Hey guys! I thought it would be fun to try a different poll format. I took 32 recommended Sci-Fi movies from here on Patreon and from YouTube and put them up against each other. The "matches" are completely random.

Each round is 12 hours long (except the first which is a bit long). I'll update you once each round has finished. So it will start today and finish at 12am on August 2nd.

I'll be watching both movies that make it to the final. Go vote for your favs!

I’ll save you a lot of time and effort. I’d be stunned if Terminator and Predator don’t win.

R.BGames37

Hmm this is fun.. i hope you do this with horror movies too Cassie.

Dirk Rheeder

Great idea! But how can you put Contact vs Ex Machina, that's just cruel! :)

Hi Cassie, some really good movies and some tough decisions for me to make (like Star Trek II vs. District 9, Gattaca vs. Terminator or Predator vs. Dune) but I am missing some other good Sci-Fi movies: "Ender's Game", "Starship Troopers", "Enemy Mine" or "Dark City". Or have you seen them already? If not, maybe you could include them in future polls, please?

I don't mean to complain but The Fifth Element shouldn't be pitted against The Minority Report. Two very different sci-fi movies in both style and tone and both worth seeing. A number of the parings I didn't care about and wish they could just be skipped, like a No Preference option, so whatever you picked for the other bracket auto advances to the next round.

Greg McDaniel

Wrath of Khan is easily the best movie on that list, but it wont win. Please give it a chance sometime, it's a great film.

A "No preference" option would be good. In several brackets I was unfamiliar with both and felt a bit guilty for a random vote when other may have strong feelings.

haha we did it all random as i know pretty much nothing about any of them! I do know ex machina has the guy from about time, one of my favorites so i’m kind of pulling for that one ;)

Darren Gibson

I have been hoping you would do Robocop since joining!

I know "Contact" will not go the whole way Cassie but you must must must read the book by Carl Sagan! Truly a great Human being, and probably the greatest science educator of all time. He made science so much fun and his 1980 "Cosmos" series "Whoahhhhhhh".

First, as Bjorn said about they are drawn at random, and secondly how is Cassie supposed to know she has not seen any of these movies?

Louis Ferdinand Celine

This should really be a competition to determine which order you will watch all of them in.

Dave

So many great choices on there. Edge of Tomorrow and Interstellar are two 2014 movies that are like a couple of bottles of fine wine for the genre as well. I do humbly request a non-sci-fi movie you need to watch in the future and it’s a ‘little’ movie starring Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro called Heat.

Never said it was her fault. Just a shame they got paired together, so I was expressing my opinion. Is that not allowed here?

Catherine LW

Well I’m all for 2001: Beautiful cinematography and strangeness. It does not have car chases nor does it spoon feed you. You have to use your mind and think about it. I saw it when I was 7 and I think I was hypnotized by a film for the first time. Some images stuck with me for decades.

Catherine LW

I remember reading that John Lennon went to see 2001 every week when it was first released, then he and the other Beatles visited Kubrick and asked him to do The Lord of the Rings with them in it as Hobbits. Can you imagine??? 😂

Of course you can express your opinion! Are others not allowed to express theirs, espy if they disagree with yours? 🙂

I have seen quite a few reviews of 2001 by those with varying levels of expertise, including heavyweight directors, but only one reaction video and they were young and liked it. I would be very interested in seeing Ms. Popcorn's reaction, especially if she were doing it with her sister. But, Ms Popcorn is most involved with emotion and, except for the hairy folks, everyone is highly professional and keep their emotions under tight control.

Please throw in "Forbidden Planet." There is a fascinating plot with a romance near its heart.

Charles, perhaps, but I’d like for her to experience a masterpiece of cinema, which makes you think long after the film ends. Are you referring to the Schmitts? They really enjoyed it. The comment section is always lively after a reaction to this film. I saw another reaction by a guy who talked incessantly and complained about the lack of dialogue. He thought the shots were too long. Someone commented, “I love watching reactors telling Stanley Kubrick how to make a film”. 😂

I heard they wanted to make "Lord of the Rings" but didn't know it was inspired by Kubrick and 2001

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to watch her react to 2001 and 2010. But I would not expect her to love 2001...maybe 2010. I think it might have been the Schmitts. I subscribe to a bunch of reactors, but this is the only one I Patreon. The reactor I thought would do 2001 was Shanelle Ricco. She apparently is a film student and gets into how shots are done, plots, and musical scores. So her reactions are more technical . But she has likely seen it as part of her education. But, IRL, I've heard people from their thirties on down who like sci-fi not liking the pacing of 2001. That's why I think 2001 may be good to do with her sister so they can discuss what is going on. The plot is so subtle that it is good to have two minds teaming up to get it. The scale is vast yet subtle, it is not "Saving Private Ryan" where the plot is simple and strong, and there is loads of emotional content. When you think about it, the most similar plot on this list is "Contact."

Charles Mills

Well...that would take LoTR on a trip through the 60's. The sound track could include Leonard Nimoy's "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins." 2001 is one of those films that is often cited by major creative people, but I didn't expect the Beatles. :)

I found the reaction again and it was the Schmitts. I also found a couple of young guys who didn't like it. Then I found Brandocritic who gave it 4.5/5. But he said he'd be thinking about it a long time and was going to rewatch with friends so they could discuss it. I'll take that over a 5/5!

And some other categories... After horror, maybe a genre she hasn't touched like westerns.
