Oh man, here we GOOOOOO ⚔️🛡🗡🐉 You made us wait too long Cassie! 🥲

Wes

Night King incoming Cassie! 😈

Bill Maurer

Welcome to the Night King !!!!!! Hardhome is one of my top three GiT Episodes

Coleton B.

Hey Bill, isn't that character not named / identified until later? Is this a spoiler? I can't remember

Coleton B.

Hey Wes , isn't that character not named / identified until later? Is this a spoiler? I can't remember

Clay F

Hardhome (IMDb 9.8) is generally considered one of the best episodes of GoT. Please no spoilers -- don't force Cassie to completely avoid the comments.

JohnnyUtah

-15 windchill here, winter has come!

Bill Maurer

Named, not named. Dude with the spikes on his head made one helluva entrance in Hardhome. If he isn't .. then who would it be? That's what I will stand by

Kyle K

Speaking of Egg

PapaXan

27:38 "Are we using the loophole?" Not heard it called that before.

Daniel John

Dunno if you continue your Westeros journey after Thrones. House Of Dragon good 1st season so so 2nd. But dear Lord is A Knight Of The Season Kingdoms 🔥 so far. That one isn't a big commitment. 6 episodes 30 minutes. See if they land the plane at the end of season one. Been sublime so far. End of Hardhome is great...don't remember much from these two minus that lol

Sam

Oh my god yeah, KoS is incredible, so hyped for the next one after that fucking ending last episode :D

Sean Carroll

its just a name, and the intro to the same is incredibly throw away that it doesnt really matter to just know the name now. The name also has no plot significance

Sean Carroll

bruh is obsessed with IMDB that he has no original thought in his own head

Sean Carroll

even though season 5 is a very poor season overall the hardhome segment is a masterpiece

KyloJames

KOS is incredibly well made. It’s actually a miracle how great it is

Johnny Bullis

Hey Cassie.. did you recognize Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca) from Ted Lasso in the 7th episode? She was the tall woman who put Cersei in her cell at the end of the episode.

Jay

Has nobody told Cassie that Bronn's actor, Jerome Flynn, was part of a famous musical duo this side of the Atlantic back in the 90s? Robson and Jerome only did covers but they definitely had a moment, had few number one singles. Their cover of Unchained Melody was their biggest hit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fgUY-kXlBA

Kyle K

Great job picking up on Valerian Steel, you’d be surprised how many people get confused by that at first.

Nick Skelton

Finally made it to Hardhome, one of my favorites.

Andres Gaytan

No, Ramsay's lodgings are not in the broken tower. Nobody lives there, he saved her from getting pieces cutoff of her.

Samuel Champ

Night King, Cassie. Cassie, Night King.

Andres Gaytan

Trust the process Cassie! Make the eight! Make the eight! Make the eight!

Clay F

Sean, you are in the tiny bitter minority. Admit it. The vast majority of GoT fans view S5E8 as one of the best episodes of the series. The incredibly high IMDb 9.8 rating (avg of 121,000 users) mentioned is merely a cite to support my statement "generally considered one of the best episodes of GoT." Not very bright are you.

Brian McGovern

I wonder if Cassie has recognised Sept Unulla is Rebecca from Ted Lassoo.

Clay F

Yeah, she did good with that.

Clay F

S5 [RT 93%] is an excellent season. Awesome writing.

Clay F

The phrase "Night King" is unknown at this point in the show but you spoil it. It is because of patrons like you Bill that Cassie no longer reads the GoT comments.

Clay F

Yes, it is a spoiler. The phrase "Night King" is unknown at this point in the show.

Clay F

The High Sparrow is one of the most despicable people in GoT.

Daniel John

They did well keeping episodes short and seasons short. Haven't read the source but seems like they know where their bread is buttered on those. It's really just a 3 hour movie they are calling a series.

Mister Lou

Whisper* 'we're in trouble! We're in big big trouble!' Very subtle yet true assessment from these past 2 episodes! Of course I'm greedy and can't wait for more!

Brian Sheely

"What are you doing? Put your hands down!" OMG... I absolutely adore Cassie.

KyloJames

Ya know, I have to really eat my words here. What an amazingly fun season of television you have reacted to! I was so skeptical of revisiting this season, while not my favorite, it’s still been a fun ride. I was 20yrs old when it first aired, so a lot of stuff went over my head then, but it’s been a humbling experience rewatching with you. Thanks, Cassie! Excited to see your reaction to future season finales, as well as House of the Dragon (hopefully), and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms🤞 —there’s so much great GoT content out there! 🙏🙌

Sean Carroll

oh would you look at that Clay piping up with the all important IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes rating which absolutely must mean everything. Why dont you try coming up with your own opinion for a change? Wait until season 6 when I start absolutely slamming the well beloved season

Conchfritters

Cassie: “It doesn’t matter who’s on the iron throne”. S5 E8 drove that home for me too.

Adam Simoneau

Nothing of consequence turns on what the character's name is. Not a spoiler.

VOCFM

Winter has come for the wildlings

Daniel

Can Clay F please shut fuck up?

Ignis Rændl

another great reaction, Cassie.👏👏 half of me wants you to binge the rest and the other wants you to savour it and even rewatch it like most of us did while waiting on the next season to be made. 🤔🤫🤭

Bill Maurer

Give it a break. It's a name. That's it, that's all. I would think the dude, standing on the dock, wearing the ice crown around his head raising the dead to his side would give it away, not just a name.

Sean Carroll

In my main comment above this thread I already admit that hardhome is a great segment. Being honest, the rest of the episode is average. If people want to call it one of the best episodes of the series than that is fair enough I don’t care about being in the minority with these opinions. Constantly bringing up IMDb doesn’t do anything except show that you are obsessed with ratings rather than your own thoughts. For instance season 6 ep 9 is either the highest or second highest rated episode in the show but in actuality the episode is riddled with major problems that should rank it far lower but the majority of people have shiny object syndrome being obsessed with hype rather than substance.

Chris B.

Ah Hardhome, such a great bit of this series! Cassie: as season 5 closes for you, I strongly encourage that you move immediately onto season 6 without any break in between! You've already crossed the threshold point in the show where not only was it a huge hit, but discussion of it was near-everywhere in pop culture during the time of airing, so much so that if you were to talk with others about your progress, they may be able to accidentally spoil important story moments **even if they themselves have not watched it**. Game of Thrones was that prominent in the zeitgeist! In short: "nothing stops this train."

Kevin Farrell

Cassie, the Boltons are Northerners, and bannermen of the Starks, which makes their betrayal all the more heartbreaking. Great reaction as always! Things are really starting to kick off!

Steve Mercier

"Someday, if you decide not to execute me, I'll tell you all about why I killed my father. And on that day, should it ever come, we'll need more wine than this."

Kawaii Leonard

Little Egg 🥚😢. You and Aemon, one in HOTD and one in AKOTSK are the only Targaryens I actually like. Dying pass 100 years old, you had a long life. And now his watch has ended. His like will never come again.

Clarence Newman

In short: what Chris said. No break. Straight in to season 6.

Clarence Newman

OK. This here needs moderating. Too far, guys.

Sean Carroll

Only one guy swore in this thread. He’s the only one that went too far

aarswft

I'll never get used to the people who watch this show and go "Theon's not so bad, he only killed two random children, not these two specific children."

Obie Brown

"She must know its Ser Jorah! He always wears the same shirt!" Hahahahahahahah

Clarence Newman

It doesn't require swearing, Sean. Clay posted a point of view that differs from yours and you ripped him. Others then piled on. Now, I might be missing some previous between the two of you that has caused this (I don't ready every thread), but his post was hardly an insult to you or your point of view. You've made it clear that you hate (with a passion, it seems) the latter seasons of GoT and that's fine. You're welcome here, your opinions are welcome here, and it's always fun to debate both sides of it. It's your aggression people have a problem with, Sean (not just me, you've read posts by others that question it), because this is a place where that is quite heavily guarded against. No one's saying you're wrong - your opinion is no more isolated than the opinion of those who accept (roll with?) the nits and missteps and love the show anyway. Say your piece, mate, because it's as much a part of the debate as mine or Clay's. I'd just ask you to dial back the personal attacks when someone disagrees. Folks have been kicked out of here for less, and for what? So you can be right about something that's subjective?

Clarence Newman

I think most folks in Westeros only have one shirt. Remind me never to watch the show in Smell-O-Vision.

Sean Carroll

Where are the personal attacks? Saying he doesn’t have an original thought is pretty accurate given that he constantly brings up IMDb ratings as his argument rather than say his own thoughts. It’s quite pathetic

Scott Macaulay

Oh boy! My favoritest episode of all! Hardhome! Been waiting for this one! Speaking of Battlestar Galactica: Katie Sackoff-star of said show-just started reacting to her own series which she says she has never really watched. Interesting for anyone wanting to check out a reaction by someone in a show they are watching.

Walter

I want to type so many things but I don't want to say anything that's a spoiler. So I'll just say another great reaction. I am enjoying re-watching with PIB even more than I expected.

Obie Brown

The Hardhome attack was SO good, book readers ( like me ) were smug knowing what was coming, this amazing skirmish was a complete jaw dropping surprise exclusive to the show.

Obie Brown

Same. Cassie already knows the final two episodes are usually crazy, so great reactions incoming!

Obie Brown

Hahaha, no one ever washes their clothes neither!

Obie Brown

I don't think she will be able to resist, should make for some AMAZING reactions!

Obie Brown

Cassie connects the dots faster than most people who watched previously. She also immediately knew "the young man" was Cousin Lancel who give the dirt on Cersei.

Obie Brown

TBF its easy to miss, her look on GOT is a lot more subdued and she doesn't flash her winning smile.

Obie Brown

I also think Dunk and Egg might be a good pickup after the main series.

Obie Brown

I feel IMDB ratings should not be used as the sole metric of quality of a piece media. But it's a handy barometer at least. That being said, Hardhome is very very good, deff the best episode of season 5 ( IMO )

Astraeos

Hardhome might be one of the best episodes of the whole show

Obie Brown

It was SO satisfying when Jon turned that White Walker into a sno-cone. hahaha

Clay F

Daniel -- you shut the fuck up. Sean -- so that's your M.O. -- to label citing review data as one not having own thoughts. Ridiculous. Head in the sand. S5 as an excellent season is my own thought.

Clay F

Why even mention "Night King?" What does that contribute?

JohnB

@Cassie, I'm surprised you didn't recognize the Wilding woman from Pitch Perfect 2.

MikeLL

A lot of it comes from paying attention, which she is very good at, and the rest from the clues from the recap. I never watched the show on HBO, but got most of the show from the DVD's, so I never got the recaps in front of the episodes. I just subscribed to HBOMax, so now I'm watching the recaps in front of the episodes. I was always amazed at how much Cassie caught so many facets of the show, now I know it's because of the recaps. Like the recap in front of Hardhome included Lord Mormont giving Jon his sword, and them mentioning it was Valerayn steel. (Don't expect me to spell that, lol).

james sweeney

"Are they using the loop hole?" 😆 🤣 😂

Clay F

Cassie: "Tommen needs to man up." Tommen does seem weak, even for his young age, he is weak. I wonder what Joffrey would have done in that situation. Tommen needs to assemble an army to wipe out the Sparrows -- even if that means his mother and wife are executed by the Sparrows. Don't let Kevan or anyone else stand in the way. He is the king and can get many to follow him to kill the Sparrows, no matter what are the 'rules' or 'precedent' or 'history' or future consequences.

JRCortez

Cassie’s ability to predict something unknown to her seconds before it actually happens is truly amazing…..

Clay F

She could have a 4-hour marathon next week in which she reacts to 4 episodes (S5E9-10 and S6E1-2) in a single setting. That's the way I watched it when I first streamed GoT back in the day.

2-Can

I’m surprised Cassie didn’t once try shipping Jon with the Wildling mother. So there were 100,000 Wildlings when they attacked the Wall. Unclear how many were killed or how many Stannis captured. Jon got about 5,000 from Hardhomme. So how many does that leave to be south of the Wall?

Adam Simoneau

Great reactions, but also perhaps the last ones.

Bill Maurer

Oysters, clams and cockels !!!!

Walter

I’m pretty sure she doesn’t want to ship Jon with anyone besides herself 😃

Clarence Newman

No way Jose. She's in too deep to stop now.

Caomhan84

"Come on, my love..." She's said that about Jon several times now. 😂

Caomhan84

I don't know, there could be a total and complete crash out for the finale, worse than the Red Wedding. We just have to convince her to keep watching....while not saying a thing. It's going to be difficult.

Brett Richey

*whistles* Hey, Guys! Metacritic gives S5 Ep8 9.1 ... *waits*

2-Can

Good point, Walter. She’s been especially possessive in that regard.

Bill Maurer

Yeah, quite the ability to foretell what is coming next …..

John Mellor

Jerome Flynn who plays Bronn was a pop star in the UK in the 90's. That's why he can sing.

JohnnyUtah

Hardhome was such a great episode for a number of reasons. It really does put things into perspective when the whitewalkers are coming.

Ed Garland

Whatever ups or downs may come, Cassie Please push through!

Raymond Terry

It's so funny rewatching this now, while watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as it airs and getting re-educated on specific characters and their legacies. I did skip Joffrey explaining the Targaryen history in season 3 though.

ShoopIndy

Third time watching this series and I'm still riveted! i gave the sequels a shot but quickly lost interest. They just don't capture the same magic as the original did (or, more concretely, they just don't match the writing, acting, direction. effects and production values). I wouldn't be opposed to watching Cassie have a GOT binge-week.

Mark White

Well I did watch it and I’m still not happy about Sansa! Things had better improve for her soon! 😠

Adam

This 💯

Sean Carroll

It’s a big reason why the high sparrow storyline is such a terrible one. If tommen had any balls this storyline would be over in the blink of an eye

Michael West

Hardhome is a really great episode. Hang in there Cassie. You seem to really be getting into it now so As others have said, it would be nice to double up on the episodes next week.

Ron White

Enough with feeling sorry for Theon. Even if he didn't kill Bron and Rickon he did kill 2 innocent helpless farm boys. Morally just as repugnant!

Clay F

I somewhat agree but Tommen has no balls and was driven initially by Cersei -- thus the storyline is reasonable and believable -- just annoying. Agree: "If tommen had any balls this storyline would be over in the blink of an eye."

Mojo One Thousand

She didn't seem to recognise Hannah Waddingham, and I highly doubt she will, mainly due to costuming. But I hold out some hope.

Mojo One Thousand

@Mike, I am not seeing the recaps, but did the conversation between Mormont and Jon include who the intended owner of that was meant to be? It took Cassie while to understand the relationship between Jeor and Jorah Mormont, and that was a one off conversation, so I am not sure if Cassie has fully appreciated that aspect of the sword with her fondness of both Jon and Jorah.

VOCFM

If you have no empathy for Theon at this point in the story, you either are trying to be an edge lord or have 0 empathy. Either way, commenting and inflicting us is unfortunate

VOCFM

Totally trash she's there.

VOCFM

I was just thinking that, especially with this specific set of episodes lol. The timing is crazy

VOCFM

Yeah cuz uh.. you know.. uh... Next couple.. yeaaahh Lmao

VOCFM

In the book the girl Ramsay marries is pretending to be Arya, so not only is Sansa not supposed to be there, but the replacement for her isn't even supposed to be pretending to be Sansa lol

Mark White

Oh I see. Thanks Yep, I heard it wasn’t in the book! That just annoyed me even more.

Clarence Newman

Sansa's growing some serious cojones though. Even with all the crap Ramsey's doing to her, she still stands tall and defiant in the face of his clear annoyance when she points out that he's still just a bastard. My respect for her is growing and growing.

Clarence Newman

She's too far in to stop now, guys. But I share your urge to brace for impact.

Clarence Newman

"Come on, my love." Why did that make me think of Smeagol?

Clarence Newman

Makes you wonder how Tommen grew up the way he did while Joffrey became Joffrey. They were both influenced by the same hateful shrew of a mother, yet they couldn't be more different.

Clarence Newman

Caomhan84. I think that's a given. But she can't quit now. And let's face it, you're not a true GoT fan if you don't have the urge to quit every 2 or 3 episodes the first time you watch it. Or, at least, need a new telly because you've thrown something through the old one. It's that kind of show.

Mark White

Heads up Clarence! Larry put CR in a rom com list on Extra Butter chat!

Clarence Newman

Not sure even I'd do that, Mark. The romantic bits in CR are (deliberately) cringeworthy.

Obie Brown

I had to wait a FREAKIN YEAR, because the books conclude at the end of season 5, so no one had any idea what was coming for season 6

Obie Brown

As a book reader I did not like how Dorne was handled, but the Kings Landing Sparrow storyline and I'd argue season 5 was my personal favorite Jon Snow season.

Sean Carroll

This person is simply a Theon hater. His redemption is what the majority of us are begging for. Theon is the best written character in game of thrones

Clarence Newman

I agree Theon still has a ways to go to make amends for his foibles, Ron, but I also believe that being de-fingernailed, de-willied and forced to stay in the room on Sansas's wedding night is a teeny step towards redemption.

MGCR

That's saying something, man.... lots of despicable, evil people in this universe.

Clay F

Agree. I put a lot of thought into it before I made that statement. I rank the High Sparrow, for example, down there with Ramsay and Joffrey.

Gray

Was looking forward to the Hardhome portion of the 8th ep kinda wish there were more Giants though, pure entertainment evertime one is on screen.

Andrew Nyberg

Favorite episode of the season! Lets Goooooo!

LukeG84

The way that last episode ended… 🤯 Can’t wait for the next two episodes.

Story Archer

It's actually a really under-rated moment in the series, when Jon is trying to convince the Wildlings that they have to work together against the greater foe and then the army of the dead attack. Tormund tells him that if they get through, everyone dies and he draws his sword to say 'Knight's Watch, with me' before charging into the fray with his pitiful number of men even as all of the wildlings are fleeing past him. It was as heroic a moment as any in the show. Knight's Watch, out-manned 1000-1 charging into the fight to give the Wildlings a chance...

DAVID COSTELLO

One quote a review on Hardhome that stuck with me: "Winter is Here"

justin swan

Jamie never ever desrved a redeption ... I was so glad to see his karma make an appearance ;)

MertzRocks

Probably more like 10,000 to one but that's just nitpicking lol

Dk

I don't understand why she thinks the Boltons aren't northerners lol
