Here are the final four from our two previous war polls (top two from each).

Only one vote allowed this time and it will end on Monday at midnight MST.

I think this one might be a nail biter!

Love seeing the words DIRECTORS CUT after Kingdom of Heaven. I'd love seeing the reaction even more!

The Dude Abides

You should definitely watch Tears of the Sun at some point

MikeLL

The Dirty Dozen. It's not going to win, but I will stand my ground.

Richard Maurer

Any bets on whether someone asks if it’s the Director’s cut?

Dolores Bellini

Dirty Dozen, hands down. I dont watch a lot of war movies, but this one was great. Lee Mavin, Donald Sutherland, Charles Bronson, and the Great Jim Brown. Just to see him run is worth it!!!!

Chris Retzlaff

Three kings will lose, but the heart will mend. Your duty is to the people of this channel...A Channel of conscience... a kingdom of heaven..

Larry Darrell

There is only one that I would definitely put at the bottom, and even it’s not bad. I just very much prefer the other three. This’ll be interesting, but I can pretty much guess which one will win, and it’ll be a good Win.

christopher b swanson

Kingdom of Heaven, director's cut is a masterpiece, epic and 1 of the most underrated epics of all time, a personal fave...........and the soundtrack is amazing..........

Jeff Rogers

The director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is so much better than the theatrical cut that it's almost a completely different movie.

John Neiberger

The Deer Hunter is the best and most impactful film on the list but I'm not sure it's the best for a reaction channel.

Shehab Dawoud

I like the Kingdom of Heaven director’s cut but I wouldn’t call it a war movie. And how did The Deer Hunter run away with the first poll and now it’s tied for last?.. some strange activity here.

Larry Darrell

Here’s hoping for 2nd. That’ll be the nail biter. And because the films are completely different, let’s also hope she watches both.

Brian's Dog

Kingdom of Heaven, I like all three cuts. Directors cut has a second version called 'Roadshow' is the same as the DC, but with some added overtures at the beginning and intermission.

Ike

There is a scene in Sleepless in Seattle where Tom Hanks discusses “The Dirty Dozen” that I was looking forward to. Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine and Hall of Famer Jim Brown? Come on!

Richard Maurer

It’s early - Deer Hunter will be first or more likely second.

Milton Reduxed

Orlando Bloom ❌ Ice Cube & Marky Mark ❌ DeNiro & Walken ✅ Donald Sutherland ❌

chevchev

Kingdom of Heaven

Shehab Dawoud

I’ve seen enough polls to know that how it starts off is usually how it finishes.

Brent Petty

YES. The score is fantastic.

Above Average Dave

I would bet $20 "The Dirty Dozen" is one of Cassie's Dad's favorite war flicks. Fun Fact: Both Lee Marvin (a U.S. Marine in the Pacific) and Charles Bronson (U.S. Air Force, also in the Pacific) served. Marvin was a B-A, serving as a sniper on a Marine Recon team (think special forces) and in combat against the Japanese in the most brutal conditions for most of WWII. Bronson was also courting regular death as a nose gunner in a B-29. Marvin was severely wounded in combat and had a machine gun slug miss his spin by a couple millimeters. He was also a great actor who was reportedly very generous with the cast and crew and took zero guff from diva actors.

René Ferland

I agree. I love The Deer Hunter but I'm really not sure Cassie would like it. Kingdom of Heaven is a safer choice. I watched an other reactor, The Coby Show, reacting to The Dear Hunter, and she understood that movie exactly like me.

Oisin Clissmann

In a future war movie poll I would really like to see the recent All Quiet on The Western Front. It is harrowing, brutal and fascinating to see the German perspective. Watching it in German and not the dubbed version is a must though.

Mark White

Dirty Dozen for me. Great movie, great cast, not too heavy, just good entertainment.

Christian Becker

I said the same in the pre-polls. Kingdom of Heaven is more of an adventure flick, at least in my view.

JPDotCom23

‘The Deer Hunter’ people, let’s do this

Justin Samlal

Thank frack it's the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven! Sooooo much better

FilmFanFred

All four of these are good, but honestly I can see Cassie enjoying Three Kings and Dirty Dozen the most. Of those, Dirty Dozen all the way!

MikeLL

I've always thought Cassie would see Lee Marvin first in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence. I would like to be wrong.

William Brownlee

Again the older movie is at a huge disadvantage. I wish every couple of months Cassie would have a pre-1960 poll. There are hundreds if movies from the comedies if the silent era to the film noir movies to the family movies. And so many younger people don't realize how many modern movies are based on the plot of an older movie. I know older movies don't get the views that Cassie wants. That is why I said every couple of months. I haven't really enjoyed as many reactions lately. Too many movies where they are dark and sad and depressing. I am old and disabled and like something that is uplifting or makes me laugh. Not saying sad movies aren't good. It is just not what I need at this point in my life.

David Cansler

Should be a pre-80's poll. The newer movies will always have an advantage in these polls.

Gray

KoH Directors Cut is my pick because i've heard great things and it's the only one i've yet to watch. I'd be up for watching second place too 😉

Eddie Perkins

I was hoping for Deer Hunter, but it looks like that's not going to happen, so I'm choosing The Dirty Dozen, and I hope it pulls ahead.

Larry Darrell

While I do love Kingdom of Heaven and feel like it’s one of the best of the 21st Century, so won’t mind it winning… As a Classic film lover, and one of the Classics biggest champions, I wholeheartedly support your sentiment. I’ve recommended numerous times that there should at least be a monthly Classic poll. The fact that Cassie was willing to watch Classic films going back to the 30s, was one of the main reasons I decided to join and stay. Like what was done with the Sci-Fi poll, splitting them into 2 polls, one for current and one for Classics, perhaps this should be a regular thing for every poll that contains Classic films. It is sad to see Classic Greats like The Dirty Dozen come so close and not get watched, especially when they get beat out by the newest film. I usually share this sadness fully, but like I said, Kingdom of Heaven is one of those rare newer films that are just that good and harkens back to the Classic film days. I don’t know if I can fully place the blame on recency bias this time. I’m not voting on it. Right now I’m trying to keep The Deer Hunter ahead of Three Kings for a possible 🤞third place watch. If it looks like The Dirty Dozen can takeover Kingdom of Heaven then I’ll jump on it and make it a baker’s dozen. Here’s to hoping that she will watch the Top 2 and we will get the very very entertaining The Dirty Dozen. This has a great chance of happening. I’ve got to believe.

Anthony DiBern

The Dirty Dozen is far and away THE movie here.

K, Zachary

Dirty Dozen was mentioned in a very romantic movie. It made Tom H. cry. It actually totally made my friends and I cry.

Zander

Put a empty chamber Nicky

Silver Machine

Three Kings gets my vote. Very underrated film that still feels relevant today. Haven’t seen Kingdom of Heaven. The Dirty Dozen is just okay. And despite its great acting performances, I’ve come to really loathe The Deer Hunter for its total disregard for historical accuracy. The original script had NOTHING to do with the Vietnam War. It all took place in Las Vegas! The war aspect was later shoehorned into the story, and there is absolutely no evidence that any soldiers were subjected to the uniquely horrific ordeal that the film depicts. It’s really nasty, cynical filmmaking, in my opinion.

Clay F

What a good poll. All 4 excellent choices. I voted Deer Hunter but will be happy if the newer Kingdom of Heaven wins. You asked what movie is Robert De Niro a "hunk"-- I am not good at deciding that but would say The Deer Hunter. The Deer Hunter has much background – more than the typical war movie. I know how you like background. THE DEER HUNTER (1978). American Film Institute (AFI) Top 100. --Won 5 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. --Christopher Walken (the more cowbell guy) won Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. --Robert De Niro nominated for Oscar for Best Actor. --Meryl Streep nominated for Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Catherine LW

I agree. I am getting too old to watch many dark, cynical films. I have seen many when I was younger but now I prefer something more uplifting. I still watch films accurately depicting historical events, come what may, but I have to balance it out with some lighter fare. War films, however are rarely light, but can still be uplifting. I dislike those films that try to portray an historical event but are too modern in their sensibilities. That said, I’m so happy that Cassie (and Carly?) is reacting to The Philadelphia Story soon. A palate cleanser.

Catherine LW

I doubt it will fare well on YouTube.

Silver Machine

And can we please include “Paths of Glory” in future war movie polls?

Patrick

That's the price of democracy. Always having to abide the decisions of the majority, no matter how one's brain breaks at not understanding their choice...🥃

Clay F

Hopefully, we will eventually get reaction to THREE KINGS (1999) (George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg). RT 94%. Ebert 4/4. Same director as Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle (2013), The Figther (2010), etc. Last year, lost to Cliffhanger (1993) in a poll. What a travesty. Stallone star power reared its ugly head. "Three Kings successfully blends elements of action, drama, and comedy into a thoughtful, exciting movie on the Gulf War." "Imaginative." "original and brilliant." "Vigor, intelligence and eyes kept open ... a top-of-the-line war-action movie."

Gary Granata

I have felt the same for a while now. While I am happy for Cassie and all her success in growing her community I feel its a case of bigger is not better. I'm at the point where i'm happy if some of the great classic movies don't make on too the polls cause they have chance of winning.

Shehab Dawoud

Well nothing is beating Kingdom right now so you migt as well just vote Deer Hunter and hope she watches the top 2

William Brownlee

I understand Cassie needs the big numbers for her channel. That why I didn't say a classic every week, but surely one every couple of months wouldn't be too big of a hit. I love that she has watched some of the best classics, but there are so many more that any movie lover should watch. I find small movies all the time that touch my heart that would never get made in this era of 300 million dollar blockbusters. And I love a good blockbuster, but there are so many small stories that get missed. But stories that can change your whole outlook on life.

LukeG84

Three Kings is the only movie I’ve seen on this poll, but I didn’t particularly like it. Will leave this poll to others.

Bill Maurer

Anything but Three Kings.

Bruce K

Dear Hunter was nominated for 9 Academy Awards and won 5.

Obie Brown

Glad KOH is getting some love finally, the directors cut is a truly great film.

Cole Jennett

If only to give a potential in to getting her to rewatch Sleepless in Seattle

Clay F

In the last Live, you predicted The Deer Hunter would win poll but hoped "The Thin Red Line" would win. Please don't forget about The Thin Red Line. Based on 1962 autobiographical novel. Exquisite movie. THE THIN RED LINE (1998) [Terrence Malick] (WWII). Stacked cast. --Nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture.

Chris Thom

Something, something, Director's Cut. (jk)

Chris Thom

Was Deer Hunter really popular back in the day? I had zero clue it would do so well.

Clay F

+1 for Sleepless in Seattle rewatch.

John A

Three good movies and then there's the three kings

Clay F

Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut (my 2nd choice after Deer Hunter) is "often cited as one of the best director's cuts in film history. ... praised for restoring essential character development and plot depth. ... transforming it into a ‘richer’ and ‘more substantive’ epic…. frequently described as a ‘masterpiece’." "[T]he Director's Cut ... is unquestionably one of the best films Scott has ever made... [more than merely putting] some deleted footage put back in, the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven changes the entire complexion and meaning of the movie. It's transformative in a way that extended versions rarely are." Kingdom of Heaven currently No. 9 at new Requests and No. 32 at old PR. Dirty Dozen (great movie) currently No. 644 at new Requests and No. 313 at old PR.

SEAN ƴü KAY

All 4 right? ... The answer is all of the above

MaggieS61

Popular is an understatement. It was iconic.

Clay F

Ditto. Hopefully, she reacts to the top 2. C'mon Deer Hunter. Deer Hunter beat Dirty Dozen in the preliminary poll (War Poll 2 of 2): Deer Hunter 1978 - 391 votes Dirty Dozen 1967 - 325 votes

Stephen Dias

Not really my genre. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen “The Dirty Dozen,” but it’s been a while and I don’t remember. I’m game, though.

Clarence Newman

Great film, Stephen. It's mostly serious, but it's got a nice undercurrent of humour to it, too.

Clarence Newman

The voting in the original War Polls is now irrelevant, Clay. Let's not forget, Joe Frazier beat Muhammad Ali in their first match, but then got leathered in the other two. C'maaaaaahn Dirty Dozen!

Clarence Newman

Dirty Dozen is a great film. Lighter in tone with some great characters.

Clarence Newman

A perfect description of a great film. And it's from the 60s, of which this channel has been heinously starved.

Clarence Newman

Dirty Dozen seems to be holding on to second spot. Are we actually going to get a movie from the 1960s on PiB??

Richard Maurer

How it starts is usually how is finishes, but not always. And Deer Hunter is creeping up. Still think it will take 2nd.

shaneth138

Can’t believe the one I want to win is actually winning the poll! And it’s the most modern movie in the poll!😆

Larry Darrell

That’s a difference of only 66 votes. If that many and more, when only given one vote this time, decide they prefer The Dirty Dozen over the Deer Hunter, then this will happen. A large portion of the Deer Hunter voters were probably also voting for The Dirty Dozen and vice versa. More chose DD over DH.

Clay F

I am with you all the way on Three Kings. The Deer Hunter (1978) is not a documentary and is praised for capturing the psychological, emotional, and social impact of the war on American working-class communities and veterans. The film accurately portrays the deep bonds of brotherhood, post-war trauma, survivor guilt, and the stark contrast between small-town life and the brutality of combat. It effectively portrays the PTSD, emotional detachment, and difficulties in returning to "normal" life experienced by Vietnam veterans. The central theme of tight-knit friends from the same town going to war together and being changed by it is considered a realistic depiction of friendship under stress. The intense, committed performances by Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, and John Savage are considered authentic to the characters' mental and physical decline. The Deer Hunter is best understood as a symbolic, emotional drama exploring the loss of innocence and the enduring scars of war, rather than a factual account of the Vietnam conflict.

Patrick Flanagan

Sometimes the weirdest movies top these polls.

Happy Hanukkah

This produced unfortunately false hope that some of his latter films would be rescued by a director's cut. :-/

SEAN ƴü KAY

Why split hairs here...they should all be watched... in the order the poll is listed even...all would be very well received reactions... I believe this vote should really be what comes first...all should happen

Clay F

We need a push on Deer Hunter in case she decides to react to 2nd place. As much as I like Dirty Dozen (IMDb 7.7), Deer Hunter (IMDb 8.1) is an edge above. From the AFI website, a video of Jodie Foster on The Deer Hunter (Jodie Foster: “I remember distinctly sitting in the movie theater and weeping in the middle of this film … feeling as if I was going to be changed for the rest of my life.”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoR00gmEYB4&t=12s From American Film Institute (AFI) website: “AFI named THE DEER HUNTER one of the great films in cinematic history – including the film on both 100 YEARS…100 MOVIES lists, as well as on the list of the most thrilling movies of all time." Deer Hunter is No. 100 at old PR and No. 265 at new Requests. Dirty Dozen is No. 313 at old PR and No. 645 at new Requests.

Clay F

The preliminary poll (War Poll 2 of 2): -Deer Hunter 1978 - 391 votes -Dirty Dozen 1967 - 325 votes While old movie patrons in the prelim poll were apparently split among Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes, Tora Tora Tora, many seem to now have consolidated on Dirty Dozen. But guys, Deer Hunter is an old movie (almost half a century).

Clay F

Happy -- thanks for that link. Awesome. Gives me chills associating that with the movie.

Sahitya

Kingdom of heaven DC has for the longest time been my go to film to showcase the perfect intersection of philosophies of the medern era of filmmaking; serious auteurist vs mainstream big budget blockbuster sensibilities. While it may not be as emotionally resonant as it once was for me, it's a film that still holds up to the test of time on a technical level, better than Ridley Scott''s Gladiator I would argue. Can't wait to revisit it with Cassie

Larry Darrell

I ain’t saying no to that. :-)

Brian

Orlando Bloom as a tough guy warrior though? I'm not buying it..

Robert Baldino

The Deer Hunter isn't really a war movie, though. It's an after-the-war movie. And kind of dated, at that.

Robert Baldino

It's bloated, and makes the movie even more historically inaccurate.

marc five

I agree with Clay.

marc five

She's watched 'Casablanca' & 'Psycho'. Actually, she may have watched a few more Hitchcock films as well, not to mentioned a number of '60s Bond movies. She hasn't been shying away from the old stuff.

Tom Castro

But the others are much older (from the 60's)

Rick

I didnt see his character as a tough guy, his constantly forcing himself to do things he feared defined his character

Rick

Act 1 of deer hunter is a very hard slog

Rick

Kingdom of Heaven has grown into a classic and one of Ridley Scotts best

Rick

lol i loved Three Kings, innovative and takes you inside the war - despite the cast

james sweeney

Why have I never heard of Kingdom of Heaven?

Rick Rodriguez

You mean the half where you learn about the characters?

Clay F

The Deer Hunter is definitely a war movie, and not anymore dated than Dirty Dozen that's for sure. War movies can have background. Act 1 is just that. Cassie loves background. It is a foundational, realistic prologue establishing the community, friendships, and innocence of the protagonists

Clay F

Dirty Dozen is 59 years old. Deer Hunter is 48 years old. An 11-year difference. That's not "much" older -- unless you were being sarcastic.

Clay F

I think the likely culprit is old movie patrons split among Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes, Tora Tora Tora in the prelim poll -- now consolidated on Dirty Dozen in final poll.

Clay F

Robert -- your reply makes no sense. Kingdom of Heaven was never about historical accuracy. At best, loosely based on historical events. Prioritizes dramatic storytelling over strict accuracy. I would much rather have bloated than the nonsensical -- which the chopped up theatrical version is definitely nonsensical.

Clarence Newman

Old stuff yes, Marc, but very light on the 60s themselves lately. We need some prime McQueen and Newman mostly, but Dirty Dozen would be a start.

MertzRocks

The Dirty Dozen is just so much more FUN, you slob you slob! (jk Clay) 😜

Clarence Newman

The 60s Bonds were 3 years ago, but Cassie has mentioned sweeping up the ones she didn’t watch. Fingers crossed on that too.

Clay F

Mertz -- good point. I like The Dirty Dozen.

Browniewin

The deer hunter is an excellent movie, but The Dirty Dozen is more fun.

Brent Petty

Where do you see that the director of Three Kings also directed Romancing the Stone? Just curious. I hope we react to Three Kings as well.

Sahitya

I agree, I feel like if you saw Balian as a tough guy, you may have missed the point of the character. Considering where we find him in the beginning of the film, he's essentially a broken man searching for purpose, navigating the journey he's on with just his morals. But besides all that, just on an audio/visual front I just find the film fascinating. There's some shots that I still wonder how they even got.

Sahitya

It's a film that was for the longest time thought as just another big budget gladiator wannabe that failed at the box office. So it wasn't talked about much until years passed by and slowly people discovered the directors cut of the film and developed a new appreciation for what it actually was and what it could have been if the DC cut was just released in theaters instead.

Jacob King

New vs old movie is one axis. Fun action movie vs SERIOUS drama is an entirely different axis. The Dirty Dozen people need to consolidate with the Three Kings people to form a fun action block and fend off Kingdom of Heaven.

Clay F

That was from my notes I had in the past. Not sure how it got in there. I may have been confused in reading a comparison between Romancing the Stone and his work. I edited my post to delete. Thanks for questioning. As you may know, the director David O. Russell does not have an overly-extensive filmography but has some good ones (and has received 5 Oscar nominations). Some of his movies I like: Three Kings, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, The Fighter (2010). I have not watched Amsterdam (2022). I plan to watch Madden (2026) he is directing. https://letterboxd.com/director/david-o-russell/

Clay F

To many of the old movie guys voting, Three Kings is just as antithetical to their psyche as Kingdom of Heaven, if not more. Agree Deer Hunter more serious than Dirty Dozen, but only 11 years older. While there is humor in Deer Hunter (e.g., in first hour), the serious drama aspects of Deer Hunter are awesome, moving, impactful. I like good serious dramas. From the AFI website, a video of Jodie Foster on The Deer Hunter (Jodie Foster: “I remember distinctly sitting in the movie theater [watching The Deer Hunter] and … feeling as if I was going to be changed for the rest of my life.”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoR00gmEYB4&t=12s

Kevin Farrell

I'm glad this movie won. Some great performances and actors. The setting is also one that I personally haven't seen much in movies. Looking forward to the reaction!

John A

It must be better than I remember to be this popular

Night King01

I think youre giving this way too much credit. The directors cut barely improves on anything. Also the movie just straight up lies. Why change actual historical events to create this one sided conflict when the real history was much more nuanced and complex. Also I hate ridley scotts color pallete. It has ruined medieval films. Apparently europe was perpetually overcast in medieval times and lacking any color.

Chris Thom

Was she still planning on watching Awakenings?

Rick Rodriguez

I love the Dirty Dozen. But I also love The Deer Hunter.

kaiielle

From the last Upcoming post: "Next week will be Philadelphia Story, Awakenings and GOT season 6 finale episodes."

Chris Thom

Oh yay. Looking forward to that one.

Richard Maurer

Looks like Deer Hunter is going to lose to The Dirty Dozen, after beating TDD easily in the first poll. The only way this makes any sense is that the first poll had many choices, dividing the votes up that ended up going to TDD in this poll. So does that make smaller polls with fewer choices better, or worse, than polls with many choices? And should we even have run-off polls? I really don’t have a definitive opinion about these questions (a rarity for me), I can see both sides of these questions.

Richard Maurer

Well, It looks like I was wrong about this one. An incredible rarity, I know, but it does happen, once in a great while. ;-)

Chris Thom

I think I prefer just one, big, multiple-votes-allowed kind of poll.

Chris Thom

It's a Ridley Scott film, so big name director. But some of his movies just slip through the cracks for whatever reason. But he's also had a bunch of movies that get rediscovered over time. Kind of been his whole career, actually.

Chris Thom

Haven't seen it yet. This is auteur or big block buster? Or you're saying it's both?

Clay F

More efficient to have one big poll. Can have up to 20 entries in a Patreon poll.

Clarence Newman

Yeeha for Dirty Dozen. The Deer Hunter is on my general wishlist but DD is the one on my Faves list. It's a lot more fun than Deer Hunter. The only thing that would make this a better poll would be if Heartbreak Ridge was in the mix. Overall, though, I don't mind how she does polls. Even with a run off, it only takes a few days and other stuff is going on while it's happening.

Richard Maurer

I more concerned about which type gets us to the “best” (most accurate) results . Maybe a compromise, many entries, but single vote per patron? That would keep people from spreading their votes out to things they don’t care about as much.

Joe J

I prefer just one Poll, multiple voting. Cassie for the most part will watch 2nd place (sometimes 3rd) if the voting is close...and I think doing so is supported by most patrons.

Milton Reduxed

Whether it's one poll or split, I prefer multiple voting so as to include all the reactions we would watch not just the one we want to see most

Richard Maurer

I think that’s why we end up with what Mike Lemon calls the vanilla ice cream - basically vanilla is the most “popular” flavor even though it’s nobody’s favorite, but because everyone is okay with vanilla, so everyone votes for it in addition to their real favorite. Edit: or something like that.

Nick Skelton

With Kingdom of Heaven winning, should we request The Directors Cut of Alexander with Colin Farrell?

Sahitya

It's a great example of a balanced blend of both, in my opinion

Bruce Reid

I'm sorry that Tears of the sun didn't go through, I think Cassie would get a lot out of it due to it being very impactful, tense and exciting.

Bruce Reid

Plus it's a Bruce Willis classic

Clay F

As you may know, a respectable 4th place (of 8 choices) in one of the preliminary polls. Beat by Kingdom of Heaven, Three Kings, and The Thin Red Line.
