios

Twins a good healthy and close to the heart watch. Holy Grail is a fun classic.

Dean Holt

Cole, Agree I think it’s a good comedy

Oisin Clissmann

I agree, it's amazing. It looks like it won't win this poll but it is multiple patron's pick a flick choice every month so there is a chance it will win someday.

Uncle Phoenix

I might have to rewatch the sequel. I’ve always loved the first City Slickers.

Cole Jennett

Still think his Oscar win for that movie was making up for him losing for The Hurricane.

John Liebling

Monty Python is hilarious, but I strongly feel Cassie would enjoy City Slickers a lot more.

Jeff

No, not really. Some might say the Monty Python troupe’s humor is very clever. Others might say it’s just nonsense. Still others might think neither of those seem right. I’ll just say it appeals to a limited audience.

Z Simons

Children of Men is one of my favorite films of all time, and a favorite to watch people react to. I'm not sure Cassie will like it, it's very upsetting. But would love to see it on the channel!

Michael Enos

It was almost my vote... but I would like Cassie to get a crack at Holy Grail.

Shehab Dawoud

Casino not winning... Well, there goes that dream. You're a G if you know where that quote is from.

Choof

Was really hoping for Training Day. I just don't get Monty python at all

Katie Jackson

I disagree about Children Of Men. I know I'm in the minority, but I watched that movie on the very high recommendations of many patreons, I found it to be one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. I think Cassie will appreciate the cinematography and acting but will ultimately feel the same way I do about it.

YodatheHobbit

Genuinely shocked and glad that City Slickers might have a chance of winning. Before voting, I assumed a more serious and extreme movie like Training Day might be in the lead. I'm glad Cassie's community knows the kind of films she likes.(although Training Day sometime in the future will I'm sure make for a great reaction)

Jason Henderson

But you can’t deny his presence and performance onscreen! Well deserved!!

Shehab Dawoud

@Cole If it was a make-up for anything, it was for him losing for Malcolm X to Pacino. And of course, Pacino winning that was a make-up for him not winning multiple in the 70s. There are a lot of these cases.

kaiielle

Curious - what sort of "background history" does one need to watch Holy Grail?

John A

I also think I need to watch the sequel. I do not remember it being better, in fact, I do not remember it all all haha. I know I had seen it.

Cole Jennett

I’m right there with you Katie. Gave it 3 watches trying to find what I was missing out on, still searching. I wouldn’t count her out though. She’s surprised me a few times

Katie Jackson

I've never seen any of Monty Pythons other movies and I've always had fun with Holy Grail. I think she'll be fine watching it without having to watch anything else first

John Liebling

Alright! Alright! Alright! Python falling a little and City Slickers climbing...a little.

Miguel

I voted for Twins initially, but its going terribly, so I'd rather City Slickers than Monty Python, so have changed my vote.

Cole Jennett

I’m sure it will be next Denzel movie up if she ever does a poll. It’s gonna happen before I get The Hurricane, lol

Just Plain Bob

I disagree with the sentiment that one has to be familiar with the Monty Python troupe to enjoy/appreciate “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” I’d never even heard of Monty Python before watching the movie and enjoyed it immensely. To me, the key is to accept it for what it is, like “Airplane.” Though very different, both are goofy/silly and require the audience to buy into the premise. If you’re willing to set aside expectations and enjoy the ride, it’s an absolute hoot. And, even if you hate it, it’s only a flesh wound.

Chris Thom

Been hoping for Casino on the channel for so long, I actually completely forgot about it. Lol. It's so good though. Really should happen eventually. One of the best movies of the 90's.

kaiielle

My thoughts exactly.

tom kenny

Children of Men is phenomenal, would make for a terrific reactiob

Ougi

Everyone please vote for Children of Men. Easily the best film on here.

Uncle Phoenix

I am worried that ’80’s humor won’t translate to a modern audience.

kaiielle

She's watched absurdist comedies before. I don't think homework is really necessary for Holy Grail if it wins.

Clay F

Twins (1988) (IMDb 6.2, RT 42%, RT Audience 40%) A moderate amount of satisfaction if you want that kind of movie, but the story is weak. The silly premise can only carry the movie so far. The premise = funny for 10 minutes, but then after that, not that funny and only mildly watchable. The movie missing the typical Arnold charisma, and a waste of De Vito.

Joel Wayne

Yes, I've seen plenty of reactions to it by people that don't know who Monty Python is or anything about them.

Clay F

Katie, it took me to the second watch of Children of Men to be blown away.

Richard Maurer

This comment section is full of people crying because their pick is losing.

Uncle Phoenix

There was also a UK Comedy titled, “Coupling” that I love; but the American NBC version flopped hard, can’t even find it on Peacock.

Katie Jackson

I know Cassie is eventually going to react to Children Of Men but I very much doubt she'll enjoy it. I definitely didn't, I know that puts me in the minority but I found it very depressing. It just felt like a slog to get through as one terrible thing after another happened until I just wanted it to be over.

Robert Baldino

I knew of Monty Python before seeing the film, but had only ever seen a few of the skits from the show, and didn't really think they were all that funny. That didn't stop me from thinking The Holy Grail is probably the funniest movie ever made.

Robert Baldino

lol, no. Holy Grail is an absolute classic.

Jason Henderson

Arnold doesn’t stand a chance lol, Nice to see the Opinions and care Everyone has expressed in this poll ! We shall see!!!🍿👍

Clay F

I changed my vote from Children of Men to Monty Python.

Chris Thom

It's a charming enough odd couple buddy movie. Had a friend in high school that thought it was the best movie ever made and I really never really understood it. But it's just one of those nostalgic things that's on cable constantly.

Chris Thom

That's pretty much every poll on here. lol

Clay F

Yep, Twins currently in last place. Even the star power of Arnold couldn't save Twins.

Grad

I have advocated for The Office UK in the past. It's such a great show - and short. Only twelve half-hour episodes. But ... I can see how it might be a bit out of place on this channel.

James M

Remarkable how many people fully understand they are being offensive and decide it's a good idea to start with "No offense".

Chris Thom

Do think she would enjoy it for a fun, easy watch.

Clay F

She likes Julianne Moore.

bknsty14

I love the Holy Grail, but I really want her to see City Slickers. She’d love that. One of my favorite movie scenes is in that movie.

Chris Thom

Yeah it's super depressing. I think people appreciate it more for the filmmaking; especially the extended long shots and the grimy dystopic setting it creates. And maybe the shock value.

Uncle Phoenix

Training Day isn’t going to win; so I changed my vote to City Slickers.

Richard Maurer

True. Should I start crying now that City Slickers is ahead of Holy Grail? I mean it is a travesty ;-)

Paul Stelter

I thought she'd already watched HOLY GRAIL, but evidently not. But I have to go with BLUES BROTHERS because it's amazing, and stars Dan Ackroyd as a Chicago musician who somehow has a Canadian accent.

Jason Henderson

With out a doubt!! , But so many educated movie lovers will decide the this one!

James M

Nearly all of these are worth watching someday. "Twins" you can miss, but I do recommend seeing the rest of these.

Clay F

I think she would have a few laughs/grins and but would be somewhat bored at times. But she may prefer a movie that is not fully engaging to an engaging movie with, for example, horror or a lot of stress. A moot point for this poll because Twins is currently last, and Monthy Python or City Slickers will be fine for her.

Clay F

+1 for Blues Brothers. Dan Ackroyd started out in the blues at a club in Canada.

Clay F

Nice to read confirmation of Collateral for April. Really looking forward to that reaction.

Ben Schwartz

I would've preferred Training Day or Casino, but actually whining about it? Come on.

Clay F

Yeah -- I would vote Training Day or Casino over City Slickers.

Chris Thom

It's like SNL in that the skits are hit and miss depending on your humor. And a select few are downright creepy/disturbing. But some are classics.

Jake McNulty

I'm voting for "Holy Grail" on this one. I'd also recommend maybe Cassie check out a couple episodes of "Flying Circus" beforehand, the way she watched George Reeves' Superman before watching the Christopher Reeve film.

Bill W

City Slickers is best suited for Cassie, followed by Training Day and The Blues Bros. (although there's a particular scene where's she's going to look at her watch.)

Clay F

My personal ranking: 1. Children of Men 2. The Blues Brothers (nostalgia) 3. Training Day (for Denzel's Oscar-winning performance) 4. Monty Python 5. City Slickers 6. Twins

pat on

Virtuosity for the win

Shehab Dawoud

Completely missed that Collateral will be watched. Long overdue but I’m thrilled about that. Of course the main focus will be on you seeing Mr. Cruise in this particular role. But Michael Mann is a hero of mine and a genius. Hoping you’ll be able to see similarities between Collateral and Heat.

R F.

This is an INSANELY good list!

JohnnyUtah

That's why I voted it, went for what I think Cassie would like most.

Javier Hernandez

Hmm I'm torn between what I like and what I think Cassie will enjoy. My Cassie scale feels this is a good order. 1. City Slickers (wholesome PG humor with a group that struggles early but then comes together) 2. Twins (Danny DeVito and Arnold are brothers .. enough said) 3. The Blues Brothers (It's over the top in the best way) 4. Casino (Goodfellas, but in Las Vegas) 5. Training Day (I think the Oscar should have gone to Sean Penn "I am Sam" but still a good flick) 6. Monty Python and the Holy Grail ("It is but a flesh wound". It's kind of niche these days I think)

MikeLL

Well I will shock everybody and say there is not a single film on this poll that I am a fan of. A couple of them are OK, but I can’t get behind any of them as a “must see” for Cassie. I voted for Twins.

Above Average Dave

I need to find a wig that looks like “the hair” for my Collateral watch along next month 🤪

Jacob King

Children of Men is brilliant. I get why people might vote for Holy Grail or Blues Brothers but Children of Men is one of the best movies ever made.

Thoko

I don't see why The Office UK would be out of place here. I vaguely remember Cassie reacting to a TV series based on WW2. Great show, but I forget its name. Cassie dislikes violence but yet she chose to watch that show, so The Office should probably be less of an issue for her to watch

Clay F

Current number of votes City - 123 Monty - 113 Blues - 80 Training - 68 Children - 59 Twins - 38

Jacob King

You need a few more empty lines before Twins in my opinion.

Stick Figure Studios

With the exception of TWINS, I think all of these are good movies and worth seeing, so I'll go with the one that's ahead. I'm fine with MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL. Classic, iconic and hilarious comedy.

Kris

Children of Men needs more votes...

Thoko

Isn't that the same as any other comment section on this channel?

Brent Petty

I love Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but I need to stay consistent, and City Slickers has been my monthly drawing selection every month so far. It's one Cassie and Carly would like.

Thoko

Your comment has not aged well, and its only been an hour since you posted it

Thoko

Yo Eric, chill

Brent Petty

The sequel is TERRIBLE. First one ONLY, please.

Jason Henderson

All things considered, collateral is a unique Close to training day Substitute, which you root for the character! The camera view is surreal, the realism, the lighting and character development pull you in for a big ride!! The soundtrack is great too! Was my favourite in Movie that year for sure! Can’t wait!

Thoko

Just changed my vote from Training Day to City Slickers

TheSingulatarian

Given the current state of political affairs, she needs to watch Canadian Bacon soon.

Clay F

Blues Brothers is creeping up. Thus, I changed by vote to Blues Brothers. I am pretty much happy with 5 of the 6 winning.

Clay F

Agree. Too bad does not appear to stand a chance -- though the voting is still relatively early.

Thomas Cooney

Children of men!!! It’s a must.

TheSingulatarian

All you need to know to enjoy Python is that it is very silly. Incredibly smart, dumb comedy.

Mojo One Thousand

Funnily I have been thinking about re-watching "City Slickers" recently... so not mad about this. Been a while since there has been something that is closer to a genuine comedy. Most of the recent movies have been heavier, so a little break will be good.

Patrick

U must be new here😆🤣 you'll learn soon enough that the comment section of this patreon page is located in Wahhhpa Valley, the center of "Whine Country"...

Joseph Fabian

Since she loves The Last of Us, she would LOVE Children of Men!

Alex Gorell

Wow this is the first time in a long time where my vote is actually for the winning one.

TheSingulatarian

Quite or I will turn you into newt. You will of course get better.

Cole Jennett

I love The Last of Us, I wouldn’t say they were comparable

Ougi

I personally prefer Life of Brian

TheSingulatarian

Cassie, Jen Murray just watched "Excalibur" and got pretty good numbers on it. You may understand "Holy Grail" more if you watch that first. I kind of wish you would do a King Arthur theme week with Disney's the Sword in the Stone, Camelot and Excalibur and finish off with a bonus of Holy Grail. Twins and City Slickers are fine. You will laugh a bit; you will be entertained for two hours. But those movies are the cinematic equivalent of a rice cake. You will be hungry for something more substantial almost immediately. The Blues Brothers I was obsessed with when I was 15, less so now. Most of the humor depends on if you find the brothers being unfazed by all the outrageous things that happen to them. The only movie I know of that had cocaine as line budget item. The music is pretty good. Training Day, lots of people love it. Watching Denzel be despicable for two hours never really appealed to me. Children of Men. A Sci-fi film as dark as anything from the 1970s. Very good movie with the slightest glimmer of hope at the end. Casino. Dark violent mobster stuff based on a true story. If you liked Goodfellas you will like Casino. Any pick will be fine. At least your polls make sense.

Walter

Twins is the best movie on this list...okay, not really, but I do think Cassie would really enjoy it and she did say she wanted more Danny DeVito...

Clay F

In 5-6 hours when patrons in western Europe are waking for the morning, we may see a bump (increase) for Monty Python relative to Slickers.

Laura Thornley

Its a tough choice, these are some strong contenders. But honestly? Blues Brothers is in my opinion the most essential viewing on the list. And I think Children of Men is the best movie here - and so relevant to today's world. Blues Brothers is just a cultural touchstone and a glimpse into the past that is both earnest and ridiculous with a killer retro soundtrack.

Eric Parpart

Love all these but Twins was my vote.

Audrey

City Slickers!!!

TheSingulatarian

Almost Easter Time for "Easter Parade" (1948)

Andrew Taylor

Interstellar rewatch in your cinema could be fun though, honestly let's just do all these films lol

Audrey

Norman❤️… and a very young Jake Gyllenhaal

Clay F

Good comments Laura

Clay F

Yes, but essentially 3-way tie for me for Casino, Training Day, and Monty Python. Casino and Training Day are not perfect, but I lean toward them. Monty Python is iconic but sometimes not in the mood for that type of humor.

2-Can

Cassie is from Canada, probably has a grasp of the legend of King Arthur. But your reasoning suggests that before she watches City Slickers, she needs to first move to New York City, forget everything she has ever learned about country living and roughing it, and live a drab, soul-sucking existence that depresses her to the point that her marriage is threatened.

TheSingulatarian

The ghost of Jack Palance is going to haunt the shit out of you.

Rod Reavern

"City Slickers" is winning!? I never understood why it was so popular. TBH I thought the sequel was much funnier and entertaining. Billy Crystal, Jack Palance, and Daniel Stern were good, but the 2nd friend with the mustache was pointless, which is probably why his character didn't appear in the sequel. Admittedly, I was a kid when both movies were released, so the (sorta) mid-life crisis storyline of the original didn't appeal to me as much as the (no spoiler) adventure in the sequel. Sorta sad to admit, but I'm now around the age of Billy Crystal's character in "City Slickers," so I should relate to his character arc, but the movie still has no appeal to me! Considering that Cassie enjoyed Indiana Jones and "Romancing the Stone", I think she'd enjoy watching "City Slickers 2" more than the original movie. The problem is that I GUARANTEE that "City Slickers 2" will never win a poll (probably won't even make it onto a poll), so I really don't see the point in watching "City Slickers." If it wins the poll, I'll be skipping that reaction video.

Mark Vaderr

"We're on a mission from God." Apparently, that's not enough in this poll.

Brian's Dog

I can fault none of these options, but I felt Children of Men is slightly more must-see above the rest.

Audrey

Oh come on… how can you not love the French Taunter?!

Matt Rose

it's definitely time for Cassie to experience...Monty Python.

Mark Vaderr

At least it's not "The Ice Storm". Talk about depressing.

Daniel Doble

Curly is one of my favorite characters in City Slickers, played by Jack Palance.

Andrew Rose

There are some I would whole-heartedly recommend from this list and some I wouldn't but I was selfish in my pick. I think Blues Brothers and Monty Python are iconic movies that should be seen but I went and voted for City Slickers because I love it when Cassie laughs in reactions. It brightens my mood.

🚩

Casino!!!!!!!!

John Liebling

It's a tie between City Slickers and Holy Grail. I wonder how close it is in real votes? Hopefully if it ends in a percentage tie, and the final tally is close enough, Cassie will watch both, if by chance City Slickers comes in second.

Thoko

No

Clay F

Current number of votes City Slickers - 168 Monty Python - 168 Blues Brothers - 114 Children of Men - 88 Training Day - 86 Casino - 77 Twins - 57

Katie Jackson

Yeah, wasn't a fan of that one either

Clay F

Current number of votes City Slickers - 168 Monty Python - 168

Clay F

I like it when she laughs too. She might laugh some reacting to Blues Brothers or Monty Python.

Dan M

I’m bouncing back and forth between City Slickers & MP and The Holy Grail. Both are very funny movies in very different ways. I am 1000% curious as to what your reaction to The Holy Grail would be, but I’m not sure that Monty Python’s brand of British humor is your thing. I’m sure you would laugh at a lot of the humor, but in the end I think you’ll start your outro with your patented “I don’t know guys!” City Slickers, on the other hand, is totally your thing. Comedy, family and life issues, heartwarming moments, and an excellent cast featuring Billy Crystal (When Harry Met Sally) , Daniel Stern (of Home Alone fame), Bruno Kirby (co-starring along side Crystal in WHMS), and Jack Palance in all of his gruff glory. You can’t go wrong.

Dan M

That would be ideal and I’m totally into it.

Dan M

I feel the same. I just don’t know if she’ll really like and get into their brand of humor.

Clay F

I know that patented “I don’t know guys!”

Dan M

Good point Clay.

Dan M

You probably had to do a double take, right? I know the feeling.

Dan M

Perfectly said JPB.

Dan M

I’ve never seen Children of Men, and it might stay that way now.

Todzilla

I say this all the time: who comes up with these movies? 😅 Casino is the only acceptable movie on this list. However I did vote Monty Python over City Slickers. City Slickers is the equivalent to the bland toast they serve at a hospice. Holy Grail is overrated, but I do agree every person should see it at least once. At least with Holy Grail you get a few one liners for pop culture.

J

TBH, any but Twins

Dan M

There is absolutely no research or homework required to enjoy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I watched it with my older daughter, who absolutely loved the premise and the humor, and she had never seen any other Monty Python material before.

Dan M

Me and some of my college buddies would watch The Holy Grail, The Meaning of Life, and The Life of Brian on a regular basis in my dorm room. It was one of the best ways of releasing the stress and anxiety of studying and homework.

It's fascinating to me reading these comments and seeing how many people seem to just vote for their favorite movie of the bunch, whereas I always think about what I want to see Cassie react to first and foremost. (Like, I knew Howard the Duck and American Psycho weren't going to make for good reactions, so I'm still shocked they won their respective polls. ) Out of this group, I think Cassie (and Carly) would love City Slickers the most, and I've been saying for a while that I want to see them react to Twins. (Admittedly, I'm biased, because both those movies hold a special place in my heart.)

Andrew Rose

I agree that for gen x folks those were really funny movies but I think City Slickers will be more relatable humor. That's just a guess on my part though. My guess is that she'll watch at least the top two so we should get more than just one check mark.

I voted for Casino but I will be switching my vote to Monty Python before the poll ends because it isnt gonna win. I do not like City Slickers much.

Thoko

So in other words, you're doing the same thing that you criticise other people for doing? I say this because there's many people in this comment section saying that Twins is not a good film. So therefore, it seems like you're wanting a film that would lead to a bad reaction lol

Thoko

Holy Grail is too old to be considered pop culture in 2025. Its grandma culture

Thoko

I don't think she's actually filed the patent yet. I might file the patent myself so that I can get some money out of Cassie

Thoko

Clay are you just estimating these numbers? Because if so, it is not really helpful. We all know how to do that.

Thoko

Dan, I agree. And the problem with this brand of humour is that if you don't find it funny, there is really nothing else. Its not the kind of comedy that has great storytelling like The Big Lebowski

KRAMER: Son of dad. JERRY: Son of dad? KRAMER: Yeah. That was my suggestion. It's sort of a catchall.

Tom Castro

I have been after you to watch "Twins" for about three years. I Hope you get around to it, and have Carly join you. You'll both LOVE it.

Allison

There are some really fun choices here, but Children of Men is easily the best film here imo. I know it won't win but i hope you watch it someday!

LukeG84

Cassie would enjoy City Slickers much more than Monty Python, and despite the many other great movies in this poll, it’s only going to be one of those two movies that will win. Vote wisely!

Thoko

What else is there to do but whine?

Gábor Árki

Oh boy, I just woke up all excited seeing that Children of Men finally made it to a poll. Only to realize after voting that it is one of the last ones. This movie has been in my top 5 reaction wishes since 2021, and the only reason I haven't picked it into my trivia 5 was that it was already in the top 10 on PopcornRequests.

JarHead0351

I agree - she not a Monty Python kind of person - I grew up watching them -- Hell's Grannies or the man in the street

Larry Darrell

So who’s going to win this horse race?? The Quarter Horses or The Coconuts.

Mark T

The entire reason I support this channel is to watch Cassie's (and Carly's) reactions to movies that she enjoys. Her reactions are genuine, and she really gets into the films (and shows) that she reacts to. I always consider how Cassie will react to a movie that I recommend.

Larry Darrell

I like the King Arthur theme week. Similar to her Robin Hood theme week, which was a lot of fun.

Larry Darrell

City Slickers is a once a year movie for me.

Chris Brown

I agree. Watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail cold, as in not having experience with the television series Monty Python's Flying Circus, tends to leave a person scratching their head over what would otherwise be familiar tropes of the show. The movie is still funny. It just leaves more puzzlement than is due.

Chris Brown

The premise of Twins might have made a decent skit or television episode, but it wears thin when tortured to a feature length move. I've watched it perhaps 3 times (because kids), but that was 2 times to many.

Chris Brown

Blues Brothers, because it's a pop culture classic that must be seen at least once.

🚩
>>168836555

I must say, since todzilla has made a rare appearance: lol @ your paf selection last month

Thoko

Mike, I totally understand your point. But for me its more complicated. I'm not interested in a great reaction to a movie that I don't enjoy. So I generally hope that Cassie and Carly will enjoy the films that I like. I cannot predict what they would like, but I would avoid recommending films that are unpopular with the typical woman of their age group

Clay F

I would watch her reaction to Monty Python (currently winning) or City Slickers (currently losing). Instead of Monty Python or City Slickers, I prefer to see her react to Children of Men. She may or may not enjoy Children of Men but she would appreciate Children of Men and be invested in the movie, making for a good reaction. Questionable how much she will get into the Monty Python humor. I don't remember liking City Slickers that much. Looks like City Slickers is going to lose.

Henry Graham

I admit to being very surprised at the strength of support for City Slickers, a pretty forgettable comedy in my eyes.

jdj830

I really think Cassie would enjoy Blues Brothers. It’s not like anything else she has seen, and she would enjoy seeing all the actors she has gotten to know in that context. As for Monty Python: they’re not for everyone. I love them but I’m a seriously damaged person. We’ve done enough damage to Cassie as it is. City Slickers….I feel like she’s already seen several versions of that movie already. It’s formulaic. Yes I want her to watch what she will enjoy AND I want to expand her horizons a bit. Therefore: Blues Brothers.

Clay F

Current number of votes Monthy Python - 216 City Slickers - 201

LukeG84

Just because you’d watch it doesn’t mean it should win. Cassie would enjoy City Slickers more. If it loses it’s because too many people would rather vote for something that has no chance of winning than make better use of their vote.

Canadianant

As the Blues Brothers is my all time favorite it has to be my pick. It's funny it's got action it's got great music iits got great cameos It's really like no other movie.

YodatheHobbit

I like Monty Python, but I have to be in the mood for it. And I'm not now.

Clarence Newman

Well, this is a surprise. When I looked down the list of movies (great list, by the way), I immediately thought "Yep. Casino or Training Day will have 30% each, with the others down in single figures. We always pick the most violent ones for Cassie." Don't get me wrong - Casino and Training Day are SUPERB films and I'd love Cassie to watch the latter at least, but I like to see her laugh and comedies don't generally do well when paired with tough movies like that. So thankyou, fellow patrons. You've made a happy man very old. As a Brit, I'm not sure what she'll make of Monty Python. If it wins, I would strongly suggest that she watch some clips of the Monty Python series on Youtube first. If she goes in with a basic understanding of what she's getting, she'll be able to adjust herself the way she does with older films. Whenever she does that, she tends to enjoy the film, and I think the same would apply here. City Slickers is just fun from start to finish. No adjustment needed. She'll love it.

Clarence Newman

I don't understand the hate (lack of support) Twins gets though. No one's winning any Oscars there, but it's a fun, fish-out-of-water romp and the main leads are great together. It was HUGELY successful when it came out (5th highest grossing of 1988) and showed that Arnold Brownschweiger could do comedy. Plus....and I cannot stress this in strong enough terms....Kelly Preston crawls across a bed.

Padraig Glennon

City Slickers all the way, such a fun movie movie. "I'm on Vacation!!!!!!!!"😂 Billy Crystal is so good in this series. And Jack Palance as Curly Washburn(Oscar winning Performance!). Its gold pure gold.

Clarence Newman

Although it's not my favourite on this list, The Blues Brothers has TWO things going for it, one of which the others maybe don't. First, it's a very funny movie, and second, it's an iconic box that needs to be ticked.

Clarence Newman

City Slickers is not losing, it's merely running second, and as Cassie has a delightful habit of watching more than one movie from each poll, I'm still confident it will get a watch. Twins is the one that's losing.

Clarence Newman

She will love it. They will love it. I will love it. Kelly Preston. Kelly Preston. Kelly Preston.

jdj830

I appreciate your passion but this isn’t a presidential election. I don’t think we should be worrying about voting strategically. I’ve accepted the fact that my taste is not in the majority here, and my choice will usually lose. That’s ok. My “strategy” is that, now that I see Blues Brothers is on her radar, I want to keep it there so she will get to it eventually. (Can you tell I have insomnia that I’m droning on like this at 4:30 AM?)

Clarence Newman

Yup. Monty Python is one of them there polar bears.

LukeG84

I’m always going to vote strategically (which movie Cassie would like more) if my choice isn’t going to win. I’d love Cassie to watch Blues Brothers but it’s not going to win. The only real option at this stage is which of the two movies will Cassie watch, and the it’s a no brainer which one she’ll like more. I’ve got you beat on the insomnia. It’s 8.30am here in the UK. Didn’t mean to still be up, but it is what it is.

Thoko

Perhaps its because there are so many popular films competing against each other this time. Usually I see 1 movie I like in the poll and everything else I don't recognise because they're practically from the 19th century

Jay Davis

As much as I want to vote Children of Men and Blues Brothers, I can't not vote Monty Python. Much dilemma!

Clarence Newman

There are surely just 5 things you can do when posting on a comments section. 1) Lobby for 2) Lobby against 3) Celebrate when your lobbying bears fruit 4) Complain (or at least lament) when your lobbying falls on deaf ears 5) Provide neutral information Oh yes, there's a 6th. Do none of the above and literally contribute nothing. Personally, I always do the full Willie Mays Hayes when a film from my list gets picked. I've also been known to turn into Hank Evans from Me Myself & Irene if a major fave falls short. Embrace your range of emotions, gentlefolk. We're all entitled to a "Haww shit!" once in a while.

Clarence Newman

I have to disagree, Thoko. Go up to anybody...ANYBODY....in the Western world over the age of 37 and tell them their mother was a hamster. If they do not immediately fart in your general direction, I will fall off my chair.

PatientZero.5

I'm looking into my crystal ball and see that in twelve months, every movie on this list is on the channel. I also see that you're ignoring the votes and doing Casino first. Excellent choice.

Thoko

Isn't Curly one of the Three Stooges?

Thoko

Complaining is the most efficient choice from your list of options because it is also simultaneously lobbying for your film and against the other films

Clarence Newman

Spookily enough, this is one of those rare times when movies I like are actually winning (and losing, and somewhere in between, so I'm pretty much set either way.) If this carries on, I'm going to be like Dan Aykroyd at the end of Ghostbusters 2, going up to random patrons and saying "Hey man. I love you."

Ria Grix

Yessssss! Finally voting for something that’s actually winning!

Shreddy

Twins IMDb 6.2. Hollywood made thousands and thousands of comedies of similar 6.2 caliber. Why Twins out of all of them? Because of Ahnuld? True Lies is the only comedic movie that Ahnuld truly succeeded in IMO, and they've already seen that. Twins was successful because Ahnuld was in it. He was on top of his action movie game. The idea of him doing comedy was something everyone wanted to check out because it sounded so bizarre. Nobody knew what to expect. Back then (no Internet) information didn't travel quickly, so the only way to see what's up... was getting a ticket to the theater. Did it go down that well... well, debatable. Kinda like Hitman: Absolution was extremely successful video game, because it was released after Hitman: Blood Money. Blood Money set expectations sky high, so everyone got Absolution (including me). And almost all fans hated it (including me). Financial success can happen if there's enough hype, regardless of quality. Especially when there was no Internet. There was no word of mouth in the same sense as today (online, everything spreads like a wildfire), just critics and nobody listened to them anyway I mean, sure Twins. But there's so much higher caliber films on this list, I'm not surprised. We get just one vote. More shocked that Training Day doesn't rank higher than 12%. Blues Brothers and Monty Python are sort of comedy classics, although campy style of humour, but still. Children of Men is excellent too.

Clarence Newman

Clay's the IMDB expert, Shreddy, so I'll leave that part to him. I just remember Twins being extremely popular when it came out, and as far as Cassie's enjoyment is concerned, she loved Arnold's comedy side in Kindergarten Cop. Twins is surely a better film than that one and IMO that makes it a good one to root for.

Clarence Newman

And I agree about Training Day. That one's a Rolls Royce.

bgb1975 (Brian)

Went with Blues Brothers. As much as I love Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I'm not sure it's a fit for PiB. But I could be wrong. It would be interesting to see Cassie's and/or Carly's reaction.

John Casamassa

I went with Blues Brothers, but I'm cool with Monty Python too. Usually I'm voting for stuff that I know is never going to get watched anytime in the next decade.

pat on

come on city slickers! she would love it.

Laura Thornley

It really is a tough one - because you have to almost immediately 'get' the humour for the movie to work at all. Life of Brian, on the other hand... Though you also need to immediately 'get' that overarching joke to avoid being offended.

Omar

Training Days not gonna make it 😭😭

Richard Maurer

Well it is the top 15 from Popcorn Requests, so I guess it makes sense that people would be more invested in it. Personally though, other than Holy Grail the only film I’m interested in is Training Day.

Richard Maurer

Yeah I generally like depressing films but by the end of this one I was on the side of extinction.

Richard Maurer

Some might call me a hypocrite but I get annoyed when the complaining is against a film I like, but I am happy to engage in the complaining when a film I like is losing. Yes some might call it hypocrisy, but I know it comes from me being right all the time ;-)

Richard Maurer

That’s on my short list of Tom Cruise films I actually like.

Richard Maurer

I get around the whole “will Cassie like it?” problem by voting for the films I like and letting Cassie decide for herself if she likes them or not, since we never really know till she watches them.

Bill W

I agree there are at least 3 other films on the list more in tune with Cassie. Most people vote for the movie without considering the reactor.

Richard Maurer

I only care about two (Holy Grail and Training Day) myself. While they’re all in the top 15 , the reason the rest of the films are that high eludes me. That being said Twins is last movie I’d vote for :-)

Richard Maurer

Children of Men is one of those films I recognize as being a good film while simultaneously disliking it. I just find it irritating.

Bill W

Dawn Marie has a reaction to Children of Men.

Richard Maurer

Holy Grail is back on top, as it should be. Hope it stays that way. The only film worse than City Slickers (in this poll) is Twins.

Bill W

jdj830 I think that's Luke's point. Many people vote for the movie THEY like best, not the movie Cassie is most likely to enjoy.

Clarence Newman

Agreed. When Richard chooses from a list of movies, his choice is always right. Unfortunately, the best movies are the ones that are left. 😆

Clarence Newman

Training Day is superb. I wouldn't have been sad if it had won.

Richard Maurer

I have a special dislike for 80’s comedies. Twins and City Slickers are in that category. Before anyone says it I know City Slickers came out in 91, but it definitely feels like a 80’s comedy.

Clarence Newman

Are you crazy, Montana? Stripes, Stir Crazy, The Money Pit, AND....drum roll, please.....CANNONBALL RUN!

TheSingulatarian

I'm not sure hot chicks is a selling point for Cassie.

Richard Maurer

You have left your sanity behind long ago. I mean you seriously advocate for Cannonball Run.

Clarence Newman

Think again, my man. She has expressed copious amounts of love for Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn in the past!

Clarence Newman

I do, it's true. Juries would convict me.

Richard Maurer

I might actually enjoy Cassie not getting Holy Grail more than her getting it. When Cassie is having trouble wrapping her head around a film it’s really entertaining to me - see her reaction to The Crow , my second favorite of her reactions after LotR. So if she likes Holy Grail or is bewildered by it, I win either way. Just as long as she doesn’t flat out hate it…..

Lyle Morgan

I think City Slickers is about as good a fit for this channel as possible. So is “Chef,” so I’m holding out hope for that one some day.

2-Can

Cassie is Canadian, whose father is an old-line Star Trek fan (recall their wifi password), so he is likely a Python fan also. So I'm thinking she has enough of a grounding in both King Arthur/the Knights of the Round Table and British humor to go along with it.

Richard Maurer

You are welcome to take them out of my sight so I need never look upon them again

Richard Maurer

I wish it was in the number 2 spot instead of City Slickers, since she sometimes watches the top 2.

Richard Maurer

Stripes and Stir Crazy are okay, but are pretty much the exception to the rule.

Clarence Newman

I could do that, Richard, but you need to face it. I own a lot of stray mongrels, and while I'm here, some of their fleas are going to get on you.

Clarence Newman

Fingers crossed. I just don't want her to Batman '89 it.

Nolofinwe

Please don't fall for that Monty Python stuff. most overrated Comedy troupe ever . The holy grail is especially dumb

Wes

Just do all of these Cassie 😁

Clarence Newman

Still worth pointing out that Training Day is pretty much Denzel at his best. And Denzel at his best is top-level cinema. (Still bums me out that Cassie has seen Unstoppable.)

Clarence Newman

Great idea! It's the only way I'm going to get Twins watched.

Richard Maurer

Comedy might be the most polarizing of film genres. Either you find something funny or you don’t. I mean, many people seem to think City Slickers is hilarious. Fortunately I don’t suffer from that particular affliction.

Michael Enos

I am down with her adding Excalibur to her watch list in the near future.

Joe J

Just do the top 3...maybe Blues Brothers can grab 3rd.

Richard Maurer

Do all of them Cassie -except TWINS!!!!! Lol

Joe J

MP was never my cup of tea either.

Dryfesands

City Slickers is about as amusing as a bombing raid on a petting zoo.

Richard Maurer

“Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of science?”

Richard Maurer

Todzilla- you’re so right about City Slickers. As for Holy Grail, well, you can’t be right all the time. ;-)

2-Can

Or Fifth Element - an unfortunate swing and miss.

Joe J

Straight-up comedies like City Slickers generally work for Cassie, but I've observed she has trouble when humor is mixed with other genres (i.e. Big Trouble in Little China, and The Fifth Element).

Kent Theaker

Dumb comedies, it is. See you later, Children of Men!

Clarence Newman

Yep, Big Trouble in Little China was a rare dud.

Story Archer

Crazy to see The Holy Grail up there... when I grew up it was considered seminal viewing, but for some reason I just don't think that that particular style of droll British humor is going to resonate with Cassie... it's equally bizarre to see Casino down there battling it out for last place with Twins. Crazy world.

Joe J

Cassie can like broad, silly humor (Airplane, Austin Powers), but as for MP, I also have my doubts.

kaiielle

@Richard - Agreed. I love reactions to MPHG for exactly that reason. Whether they are simply in a mindset of "WTH am I watching?" the entire time or they fully embrace the absurdity, it's enjoyable to me. Ashleigh's reaction to it is still one of my favourite reactions that I've seen. She asked at the very end "Why do I feel like I just got Rick-Rolled?" Comments: "Because you did." 😂

Art of Free Speech

I fully agree. I'm a HUGE fan of British humor and can quote MP skits backwards and forwards (never tried backwards, actually, but you get the idea), and love Holy Grail, but I have serious doubts that Cassie will appreciate much of the humor. I voted for Casino, so perhaps my curse of "nothing I vote for will ever win a poll" is coming back to haunt us again.

Sarah Jane

I support Children of Men, but the Holy Grail will help her understand our culture!

clutchkman

Not sure if Cassie will dig it, but the Holy Grail was my favorite comedy growing up. I can understand people not liking it though. Should be an interesting experiment.

Richard Maurer

City Slickers is a once in a lifetime movie - as in I saw it once, don’t need to see it again.

Larry Darrell

I wouldn’t say City Slickers is hilarious. Definitely not that type of comedy. I’m at work trying think of how to describe it right now and I can’t. I feel like there’s a point in most peoples’ lives where you reach a point that is similar to what Mitch is going through. I did and this film has taken on a whole new meaning for me since I loved it as a kid and young adult. It’s a lot more than a simple comedy. At least once a year, I feel the need to watch City Slickers.

Richard Maurer

I don’t get people who play it safe all the time - the ‘I have to vote for the movie I think Cassie will like best!’ mentality. Like it’s some horrible thing if Cassie doesn’t 100% enjoy a film. I always vote for the film I like best, let the chips fall where they may, if she doesn’t like a film I like, so be it, not the end of the world. If we all only voted for movies we were sure she’d love she wouldn’t have had the chance to enjoy films like 300, Kill Bill, Starship Troopers, etc., which so many here were sure she would hate.

Adam Doyle

City Slickers, Blues Brothers and Twins, are all very fun light hearted watches. Casino, Training Day and Children of Men, while great movies, might be very difficult for Cassie to stomach. And Monty Python is very hit or miss with most people. My vote is for a charming family friendly romp with cows... City Slickers.

Richard Maurer

I hardly want to see a reaction to CS at all. Holy Grail, on the other hand, will be a good reaction whether she likes it or not, so I did choose wisely.

Richard Maurer

It’s in the top 15 movies on Popcorn Requests. She will get to it eventually.

Richard Maurer

Not really a dilemma at this point. Realistically only City Slickers or Monty Python have a shot at winning, so you’re making the right choice

Clay F

City Slickers and Twins are my last 2. City Slickers is a step above Twins -- but maybe that's not saying much. Children of Men and The Blues Brothers are my top 2. My ranking: 1. Children of Men. 2. The Blues Brothers. Middle of the pack = Training Day, Casino, MP 6. City Slickers 7. Twins (a distant last).

Clay F

She may or may not would enjoy CHILDREN OF MEN (my top choice) but she would appreciate Children of Men and be invested in the story, making for a good reaction. Questionable how much she will get into the Monty Python humor. She might. I don't remember liking City Slickers that much, but I might. Training Day and Casino are good. THE BLUES BROTHERS is my No. 2 choice after Children of Men. Twins is a distant last for me.

Clay F

Current Votes MP - 278 City Slickers - 244 Twins - 80

Clay F

+1 for Blues Brothers

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Yes, Fawlty Towers!!! I wonder if Cassie will ever watch that? Trivia note: On the DVD commentary, John Cleese states that Joan Sanderson, the actress who played the nightmarish Mrs Richards, was in real life one of the nicest people he ever knew. He also remembers his co-writer, Connie Booth, requesting to name the nightmarish character Mrs Richards... "I think Connie was getting back at somebody!"

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

I initially voted for The Blues Brothers (1980) but on seeing the current results I've switched to Monty Python. Maybe if Cassie watches that, it might lead to watching all the other Python films as well!

JPDotCom23

Not just here, everywhere it shows up in a poll, it always wins

JarHead0351

I did not get/enjoy Children of Men - sometimes a lot of people rate a movie high, and I look at it and can't figure out why, but I know everyone does have their opinion, but I saw it once and doubt I would watch it again that also goes to Twins too- rest of the list of yours I do agree with your ranking

TheSingulatarian

She's Canadian. They are half British already.

TheSingulatarian

And it may hold the world record for most number of car crashes in a film. It may actually make Cassie sad.

TheSingulatarian

She loved Lord of the Rings. I would say it is right up her alley once she adjusts to the tone.

Ronald Carpenter

City Slickers - it's three very different men facing life as friends. The film has horses and the cowboy life. It has Billy Crystal, humor, experiencing life. It's about a transformative experience. And it's about the city clickers learning life's foundational lesson.

Dean Holt

Not really sure if Cassie going to get the very unique sense of humour of The Holy Grail. I’m British and I personally can take it or leave it. I think the safe bet would be to go for The Blues Brothers, City Slickers or Twins.

Just Plain Bob

The love for “City Slickers” has really surprised me. I remember it being a pretty bland, vanilla comedy. Not bad but nothing special either. As for “Twins”, it seemed to me to be a fun premise for a three minute SNL skit. But it wears very thin over an hour and a half. Every other movie in the poll is a classic and well deserving of a reaction, with my vote going to “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”

Clay F

I think everyone should watch MP at least once. My vague memory is that City Slickers is "a pretty bland, vanilla comedy" but I would give it another chance if it won the poll. A 3-min SNL skit is a good analogy for Twins. A silly premise that makes you laugh for about 5 minutes, then nothing of signficance thereafter.

Jacob King

Fair, I suspect it appeals to the same part of my brain that likes Wes Anderson and Guillermo del Toro so more on the technical and aesthetic side. That’s a personal taste thing. I love a well executed diorama more than just about anything,

Chris Thom

Not that psyched for either front runner, but I think they would both make for a decent enough reaction.

Michael Lynch

Holy crap there are some incredible movies being skipped for the likes of Monty Python.

Larry Darrell

Who knew that Coconuts could outrun Stock horses?

bgb1975 (Brian)

Fawlty Towers was such a great show. John Cleese was brilliant in it. The episode with Mrs. Richards was probably my favorite one.

Jerry Cummings

I was stationed England for three and half years. It took a few months to get the English humor and even understand them. Holy Grail is a good movie, but ???. John Cleese and Fawlty Towers is a riot, I have all shows and still laughter after have watched them many times. If I could recommend a movie it would be, Empire of the Sun.

Mike Lemon

Cassie has to be thinking, "Coconuts...??? What the frik?"

Art Vandalaay

I’m rooting for Mitchie the Kid here but, whatever wins, I’m happy that City Slickers is, at least, on the radar. It’s the perfect film for the channel, I’m sure Cassie will love it. Genuinely funny, charming, heartwarming with great acting and memorable characters.

Larry Darrell

Yeahhhh… I do wonder if she has any idea of what she’s about to see. If she has any preconceptions that are too far off the mark, she could have trouble finding her footing. I’d say best for her to clear her mind and then just remember… it’s OK to laugh. Definitely do not think too much. Just have Fun. Because that’s what the movie is… FUN.

Stan the Man

This is the hardest list ever. Children of Men? Blues Brothers? Monty Python? Casino? (Who voted for City Slickers? Yikes)

Clay F

CHILDREN OF MEN (2006) [IMDb 7.9, RT 92%, nominated for 3 Oscars]. Clive Owen. Julianne Moore. Hopefully, she will react to Children of Men (2006) at some point in future. THE BLUES BROTHERS (1980) [IMDb 7.9, RT Audience 92%] (No. 4 at popcornrequests.com). Debuted at #2 on opening weekend, behind "The Empire Strikes Back". Canadian Dan Aykroyd. John Belushi. Musical action comedy film directed by John Landis. Funny and unique, and a classic. The Blues Brothers were on SNL in the late 1970s. Training Day (2001). Denzel's Oscar-winning performance is enough reason to watch Training Day.

Just Plain Bob

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) [IMDB 8.2, RT 96%, Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Film Awards and selected as 2nd best comedy of all time in a 2011 vote of Americans by ABC].

Michael Lynch

Not on the same level as training day, casino and children of men.

Larry Darrell

Wrong shelf. The Comedy aisle is 4 rows to the right.

Brian Lowery

You could throw a rock at a shelf of DVDs and knock over at least a couple films that reference Holy Grail. The others, not so much. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is, by far, the superior film.

John Cranberry

Can you people please stop voting for MPHG it is the worst movie on the list by a mile.

Clarence Newman

It will definitely make for a wild reaction.

🚩

Cassie watching MP will be a trip.

Brent Petty

Borrowed from Just Plain Bob's post: Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) [IMDB 8.2, RT 96%, Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Film Awards and selected as 2nd best comedy of all time in a 2011 vote of Americans by ABC].

Brent Petty

Hopefully she does the top 2. Have we had a whole week of comedy reactions yet?

Thoko

People need to stop using IMDB as a source. Its reviews are rarely reliable

Keith Brown

Looks like "Grail" so maybe Cassie will see that close second vote and watch "City Slickers" down the road . Please Cassie, you and your family will have a great time with "City Slickers" !

Richard Maurer

But sometimes IMDB gets it right, such as in this case. Sure Holy Grail tends be a hit or miss comedy, but if you do get it then it often is one of your all-times favorites. And watching people not get it can be fun too. I remember once when my best friend and I showed it to another friend and his wife. After watching in dead silence for about 45 minutes the wife said “ Ohhh, I get it, this is supposed to be a comedy” I nearly bit through my lip to keep from laughing in her face.

John Cranberry

Whopty doo Brent.....I'm thinking of Cassie when I vote..... and City Slickers and Twins would be perfect for her. Great fun movies I've seen multiple times because they hold up. MPHG I watched back in the 80's and never once cared to re-watch it. Jokes don't age well.

Sean

If you dont like humour, just say so.

I wouldn't rule her out, she's interacted with John Cleese already in A Fish Called Wanda and was tickled by his sarcasm. It is crazy though to see what bottomed out in this poll like Archer said - Training Day saw both Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawkes nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively, with Denzel winning his Oscar and several other similar best actor accolades in other ceremonies for the same role. Seeing it washing out with the likes of Casino and Blues Brothers, I got no words. Polls here are always a wild ride.

John Liebling

I hope Cassie decides to go with the top two, from the poll. I know she'd enjoy City Slickers.

D. T. Nelson

Mixed feelings about the results of this poll. City of Men has one of the best stories, Training Day has one of the best performances, and both are great reaction movies. I hope Cassie gets to both of them. As for the top two winners... City Slickers is the movie Cassie would love most on this poll, I think. But Holy Grail is a classic and a right-of-passage film. I'm hoping she'll be able to appreciate the off-the-wall British humor and satire of Monty Python.

Kristin

So long as she knows it's just silly, not meant to be taken seriously, she'll likely be ok. I mean, that's all Monty Python is...silly.

James M

Ranting to people that the films they like are "the worst" is not polite. There are other ways to communicate and there are other things to be more emotionally invested in.

James M

All enjoyable films in the list. I would even watch along with "Twins" though I don't like it as much as the others. None of these are unpleasant to watch which I can't always say is true of the choices :)

James M

I'm 100% on this train. I think Blues Brothers is more enjoyable and an easier watch for Cassie. The thing it shares with Holy Grail is a grasp of the surreal; one American style and the other British.

James M

Before you watch The Holy Grail, look up the meaning of the holy grail in Wikipedia. If you don't know anything about Arthurian legends and the grail, you are more likely to think this is a bunch of dumb jokes instead of a humorous take on this part of the cultural past of Britain. Also know that Monty Python was a sketch comedy team. As a result the film is a set of vignettes linked by a framework, not a story. Many people who dislike it are frustrated by the expectation that a movie needs to be a story and this isn't one.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

My personal favourite is The Kipper and The Corpse episode. John Cleese says the inspiration for the episode came from him asking the manager of The Savoy Hotel (a five-star hotel in London) what the worst part of the job was. To which the manager replied "Getting rid of the stiffs" and Cleese immediately realised he could write an entire episode around that.

Anthony Carlson

@JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS My favorite is Communication Problems, which featured Mrs. Richards. It’s actually the first episode I ever saw of that show thanks to a friend of mine in college (I’m in my early 30’s so there’s no way I was alive when it aired). And like Mrs. Richards, I’m deaf myself so I can relate to people repeating stuff to her.

Clarence Newman

I learned a lot from Monty Python. Me and my brothers were members of the Ministry of Silly Walks for a while. We also learned how to return a dead parrot to a pet shop and how to correctly ask a man if his wife was a "go-er".

LukeG84

Disappointed to see Monty Python is going to win. Cassie would have liked City Slickers way more. Oh well.

D. T. Nelson

Yes, it is full of silliness, but it is also often drawn from serious, college level sources regarding philosophy, politics, history, science, and more. The whole scene about the "Beast of Caerbannog" (if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about) is drawn from actual illustrations in the margins of medieval manuscripts known as drolleries or marginalia. So—silliness, but drawn from histroical sources. That is the essense of Monty Python. Their humor speaks on multiple levels.

Just Plain Bob

While I disagree with the opinion of many that Cassie needs to see Monty Python sketches to appreciate the movie, I do think some basic knowledge of King Arthur and the quest for the holy grail is warranted. Hopefully she does a little basic research - five or ten minutes on Wikipedia or something similar should be enough. I also think you make a good point about not expecting a cohesive narrative - the movie is very much a loose collection of skits centered around the quest.

VirtuallyVeronicka

I think City Slickers is a much better choice…we’ll see what she thinks of the winning film. I would love to see Cassie react to Children of Men even though it’s a tearjerker, it’s such a powerful story.

Old As Dirt Bert

And yet her "This Week..." post starts with a feature of "Blues Brothers".

Anthony V Petty

Children of Men is a stellar film. The others choices are fine but c’mon it’s head and shoulders above the rest.

Brent Petty

Um, I voted for City Slickers as well. It's also been my pick for the drawing every month. So whoopty-do back at ya.

Brent Petty

Those are the two reactions to HG in my experience. Love it or hate it. Never talked to someone who thought it was average.

Brent Petty

I really like City Slickers. I always felt that despite being the big name, Billy Crystal wasn't the funniest character in the film. It's Stern and Kirby along with several smaller characters that get the big laughs.

Brent Petty

But only once. No need for the weeping and gnashing of teeth in these comments. Kind of pathetic, really.

Brent Petty

I feel the same way about people watching O Brother, Where Art Thou? for the first time. A little knowledge of The Odyssey would enhance the experience.

Clay F

That's interesting your take that Billy Crystal was the funniest character. I don't really remember the movie and will watch it if she reacts to it.

bgb1975 (Brian)

Another thought about Monty Python (for context, I'm a fan of the Holy Grail and the Life of Brian, but the other movies and most of the sketches didn't really resonate with me) - their appeal to the fairer sex. Does anyone know the demographic breakdown of Monty Python fans? It wouldn't surprise me to hear that there are not many female fans of Monty Python generally.

Chester Beals

She's watched Indiana Jones, right? She should have at least heard about the grail. Also, I know the Odyssey fairly well and never made the connection the first time I watched OBWAT. It's not critical for enjoyment.

Eddie Perkins

I never was a big fan of any of the Monty Python movies.

Ronald Carpenter

City Slickers over Holy Grail for the theme, the acting, the costars, the relatability, the sets, the Curly character, the "one thing" and having actual humor instead of a patchwork of weird childish absurdity.

Ronald Carpenter

Too childish and weird. Maybe if I was a heavy drug user I could appreciate Monty Python more.

David Livingston

I missed voting here, but that was my fault. "Monty Python and The Holy Grail" is AWESOME and incredibly funny!!!! I would also highly recommend another of there's called "...And Now for Something Completely Different" - no spoilers except to mention that the Blue Parrot sketch is in that one. That's all I'll say. But, even though it didn't 'win' in this poll, you should definitely watch "The Blues Brothers" - very funny, great music, and just a classic movie.

David Livingston

Also - "Twins" is a 'must-see'!! The premise of the two of them as 'twins' is just classic and priceless!!! It is also a great movie!!!
